Grafting of Anionic Decahydro-Closo-Decaborate Clusters on Keggin and Dawson-Type Polyoxometalates: Syntheses,Studies in Solution,DFT Calculations and Electrochemical Properties

Herein we report the synthesis of a new class of compounds associating Keggin and Dawson-type Polyoxometalates (POMs) with a derivative of the anionic decahydro-closo-decaborate cluster [B₁₀H₁₀]²⁻ through aminopropylsilyl ligand (APTES) acting as both a linker and a spacer between the two negatively charged species. Three new adducts were isolated and fully characterized by various NMR techniques and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, notably revealing the isolation of an unprecedented monofunctionalized SiW₁₀ derivative stabilized through intramolecular H-H dihydrogen contacts. DFT as well as electrochemical studies allowed studying the electronic effect of grafting the decaborate cluster on the POM moiety and its consequences on the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) properties.

Preparation and characterization of NiO nanoparticles from thermal decomposition of the [Ni(en)3](NO3)2 complex: A facile and low-temperature route

NiO nanoparticles with an average size of 15 nm were easily prepared via the thermal decomposition of the tris(ethylenediamine)Ni(II) nitrate complex [Ni(en)₃](NO₃)₂ as a new precursor at low temperature, and the nanoparticles were characterized by thermal analysis (TGA/DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-Vis spectroscopy, BET specific surface area measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and magnetic measurements. The magnetic measurements confirm that the product shows a ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature, which may be ascribed to a size confinement effect. The NiO nanoparticles prepared by this method could be an appropriate photocatalytic material due to a strong absorption band at 325 nm. This method is simple, fast, safe, low-cost and also suitable for industrial production of high purity NiO nanoparticles for applied purposes.     

Graphene as Gas Sensors

The triatomic and tetratomic gas molecule adsorption effects on the electrical conductivity of graphene are investigated by the tight-binding model, Green's function method, and coherent potential approximation. We find that the electrical conductivity of graphene sheet is sensitive to the adsorption of these gases.     

Remove Degeneracy in Relativistic Symmetries for Manning-Rosen Plus Quasi-Hellman Potentials by Tensor Interaction

The relativistic Dirac equation under spin and pseudo-spin symmetries is investigated for Manning-Rosen plus quasi-Hellman potentials with tensor interaction. For the first time we consider the Hulthen plus Yukawa for tensor interaction. The Formula method is used to obtain the energy eigen-values and wave functions. We also discuss about the energy eigen-values and the Dirac spinors for the Manning-Rosen plus quasi-Hellman potentials for the spin and pseudo-spin symmetry with Formula method. To show the accuracy of the present model, some numerical results are shown in both pseudo-spin and spin symmetry limits.     

Numerical investigation of the magnetic field effect on the heat transfer and fluid flow of ferrofluid inside helical tube

The effect of a magnetic field on heat and fluid flow of ferrofluid in a helical tube is studied numerically. The helical tube is under constant wall temperature boundary condition. Parametric studies are done to investigate the effects of different factors such as the magnetic field gradient value and Reynolds number on heat transfer rate and pressure drop. Results indicate that the magnetic field increases the Nusselt number by about 40%. At high magnetic gradient value, Nusselt number and friction factor rise slightly, while at low magnetic gradient value, the increment of Nusselt number is considerable. Furthermore, the growth of wall shear stress on tube wall results in lower thermal–hydraulic performance at the high magnetic gradient value. There is an optimum case for thermal–hydraulic performance which results in most top performance of helical tube in the presence of the magnetic field.

     

Vacuum spherically symmetric solutions in f(T) gravity

Spherically symmetric static vacuum solutions have been built in f(T) models of gravity theory. We apply some conditions on the metric components; then new vacuum spherically symmetric solutions are obtained. Also, by extracting metric coefficients we determine the analytical form of f(T).     

A novel organocatalytic multi-component reaction: an efficient synthesis of polysubstituted pyrano-fused spirooxindoles

A practical, simple, and efficient method for the synthesis of pyrano-fused spirooxindoles via an organocatalytic three-component reaction of isatins, malononitrile, and dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylate in the presence of 3,4-dimethylaniline as an organocatalyst in ethanol is reported. The structures of these products are confirmed by IR, ¹H NMR and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.     

Comments on “Natural frequencies of a uniform cantilever with a tip mass slender in the axial direction”

Using a power series expansion for the roots of the characteristic equation, the natural frequencies of a cantilevered Euler–Bernoulli beam with an end rigid mass are computed. Results are obtained for a range of center of mass offsets from the end of the beam. The results of current study corrects significant errors in the previous work by Rama Bhat and Wagner (1976).
