Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) and microindentation methods were applied to study the modification of syndiotactic polypropylene properties (PP) due to introducing of nanoclay (4 wt%) and maleic anhydride-modified PP oligomer into the polymer matrix. The influence of electron irradiation of nanocomposites with different doses (⩽440 kGy) was also studied. It was found that the initial irradiation with 30 kGy has a considerable effect on o-Ps lifetimes and intensities. However, the studied materials do not show noticeable differences in their behavior.  相似文献

Biocompatible hydrogels based on poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) were synthesized by electron beam irradiation of the dry polymer under various conditions. Sol–gel analysis of the bulk gel (in mm range) gave a dose of gelation of 94 kGy. As seen for various other polymers, the network density rises with the increase in dose. At around 350 kGy, PVP began to decompose. Based on these observations, films in μm range on a silicon wafer were synthesized by electron beam irradiation. Due to irradiation, the films adhered irreversibly on the wafer. Their swelling behavior was analyzed by ellipsometry.  相似文献

Chitosan films were prepared by dissolving 1% (w/v) chitosan powder in 2% (w/v) aqueous acetic acid solution. Chitosan films were prepared by solution casting. The values of puncture strength (PS), viscoelasticity coefficient and water vapor permeability (WVP) of the films were found to be 565 N/mm, 35%, and 3.30 g mm/m2 day kPa, respectively. Chitosan solution was exposed to gamma irradiation (0.1–5 kGy) and it was revealed that PS values were reduced significantly (p≤0.05) after 1 kGy dose and it was not possible to form films after 5 kGy. Monomer, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) solution (0.1–1%, w/v) was incorporated into the chitosan solution and the formulation was exposed to gamma irradiation (0.3 kGy). A 0.1% (w/v) HEMA concentration at 0.3 kGy dose was found optimal-based on PS values for chitosan grafting. Then radiation dose (0.1–5 kGy) was optimized for HEMA grafting. The highest PS values (672 N/mm) were found at 0.7 kGy. The WVP of the grafted films improved significantly (p≤0.05) with the rise of radiation dose.  相似文献

N-Succinyl chitosan (N-SC) products with various degrees of substitution were synthesized by a direct reaction between chitosan and succinic anhydride. The susceptibility of the as-synthesized polymers to degradation upon their exposure to γ-ray radiation was investigated. The results were compared with the as-received chitosan. The size exclusion chromatographic results showed that chitosan and N-SC products in their dilute aqueous solution state were more subservient to degradation by γ-ray radiation than in their solid film state, despite the much less exposure to the radiation (i.e., 5-30 kGy for the solutions versus 20-100 kGy for the films). Increasing the radiation dose resulted in the rather monotonous decrease in the molecular weights of the polymers. Structural analyses of the irradiated polymers by Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and UV-visible spectrophotometry indicated the increase in the amount of carbonyl groups with the radiation dose. The formation of the carbonyl groups suggested that the radiolysis of chitosan and N-SC products occurred at the glycosidic linkages. In addition, FT-IR, elemental analysis and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR) results suggested that γ-ray radiation affected both the N-acetyl and N-substituted groups on the polymer chains.  相似文献

Electron beam (EB) irradiation of poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC), an amorphous, biodegradable polymer used in the field of biomaterials, results in predominant cross-linking and finally in the formation of gel fraction, thus enabling modification of physicochemical properties of this material without significant changes in its chemical structure. PTMC films (Mw: 167-553 kg mol−1) were irradiated with different doses using an electron accelerator. Irradiation with a standard sterilization dose of 25 kGy caused neither significant changes in the chemical composition of the polymer nor significant deterioration of its mechanical properties. Changes in viscosity-, number-, weight-, and z-average molecular weights of PTMC for doses lower than the gelation dose (Dg) as well as gel-sol analysis and swelling tests for doses above Dg indicate domination of cross-linking over degradation. EB irradiation can be considered as an effective tool for increasing the average molecular weight of PTMC and sterilization of PTMC-based biomaterials.  相似文献

