In view of the time-symmetric nature of the laws of physics, time asymmetry in the universe must arise from “initial” conditions. A fully time-symmetric oscillating model is presented which exists in a highly compressed, highly ordered state att=0 and evolves forward, in the thermodynamic sense, as ∣t ∣ increases. This model offers the possibility of accounting for several fundamental and puzzling aspects of our universe, including matter-antimatter asymmetry, the large entropy per baryon, primordial density enhancements sufficient to form galaxies, and large-scale homogeneity. 相似文献

The effectiveness of intratumoral photoradiation in photodynamic therapy (PDT) using a polyporphyrin photosensitizer was studied in the RT-2 rat glioma model. One week after intracerebral implantation of RT-2 cells, experimental rats received a single i.p. injection of 2 mg/kg of Photofrin. After administration of the photosensitizer (48 h), the tumors were partially resected and the exposed cavity was irradiated with 15 J of laser light at a wavelength of 630 nm. Further treatment with a large craniectomy significantly enhanced rat survival. Control rats which received no photosensitizer but were treated with surgery, alone or in combination with laser irradiation, succumbed from early tumor recurrence. Photodynamic therapy without decompressive surgery resulted in hemorrhagic infarction of residual tumor and adjacent brain with focal cerebral edema which resulted in cerebral herniation and early death. Our results indicate that photodynamic therapy is effective in treating residual brain tumor but at the expense of brain tissue surrounding the tumor. Unless relieved, intracranial pressure from photodynamic therapy-associated cerebral edema in this animal model resulted in shortened survival. 相似文献

It has been suggested that causality problems associated with tachyons can be eliminated by the existence of a perferred frame of rest in which backward time travel is impossible. Furthermore, cosmology provides a de facto preferred rest frame. However, it is demonstrated here that the observed expansion of the universe raises further problems for the existence of tachyons. 相似文献

This paper undertakes a critical reexamination of the electrostatic version of the Aharonov-Bohm (“AB”) effect. The conclusions
are as follows: 1. Aharonov and Bohm’s 1959 exposition is invalid because it does not consider the wavefunction of the entire
system, including the source of electrostatic potential. 2. As originally proposed, the electrostatic AB effect does not exist.
Perhaps surprisingly, this conclusion holds despite the relativistic covariance of the electromagnetic four-potential combined
with the well-established magnetic AB effect. 3. Although the authors attempted, in a 1961 paper, to demonstrate that consideration
of the entire system would not change their result, they inadvertently assumed the desired outcome in their analysis. 4. An
oft-cited claim to have experimentally detected the electrostatic AB effect is mistaken, because the observed interference
effect is clearly due to electric forces acting directly on charged particles. 相似文献
