Time-resolved local induction measurements near the vortex lattice order-disorder transition in optimally doped Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) crystals show that the high-field, disordered phase can be quenched to fields as low as half the transition field. Over an important range of fields, the electrodynamical behavior of the vortex system is governed by the coexistence of ordered and disordered vortex phases in the sample. We interpret the results as supercooling of the high-field phase and the possible first-order nature of the order-disorder transition at the "second magnetization peak."  相似文献

Gadolinium gallium garnet, Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG) has an extraordinary low-temperature phase diagram. Although the Curie–Weiss temperature of GGG is −2 K, GGG shows no long-range order down to T0.4 K. At low temperatures GGG has a spin glass phase at low fields (0.1 T), a field-induced long-range ordered antiferromagnetic state at fields of between 0.7 and 1.3 T, and, at intermediate fields, an apparent spin-liquid state without long-range order. We have characterized the intermediate field (IF) state through heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and magnetocaloric measurements. Our results show a sharp high-field phase boundary of the thermal irreversibility of the spin glass phase of GGG implying that the intermediate field phase is distinct from the spin glass. The lower field boundary of the AFM phase is shown to have distinct minimum at T0.2 K, in analogy to the minimum in the melting curve of 4He. The existence of such a minimum is confirmed by measurements of the latent heat of the transition below that temperature.  相似文献

We present NMR data in the normal and superconducting states of CeCoIn5 for fields close to H(c2)(0)=11.8 T in the ab plane. Recent experiments identified a first-order transition from the normal to superconducting state for H>10.5 T, and a new thermodynamic phase below 290 mK within the superconducting state. We find that the Knight shifts of the In(1), In(2), and the Co are discontinuous across the first-order transition and the magnetic linewidths increase dramatically. The broadening differs for the three sites, unlike the expectation for an Abrikosov vortex lattice, and suggests the presence of static spin moments in the vortex cores. In the low-temperature and high-field phase, the broad NMR lineshapes suggest ordered local moments, rather than a long-wavelength quasiparticle spin density modulation expected for an FFLO phase.  相似文献

The phase diagram of the quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnet BaNi(2)V(2)O(8) is studied by specific heat, thermal expansion, magnetostriction, and magnetization for magnetic fields applied perpendicular to c. At micro(o)H* approximately 1.5 T, a crossover to a high-field state, where T(N)(H) increases linearly, arises from a competition of intrinsic and field-induced in-plane anisotropies. The pressure dependences of T(N) and H* are interpreted using the picture of a pressure-induced in-plane anisotropy. Even at zero field and ambient pressure, in-plane anisotropy cannot be neglected, which implies deviations from pure Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless behavior.  相似文献

A fine structure of high-field magnetization curves of CsCoCl3 and related compounds is discussed. It is shown that a precursor of a high-field phase transition originates from nucleation of an intermediate high-field ferrimagnetic (IFM) phase. Since the IFM state is degenerate its growth starting from few nucleation centers gives rise to domain walls formation. Their creep also makes a contribution to the magnetization dynamics similar to slow relaxation in Ca3Co2O6. An experimental verification of the model is proposed.  相似文献

We report high magnetic field linear magnetostriction experiments on CeCoIn5 single crystals. Two features are remarkable: (i) a sharp discontinuity in all the crystallographic axes associated with the upper superconducting critical field B(c2) that becomes less pronounced as the temperature increases and (ii) a distinctive second orderlike feature observed only along the c axis in the high field (10 T < or approximately B< or = B(c2)) low temperature (T < or approximately 0.35 K) region. This second order transition is observed only when the magnetic field lies within 20 degrees of the ab planes and there is no signature of it above B(c2), which raises questions regarding its interpretation as a field induced magnetically ordered phase. Good agreement with previous results suggests that this anomaly is related to the transition to a possible Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov superconducting state.  相似文献

55Mn and 139La NMR measurements on a high quality single crystal of ferromagnetic (FM) La0.80Ca0.20MnO3 demonstrate the formation of localized Mn(3+,4+) states below 70 K, accompanied by a strong cooling-rate dependent increase of certain FM neutron Bragg peaks. (55,139)(1/T(1)) spin-lattice and (139)(1/T(2)) spin-spin relaxation rates are strongly enhanced on approaching this temperature from below, signaling a genuine phase transition at T(tr) approximately 70 K. The disappearance of the FM metallic signal by applying a weak external magnetic field, the different NMR radio-frequency enhancement of the FM metallic and insulating states, and the observed finite size scaling of T(tr) with Ca (hole) doping, as observed in powder La(1-x)CaxMnO3 samples, are suggestive of freezing into an inhomogeneous FM insulating and orbitally ordered state embodying "metallic" hole-rich walls.  相似文献

