Hypoglycemic and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Triterpene Glycoside Fractions from Aeculus hippocastanum Seeds

Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L.)-derived drugs have shown their potential in biomedical applications. The seed of A. hippocastanum contains various kinds of chemical compounds including phenolics, flavonoids, coumarins, and triterpene saponins. Here, we investigated the chemical components in A. hippocastanum L. grown in Uzbekistan, which has not yet been studied in detail. We identified 30 kinds of triterpene saponins in an extract of A. hippocastanum L. Classifying extracted saponins into eight fractions, we next studied the hypoglycemic and the anti-inflammatory activities of escin and its derivatives through in vivo experiments. We came by data indicating the highest (SF-1 and SF-2) and the lowest (SF-5 and SF-8) antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory effects of those eight fractions. These results imply the prospective use of A. hippocastanum L. grown in Uzbekistan in the production of pharmaceutical drugs to treat diabetes and inflammation.

Quaternary structure of cottonseed triacetinase

Summary 1. It has been established that the triacetinase of cotton seeds with mol. wt. 40,000 consists of two active subunits with mol. wt. 20,000, each of which in its turn consists of two protomers with mol. wt. 10,000 bound to one another by lipids.2. The conditions for the dissociation and association of the subunits have been determined. Preparation and Properties of Monoclonal Antibodies to Recombinant HBsAg Produced by Silkworm Larvae

Monoclonal antibodies to recombinant HBsAg produced by silkworm (Bombyx mori) larvae were prepared. The cross reactivity of the prepared antibodies was studied by solid-phase enzyme-linked immmunosorbent assay. Summary 1. Peptides from a chymotryptic hydrolyzate of cyanogen bromide fragment B-7 have been isolated and characterized. The structure of some peptides of the chymotryptic hydrolyzate have been studied and this has enabled the tryptic peptides to be linked up.2. The peptides of a thermolysin hydrolyzate of cyanogen bromide B-5 have been isolated and characterized.
