Structural phase transitions of the B1–B2 type in small-sized ionic crystals

The features of structural phase transitions that occur under high pressure are studied. The density functional theory is used to calculate the B1–B2 phase transition pressure as a function of the crystal size for small-sized alkali halide crystals. A size effect (an increase in the phase transition pressure as the crystal grain radius decreases) is revealed for the B1–B2 transitions in all halogen compounds except for lithium fluoride, for which the dependence is inverse.     

Molecular crystal structure and chemical properties of 4-phenyl-3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,2,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydropyridine

The molecular crystal structure of 4-phenyl-3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,2,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydropyridine has been investigated by x-ray structural analysis. X-ray fluorescent and EXAFS studies of the electronic and spatial structure of dialkyl sulfides and their PdCl2 complexes in extraction systems

SK_α, SK_β, ClK_β, ClK_β, and PdL_β2 X-ray fluorescent and PdK EXAFS spectra were obtained for some organic solutions of dialkyl sulfide complexes with palladium chloride. Solvent effects on the electronic and spatial structure of complexes in solution are discussed. In the benzene solution of [PdCl₂2(C₆H₁₃)₂S], complex molecules interact with solvent molecules along a coordinate that is perpendicular to the plane of the complex molecule. Modulation of Particle Concentrations in the Interference Laser Radiation Field

Spatial redistribution of microparticles in a suspension on exposure to the interference laser field depending on the parameters of the particles and the field characteristics has been analyzed theoretically. Results of experimental investigations are presented that illustrate the capture of an ensemble of polymeric small spheres and also of the lymphocytes of human blood and other microparticles in a liquid in the interference radiation bands of the He–Ne laser.     

A Criterion for Spectrum Decomposition

We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the decomposition of the spectrum of an arbitrary nonsymmetric potential whose least value is attained at finitely many points.     

Application of the variation principle for the problem of buckling of a nonlinearly elastic ring nonuniform along its thickness

There has been considerable recent attention given to the stressed and buckled states of items with complicated configuration made of different nonlinearly elastic materials joined by complete adhesion. However, effective analytical solutions for such problems have been hindered by mathematical difficulties. Approximate methods have thus been developed for such problems. A variational combined principle has been formulated in this communication. A nonlinear geometrical approach has been used for formulating a mixed-type functional with physical relationships given by Euler equations, nonlinear equilibrium equations, and nonlinear boundary conditions for a piecewise-nonuniform nonlinearly elastic body composed of finite elements (particles). As an example, buckling along the nonuniform thickness of nonlinearly elastic rings was analyzed hypothetically assuming plane cross-sections. Options for two-, three-, four-, five-, and six-layered rings in a periodical structure have been reviewed. The critical buckling forces for an even number of layers have been found to be equal to each other.
