We show that all domain-wall solutions of gravity coupled to scalar fields for which the world-volume geometry is Minkowski or anti-de Sitter admit Killing spinors, and satisfy corresponding first-order equations involving a superpotential determined by the solution. By analytic continuation, all flat or closed Friedmann-Lema?tre-Robertson-Walker cosmologies are shown to satisfy similar first-order equations arising from the existence of "pseudo Killing" spinors.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the contribution of diffusion and perfusion MR metrics in the discrimination of intracranial brain lesions at 3T MRI, and to investigate the potential diagnostic and predictive value that pattern recognition techniques may provide in tumor characterization using these metrics as classification features. Conventional MRI, diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and dynamic-susceptibility contrast imaging (DSCI) were performed on 115 patients with newly diagnosed intracranial tumors (low-and- high grade gliomas, meningiomas, solitary metastases). The Mann–Whitney U test was employed in order to identify statistical differences of the diffusion and perfusion parameters for different tumor comparisons in the intra-and peritumoral region. To assess the diagnostic contribution of these parameters, two different methods were used; the commonly used receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and the more sophisticated SVM classification, and accuracy, sensitivity and specificity levels were obtained for both cases. The combination of all metrics provided the optimum diagnostic outcome. The highest predictive outcome was obtained using the SVM classification, although ROC analysis yielded high accuracies as well. It is evident that DWI/DTI and DSCI are useful techniques for tumor grading. Nevertheless, cellularity and vascularity are factors closely correlated in a non-linear way and thus difficult to evaluate and interpret through conventional methods of analysis. Hence, the combination of diffusion and perfusion metrics into a sophisticated classification scheme may provide the optimum diagnostic outcome. In conclusion, machine learning techniques may be used as an adjunctive diagnostic tool, which can be implemented into the clinical routine to optimize decision making.  相似文献

Depolarized light scattering of binary polymer blends in disordered state near the demixing critical point is considered both theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the depolarized scattering in such systems is predominantly due to double scattering processes induced by composition fluctuations. For long enough polymer chains, this scattering is stronger than the contribution from intrinsic anisotropy fluctuations. The general equation for the static and dynamic double scattering function is obtained in terms of the system structure factor. The scattering functions are calculated both analytically and numerically (dynamic part) for polymer blends. We found that the depolarized intensity depends on the polymerization degree N and the relative distance from the critical point τ = 1 – χ*/χ (where χ is the Flory‐Huggins interaction parameter and χ* its critical value) as Ivh ∼︁ N2/τ2, which is in good agreement with the experimental data. It is also shown that the dynamic scattering function is decaying non‐exponentially. We calculate the relaxation rate and the non‐exponentiality parameter as functions of the scattering angle and τ. These theoretical predictions are compared with experimental data for three chemically different blends.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) constitute a class of nanomaterials that possess characteristics suitable for a variety of possible applications. Their compatibility with aqueous environments has been made possible by the chemical functionalization of their surface, allowing for exploration of their interactions with biological components including mammalian cells. Functionalized CNTs (f-CNTs) are being intensively explored in advanced biotechnological applications ranging from molecular biosensors to cellular growth substrates. We have been exploring the potential of f-CNTs as delivery vehicles of biologically active molecules in view of possible biomedical applications, including vaccination and gene delivery. Recently we reported the capability of ammonium-functionalized single-walled CNTs to penetrate human and murine cells and facilitate the delivery of plasmid DNA leading to expression of marker genes. To optimize f-CNTs as gene delivery vehicles, it is essential to characterize their interactions with DNA. In the present report, we study the interactions of three types of f-CNTs, ammonium-functionalized single-walled and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (SWNT-NH3+; MWNT-NH3+), and lysine-functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT-Lys-NH3+), with plasmid DNA. Nanotube-DNA complexes were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, surface plasmon resonance, PicoGreen dye exclusion, and agarose gel shift assay. The results indicate that all three types of cationic carbon nanotubes are able to condense DNA to varying degrees, indicating that both nanotube surface area and charge density are critical parameters that determine the interaction and electrostatic complex formation between f-CNTs with DNA. All three different f-CNT types in this study exhibited upregulation of marker gene expression over naked DNA using a mammalian (human) cell line. Differences in the levels of gene expression were correlated with the structural and biophysical data obtained for the f-CNT:DNA complexes to suggest that large surface area leading to very efficient DNA condensation is not necessary for effective gene transfer. However, it will require further investigation to determine whether the degree of binding and tight association between DNA and nanotubes is a desirable trait to increase gene expression efficiency in vitro or in vivo. This study constitutes the first thorough investigation into the physicochemical interactions between cationic functionalized carbon nanotubes and DNA toward construction of carbon nanotube-based gene transfer vector systems.  相似文献

This paper examines the technical efficiency of Greek football clubs, taking into account the period before the Euro 2004 victory and the period thereafter. The first stage of analysis is based on a bootstrapped data envelopment analysis approach so as to determine Greek clubs’ efficiency scores during these two distinct time periods. The second stage of analysis investigates possible factors that may have affected the efficiency scores during the examined periods. Our findings reveal that Greek football clubs exhibit surprisingly lower efficiency scores after Euro victory. In effect and explained in the context of the Resource Based Theory, there appears to be no classification of types of football clubs into various divisions, viz. laggards, followers and champions. Finally, it is also found that clubs’ financial health appears to be a crucial factor for their performance in both periods.  相似文献

