The melt mixing technique was used to prepare various polypropylene (PP)‐based (nano)composites. Two commercial organoclays (denoted 20A and 30B) served as the fillers for the PP matrix, and two different maleated (so‐called) compatibilizers (denoted PP‐MA and SMA) were employed as the third component. The results from X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) experiments revealed that 190 °C was an adequate temperature for preparing the nanocomposites. Nanocomposites were achieved only if specific pairs of organoclay and compatibilizer were simultaneously incorporated in the PP matrix. For example, PP/20A(5 wt %)/PP‐MA(10 wt %) and PP/30B(5 wt %)/SMA(5 wt %) composites exhibited nanoscaled dispersion of 20A or 30B in the PP matrix. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results indicated that the organoclays served as nucleation agents for the PP matrix. Generally, their nucleation effectiveness increased with the addition of compatibilizers. The thermal stability enhancement of PP after adding 20A was confirmed with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The enhancement became more evident as a suitable compatibilizer was further added. However, for the 30B‐included composites, thermal stability enhancement was not evident. The dynamic mechanical properties (i.e., storage modulus and loss modulus) of PP increased as the nanocomposites were formed; the properties increment corresponded to the organoclay dispersion status in the matrix. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymerization of 2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DEAEMA) via homogeneous atom transfer radical polymerization under various reaction conditions is described. The effects of the initiators and solvents were examined. With 1,1,4,7,10,10‐hexamethyl triethylenetetramine/copper(I) chloride/p‐toluenesulfonyl chloride as the ligand/catalyst/initiator system in methanol, poly(DEAEMA) with a polydispersity index as low as 1.07 was synthesized. Kinetic studies demonstrated the polymerization was very well controlled and exhibited the living characteristic of the process. Well‐defined block copolymers of DEAEMA and tert‐butyl methacrylate (tBMA) were successfully synthesized. The copolymers could be synthesized with equally good results by starting with either p(DEAEMA) or p(tBMA) as the macroinitiators. However, only the macroinitiators terminated with chlorine should be used. The corresponding macroinitiators with bromine as a transferable group did not yield well‐defined copolymers. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel epoxy system was developed through the in situ curing of bisphenol A type epoxy and 4,4′‐diaminodiphenylmethane with the sol–gel reaction of a phosphorus‐containing trimethoxysilane (DOPO–GPTMS), which was prepared from the reaction of 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) with 3‐glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS). The preparation of DOPO–GPTMS was confirmed with Fourier transform infrared, 1H and 31P NMR, and elemental analysis. The resulting organic–inorganic hybrid epoxy resins exhibited a high glass‐transition temperature (167 °C), good thermal stability over 320 °C, and a high limited oxygen index of 28.5. The synergism of phosphorus and silicon on flame retardance was observed. An already well-established recognition motif-namely one in which the NH2+ centers in the rod sections of the dumbbell components of rotaxanes are encircled by macrocyclic polyether components-has been turned simultaneously outside-in and inside-out, a fact that has been proved beyond any doubt by the stoppering of both ends of a [2]pseudorotaxane to give a stable [2]rotaxane. The [2]pseudorotaxane is formed in nitromethane when a benzylic dibromide, obtained after reacting an excess of 1,4-bis(bromomethyl)benzene with hexaethylene glycol, is added to an equimolar amount of a dicationic cyclophane in which two -CH2OCH2- chains link a pair of dibenzylammonium ions through the para positions on their phenyl rings. When the [2]pseudorotaxane is reacted in nitromethane with triphenylphosphine, a [2]rotaxane and the corresponding free dumbbell compound are isolated in 58 and 31% yields, respectively. The structure of the [2]rotaxane is established by using mass spectrometry (FABMS and ESMS) and NMR (1H and 13C) spectroscopy in nitromethane-d3. The [2]rotaxane exhibits quite dramatic changes in the 1H chemical shifts of the signals for its CH2N+ and CH2O protons compared with those in the free dumbbell compound. The 1H NMR spectrum of the [2]pseudorotaxane shows many similar features. Titration experiments with three of the six different CH2O probes give an average Ka value of 2900 +/- 750 M-1 in nitromethane-d3. The new recognition motif for the template-directed synthesis of rotaxanes can now be exploited at both the molecular and macromolecular levels of structure with numerous potential applications in sight.  相似文献

