We propose a concept of a low-symmetry three-dimensional metamaterial exhibiting a double-continuum Fano (DCF) optical resonance. Such metamaterial is described as a birefringent medium supporting a discrete dark electromagnetic state weakly coupled to the continua of two nondegenerate bright bands of orthogonal polarizations. It is demonstrated that light propagation through such DCF metamaterial can be slowed down over a broad frequency range when the medium parameters (e.g., frequency of the dark mode) are adiabatically changed along the optical path. Using a specific metamaterial implementation, we demonstrate that the DCF approach to slow light is superior to that of the electromagnetically induced transparency because it enables spectrally uniform group velocity and transmission coefficient.  相似文献

An experiment on the investigation of optical diffraction radiation (ODR) from a slit target as a possible tool for noninvasive electron beam-size diagnostics has been performed at the KEK accelerator test facility. The experimental setup has been installed at the diagnostics section of the extraction line. We have performed the first incoherent ODR observation from a slit target. The measured angular distributions are in reasonable agreement with the theoretical expectation. The beam-size effect onto the ODR angular pattern has been observed. Moreover, the sensitivity to the beam size as small as 14 microm has been achieved.  相似文献

Electromagnetic properties of periodic two-dimensional subwavelength structures consisting of closely packed inclusions of materials with negative dielectric permittivity epsilon in a dielectric host with positive epsilon(h) can be engineered using the concept of multiple electrostatic resonances. Fully electromagnetic solutions of Maxwell's equations reveal multiple wave propagation bands, with the wavelengths much longer than the nanostructure period. Some of these bands are described using the quasistatic theory of the effective dielectric permittivity epsilon(qs). Those bands exhibit multiple cutoffs and resonances which are found to be related to each other through a duality condition. An additional propagation band characterized by a negative magnetic permeability is found. Imaging with subwavelength resolution in that band is demonstrated.  相似文献

Highly confined "spoof" surface plasmons (SSPs) are theoretically predicted to exist in a perforated metal film coated with a thin dielectric layer. Strong modes confinement results from the additional waveguiding by the layer. Spectral characteristics, field distribution, and lifetime of these SSPs are tunable by the holes' size and shape. SSPs exist both above and below the light line, offering two classes of applications: "perfect" far-field absorption and efficient emission into guided modes. It is experimentally shown that these plasmonlike modes can turn thin, weakly absorbing semiconductor films into perfect absorbers.  相似文献

Novel method of potentiometric detection of DNA‐protein interactions has been proposed. For this purpose, polymeric phenothiazine dyes, methylene blue (MB) and methylene green (MG), were electrochemically deposited onto the glassy carbon electrode and covered with double stranded DNA (dsDNA) as a target for antibodies (DNA‐sensor) or DNA aptamer specific to human α‐thrombin (aptasensor). The biosensors were consecutively incubated at pH 7.5 and 3.0 and the difference in potentials, ΔE, was used as a measure of protein concentration. The potentiometric DNA‐sensors were tested in standard serum of autoimmune disease patients (systemic lupus erythemathosus (SLE) and autoimmune thyroidites). It was shown, that the ΔE value of DNA‐sensor depends on the dilution of serum in the range from 1 : 1 to 1 : 100. Nonthermostated serum exhibited bell‐shape dependence of ΔE on serum dilution due to interfering effect of serine proteins at maximum dilution between 1 : 20 and 1 : 50. For SLE serum thermostated at 56 °C the ΔE linearly decreased as a function of serum dilution and reached saturation at dilution 1 : 20. Similarly the changes in the potential of aptasensor allowed us to determine the α‐thrombin in the range from 1 nM to 1 μM. The Faradic impedance spectra measured at presence of redox probe [Fe(CN)6]4?/3? revealed changes in the resistance and capacitance attributed to the shielding effect of anti‐DNA antibodies and an increase in the electron transfer. The developed potentiometric biosensors can be used for preliminary diagnostics of autoimmune diseases and thrombin detection with sensitivity comparable to traditional methods. The developed assay is, however simpler and cheaper in comparison with commonly used methods.  相似文献

Recent research revealed that tissue spray mass spectrometry enables rapid molecular profiling of biological tissues, which is of great importance for the search of disease biomarkers as well as for online surgery control. However, the payback for the high speed of analysis in tissue spray analysis is the generally lower chemical sensitivity compared with the traditional approach based on the offline chemical extraction and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry detection. In this study, high resolution mass spectrometry analysis of endometrium tissues of different localizations obtained using direct tissue spray mass spectrometry in positive ion mode is compared with the results of electrospray ionization analysis of lipid extracts. Identified features in both cases belong to three lipid classes: phosphatidylcholines, phosphoethanolamines, and sphingomyelins. Lipids coverage is validated by hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry of lipid extracts. Multivariate analysis of data from both methods reveals satisfactory differentiation of eutopic and ectopic endometrium tissues. Overall, our results indicate that the chemical information provided by tissue spray ionization is sufficient to allow differentiation of endometrial tissues by localization with similar reliability but higher speed than in the traditional approach relying on offline extraction.
