The Synthesis of Unusual Organic Molecules Using Cyclic Peroxides. New synthetic methods (3)

The photodecarboxylation of malonyl peroxides into α-lactones^[1] and the thermal conversion of the 1,4-endo-peroxide 4,5-epoxy-3,6-epidioxy-1-cyclohexene into the novel benzene trioxide^[2] are two recent examples of the potential of cyclic peroxides in the synthesis of unusual organic molecules. The former transformation entails a fragmentation, the latter a rearrangement process. Most reported examples fall into one of these two gross reaction types. Of the numerous examples that have been reported in the literature during the last two decades, only those shall be focused on that lead to unusual compounds or constitute efficient syntheses of known compounds, in order to stress the convenience of cyclic peroxides in the synthesis of organic compounds.     

Studien über die naphthoresorcin-reaktion von tollens : Zur bestimmung von freier uronsaure neben uronosiden,polyuronosiden und neben anderen kohlenhydraten

A micro determination for free uronic acids based on Tollens' reaction is proposed. Sources of error in earlier methods are avoided by the use of phosphoric acid, a reagent solution in glacial acetic acid, and extraction of the dye with toluene. Free glucuronic acid can be determined in presence of glucuronosides of the phenol-ether type up to molar ratios of ca. 1 : 5. Reliable results can also be obtained in the presence of other carbohydrates.     

Application of Discrete Wavelet Transform in the Analysis of Nonlinear Chemical System

Oscillations of species concentration are phenomena accompanying several types of electrochemical and purely chemical processes. Importance of analyzing of such processes results from both scientific and practical reasons. In the paper the authors deal with investigation of time dependent spectra of various stages of Belousov-Zhabotinsky type chemical oscillations. As the analytical tool the discrete wavelet transform is proposed.     

Preparative uv-laser photochemistry of the azoalkane spiro(2,3-diazabicyclo [2.2.1]hept-2-ene-7′,1-cyclopropane): Trapping of the 1,4-Diradical 2-(3-Cyclopentenyl) ethyl by Molecular Oxygen

Photo-extrusion of nitrogen from the azoalkane 1 in the presence of molecular oxygen gave besides the hydrocarbons 3 and 5, the endoperoxide 10 and hydroperoxide 11, the former via trapping of the 1,4-diradical 4 by triplet oxygen, the latter by ene-reaction-6f hydrocarbon 5 with singlet oxygen.     

Stereochemical memory versus Curtin-Hammett behavior in the rearrangement of 1,3-cyclopentanediyl radical cations derived from housanes through structural effects on conformational control

The electron-transfer-catalyzed rearrangement of the housanes 1 affords regioselectively the two cyclopentenes 2 and 3 by 1,2-migration of a group at the methano bridge. Appropriate ring annelation in the intermediary cyclopentane-1,3-diyl radical cation 1(*+) changes the stereochemical course of the rearrangement from complete stereoselectivity (stereochemical memory) for the structurally simple housane 1b to partial loss of stereoselectivity through competing conformational interconversion for the tricyclic housane 1c. Additional cyclohexane annelation, as in the tetracyclic housane 1a, results in complete loss of stereocontrol through Curtin-Hammett behavior, as substantiated by the viscosity dependence on the product ratio of the rearrangement. Whereas in the radical cations 1b(*+) and 1c(*+) the 1,2-shifts (k(2) and k(3)) are faster than the conformational anti <==> syn change (k(1), k(-1)), the reverse applies for the radical cation 1a(*+). Such structural manipulation of conformational effects in radical cation rearrangements has hitherto not been documented.     

Dynamics of theD-dimensional FRW-cosmological models within the superstring-generated gravity model

We study the dynamics of the generalizedD-dimensional (D = 1+3+d) Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmological models in the framework of an extended gravity theory obtained by adding the Gauss-Bonnet term to the standard Einstein-Hilbert action. In our discussion we extensively use methods of dynamical systems. We consider models filled in with a perfect fluid obeying the equation of statep=(–1) and vacuum but non-flat models. We present a detailed analysis of the ten dimensional model and in particular we study the vacuum case. Several phase portraits show how the evolution of this model depends on the parameter.     

High peak power Nd:YAG laser pumped by 600-W diode laser stack

The Q-switched laser with triangle slab made of Nd:YAG crystal side pumped by 600-W quasi-cw diode laser stack has been designed. The multimode (M²≈2.6) output energy of about 42 mJ was demonstrated in free running mode for110-mJ pump energy. In Q-switch experiments, the KDDP Pockels cell was placed between the slab and rear mirror in plane-plane cavity with output coupler of 84% transmission. The energy of 8 mJ in 2.1-ns pulse duration was obtained for near TEM₀₀ output beam. For passive Q-switching by means of Cr:YAG crystal of 12.6% unsaturated transmission, the energy of 5.1 mJ in 2.5-ns pulse duration was obtained for output beam close to TEM₀₀ mode.     

Multipliers and singular integrals on exponential growth groups

We propose a simple abstract version of Calderón–Zygmund theory, which is applicable to spaces with exponential volume growth, and then show that important specific operators can be treated within this framework. Both authors are part of the European TMR network entitled ``Harmonic Analysis'. The first author was partially supported by KBN grant 5 P03A 050 20 and by the TMR network. Single-pass high-harmonic generation at 20.8 MHz repetition rate

We report on single-pass high-harmonic generation (HHG) with amplified driving laser pulses at a repetition rate of 20.8?MHz. An Yb:YAG Innoslab amplifier system provides 35?fs pulses with 20?W average power at 1030?nm after external pulse compression. Following tight focusing into a xenon gas jet, we observe the generation of high-harmonic radiation of up to the seventeenth order. Our results show that state-of-the-art amplifier systems have become a promising alternative to cavity-assisted HHG for applications that require high repetition rates, such as frequency comb spectroscopy in the extreme UV.     

Investigation of metabolic changes in irradiated rat brain tissue by means of 1H NMR in vitro relaxation study

The effect of irradiation on concentrations and relaxation behaviour of brain metabolites was studied by means of high-resolution 1H NMR in vitro. The studies were performed on rat brains irradiated with the doses of 20 Gy applied in fractions of 2 Gy. Standard procedures were used to obtain HClO4 extracts of rat brains. The 1H NMR studies of the extracts solutions in D2O were performed using a Varian Inova-300 NMR spectrometer. The integral intensities of the metabolite signals were found to change during the irradiation cycle and after it. These changes are accompanied by the variations in the T1 relaxation times. N-acetylaspartate, glycerophosphocholine, phosphocholine, choline, creatine and phosphocreatine, myoinositol and taurine were analysed as potential markers of irradiation injury.
