Using deformation theory, Braverman and Joseph constructed certain primitive ideals in the enveloping algebras of the simple Lie algebras. Except in the case sl(2,C), there is a special value of the deformation parameter giving an ideal of infinite codimension. For the classical Lie algebras, the uniqueness of the special value is equivalent to the existence of tensors with very particular properties. The existence of these tensors was concluded abstractly by Braverman and Joseph but here we present explicit formulae. This allows a rather direct computation of the special value of the deformation parameter. 相似文献

This article describes the construction of a natural family of conformally invariant differential operators on a four-dimensional (pseudo-)Riemannian manifold. Included in this family are the usual massless field equations for arbitrary helicity but there are many more besides. The article begins by classifying the invariant operators on flat space. This is a fairly straightforward task in representation theory best solved through the theory of Verma modules. An experimental study of a spiral counterflow “Swiss roll” burner was conducted, with emphasis on the determination of extinction limits and comparison of results with and without bare-metal Pt catalyst. A wide range of Reynolds numbers (Re) were tested using propane–air mixtures. Both lean and rich extinction limits were extended with the catalyst, though rich limits were extended much further. With the catalyst, combustion could be sustained at Re as low as 1.2 with peak temperatures as low as 350 K. A heat transfer parameter characterizing the thermal performance of both gas-phase and catalytic combustion at all Re was identified. At low Re, the “lean” extinction limit was actually rich of stoichiometric, and rich-limit had equivalence ratios exceeded 40 in some cases. No corresponding behavior was observed without the catalyst. Gas-phase combustion, in general, occurred in a “flameless” mode near the burner center. With or without catalyst, for sufficiently robust conditions (high Re, near-stoichiometric) not requiring heat recirculation, a visible flame would propagate out of the center, but this flame could only be re-centered if the catalyst were present. Gas chromatography indicated that at low Re, even in extremely rich mixtures, CO and non-propane hydrocarbons did not form. For higher Re, where both gas-phase and catalytic combustion could occur, catalytic limits were slightly broader but had much lower limit temperatures. At sufficiently high Re, catalytic and gas-phase limits merged. It is concluded that combustion at low Re in heat-recirculating burners greatly benefits from catalytic combustion with the proper choice of mixtures that are different from those preferred for gas-phase combustion. In particular, the importance of providing a reducing environment for the catalyst to enhance O2 desorption, especially at low Re where heat losses are severe thus peak temperatures are low, is noted. 相似文献

The extent of where magnetic reconnection (MR), the dominant process responsible for energy and plasma transport into the magnetosphere, operates across Earth's dayside magnetopause has previously been only indirectly shown by observations. We report the first direct evidence of X-line structure resulting from the operation of MR at each of two widely separated locations along the tilted, subsolar line of maximum current on Earth's magnetopause, confirming the operation of MR at two or more sites across the extended region where MR is expected to occur. The evidence results from in-situ observations of the associated ion and electron plasma distributions, present within each magnetic X-line structure, taken by two spacecraft passing through the active MR regions simultaneously. 相似文献

Experimental data and theoretical criteria are used to critically review existing models for analyte emission enhancement in the 3-electrode d.c. plasma (DCP). The analytical zone is characterized as a non-optically thin recombining plasma in partial thermodynamic equilibrium (PTE). Spectrochemical excitation the authors ascribe largely to: (1) argon resonance line radiative transport; (2) inversion of optically pumped argon states; (3) inversion of analyte populations by Franck-Condon collisions with argon; (4) energy cascading in analytes via a multitude of channels. Adding an easily ionized element (EIE): (1) induces additional resonance line radiative transfer; (2) raises electron densities in cooler, analyte-rich plasma margins; (3) locally increases argon optical absorption cross sections via Stark broadening; (4) redistributes ohmic heating. Coupling between the proposed mechanisms is non-linear. Relationships between radiative transfer and collisional redistribution and (1) background suppression by EIE and (2) analyte emission enhancement by helium are also examined. Similarities between DCP and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) excitation mechanisms are noted and practical implications are addressed. 相似文献
