The adsorption of the dicarboxylates o-phthalate, maleate, fumarate, malonate, and oxalate (representing ligands with the general composition −O2C---Cn---CO2−; n=0, 1, or 2) on gibbsite were studied by means of quantitative batch adsorption experiments and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy. The interpretations of ATR-FTIR spectra were aided by comparison with IR spectra of solution species and by results from theoretical frequency calculations. The main objectives of the study were to identify the molecular level bonding mechanisms of the dicarboxylates to gibbsite, and to investigate how these were influenced by the composition and structure of the ligands. Carboxylates with n=2 formed predominantly outer sphere complexes, whereas the importance of inner sphere complexes progressively increased for n=1 and 0. The inner sphere structures were identified as mononuclear chelates with one oxygen from each carboxylate group bonded to Al(III) at the surface. This showed the importance of chelate ring structure for the formation of inner sphere surface complexes, with stabilities of the complexes increasing in the order seven-membered ring less than six-membered ring less than five-membered ring. For ligands with n=2 only small variations in surface speciation were observed as a function of steric factors; irrespective of the relative positions of the carboxylate groups and bulkiness of the ligands outer sphere bonding is the dominating adsorption mode. Adsorption experiments were also conducted with gibbsite particles exhibiting differences in shape and surface roughness. A miniaturised technique to analyse and detect heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAs) using micro solid-phase extraction (SPE) coupled on-line (in-capillary) to capillary electrophoresis (CE) separation with nanospray (nESI) mass spectrometry (MS) detection has been developed. HAs are mutagenic and carcinogenic compounds formed at low levels in protein-rich food during cooking. Due to the low concentrations of HAs and the high complexity of the matrix in which they exist, sensitive and selective analytical methods are required for quantification. SPE was performed on a packed bed of C18 particles inside the CE capillary, which minimised the dead volume. The on-line coupling of SPE, CE and nESI-MS reduced the time for extraction and identification to less than half an hour, which will allow for screening of several samples per day. The new technique provides short analysis time, low sample and solvent consumption, and HAs in standard solutions were easily detected at 12–17 fmol injections, and in spiked urine samples at 750–810 fmol injections. 相似文献

A novel procedure for immobilization of liposomes inside fused-silica capillaries is demonstrated. First, the inner wall of the capillaries was coated with a positively charged polymer, composed of derivatized agarose. Subsequently, negatively charged liposomes were immobilized by electrostatic interaction on the polymer coating. The developed liposome coated capillaries were used as a nanoseparation tool for studying interactions between small drug compounds and liposomes. We present minimalistic and cost-efficient instrumentation employing tunable diode laser gas spectroscopy for the characterization of porous and highly scattering solids. The sensitivity reaches 3 x 10(-6) (absorption fraction), and the improvement with respect to previous work in this field is a factor of 10. We also provide the first characterization of the interference phenomenon encountered in high-resolution spectroscopy of turbid samples. Revealing that severe optical interference originates from the samples, we discuss important implications for system design. In addition, we introduce tracking coils and sample rotation as new and efficient tools for interference suppression. The great value of the approach is illustrated in an application addressing structural properties of pharmaceutical materials. 相似文献

The slow aggregation process of a concentrated silica dispersion (Bindzil 40/220) in the presence of alkali chlorides (LiCl, NaCl, KCl, RbCl, and CsCl) was investigated by means of mobility measurements. At intervals during the aggregation, particles and aggregates were transferred from the liquid phase to the gas phase via electrospray (ES) and subsequently size selected and counted using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS). This method enables the acquisition of particle and aggregate size distributions with a time resolution of minutes. To our knowledge, this is the first time that the method has been applied to study the process of colloidal aggregation. The obtained results indicate that, independent of the type of counterion, a sufficient dilution of the formed gel will cause the particles to redisperse. Hence, the silica particles are, at least initially, reversibly aggregated. The reversibility of the aggregation indicates additional non-DLVO repulsive steric interactions that are likely due to the presence of a gel layer at the surface. The size of the disintegrating aggregates was monitored as a function of the time after dilution. It was found that the most stable aggregates were formed by the ions that adsorb most strongly on the particle surface. This attractive effect was ascribed to an ion-ion correlation interaction. 相似文献

Different methods for treatment of leachate from a municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill were tested in a pilot plant. Raw leachate was pre-treated with aeration and sedimentation, followed by several parallel individual steps such as bioremediation, chemical oxidation, ozonation, and geo-bed filters. The efficiency of different treatment steps was evaluated according to one previously developed protocol, which includes measurements of several parameters such as conductivity, pH, nutrients, chloride, metals, organic compounds, and acute toxicity before and after a treatment step. The treatment steps which showed the highest efficiency towards organic pollutants in leachate were ozone treatment and chemical oxidation. The use of an adsorption filter, a geo-bed with a mixture of peat and bottom ash with ca 10% remaining carbon, also had good effects. A combination of pre-treatment and a geo-bed filter with peat and carbon ash gave the best overall treatment results when water-quality parameters such as total organic carbon and ammonia-nitrogen were also considered. 相似文献

The purpose of this investigation is to develop a rapid and simple method for the assessment of organophosphorus pesticides in bovine muscle by using solid-phase extraction (SPE). After extraction with ethyl acetate (EtOAc) the homogenate is centrifuged and filtered through sodium sulfate. The fat is precipitated in methanol by cooling and the extract is diluted with water and passed through a SPE column (Isolute ENV+). After elution with EtOAc, evaporation, and redissolution, the sample is injected into a gas chromatographic (GC) capillary column DB-1701 and detected by a flame photometric detector. Recoveries from bovine muscle fortified with 12 pesticides between 4 and 65 microg/kg include three levels ranging between 59% and 109% for ten of them. The two most polar pesticides (metamidophos and acephate) are not successful. The relative standard deviations are between 1% and 10% for the ten pesticides. A simplex method is used to optimize the GC conditions. 相似文献

sponge tissue (Stylinos sp.) with AHLs resulted in detection down to 0.01 ppm for 3-oxo-hexanoyl homoserine lactone (3-oxo C6-HSL) and 1 ppm for hexanoyl homoserine lactone (C6-HSL). A series of six new dyads consisting of a zinc or magnesium porphyrin appended to a platinum terpyridine acetylide complex via a para-phenylene bisacetylene spacer are described. Different substituents on the 4' position of the terpyridinyl ligand were explored (OC7H15, PO3Et2, and H). The ground-state electronic properties of the dyads are studied by electronic absorption spectroscopy and electrochemistry, and they indicate some electronic interactions between the porphyrin subunit and the platinum complex. The photophysical properties of these dyads were investigated by steady-state, time-resolved, and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy in N,N-dimethylformamide solution. Excitation of the porphyrin unit leads to a very rapid electron transfer (2-20 ps) to the nearby platinum complex followed by an ultrafast charge recombination, thus preventing any observation of the charge separated state. The variation in the rate of the photoinduced electron transfer in the series of dyads is consistent with Marcus theory. The results underscore the potential of the para-phenylene bisacetylene bridge to mediate a rapid electron transfer over a long donor-acceptor distance. 相似文献