Muon spin rotation ( &mgr;SR) has been used to measure the magnetic field distribution in the vortex state of the type-II superconductor NbSe2 ( T(c) = 7.0 K) below T = 2 K. The distribution is consistent with a highly ordered hexagonal vortex lattice with a well resolved high-field cutoff associated with the finite size of the vortex cores. The temperature dependence of the core radius is much weaker than the temperature dependence predicted from the Bogoliubov-de Gennes theory. Furthermore, the vortex radius measured by &mgr;SR near the low temperature quantum limit is about an order of magnitude larger than predicted.  相似文献

We report inelastic neutron scattering studies of magnetic excitations in antiferromagnetically ordered SrFe2As2 (T_{N}=200-220 K), the parent compound of the FeAs-based superconductors. At low temperatures (T=7 K), the magnetic spectrum S(Q,Planck's omega) consists of a Bragg peak at the elastic position (Planck's omega=0 meV), a spin gap (Delta< or =6.5 meV), and sharp spin-wave excitations at higher energies. Based on the observed dispersion relation, we estimate the effective magnetic exchange coupling using a Heisenberg model. On warming across T_{N}, the low-temperature spin gap rapidly closes, with weak critical scattering and spin-spin correlations in the paramagnetic state. The antiferromagnetic order in SrFe2As2 is therefore consistent with a first order phase transition, similar to the structural lattice distortion.  相似文献

We report low-temperature calorimetric, magnetic, and resistivity measurements on the antiferromagnetic (AF) heavy-fermion metal YbRh(2)Si(2) ( T(N)=70 mK) as a function of magnetic field B. While for fields exceeding the critical value B(c0) at which T(N)-->0 the low-temperature resistivity shows an AT2 dependence, a 1/(B-B(c0)) divergence of A(B) upon reducing B to B(c0) suggests singular scattering at the whole Fermi surface and a divergence of the heavy quasiparticle mass. The observations are interpreted in terms of a new type of quantum critical point separating a weakly AF ordered from a weakly polarized heavy Landau-Fermi liquid state.  相似文献

The results of the magnetic susceptibility, isothermal magnetization, heat capacity, electrical resistivity and magnetoresistance measurements on polycrystalline Eu(3)Ni(4)Ga(4) are presented. Eu(3)Ni(4)Ga(4) forms in Na(3)Pt(4)Ge(4)-type cubic crystal structure (space group [Formula: see text]). The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of Eu(3)Ni(4)Ga(4) confirms the divalent state (Eu(2+)) of Eu ions with an effective magnetic moment μ(eff)?=?7.98?μ(B). At low fields, e.g.?at 0.01?T, a magnetic phase transition to an antiferromagnetically ordered state occurs at T(N)?=?10.9?K, which is further confirmed by the temperature dependence of the heat capacity and electrical resistivity. The field dependence of isothermal magnetization at 2?K reveals the presence of two field induced metamagnetic transitions at H(c1) and H(c2)?=?0.55 and 1.2?T, respectively and a polarized phase above H(PO)?=?1.7?T. The reduced jump in the heat capacity at the transition temperature, ΔC|(T(N))?=?13.48?J/mol-Eu?K would indicate an amplitude modulated (AM) antiferromagnetic structure. An interesting feature is that a large negative magnetoresistance, MR?=?[ρ(H)?-?ρ(0)]/ρ(0), is observed in the vicinity of magnetic transition even up to 2T(N). Similar large magnetoresistance has been observed in the paramagnetic state in some Gd and Eu based alloys and has been attributed to the magneto-polaronic effect.  相似文献

Inelastic neutron scattering experiments on the Haldane-gap quantum antiferromagnet Ni(C5D14N2)2-N3(PF6) are performed in magnetic fields below and above the critical field H(c) at which the gap closes. Quasielastic neutron scattering is found for H>H(c), indicating topological excitations in the high-field phase.  相似文献

We report on muon spin rotation studies of the noncentrosymmetric heavy fermion antiferromagnet CeRhSi3. A drastic and monotonic suppression of the internal fields, at the lowest measured temperature, was observed upon an increase of external pressure. Our data suggest that the ordered moments are gradually quenched with increasing pressure, in a manner different from the pressure dependence of the Néel temperature. At 23.6 kbar, the ordered magnetic moments are fully suppressed via a second-order phase transition, and T(N) is zero. Thus, we directly observed the quantum critical point at 23.6 kbar hidden inside the superconducting phase of CeRhSi3.  相似文献

Enhancement of sensitivity in solid state (15)N NMR by indirect detection through (1)H NMR signals under high-speed magic angle spinning and high-field conditions is demonstrated experimentally on two (15)N-labeled peptides, polycrystalline AlaGlyGly and the helix-forming, 17-residue peptide MB(i + 4)EK in lyophilized form. Sensitivity enhancement factors ranging from 2.0 to 3.2 are observed experimentally, depending on the (15)N and (1)H linewidths and polarization transfer efficiencies. The (1)H-detected two-dimensional (1)H/(15)N correlation spectrum of AlaGlyGly illustrates the possibility of increased spectral resolution and resonance assignments in indirectly detected experiments, in addition to the sensitivity enhancement.  相似文献

