Generic representations for the unitary group in three variables

We show that for the quasi-split unitary group in three variables every tempered packet of cuspidal automorphic representations contains a globally generic representation. A mortar mimetic finite difference method on non-matching grids

We consider mimetic finite difference approximations to second order elliptic problems on non-matching multiblock grids. Mortar finite elements are employed on the non-matching interfaces to impose weak flux continuity. Optimal convergence and, in certain cases, superconvergence is established for both the scalar variable and its flux. The theory is confirmed by computational results. Filtrations, mixed complexes, and cyclic homology in mixed characteristic

We describe an approach to computing cyclic homology suited to ground rings of characteristicp or mixed characteristic. On the regularity of optimal controls

We outline some recent results on the regularity of optimal controls. We formulate the general regularity problem for open-loop and closed-loop controls, and explain how results for the open-loop case have implications for the closed-loop case as well. The domestic levels ofK c are iterable

We show that the models produced by theK ^c construction before (if ever) it reaches a non-domestic premouse are all iterable. As a corollary we get thatPFA plus the existence of a measurable cardinal implies the existence of a non-domestic premouse. Partially supported by the Italian MURST. Normal forms for periodic orbits of real vector fields

We consider normal forms of real vector fields near periodic orbits and provide sufficient conditions for their smooth linearization. In addition, the main results also assert the existence of vertical local foliations, whose leaves are all transversal to the periodic orbit.

Rigidity of locally homogeneous metrics of negative curvature on the leaves of a foliation

We consider the relationship between diffeomorphism and leafwise isometry for foliations whose leaves are locally homogeneous Riemannian manifolds of negative curvature. Partially supported by NSF Grant DMS-8301882.     

Galois groups over complete valued fields

We propose an elementary algebraic approach to the patching of Galois groups. We prove that every finite group is regularly realizable over the field of rational functions in one variable over a complete discrete valued field. Partially supported by NSF grant DMS 9306479.     

Refinements of the Gibbs conditioning principle

Summary Refinements of Sanov's large deviations theorem lead via Csiszár's information theoretic identity to refinements of the Gibbs conditioning principle which are valid for blocks whose length increase with the length of the conditioning sequence. Holomorphy of Rankin tripleL-functions; special values and root numbers for symmetric cubeL-functions

In this paper we prove the holomorphy of Rankin tripleL-functions for three cusp forms on GL(2) on the entire complex plane, if at least one of them is non-monomial. We conclude the paper by proving the equality of our root numbers for the third and the fourth symmetric powerL-functions with those of Artin through the local Langlands correspondence. Let ℒ be the space of line transversals to a finite family of pairwise disjoint compact convex sets in ℝ³. We prove that each connected component of ℒ can itself be represented as the space of transversals to some finite family of pairwise disjoint compact convex sets. The research of J. E.