PLA and its nanocomposite films based on modified montmorillonite (CLO30B) or fluorohectorite (SOM MEE) and unmodified sepiolite (SEPS9) were processed at a clay loading of 5 wt% and hydrolytically degraded at 37 and 58 °C in a pH 7.0 phosphate-buffered solution. An effective hydrolytic degradation for neat PLA and nanocomposites was obtained at both temperatures of degradation, with higher extent at 58 °C due to more extensive micro-structural changes and molecular rearrangements, allowing a higher water absorption into the polymer matrix. The addition of CLO30B and SEPS9 delayed the degradation of PLA at 37 °C due to their inducing PLA crystallization effect and/or to their high water uptake reducing the amount of water available for polymer matrix hydrolysis. The presence of SOM MEE also induced polymer crystallization, but it was also found to catalyze hydrolysis of PLA. Concerning hydrolysis at 58 °C, the presence of any nanoparticle did not significantly affect the degradation trend of PLA, achieving similar molecular weight decreases for all the studied materials. This was related to the easy access of water molecules to the bulk material at this temperature, minimizing the effect of polymer crystallinity clay nature and aspect ratio on the polymer degradation.  相似文献

In Japan, hemodialyzers are usually sterilized by γ irradiation. However, the polymer materials used in the dialysis membrane, such as polysulfone (PSf) and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP), undergo crosslinking or degradation on exposure to γ radiation. In the present study, we prepared PSf/PVP films (PVP content, 0–50 wt%) and used atomic force microscopy (AFM) to perform nanoscale evaluations of the effect of γ irradiation (25 and 50 kGy) on the surface properties of wet PSf/PVP surfaces. Force‐curve measurements were used to evaluate the hardness of and fibrinogen adsorbability on the wet PSf/PVP surface; fibrinogen adsorbability on the wet PSf/PVP surface was evaluated using AFM probes with fibrinogen immobilized on the tips of the probes. At PVP levels greater than 5 wt%, the wet PSf/PVP film surface was completely covered with hydrated and swollen PVP particles. The surface hardness of the wet PSf/PVP films exposed to 25‐kGy γ irradiation greatly decreased with increasing PVP content, whereas the surface hardness of the wet PSf/PVP films exposed to 50‐kGy γ irradiation did not decrease significantly. At higher PVP levels, the reduction in the fibrinogen adsorbability on a wet PSf/PVP film exposed to 25‐kGy γ irradiation was more significant than that on a wet PSf/PVP film exposed to 50‐kGy γ irradiation. PVP particles on the wet PSf/PVP film surface exposed to 50‐kGy γ irradiation did not show significant hydration and swelling because the polymer materials PVP–PSf and PVP‐PVP in these membranes has undergone excessive crosslinking due to γ irradiation. Gamma-ray irradiation is a very useful tool to improve the physicochemical properties of various biodegradable polymers without the use of a heating and crosslinking agent. The purpose of this study was to investigate the degradation behavior of poly (l-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) depending on the applied gamma-ray irradiation doses. PLGA films prepared through a solvent casting method were irradiated with gamma radiation at various irradiation doses. The irradiation was performed using 60Co gamma-ray doses of 25–500 kGy at a dose rate of 10 kGy/h.The degradation of irradiated films was observed through the main chain scission. Exposure to gamma radiation dropped the average molecular weight (Mn and Mw), and weakened the mechanical strength. Thermograms of irradiated film show various changes of thermal properties in accordance with gamma-ray irradiation doses. Gamma-ray irradiation changes the morphology of the surface, and improves the wettability. In conclusion, gamma-ray irradiation will be a useful tool to control the rate of hydrolytic degradation of these PLGA films.  相似文献