We extend the logical model of agency known as the KGP model, to support agents with normative concepts, based on the roles an agent plays and the obligations and prohibitions that result from playing these roles. The proposed framework illustrates how the resulting normative concepts, including the roles, can evolve dynamically during the lifetime of the agent. Furthermore, we illustrate how these concepts can be combined with the existing capabilities of KGP agents in order to plan for their goals, react to changes in the environment, and interact with other agents. Our approach gives an executable specification of normative concepts that can be used directly for prototyping applications. Fariba Sadri is a senior lecturer at Imperial College London, from where she received her PhD. Her earlier work concentrated on integrity of deductive databases and temporal reasoning, in particular using the event calculus. In more recent years her work has been on agent technologies and multi-agent systems. She has worked on logic-based agent models, reasoning, dynamic belief revision, and inter-agent communication and negotiation for resources. She was co-awarded an EPSRC grant for research into logic-based multi-agents and was co-investigator in the EU SOCS project. Kostas Stathis is a senior lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London and he holds a PhD from Imperial College London. His research interests are in the area of computational intelligence in general and in the intersection of computational logic and cognitive systems for social computing applications in particular. His research interests include: representation of human-computer (or computer-computer) interaction as a game; cognitive & autonomous agents; artificial agent societies; agent communication; programmable agents and agent platforms. He is a co-investigator of the EU ArguGRID project and was a co-investigator of the EU SOCS project. Francesca Toni is a senior lecturer at Imperial College London, from where she received her PhD. Her earlier work focused on abductive reasoning. In more recent years, she focused on argumentation, agent models and multi-agent systems. She has worked on computational logic-based agent models, agent reasoning, dynamic belief revision, and inter-agent communication and negotiation for resources. She has been co-ordinator of the EU SOCS project, which developed the KGP model of agency, and is coordinator of the EU ArguGRID project, on the application of argumentative agents within grid systems.  相似文献

This dilatation,intermediate equilibrium state (state I) of the cube is assumedattainable in two different ways. Accordingly, in what is termedas the ‘principal stability problem’ under investigation,state I is considered to be that of uniform dilatation, whichis attained upon loading normally and uniformly the oppositefaces of the unit cube with certain pairs of equal and oppositelydirected forces having appropriately selected magnitudes. Inwhat is termed as the ‘modified stability problem’under investigation, the same compressible, transversely isotropicunit cube is loaded uniformly by three identical pairs of equaland oppositely directed forces acting normally to its faces,and, hence, it attains in state I the shape of a certain rectangularparallelepiped. The necessary and sufficient conditions forstability of state I of the cube deformation are obtained inthe form of three inequalities, which are found to hold regardlessof whether the intermediate equilibrium state I is that of uniformdilatation or that of the aforementioned rectangular parallelepiped(non-uniform dilatation). In this paper, the problem of propagation of free harmonic waves in cross-ply laminated thin elastic shells is considered. For this problem, a theoretical unification of the most commonly used, in physical and engineering applications, thin shell theories which take into consideration transverse shear deformation effects is presented. In more detail, the problem is formulated in such a way that by using some tracers, which have the form of Kronecker's deltas, the obtained stress-strain relations, constitutive equations and equations of motion produce, as special cases, the corresponding relations and equations of the transverse shear deformable analogs of Donnell's, Love's and Sanders' theories. Using an eigenvalue form solution of the equations of motion, a comparison of corresponding numerical results obtained on the basis of all of the afore-mentioned theories is made. Comparisons with corresponding results obtained on the basis of the classical thin shell theories of Donnell, Love, Sanders and Flugge are also made.
Resumé On étudie un problème de propagation d'ondes harmoniques libres dans une fine coque cylindrique, élastique, composée de lamelles croisées. On présente une unification des théories les plus courantes que les ingénieurs et physiciens appliquent aux problèmes de coques minces sous considération de la déformation due au cisaillement transverse. En détails, le problème est formulé de telle façon qu'en utilisant des opérateurs de trace (sous forme du symbole de Kronecker) les relations obtenues: contrainte-déformation, équations constitutives et équations de mouvement donnent comme cas spéciaux les relations correspondantes et les équations des problèmes analogues (déformation de coques minces par cisaillement transverse) des théories de Donnell, Love et Sanders. En utilisant une solution aux valeurs propres des équations de mouvement, on compare les résultats numériques obtenus grâce aux théories mentionées ci-dessus aux résultats correspondants sur la base des théories classiques de Donnell, Love, Sander et Flugge.

A tris(bromo-methylphenylene)triazine and its corresponding phosphine oxide derivative have been synthesized; the latter compound was found to be a potent ligand for the hydroformylation reaction. Suzuki coupling of the mono-pinacolboronate derivative of the former compound with a tris(iodo-methylphenylene)triazine was possible at two of the three iodine atoms, yielding a bromo- and iodo-methylphenylene periphery-functionalized triazine-based dendritic molecule with a 3,3′-dimethyl-biphenyl linker.  相似文献
