Synthesis, X-ray diffraction analysis and NMR studies of (Z)-2-methyl-3-triphenylstannyl-3-pentene-2-ol

The synthesis of (Z)-2-methyl-3-triphenylstannyl-3-pentene-2-ol and its characterization by an X-ray diffraction study and multinuclear NMR are reported. The tin atom exhibits a distorted tetrahedral SnC₄ geometry with the four Sn---C bond distances experimentally equivalent. The slight distortion from the ideal tetrahedral geometry is because of the presence of a weak intramolecular HO → Sn interaction of 3.012(3) Å which produces a loose four-membered ring. The title compound was characterized in solution by ¹H, ¹³C and ¹¹⁹Sn NMR, and the persistence of the weak intramolecular HO → Sn coordination in solution was revealed by ¹³C and ¹¹⁹Sn secondary isotope multiplet of partially labelled entities (SIMPLE-NMR) experiments.     

Oligo(p-phenylenevinylene)-peptide conjugates: synthesis and self-assembly in solution and at the solid-liquid interface

Two oligo(p-phenylenevinylene)-peptide hybrid amphiphiles have been synthesized using solid- and liquid-phase strategies. The amphiliphiles are composed of a pi-conjugated oligo(p-phenylenevinylene) trimer (OPV) which is coupled at either a glycinyl-alanyl-glycinyl-alanyl-glycine (GAGAG) silk-inspired beta-sheet or a glycinyl-alanyl-asparagyl-prolyl-asparagy-alanyl-alanyl-glycine (GANPNAAG) beta-turn forming oligopeptide sequence. The solid-phase strategy enables one to use longer peptides if strong acidic conditions are avoided, whereas the solution-phase coupling gives better yields. The study of the two-dimensional (2D) self-assembly of OPV-GAGAG by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at the submolecular level demonstrated the formation of bilayers in which the molecules are lying antiparallel in a beta-sheet conformation. In the case of OPV-GANPNAAG self-assembled monolayers could not be observed. Absorption, fluorescence, and circular dichroism studies showed that OPV-GAGAG and OPV-GANPNAAG are aggregated in a variety of organic solvents. In water cryogenic temperature transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), light scattering, and optical studies reveal that self-assembled nanofibers are formed in which the helical organization of the OPV segments is dictated by the peptide sequence.     

Heritability of Stroop and flanker performance in 12-year old children

Background  

There is great interest in appropriate phenotypes that serve as indicator of genetically transmitted frontal (dys)function, such as ADHD. Here we investigate the ability to deal with response conflict, and we ask to what extent performance variation on response interference tasks is caused by genetic variation. We tested a large sample of 12-year old monozygotic and dizygotic twins on two well-known and closely related response interference tasks; the color Stroop task and the Eriksen flanker task. Using structural equation modelling we assessed the heritability of several performance indices derived from those tasks.

Synthesis,structural characterization and cytotoxic activity of organotin derivatives of indomethacin

The synthesis, characterization and cytotoxic properties in vitro of tri‐n‐butyltin 1‐(4‐chlorobenzoyl)‐5‐methoxy‐2‐methyl‐1H‐indole‐3‐acetate ( 1 ), tri‐phenyltin 1‐(4‐chlorobenzoyl)‐5‐methoxy‐2‐methyl‐1H‐indole‐3‐acetate ( 2 ), tetra‐n‐butyltin[bis‐1‐(4‐chlorobenzoyl)‐5‐methoxy‐2‐methyl‐1H‐indole‐3‐acetato]distannoxane ( 3 ) and di‐n‐butyltin bis‐1‐(4‐chlorobenzoyl)‐5‐methoxy‐2‐methyl‐1H‐indole‐3‐acetate ( 4 ) are described. These compounds have been characterized by ¹H, ¹³C and ¹¹⁹Sn NMR spectroscopy in solution and ¹¹⁹Sn NMR in the solid state, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and X‐ray diffraction for compound 1 . The growth inhibition effects of compounds 1–4 against the lung adenocarcinoma cell line SK‐LU‐1 as well as the cervical cancer cell line HeLa were determined.