Irradiation is an excellent method for improving the safety and functional properties of egg. However, the internal quality of egg can be deteriorated due to a rapid decrease in Haugh units. In this study, the optimal conditions for maintaining the quality and maximizing the safety and functional properties of egg were determined when combination of irradiation and chitosan coating was treated using response surface methodology (RSM). Independent degradation parameters—irradiation dose (0–2 kGy) and concentration of chitosan coating (0–2%) were assigned (?2,–1, 0, 1, 2), and 10 intervals were set on the basis of central composite design for the degradation experiment. The dependant variables within a confidence level less than 5% were Haugh units, foaming ability, foam stability, and number of Salmonella typhimurium. The predicted maximum values of Haugh units and foaming ability were 82.7 (irradiation dose 0.0006 kGy and concentration of chitosan solution 1.03%) and 62.2 mm (1.99 kGy and 0.86%), respectively. S. typhimurium inoculated on the egg surface was not detected after 1.86 kGy and 0.48%. Based on superimposing four-dimensional RSM with respect to freshness (Haugh units), functional property (foaming capacity and foam stability), and reduction of S. typhimurium, the predicted optimum ranges for irradiation dose and chitosan solution concentration were 0.35–0.65 kGy and 0.25–0.85%, respectively. The predicted optimum values were obtained from 0.45 kGy and 0.525%. This methodology can be used to predict egg quality and safety when different combination treatments were applied.  相似文献

Films of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composites with triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) dye were prepared and exposed to various radiation doses delivered by accelerated electrons. The results showed that at a low dose of 50 kGy, the colour difference (ΔE*) of PVA/TTC films was increased by ∼10 times of the initial value. However, the change in colour differences did not go systematically with increasing the TTC content, in which the composite with 1.5 wt% displayed higher value than that with 3.5 wt%. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that the presence of the TTC dye caused a depression in the melting point (Tm) and heat of fusion (ΔHf) of the PVA bulk polymer. However, the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the presence of the TTC dye improved the thermal stability of PVA. Also, the tensile strength at break of PVA/TTC composites was improved after electron beam irradiation.  相似文献

Characteristics of the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) films containing 0.11 wt% of malachite green oxalate or 6GX-setoglausine and about 100 μm in thickness were studied for use as routine dosimeters in radiation processing. These films show basically color bleaching under irradiation with 60Co γ-rays in a dose range of 5–50 kGy. The sensitivity of the dosimeters and the linearity of dose-response curves are improved by adding 2.5% of chloral hydrate [CCl3CH(OH)2] and 0.15% hydroquinone [HOC6H4OH]. These additions extend the minimum dose limit to 1 kGy covering dosimetry requirements of the quality assurance in radiation processing of food and healthcare products. The dose responses of both dyed PVC films at irradiation temperatures from 20°C to 35°C are constant relative to those at 25°C, and the temperature coefficients for irradiation temperatures from 35°C to 55°C were estimated to be (0.43±0.01)%/°C. The dosimeter characteristics are stable within 1% at 25°C before and 60 days after the end of irradiation.  相似文献

We report herein the first successful grafting of perfluorinated vinyl ether monomer into base polymer films by simultaneous radiation method. 2-Bromotetrafluoroethyl trifluorovinyl ether (BrTFF) could be grafted into poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) (ETFE) films by γ-rays irradiation at room temperature. The grafting yield increased linearly with an increase in the dose up to 1400 kGy. The required dose for a satisfactory grafting yield, such as 20%, was as high as ca. 400 kGy probably due to low polymerization reactivity of fluorinated monomers. However, the solvent and catalyst had no positive influence for improving the grafting yield. FTIR spectra and SEM-EDS testified that BrTFF was successfully grafted into ETFE films homogeneously in the perpendicular direction. The thermal analysis of the grafted films further indicated no phase separation between poly(BrTFF) grafts and ETFE films, probably owing to high compatibility of the fluorinated grafts and base polymers.  相似文献