Physical property measurements on samples of triangular-lattice NaVO2 reveal two successive orbital ordering transitions. At 300 K, the structure is rhombohedral. At 98 K, the system undergoes a second-order transition to a monoclinic phase in which the in-plane V-V distances separate into four short and two long bonds, corresponding to orbital ordering of one electron per V3+. Below 93 K, there is a first-order transition to a second monoclinic phase with four long and two short V-V bonds, consistent with orbital ordering of two electrons per V3+. Long range magnetic ordering of 0.98(2)mu_(B) per V3+ (3d(2)) sets in at the 93 K structural transition. The orbital ordering relieves the geometric frustration and leads to a magnetically ordered ground state.  相似文献

The high-field (i.e., 94 GHz) membrane EPR spectra of lipids spin labeled in their fatty acid chains have been simulated by using two limiting motional models. The aim was to identify the dynamic origin of the residual (g(xx) - g(yy)) anisotropy observed in the nonaxial EPR spectra of cholesterol-containing membranes. It is concluded that the residual spectral anisotropy arises from in-plane ordering of the lipid chains by cholesterol. The partial averaging of the (g(xx) - g(yy)) anisotropy was best described by restricted axial rotation with a frequency in the region of tau(-1)(R||) approximately 0.5-1 x 10(9) s(-1). Simulations for slower axial rotation of unrestricted amplitude produced less satisfactory fits. In phospholipid membranes not containing cholesterol, the nonaxial anisotropy is completely averaged in the fluid phase and substantially reduced even in the gel phase. The unrestricted axial rotation in the gel phase is of comparable frequency to that of the limited axial rotation in the liquid-ordered phase of membranes containing cholesterol. These results on in-plane ordering by cholesterol in the liquid-ordered phase could be significant for current proposals regarding domain formation in cellular membranes.

Properties of two pairs of mirror nuclei 13N-13C and15N-15O are investigated by using the nonlinear relativistic mean field theory. It is found that all the calculated binding energies with two different parameter sets are very close to the experimental ones for both the ground states and the excited states. The calculations show that the first excited state (2s1/2) and the third excited state (1d5/2) in 13N are both unbound resonances with proton halo structure, whereas the third excited state (1d5/2) in 13C is weakly bound with a neutron skin. It is also predicted that there has a proton halo in the second excited state (2s1/2) of 15N as well as a neutron skin in the first excited state (2s1/2) of 15O.  相似文献

Ultrasonic velocity measurements on the magnetoelectric multiferroic compound CuFeO(2) reveal that the antiferromagnetic transition observed at T(N1) = 14 K might be induced by an R3m --> pseudoproper ferroelastic transition. In that case, the group theory states that the order parameter associated with the structural transition must belong to a two-dimensional irreducible representation E(g) (x(2) - y(2), xy). Since this type of transition can be driven by a Raman E(g) mode, we performed Raman scattering measurements on CuFeO(2) between 5 and 290 K. Considering that the isostructural multiferroic compound CuCrO(2) might show similar structural deformations at the antiferromagnetic transition T(N1) = 24.3 K, Raman measurements have also been performed for comparison. At ambient temperature, the Raman modes in CuFeO(2) are observed at ω(E(g)) = 352 cm(-1) and ω(A(1g)) = 692 cm(-1), while these modes are detected at ω(E(g)) = 457 cm(-1) and ω(A(1g)) = 709 cm(-1) in CuCrO(2). The analysis of the temperature dependence of the modes in both compounds shows that the frequencies of all modes increase with decreasing temperature. This typical behavior is attributed to anharmonic phonon-phonon interactions. These results clearly indicate that none of the Raman active modes observed in CuFeO(2) and CuCrO(2) drive the pseudoproper ferroelastic transitions observed at the Néel temperature T(N1). Finally, a broad band at about 550 cm(-1) observed in the magnetoelectric phase of CuCrO(2) below T(N2) could be associated with magnons.  相似文献

The phase diagram is an interesting field of research, particularly in lyotropic liquid crystals (LLC). In this way, one of the most important phase diagrams of this LLC system was reported by Yu and Saupe. Two uniaxial (calamitic--N(C) and discotic--N(D)) and one biaxial nematic (N(B)) phases were determined by these authors. Furthermore, in this phase diagram the classical isotropic phase (I was observed at high temperature as well as a reentrant isotropic phase (I(RE)) which takes place at lower temperature. Later, this phase diagram was also studied by several authors and in all cases the I(RE)-N(C)-I phase transitions were not observed. In this work, we present a study of this phase diagram through digital image processing and refractometry optical techniques. The occurrence of these phase transitions is investigated and characterized. In addition, the order parameter is obtained based on the Vuks hypothesis from a particular point, in the range of the N(C) phase, where the absolute value of the optical birefringence (Deltan is maximum.  相似文献
