Large-volume injection electrothermal AAS combined with tungsten-treated pyrolytic graphite furnace: determination of cadmium in tap, snow and river water samples with phosphate modifier.

A large-volume (100 microl) injection-ETAAS with W-treated PG furnace combined with a phosphate modifier was applied to the determination of unpolluted levels of Cd in tap, snow and river-water samples. The limit of detection of 1.1 ng l(-1) was observed for a 4 w/v% NH4H2PO4 modifer. Matrix interference studies were tested for major ion species well found in fresh water. The direct determination of Cd in certified river water (12 +/- 2 ng l(-1)) was carried out and the observed value was in agreement with the certified one. The good recoveries of Cd added to real environmental water samples were also observed. This method was applied to the determination of Cd in unpolluted environmental water samples.     

Direct determination of benzamides in serum by column-switching high-performance liquid chromatography.

A column-switching high-performance liquid chromatographic method with fluorescence detection was developed for the simultaneous determination of four benzamide-type anti-psychotic drugs: sulpiride, tiapride, sultopride and metoclopramide in human serum. In this method, a TSKgel Super-ODS column was used as an analytical column, and a TSKgel G 2000SW was prepared as a pretreatment column. Under the optimized analytical conditions, four benzamide-type anti-psychotic drugs were eluted within 18 min. The detection limits (S/N = 3) for sulpiride, tiapride, sultopride and metoclopramide are 1 ng/ml, 4 ng/ml, 2 ng/ml and 0.5 ng/ml, respectively. Finally, the method was applied to the determination of sulpiride in human serum samples obtained after a single oral dose of sulpiride.     

Two-mass models of the vocal cords for natural sounding voice synthesis

Three new two-mass models of the vocal cords are treated. First, the features, structure, and differential equations of motion are described for each of the new models and compared with those of previous models. Second, performances of the models are discussed in terms of glottal volume flow, glottal area, radiated sound pressure, trajectories of mass movement, running spectra of the output sound pressure, and perceptual naturalness of the output sound. Finally, the major effects of glottal source-vocal tract interaction including skewing, truncation, and superposition are investigated, using one of the simplest types of two-mass models and two types of load representing the vocal tract.     

Simple and rapid determination of trace amounts of gold(III), palladium(II), and platinum(IV) in industrial waste solutions after recovery of noble metals by combined use of GFAAS and anion-exchange separation.

A simple and rapid method for the analysis of trace amounts of gold(III), palladium(II), and platinum(IV) by the combined use of graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry and anion-exchange separation was proposed, and successfully applied to the rapid determination of metals in industrial waste solutions obtained from the final process of noble-metal recovery factories, because noble metals can be selectively and quantitatively separated to a high degree by using a small column containing only a 0.7 g-portion of a common anion-exchange resin and a dilute thiourea solution.     

Effect of pressure on the solubilities ofo-,m- andp-xylene in water

The solubilities of o-, m- and p-xylene in water were measured at 25.0°C up to 250, 385, and 50 MPa, respectively. The solubility increased with increasing pressure up to 120 MPa (50 MPa for p-xylene) and then decreased. The reaction volumes, V^o accompanying the dissolution at 0.1 MPa were estimated as –3.6±0.5, –3.4±0.5, and –4.1±0.5 cm³-mol^–1 for o-, m-, and p-xylene, respectively, from the pressure dependences of the solubilities. The limiting partial molar volumes, of p- and o-xylene in water under high pressure were estimated from V^o and the molar volume of the xylene. The partial molar volumes decreased with increasing pressure. The reaction volume for the formation of intra-molecular pairwise hydrophobic interaction between the methyl groups, as proposed by Ben-Naim, is discussed for the V^o of p- and o-xylene at 0.1 MPa.     

Nonpeptide arginine vasopressin antagonists for both V1A and V2 receptors: synthesis and pharmacological properties of 4-(1,4,5,6-tetrahydroimidazo[4,5-d][1]benzoazepine-6-carbonyl)benzanili de derivatives and 4'-(5,6-dihydro-4H-thiazolo[5,4-d][1]benzoazepine-6-carbonyl)benzanilid e derivatives

Arginine vasopressin (AVP) has a dual action mainly in the periphery, i.e., vasoconstriction and water reabsorption via V1A and V2 receptors; it may play a role in a number of diseases, including congestive heart failure (CHF), hypertension, renal disease, edema, and hyponatremia. We have attempted to develop a new series of orally active AVP antagonists for both V1A and V2 receptors based on the hypothesis that the blockade of both V1A and V2 receptors might be beneficial to CHF patients. In this report, a series of compounds structurally related to 4'-(1,4,5,6-tetrahydroimidazo[4,5-d][1]benzoazepine-6- carbonyl)benzanilide and 4'-(5,6-dihydro-4H- thiazolo[5,4-d][1]benzoazepine-6-carbonyl)benzanilide were synthesized and examined for AVP antagonist activity for both V1A and V2 receptors. As a result, it was found that the 4'-(1,4,5,6-tetrahydroimidazo[4,5-d][1]benzoazepine-6-carbon yl)-2- phenylbenzanilide derivatives showed potent binding affinity for both V1A and V2 receptors. Especially, 4'-(2-methyl-1,4,5,6- tetrahydroimidazo[4,5-d][1]benzoazepine-6-carbonyl)-2-phe nylbenzanilide monohydrochloride (18, YM087 = conivaptan hydrochloride) exhibited potent binding affinity and AVP antagonist activity, after intravenous administration, for both V1A and V2 receptors. Furthermore, YM087 exhibited the most potent oral activity for the V2 receptor. Details of the synthesis and pharmacological properties of this series are presented.     

Addition reactions of cyclooctatetraene with 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran the benzene ring as dienophile in a [4+2] cycloaddition reaction

Addition reactions of cyclooctatetraene with 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran resulted in the formation of three 1:1 cycloadducts, 1, 2, and 3, and a 1:2 cycloadduct, 4. Single crystal x-ray analysis established 3 to be a cage compound formed by an unprecedented [4+2] cycloaddition reaction of 1 in which the double bond of the benzene moiety acted as the dienophile.     

Massenspektren der von Aminosäuren bzw. Peptiden abgeleiteten Triazin-Derivate

A mass spectrometric study of about 30 triazine derivatives from amino acids and peptides is reported. These derivatives incorporated the C-terminal of amino acids and peptides in the ring. In contrast to the mass spectra of amino acids and peptide esters reported previously, they always showed characteristic fragments, denoting the presence of the terminal triazine ring. By using this peak as a marker, it is easy to estimate the C-terminal of peptides. In dipeptides, the N-terminal and C-terminal are determined simultaneously.
