The inhibition of 1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-benzimidazole (MMB) on corrosion of XC48 steel in solutions 1.0 M HCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 were studied by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques (EIS). Potentiodynmic polarization curves revealed that MMB acts as a mixed-type inhibitor in both acidic media. The impedance results indicated that the corrosion process occurs under activation control. Furthermore, MMB shows a higher inhibition efficiency in HCl (97%) than in H2SO4 (92%) at 10?4 M MMB. The values of ΔG°ads, ΔHa, Ea and ΔSa in temperature range 293–323 K indicated that MMB strongly retarded the corrosion of XC48 steel in both solutions by a chemisorptions process. The adsorption of Benzimidazole (MMB) on carbon steel surface followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis confirmed that there is an adsorbed film on the surface of XC48 steel. The results of Monte Carlo simulations studies confirmed the inhibition action of MMB.

The inhibition of mild steel corrosion in aerated acid mixture of 0.5 N H2SO4 and 0.5 N HCl solution was investigated using potentiodynamic polarization studies, linear polarization studies, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, adsorption, and surface morphological studies. The effect of inhibitor concentration on corrosion rate, degree of surface coverage, adsorption kinetics, and surface morphology is investigated. The inhibition efficiency increased markedly with increase in additive concentration. The presence of PEG and PVP decreases the double-layer capacitance and increases the charge-transfer resistance. The inhibitor molecules first adsorb on the metal surface following a Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Both PEG and PVP offer good inhibition properties for mild steel and act as mixed-type inhibitors. Surface analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) shows that PVP offers better protection than PEG.  相似文献

The inhibition behavior of 6-methyl-4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-one (MDP) on corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 was investigated using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The results indicated that the corrosion inhibition efficiency depends on concentration, immersion time, solution temperature, and the nature of the acidic solutions. It is also noted that MDP is at its the most efficient in 1 M HCl and least in 0.5 M H2SO4. The effect is more pronounced with MDP concentration. It is found that the inhibition efficiency attains 98 % at 5 × 10?3 M in 1 M HCl and 75 % at 5 × 10?2 in 0.5 M H2SO4. Polarization measurements showed that the MDP acts as a mixed inhibitor. EIS diagrams showed that the adsorption of MDP increases the transfer resistance and decreases the capacitance of the interface metal/solution. From the temperature studies, the activation energies in the presence of MDP were found to be superior to those in uninhibited medium. Finally, a mechanism for the adsorption of MDP was proposed and discussed.  相似文献

The cationic gemini surfactant 1,2-bis(N-tetradecyl-N,N-dimethylammonium)ethane dibromide (14-2-14) was synthesized using a previously described method. The surfactant was characterized using 1H NMR. The corrosion inhibition effect of 14-2-14 on mild steel in 1 M HCl at temperatures 30–60°C was studied using weight loss measurements, potentiodynamic polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Morphology of the corroded mild steel specimens was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results of the studies show that gemini surfactant is an efficient inhibitor for mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl; the maximum inhibition efficiency (IE) of 98.06% is observed at surfactant concentration of 100 ppm at 60°C. The %IE increases with the increasing inhibitor concentration and temperature. The adsorption of inhibitor on the mild steel surface obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. SEM studies confirmed smoother surface for inhibited mild steel specimen.  相似文献

The inhibition effect of hexadecyl pyridinium bromide (HDPB) as a cationic surfactant on the corrosion behavior of some Egyptian austenitic stainless steel SS 304L, SS 316H and SS 304H in 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions was investigated by using potentiodynamic polarization technique and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results indicate that HDPB is a good inhibitor for the samples under investigation in 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions. In addition, the inhibition efficiency η% increases with the inhibitor concentration while decreases with the increasing temperature referring to physical adsorption. The adsorption of the inhibitor obeys a Temkin adsorption isotherm. Polarization curves show that HDPB is a mixed inhibitor in H2SO4 solutions. The results obtained from polarization and impedance measurements are in good agreement. Activation-free energies, enthalpies, and entropies for the inhibition process of HDPB were determined.  相似文献