Chitosan (1 wt%, in 2% aqueous acetic acid solution) and starch (1 wt%, in deionised water) were dissolved and mixed in different proportions (20–80 wt% chitosan) then films were prepared by casting. Tensile strength and elongation at break of the 50% chitosan containing starch-based films were found to be 47 MPa and 16%, respectively. It was revealed that with the increase of chitosan in starch, the values of TS improved significantly. Monomer, 2-butane diol-diacrylate (BDDA) was added into the film forming solutions (50% starch-based), then casted films. The BDDA containing films were irradiated under gamma radiation (5–25 kGy) and it was found that strength of the films improved significantly. On the other hand, synthetic petroleum-based polymeric films (polycaprolactone, polyethylene and polypropylene) were prepared by compression moulding. Mechanical and barrier properties of the films were evaluated. The gamma irradiated (25 kGy) films showed higher strength and better barrier properties.  相似文献

Radiation-induced grafting of styrene into poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) films with 0.125 mm thickness at doses of 1 and 2.5 kGy in the presence of a styrene/N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) solution (1:1, v/v) and at doses of 20, 40 and 80 kGy in presence of a styrene/toluene solution (1:1, v/v) at dose rate of 5 kGy h?1 was carried out by the simultaneous method under nitrogen atmosphere and room temperature, using gamma rays from a Co-60. The films were characterized before and after modification by calculated grafting yield (GY %), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG/DTG). GY results shows that grafting increases with dose, and the grafting of styrene was confirm by FT-IR due to the new characteristic peaks and by the TG and DSC attributed to changes in thermal behavior of the grafted material. Results showed that the system allows the controlled grafting of styrene into PVDF using gamma rays at doses as low as 1 kGy in DMF.  相似文献

Interactions of the aggregate state of poly(ethylene oxide), PEO, and γ-irradiation conditions (total dose, atmosphere) on its thermal and crystalline properties were investigated by DSC and WAXD taking into account sample molecular mass and form. In PEO irradiated in the solid state and in the presence of oxygen, chain scission dominated over concurrent crosslinking up to 200 kGy, particularly in PEO powders, due to a large surface being in contact with air. In solid samples the degree of crystallinity and crystallite size increased with the dose up to 50 kGy, probably not just due to partial crystallization upon degradation of amorphous phase, but to recrystallization of broken tie molecules. The least changes in crystallinity and phase transformation temperatures occurred in solid films. A substantial decrease in crystallinity and transformation temperatures without the initial crystallinity increase was achieved in samples that were amorphous on irradiation, at temperatures above the PEO melting temperature and in aqueous solutions. Radiation crosslinking of the PEO aqueous solution in an inert atmosphere is the most suitable way to obtain a lower degree of crystallinity and phase transformation temperatures while preserving mechanical properties.  相似文献

Alginate solution (3%, w/v) was prepared using deionized water from its powder. Then the solution was exposed to gamma radiation (0.1?25 kGy). The alginate films were prepared by solution casting. It was found that gamma radiation has strong effect on alginate solution. At low doses, mechanical strength of the alginate films improved but after 5 kGy dose, the strength started to decrease. The mechanism of alginate radiolysis in aqueous solution is discussed. Film formation was not possible from alginate solution at doses >5 kGy. The mechanical properties such as puncture strength (PS), puncture deformation (PD), viscoelasticity (Y) coefficient of the un-irradiated films were investigated. The values of PS, PD and Y coefficient of the films were 333 N/mm, 3.20 mm and 27%, respectively. Alginate beads were prepared from 3% alginate solution (w/v) by ionotropic gelation method in 5% CaCl2 solution. The rate of gel swelling improved in irradiated alginate-based beads at low doses (up to 0.5 kGy).  相似文献