The role of Al5Ti3 and h-Al2Ti long-period superstructures on the plastic properties of TiAl at room temperature is investigated on five single crystals with aluminium content comprised between 54.7 at.%, and 62.5 at.%. After annealing at 1200°C for 1?h, the Al5Ti3 superstructure develops in the L10 (γ) matrix upon increasing Al concentration except for Ti–62.5 at.%Al where h-Al2Ti substitutes for Al5Ti3. The CRSS for <110]{111} first increases abruptly with the development of the Al5Ti3-type ordering. Then, the CRSS reaches a plateau at which dislocations assemble in groups of four to prevent extra anti-phase boundary (APB) from being engendered during glide throughout the Al5Ti3 phase. In Ti–62.5 at.%Al, the CRSS for ordinary slip further increases upon the precipitation of h-Al2Ti in the L10 phase, whereas it decreases when the crystal is fully transformed into single-phased Al5Ti3. <101] superlattice dislocations are primarily activated under both the [210] and [1?1?8.6] load orientations irrespective of the Al concentration, but the dislocation microstructure strongly depends on orientation as well as on the degree of Al5Ti3 ordering. In the [210] orientation, the frequency of the decomposition of <101] dislocations into 1/2<110] and 1/2<112] dislocations decreases abruptly with the development of Al5Ti3. This is interpreted in terms of the increased difficulty to move ordinary dislocations. Under the [1?1?8.6] orientation, the density of faulted dipoles diminishes remarkably with the development of Al5Ti3. This is consistent with the transformation of the low energy extrinsic stacking fault of the L10 phase into a higher energy complex extrinsic stacking fault.  相似文献

The effect of refractory element addition on phase transformation, crystallization behavior and magnetic properties of Pr8.5Fe81.5B10 (addition-free) and Pr8.5Fe81.5M2B10 (M=V, Cr, Nb, Zr, Ti) ribbons has been investigated. The annealed addition-free ribbon as well as the samples with V or Cr additions are mainly composed of the metastable Pr2Fe23B3 phase, whereas annealed ribbons with Nb, Zr or Ti additions primarily consist of Pr2Fe14B and a minor amount of Fe3B/boride. The complete suppression of the metastable Pr2Fe23B3 phase due to Nb, Zr or Ti additions leads to a significant enhancement of the magnetic properties. For example, the remanence, the coercivity and the energy product are remarkably increased from 2.5 kG, 0.4 kOe and 0.2 MG Oe for the addition-free material to 9.2 kG, 4.7 kOe and 7.6 MG Oe for the specimens with Nb addition. The successful elimination of the metastable Pr2Fe23B3 phase is believed to profit from two factors: (a) Nb, Zr or Ti atoms substitute the Pr site, comparatively increase the Pr content, and thus inhibit the nucleation of Pr-lean Pr2Fe23B3 phases, and (b) the formation of Nb, Zr, or Ti borides consumes some part of B, which hinders the generation of the B-rich Pr2Fe23B3 phase.  相似文献

Electroweak Sudakov corrections of the form alphanlogms/MW,Z2 are summed using renormalization group evolution in soft-collinear effective theory. Results are given for the scalar, vector, and tensor form factors for fermion and scalar particles. VO2 thin films are grown on glass substrates by pulsed laser deposition using vanadium metal as a target. In this study, a ZnO thin film was used as a buffer layer for the growth of VO2 thin films on glass substrates. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the VO2 thin film had b-axis preferential orientation on a c-axis oriented ZnO buffer layer. The thickness of the ZnO buffer layer and the oxygen pressure during VO2 deposition were optimized to grow highly b-axis oriented VO2 thin films. The metal-insulator transition properties of the VO2 film samples were investigated in terms of infrared reflectance and electrical resistance with varying temperatures.  相似文献

The geometric and the most band structures of monolayer and AB-stacked bilayer graphenes exhibit strong anisotropy. Nevertheless, the absorption spectra are isotropic for the polarization vector on graphene plane. The velocity matrix elements dominate this property. These results suggest that AA- and AB-stacked few-layer graphenes and graphites manifest this feature.  相似文献