The effect of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na-CMC) on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in 1.0 mol·L−1 HCl solution has been investigated by using weight loss (WL) measurement, potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization resistance (LPR), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. These results showed that the inhibition efficiency of Na-CMC increased with increasing the inhibitor concentration. Potentiodynamic polarization studies revealed that the Na-CMC was a mixed type inhibitor in 1.0 mol·L−1 HCl. The adsorption of the inhibitor on mild steel surface has been found to obey the Langmuir isotherm. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in 1.0 mol·L−1 HCl with addition of 0.04% of Na-CMC has been studied in the temperature range of 298–328 K. The associated apparent activation energy (E*a) of corrosion reaction has been determined. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been applied to investigate the surface morphology of mild steel in the absence and presence of the inhibitor molecules.  相似文献

The efficiency of Acacia cyanophylla leaves extract as an environmentally friendly inhibitor for mild steel in aerated aqueous 1 M H2SO4 solution has been investigated by potentiodynamic polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. Addition of inhibitor decreases the corrosion current whereas the corrosion potential values show slight shifts in positive directions. Inhibition efficiency was found to be about 93% (the maximum value was determined from the polarization curve). Efficiencies obtained from both electrochemical techniques are in good agreement. Adsorption of Acacia cyanophylla leaves extract on mild steel surface in 1 M H2SO4 solution obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Polarization curves were also obtained at different temperatures in order to measure changes of corrosion rate. Corrosion current increases and inhibition efficiency decreases with temperature increasing in H2SO4 solutions with and without Acacia cyanophylla extract. Corrosion parameters also changed with exposure time. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The inhibitive effect of 2-aminoquinoline-6-carboxylic acid (AQC) against mild steel corrosion in 1?M HCl solutions was investigated using conventional weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods. The weight loss results showed that AQC is an excellent corrosion inhibitor since its efficiency increased with the concentration to attain 91.8?% at 500?mg?l?1. Electrochemical polarization measurements revealed that AQC acted as a mixed-type inhibitor and the results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy have shown that the change in the impedance parameters, charge transfer resistance and double layer capacitance, with the change in concentration of the inhibitor is due to the adsorption of the molecule leading to the formation of a protective layer on the surface of mild steel. The adsorption was assumed to occur on the steel surface through the active centers of the molecule. The inhibition action of AQC was discussed in view of Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Density functional theory calculations of quantum parameters were used to explain efficiency in relation with molecular structure.  相似文献

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution by the extract of litchi peel (Litchi chinensis) was studied by weight loss method, potentiodynamics polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results show that the litchi peels extract acts as mixed-type inhibitor. The inhibition of corrosion is found to be due to adsorption of the extract on metal surface, which is in conformity with Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm. UV–Vis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies confirm that the inhibition of corrosion of mild steel occurs through adsorption of the inhibitor molecules.  相似文献

Electrochemical measurements were performed to investigate the effectiveness and adsorption behaviour of aminobiphenyl (Aph) and 2-(3-hydroxybenzylideneamino)biphenyl (Aph-S), as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel (MS) in 0.5 M HCl solution. Potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization resistance (LP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques were applied to study the metal corrosion behaviour in the absence and presence of different concentrations of Aph and Aph-S. In order to gain more information about adsorption mechanism the AC impedance technique was used to evaluate the potential of zero charge (PZC) from polarization resistance (Rp) versus voltage (E) plot. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements showed that Aph act as cathodic type inhibitor where as Aph-S act mixed type. The inhibition efficiency (IE%) increases with increasing concentration of compounds and reached 92.6% for Aph and 97.2% for Aph-S at 5 × 10−3 M. Double layer capacitance (Cdl) and polarization resistance (Rp) values are derived from Nyquist plots obtained from AC impedance studies. The experimental data fit Langmuir isotherm for both Aph and Aph-S, and from the adsorption isotherm some thermodynamic data for the adsorption processes are calculated and discussed. The effect of exposure time on the corrosion behaviour of mild steel in the absence and presence of inhibitor over 168 h was also studied.  相似文献

The inhibition of the corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HCl and 1 M H2SO4 by Spirulina platensis has been studied at different temperatures viz., 303 K, 313 K and 323 K by weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization method, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements and SEM analysis. The inhibition efficiency increased with increasing concentration of the inhibitor in both HCl and H2SO4 media. The results of weight loss studies correlated well with those of impedance and polarization studies. From the results of weight loss studies at various temperatures, the mode of adsorption is confirmed to be physisorption. Further the adsorption has been found to follow Temkin isotherm. From this isotherm, the free energy of adsorption (ΔG) and entropy (ΔS) are calculated. The study reveals the corrosion inhibition potential of S. platensis in both the acid media, thus bringing to light another facet of this microalga as it has so far been used only to produce antioxidant principles, finding extensive use in medicine especially as neutraceutical.  相似文献

