An interferometer using a calcite prism and rotating analyzer is proposed for angular displacement determinations. The calcite prism senses the angular displacements and the rotating analyzer transfers the interference signals from dc-type into ac-type. Compact optical setup and using low-cost devices are thus the advantages of the interferometer. The theory of the interferometer is first demonstrated. A setup constructed to realize the interferometer and the results of using this setup are then presented. 相似文献

A dual interferometric displacement measurement system is presented where a Wollaston prism interferometer is employed in conjunction with a normal Michelson interferometer. The system operates without the use of external polarizers, apart from those associated with the Wollaston prism interferometer itself. It is shown that an optical path difference induced in the Michelson interferometer can be detected using the Wollaston prism in a normal interferometer arrangement. Further, the interference pattern produced by the Wollaston prism interferometer changes in a measurable, linear fashion as the optical path difference from the Michelson interferometer alters. A simple theoretical analysis of the system is presented and used to derive a computer model of the optical arrangement. Results from an experimental implementation of the system, using a Wollaston prism with a beam separation of 0.5 degrees and a superluminescent diode, of wavelength 825 nm, as a light source, are included and compared to the results from the computer model. 相似文献

A shearing interferometer using a low-coherent light source and calcite prism is proposed in this paper. The calcite prism is the shear plate that generates sheared wavefronts with optical-path difference induced only by the contour of the specimen. Low-coherent light source is thus available while the interferometer is adopted for contour derivative determinations. A new beam deflection technique is based on modulating the optical transmission characteristics of a modified Fabry-Perot interferometer. Electro-optically changing the interferometer length leads to fast high resolution scanning of the transmission fringe. We proposed a compact and simple polarization phase-shifting lateral shearing interferometer using two polarization beam splitter plates (PBSP). This interferometer is composed of two PBSP, a quarter-wave plate, an analyzer and a CCD camera. With the two PBSP positioned in appropriate spatial positions, optical path difference compensation is achieved, which allows for the implement of aplanatic and common-path shearing interferometer. Therefore, the system possesses significant advantages of simple structure, compact and strong anti-interference ability. This paper shows, theoretically and experimentally, how a polarization scrambler increases the response stability of a fiber Mach–Zehnder interferometer. We have studied the situation when the scrambler is placed in one of the interferometer branches and also when it is placed at the interferometer input. A speckle-shearing interferometer is developed using a sheared Michelson interferometer. The tool, like speckle interferometry, utilizes the speckle effect of coherent light. However, while speckle interferometry measures surface displacements, the speckle-shearing interferometer determines the derivatives of the surface displacements. A Fabry-Perot interferometer has been used to produce optical pulses of variable width from a short gaussian input pulse. Pulse stretching of two to five or more times the original pulse width is possible provided a longer tail on the output pulse is acceptable. This paper demonstrates that a knife-edge diffraction pattern is, indeed, due to the interference of two superimposing waves: the geometrical wave and the boundary diffraction wave. Within the framework of boundary diffraction wave theory it is shown that this diffraction pattern can easily be broadened in such a manner that a single fringe covers the whole field of view. At this point the system converges to a schlieren diffraction interferometer and could be used for the study of phase objects using diffraction-limited optics. Experimental observations show that the method bears a similarity to that of any known two-beam interferometer, e.g. Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The experimental details have been presented and the results are compared with a two-beam holographic interferometer and a point diffraction interferometer. 相似文献

Electronic speckle pattern interferometry has been used to study the deflection shapes of a piano soundboard. A design for an interferometer that can image such an unstable object is introduced, and interferograms of a piano soundboard obtained using this interferometer are presented. Deflection shapes are analyzed and compared to a finite-element model, and it is shown that the force the strings exert on the soundboard is important in determining the mode shapes and resonant frequencies. Measurements of resonance frequencies and driving-point impedance made using the interferometer are also presented. 相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate stable and user-adjustable single-photon interference in a 1 km long fiber-optic Mach-Zehnder interferometer, using an active phase control system with the feedback provided by a classical laser. We are able to continuously tune the single-photon phase difference between the interferometer arms using a phase modulator, which is synchronized with the gate window of the single-photon detectors. The phase control system employs a piezoelectric fiber stretcher to stabilize the phase drift in the interferometer. A single-photon net visibility of 0.97 is obtained, yielding future possibilities for experimental realizations of quantum repeaters in optical fibers and violation of Bell's inequalities using genuine energy-time entanglement. 相似文献

This paper describes a compulsorily phase locked differential interferometer using an orthogonally polarized light source of a modulated LD with high extinction ratio to reduce non-linearity of the interferometer caused by polarization cross-talk. The current modulated LD is used as a light source to make the interferometer compact and for the scanning phase of the interferometer. The interferometer is operated compulsorily at the maximum inclination point of the fringe intensity curve by fringe scanning and an electric system. A Wollaston prism of high extinction ratio (50 dB) is used to combine the polarizing beams and to make the polarization cross-talk very small. In one light source the polarized output beams are on the same propagation axis; in the other they have a small crossing angle (2.5 mrad ∼ 10 mrad) to completely exclude non-linearity of the interferometer causded by polarization cross-talk. Using jets of a gas mixture of nitrogen and ethylene, this interferometer was demonstrated to be useful in detecting the photothermal effect of a photothermal velocimeter under phase fluctuation in a turbulent flow. 相似文献

We propose a new scheme for interferometric gravitational wave detection using a dual input Michelson interferometer. The scheme allows us to put a phase modulator outside the interferometer without requiring arm-length unbalance. A phase-stepping lateral shearing Sagnac interferometer for wavefront measurement is described. Phase shifting is implemented using a polarisation modulator operating on the wavelength independent Pancharatnam's phase allowing accurate measurement of phase maps even with broadband light.