Films of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) containing α-terthiophene (3T) undergo a radiochromic effect when exposed to electrons and gamma rays. The films turn either red–green or red, due to the formation of oligomeric radical cations. In both matrixes, absorbance at 465 nm grows linearly with dose when α-terthiophene concentration reaches 12%. Explored range goes up to ∼2×106 Gy, with dose rates spanning over three orders of magnitude. Concerning their application as dosimeters, a higher sensitivity characterises the 3T–PMMA moiety, suggesting its suitability from the kGy range up to 1 MGy. Above this value films become fragile. 3T–PS films are less sensitive, but more radiation resistant. Therefore they better suit the medium-to-high dose dosimetry range. Dose rate influences the response sensitivity in a complex way, however above 80 and up to 3.6×104 Gy/min an approximate linearity exists between log(dose rate) and sensitivity, as in the analogous cellulose triacetate system.  相似文献

A series of fluoropolymer films was synthesized by reacting 1,3-bis(1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-pentafluorophenylmethoxy-2-propyl)benzene (12F-FBE) with a series of bisphenol monomers via a polycondensation reaction. The biphenols used included a diphenol-substituted spirodilactam, biphenol, bisphenol A, bisphenol AF, bisphenol F and bisphenol O. Polymers films from these new fluoropolyaryl ethers were irradiated by a Gamma Beam 657-PT at a dose rate of 9 kGy/h; the absorbed dose was varied between 30 and 150 kGy. The effect on the chemical structure upon radiation was studied by DSC, TGA, FTIR-ATR, NMR, and GPC, both before and after irradiation. The data obtained allowed the determination of the degradation radiochemical yield (G s), between 0.24 and 7.43 crosslinking radiochemical yield (G x), from 0.03 to 1.47 and the ratio of G s/G x was between 2.89 and 8.28. There was no apparent physical change, from 30 to 150 kGy; the films continue to be flexible and transparent after irradiation.  相似文献

This work focuses on the effect of gamma-ray radiation conditions on the stimuli-responsiveness and drug-eluting performance of polypropylene (PP) substrates grafted with interpenetrating networks of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) and acrylic acid (AAc). PNIPAAm was cross-linked applying 10–100 kGy doses in the presence and absence of the chemical cross-linker N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide (MBAAm). Then, the net-PP-g-PNIPAAm was interpenetrated with PAAc synthesized under a 2.5 kGy dose to obtain net-PP-g-PNIPAAm-inter-net-PAAc films. The amount of grafted PNIPAAm (80%, 125% and 145% levels) and the cross-linking radiation dose (10, 40 and 70 kGy levels) strongly determine the interpenetration of PAAc, the swelling degree, the amount of vancomycin loaded and its release rate. The chemical cross-linker only caused a minor decrease in the degree of swelling. The higher the PNIPAAm grafted on PP and the lower the cross-linking radiation dose, the more the PAAc in the IPN and, consequently, the higher the vancomycin loaded through specific interactions and the more sustained the release (>8 h). The films possessing these features exhibited vancomycin release rate per surface unit suitable to prevent bacterial growth. Thus, adequate tuning of the radiation doses during grafting and cross-linking of the PNIPAAm networks may enable to achieve surface-modified materials for medical devices with an antibiofilm performance.  相似文献

The influence of a wide dose range of electron beam (EB) irradiation is analyzed on films obtained from metallocene isotactic polypropylene (iPP) under two different thermal processing conditions. A greater irradiation resistance is observed in those films with content in γ crystallites higher than in α monoclinic entities in terms of melting temperature variation with irradiation. This change is on the order of 0.5 °C per 100 kGy in slowly crystallized films while a value of 1.5 °C per 100 kGy is found in quenched specimens. On the other hand, dual studies on films and pellets have proved that branching takes place in this metallocene iPP. The scission processes that occur during irradiation cannot account by themselves for the observed changes in molecular weight distribution as demonstrated by simulation. The observed changes in the rheological behaviour of the irradiated iPP corroborate that increasing degrees of branching are generated by the irradiation process.  相似文献
