Composites, containing different concentrations of palladium (II) acetylacetonate in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) matrix were prepared by vigorous mixing. PMMA was prepared by solution polymerization technique. The composites were irradiated with a 120 MeV Ni10+ beam at two different fluences of 1×1011 and 5×1012 ions/cm2 to study ion-induced effects on their dielectric, structural properties and surface morphology. AC electrical properties of these samples were studied in the frequency range 100 Hz to 10 MHz. The dielectric permittivity/loss shows frequency dependent behavior and it obeys the universal law of dielectric (i.e.f n?1) for pristine and irradiated samples at high frequency. The crystalline size and crystallinity of the composites were studied by X-ray diffraction analysis. Decrease in peak intensity after irradiation signifies the amorphization which is also responsible for decrease in T g as obtained by means of differential scanning calorimetry measurement. Fourier transform infrared spectra also support this result. Surface roughness increases upon irradiation as observed from scanning electron microscopy.  相似文献

Background and purpose

Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (PMRS) has high sensitivity and specificity for the detection of pyogenic brain abscess and the categorization of bacteria. But the metabolite patterns failed to evaluate the etiology of disease when the culture results are sterile. The aim of the present study is to compare the multimodality techniques viz., conventional culture, MR spectroscopy and 16S rRNA PCR and sequencing for rapid diagnosis of etiology in brain abscess and evaluate the PMRS in culture sterile samples and also demonstrate the sensitivity and specificity of these techniques.

Methods

Thirty five patients underwent MRI on a 3 T MRI and in-vivo PMRS for the diagnosis and evaluation of various resonances of metabolites such as lipid (LIP), lactate (LAC), acetate (AC), amino acid (AC), succinate (SUC). Pus was collected for identification of etiologic agents by culture and molecular method.

Results

In 35 samples, metabolite patterns were as follows: LIP/LAC/AA, n = 17, LIP/LAC/AA/SUC with or without AC, n = 17 and LIP/LAC/AA/AC, n = 1. Culture showed bacterial growth in 22 samples (18 aerobic/facultative anaerobic, 9 anaerobic) whereas molecular method was detected 26 aerobic/facultative anaerobic, 13 anaerobic, 4 microaerophilic bacteria. Among the 13 sterile samples, molecular method detected 16 microorganisms along with 3 mixed infections and PMRS recognized metabolite patterns as LIP/LAC/AA, n = 5 and LIP/LAC/AA/SUC with or without AC, n = 8. The sensitivity of in-vivo PMRS in sterile samples was 100% and 75%, and specificity was 75% and 100% for aerobic and anaerobic organisms respectively.

Conclusion

Based on metabolite resonances, PMRS can detect slow growing and fastidious organisms and classify them into aerobic and anaerobic bacteria which are difficult to culture by conventional method. It can categorize microorganisms even in culture sterile samples with rational sensitivity and specificity which may allow early choice of targeted therapy.  相似文献

The study was aimed to test the feasibility of utilizing an algorithmically determinable stable fiber mass (SFM) map obtained by an unsupervised principal eigenvector field segmentation (PEVFS) for automatic delineation of 18 white matter (WM) tracts: (1) corpus callosum (CC), (2) tapetum (TP), (3) inferior longitudinal fasciculus (ILF), (4) uncinate fasciculus (UNC), (5) inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFO), (6) optic pathways (OP), (7) superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF), (8) arcuate fasciculus (AF), (9) fornix (FX), (10) cingulum (CG), (11) anterior thalamic radiation (ATR), (12) superior thalamic radiation (STR), (13) posterior thalamic radiation (PTR), (14) corticospinal/corticopontine tract (CST/CPT), (15) medial lemniscus (ML), (16) superior cerebellar peduncle (SCP), (17) middle cerebellar peduncle (MCP) and (18) inferior cerebellar peduncle (ICP). Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)-derived fractional anisotropy (FA) and the principal eigenvector field have been used to create the SFM consisting of a collection of linear voxel structures which are grouped together by color-coding them into seven natural classes to provide PEVFS signature segments which greatly facilitate the selection of regions of interest (ROIs) for fiber tractography using just a single mouse click, as compared with a manual drawing of ROIs in the classical approach. All the 18 fiber bundles have been successfully reconstructed, in all the subjects, using the single ROIs provided by the SFM approach, with their reproducibility characterized by the fact that the ROI selection is user independent. The essentially automatic PEVFS method is robust, efficient and compares favorably with the classical ROI methods for diffusion tensor tractography (DTT).  相似文献