The effects of expired lansoprazole and rabeprazole on the corrosion protection of carbon steel in phosphoric acid (3.0 ?M) solution were examined by Tafel polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Lansoprazole and rabeprazole concentrations (0.5, 1.0, 5.0 and 10 ?mM) in acid solution were raised, which improved corrosion prevention. Both lansoprazole and rabeprazole as the mixed inhibitors retarded the anodic and cathodic processes, as indicated by polarization data. With the increasing temperature in the range of 25–55 ?°C, the inhibition efficiency drops from 92.9% to 69.3% for lansoprazole and from 94.8% to 74.2% for rabeprazole. The major decrease in the inhibition efficiency with ascending temperature proved the physisorption of the drugs. The activation energies for carbon steel corrosion in H3PO4solution were enhanced from 41.6 ?kJ ?mol?1 to 81.9 ?kJ.mol?1and 85.9 ?kJ ?mol?1 for lansoprazole and rabeprazole, respectively. The influence of temperature on the corrosion process of carbon steel in the acid medium was used to derive the thermodynamic quantities of corrosion. The adsorption of both lansoprazole and rabeprazole on carbon steel followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The polarization data yielded outcomes that were consistent with the results arising from impedance measurements. The theoretical study of both lansoprazole and rabeprazole was done by a density functional theory (DFT) approach to realize the effects of molecular structure on their inhibitive action. Both lansoprazole and rabeprazole contain a higher EHOMO, a lower ELUMO and a lower energy gap than some inhibitors earlier reported as good corrosion inhibitors in the literature.  相似文献

The corrosion inhibitive and adsorption behaviors of Hydroclathrus clathratus on mild steel in 1 M HCl and 1 M H2SO4 solutions at 303, 313 and 323 K were investigated by weight loss, electrochemical, and surface analysis techniques. The results show that H. clathratus acts as an inhibitor of corrosion of mild steel in acid media. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in inhibitor concentration but to decrease with rise in temperature, suggestive of physical adsorption. The adsorption of the inhibitor onto the mild steel surface was found to follow the Temkin adsorption isotherm. The inhibition mechanism was further corroborated by the results obtained from electrochemical methods. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses supported the inhibitive action of the alga against acid corrosion of mild steel.  相似文献

The influence of 3-methyl-2,6-diphenyl piperidin-4-one (MDPO) and 2-phenyl decahydroquinoline-4-one (PDQO) synthesised in the laboratory on hydrogen permeation and corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1N H2SO4 has been studied using weight loss and various electrochemical AC and DC corrosion-monitoring techniques. Both the compounds inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in H2SO4. Potentiodynamic polarisation studies clearly reveal that they behave predominantly as cathodic inhibitors. The extent of decrease in hydrogen permeation current through steel surfaces has been studied by the hydrogen electropermeation technique. Double layer capacitance (C dl ) and charge transfer resistance (R t ) values are derived from Nyquist plots obtained from AC impedance studies. The adsorption of these compounds on mild steel surfaces from H2SO4 obeys Temkin’s adsorption isotherm.  相似文献

Inhibition effect of imidazole derivative 1,7′-dimethyl-2′-propyl-1H,3′H-2,5′-bibenzo[d]imidazole (DPBI) against mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl solutions was evaluated using the conventional mass loss method, potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The mass loss results showed that DPBI is an excellent corrosion inhibitor; electrochemical polarizations data revealed the mixed mode of inhibition; and the results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed that the change in the impedance parameters, charge transfer resistance, and double layer capacitance with the change in the concentration of the inhibitor is due to the adsorption of the molecule leading to the formation of a protective layer on the surface of mild steel. The inhibition action of this compound was assumed to occur via adsorption on the steel surface through the active centers of the molecule.  相似文献