Membranes of polyethylene terephthalate, irradiated by O6+ ions at various fluences were characterized by UV/VIS, FTIR, Micro-Raman spectroscopy’s, X-ray diffraction and Atomic force microscopy. UV/VIS measurements indicate shifting of the absorption edge from ultraviolet towards visible regions indicating carbonization while FTIR measurement shows the material degradation. The intensities of Raman band of ion irradiated polymer increases with the ion fluence. XRD results show decrease and shift in main peak of irradiated PET. Surface roughness is found to decrease with increasing ion fluence.  相似文献

We report synthesis, structure/micro-structure, resistivity under magnetic field [ρ(T)H], Raman spectra, thermoelectric power S(T), thermal conductivity κ(T), and magnetization of ambient pressure argon annealed polycrystalline bulk samples of MgB2, processed under identical conditions. The compound crystallizes in hexagonal structure with space group P6/mmm. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) reveals electron micrographs showing various types of defect features along with the presence of 3–4 nm thick amorphous layers forming the grain boundaries of otherwise crystalline MgB2. Raman spectra of the compound at room temperature exhibited characteristic phonon peak at 600 cm-1. Superconductivity is observed at 37.2 K by magnetic susceptibility χ(T), resistivity ρ(T), thermoelectric power S(T), and thermal conductivity κ(T) measurements. The power law fitting of ρ(T) give rise to Debye temperature (ΘD) at 1400 K which is found consistent with the theoretical fitting of S(T), exhibiting Θ D of 1410 K and carrier density of 3.81 × 1028/m3. Thermal conductivity κ(T) shows a jump at 38 K, i.e., at Tc, which was missing in some earlier reports. Critical current density (Jc) of up to 105 A/cm2 in 1–2 T (Tesla) fields at temperatures (T) of up to 10 K is seen from magnetization measurements. The irreversibility field, defined as the field related to merging of M(H) loops is found to be 78, 68 and 42 kOe at 4, 10 and 20 K respectively. The superconducting performance parameters viz. irreversibility field (Hirr) and critical current density Jc(H) of the studied MgB2 are improved profoundly with addition of nano-SiC and nano-diamond. The physical property parameters measured for polycrystalline MgB2 are compared with earlier reports and a consolidated insight of various physical properties is presented.  相似文献

Polycrystalline ceramic samples of Bi4V2?xMexO11 (Me=Nb, Zr, Y and Cu and x = 0.0 and 0.06) have been synthesized by standard solid state reaction method using high purity oxides. The formation of the compounds have been analysed by X-ray diffraction method. The dielectric constant, dielectric loss and AC conductivity as a function of frequency and temperature have been measured. The dielectric studies indicate that the material is highly lossy, and hence, its AC conductivity increases with the increase of temperature. The DC conductivity of material has been measured as a function of temperature from room temperature to 723 K and its activation energy was calculated using the relation σ = σ 0exp (?E a/kT). The modulated differential scanning calorimetry has been used to investigate the effect of substitution on the phase transition (heat capacity and heat flow) of the compounds. The contribution of the electron-electron umklapp scattering processes to the electrical resistivity of sodium, potassium, rubidium and cesium at low temperatures has been evaluated using a simplified spherical Fermi-surface model with an isotropic transition probability. Our values of the electrical resistivity so obtained compare fairly well with the recent experimental values for sodium, potassium and rubidium. Our theoretical results have also been compared with the other available data in the literature due to Lawrence and Wilkins and MacDonald and Geldart.  相似文献

The low pressure method of determination of carbon in metals and alloys was modified to include certain new techniques. An isopentane slush bath dispensed with the use of liquid oxygen and the usual McLeod gauge was replaced by a differential oil manometer, which increased the sensitivity. As little as 5 μg of carbon in CaCO3-quartz standards could be determined with a coefficient of variation of 16.0% which improved to 3.3% at the 100-μg level. The apparatus was used for the determination of carbon in metals such as uranium, zirconium and iron and in steels and cupronickel alloy.  相似文献

Langmuir monolayers of poly-N-vinyl carbazole (PNVK) were obtained by dispensing PNVK dissolved in tetrahydrofuran onto an air-water interface. Surface pressure-area isotherms of mixed monolayer of the PNVK were studied under different subphase conditions such as temperature and pH of the subphase. It was demonstrated that the monolayer of PNVK remained stable over a temperature range of 10–40°C. The area per molecule of the solid phase was found to be 31Å2. These monolayers were transferred onto indium-tin-oxide-coated glass plates and characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques.  相似文献