Abstract

The present study investigated the adsorption and inhibition behavior of leaf extract of Tephrosia Purpurea (T. purpurea) on mild steel corrosion in 1?N H2SO4 solution using electrochemical and surface morphological methods. Techniques adopted for electrochemical studies were Potentiodynamic Polarization and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) technique; and surface morphological studies were carried out using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The leaf extract of T. purpurea was characterized using UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) and Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GCMS). The results obtained from electrochemical studies exhibited the potential of T. purpurea as good corrosion inhibitor. And, it was found that, the inhibition efficiency (I.E in %) increases with increase in concentration of the inhibitor molecules, the optimum inhibitor concentration observed was 300?ppm and the inhibition efficiency of 93% was observed at this inhibitor concentration. Above 300?ppm, there was not much changes in inhibition efficiency. Polarization studies provided the information that the inhibition is of mixed type and EIS confirmed that the corrosion process is controlled by single charge transfer mechanism. And, it was obtained that, the adsorption of inhibitor molecules obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The inhibition is mainly by the adsorption of inhibitor molecules on the mild steel electrode surface, which was confirmed by FT-IR, SEM and AFM studies. Through all the experimental results, it can be arrived that, the leaf extract of T. purpurea performed as a good corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1?N sulfuric acid medium.  相似文献

The efficiency of Laurus nobilis leaves?? extract as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in acidic medium (1?M H2SO4) was investigated by use of the electrochemical techniques potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and polarization resistance measurements. According to the experimental results, L. nobilis extract acts as a good corrosion inhibitor. In the presence of the inhibitor, corrosion potential shifted toward a more negative value than for the blank solution. Inhibitor efficiency increased with increasing inhibitor concentration, as expected. According to the potentiodynamic polarization results the corrosion of mild steel increased with increasing temperature both in the presence and absence of the inhibitor. The activation energy (E a) of the corrosion process was calculated from the variation of corrosion current density with temperature.  相似文献

The corrosion process commonly limits the use of copper in practical applications. The use of corrosion inhibitors is one of the effective methods to reduce the corrosion rate of copper. In this research, the inhibition effect of acridine orange (3,6-bis(dimethylamine)acridine) (AcO) for the protection of copper in 0.5 ?M ?H2SO4 solution was studied. For this aim, the change of open circuit potential with exposure time (Eocp-t), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), linear polarization resistance (LPR), anodic and cathodic potentiodynamic polarization measurements (PP) and chronoamperometry (CA) techniques were used. Some quantum chemical parameters (EHOMO, ELUMO and dipole moment) were calculated and discussed. The AcO film formed over the copper surface was examined by SEM, EDX, AFM and contact angle measurements. The electrochemical data showed that AcO is an effective corrosion inhibitor even at low concentrations (ranging between 99.1% and %99.4 ?at concentrations from 0.01 ?mM to 1 ?mM). The corrosion rate of copper decreases in the presence of the inhibitor by reducing both anodic and cathodic rates, which is depended on its concentration. This compound behaves as mixed-type corrosion inhibitors with predominantly cathodic type. Its adsorption on the copper surface obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The value of adsorption equilibrium constant (Kads) and the standard free energy of adsorption were ΔGads 1.298 x 103 ?M?1 and -27.71 ?kJ/mol in the case of 0.5 ?M ?H2SO4 solution containing 1.0 ?mM AcO, which shows the adsorption is high and spontaneous. The adsorbed inhibitor film over the metal increase contact angle of the surface, which suggests the more hydrophobic properties of the surface are increasing coming from the orientation of hydrophobic sites to the electrolyte. The zero charge potential (Epzc) studies showed that the surface charge of the metal is positive in the corrosive media containing the inhibitor. Quantum chemical calculations showed that the binding of inhibitor molecules to the metal surface takes place through N atoms of the inhibitor.  相似文献

The corrosion inhibition efficiency of 3-acetylpyridine-semicarbazide (3APSC) on carbon steel (CS) in 1.0 M HCl solution has been investigated using weight loss measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization studies. The results show that inhibition efficiency on metal increases with the inhibitor concentration. 3APSC exhibited marked inhibition towards carbon steel in HCl medium even at low concentrations. The adsorption of inhibitor on the surfaces of the corroding metal obeys the Langmiur isotherm and thermodynamic parameters (K ads, ?G ads 0 ) were calculated. Activation parameters of the corrosion process (E a, ?H* and ?S*) were also calculated from the corrosion rates. Polarization studies revealed that 3APSC act as a mixed-type inhibitor. Surface analysis of the metal specimens was performed by scanning electron microscopy.  相似文献
