We analyze the saturation mechanism of a vacuum resonance microwave discharge (multipactor) for systems in which a magnetostatic field returns electrons to the metal surface with secondary-emission multiplying. The steady-state model suggested earlier is improved essentially. In particular, we take into account the near-surface interaction of saturated electron bunches during the limited time of discharge-electron-surface impact. It is found that the Coulomb defocusing of electron bunches prevails over their microwave focusing (toward the resonance phase of the field), making it possible to extract superfluous secondary electrons when the electron bunches are reproduced on the discharge surface. Basic characteristics of the discharge, such as its existence conditions and proper fields and phase disposition of the resonance electron bunches, are determined as functions of the magnetostatic field and the secondary-emission coefficient. The results are discussed in comparison with the data of known experiments. An explanation of some differences related to both the observation conditions and the used analytical model is given.  相似文献

Expressions for the fields of crossed Gaussian beams with foci shifted relative to the point of intersection of their axes are derived. It is shown that the linear corrections in parameter ε=1/0 must be taken into account in the crossed-beam intensity distribution (in contrast to the case of a single beam). The interference of crossed Gaussian beams has been investigated based on the intensity calculations taking into account linear corrections to the Poynting vector. The residual electron energy in crossed pulses is multiply increased in comparison with the case of acceleration in a single Gaussian pulse.  相似文献

In the CDS structure proposed to substitute the first cavity of the main part of the linac at the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the appearance of a multipactor discharge (MP) in coupling cells at the operating level of the accelerating field was detected. Earlier, an option for MP damping by alternating neighbor accelerating cell frequency detuning was considered. This option complicates the cavity section tuning. An option for MP removal by changes in the coupling cell geometry inducing the destruction of phase conditions of the electron cloud resonance motion was studied. The analytical estimation and results of numerical simulations are presented. In conditions of the first cavity of the INR linac, the options considered were compared with respect to the efficiency of MP damping and the enhanced resistivity to the increase of the secondary emission yield.

2D-electron heating in a potential well of a single n-(AlAs) x (GaAs)1–x /i-GaAs (x = 0.28) heterojunction is studied for the cases of a classical (weak) magnetic field B and constant and pulsed electric fields at fixed temperatures 77 and 4.2 K. It is shown that the heating of two-dimensional electrons is similar to that of the bulk ones. The magnetic field cools electrons, and this is manifested in the shifts of the characteristic critical electric fields E c 1 and E c 2 and in the regions of nonlinearity of voltage-current characteristics. The dependence of the effective electron temperature on the electric field T e(E)B is determined.  相似文献

We investigate theoretically the Einstein relation for the diffusivity-mobility ratio of the electrons in ternary semiconductors at low temperatures in the presence of crossed electric and quantizing magnetic fields on the basis of threeband Kane model. It is found, taking n-Hg1-xCdxTe as an example, that DMR shows an oscillatory magnetic field dependence. Besides, the DMR increase both with increasing electron concentration and decreasing alloy composition respectively.  相似文献

Townsend's first ionization coefficients have been measured in corssed electric and magnetic fields for values of B/p ranging from 0.013 TESLA. TORR-1 to 0.064 TESLA.TORR-1 and for 103 x 102? E/p? 331 x 102 V.M-1. TORR-1 in oxygen and for 122 x 102? E/p?488 x 102 V.M-1.TORR-1 for dry air. The values of effective collision frequencies determined from the equivalent pressure (pe) concept generally increase with E/p at constant B/p and decrease with increasing B/p at constant E/p. Effective collision frequencies determined from measured sparking potentials at high values of E/p increase with decreasing E/pe. The drift velocity and mean energy of electrons in oxygen in crossed electric and magnetic fields have been derived.  相似文献

The discharge characteristics of hollow cathode discharge in argon in a cylindrical cavity are investigated experi- mentally. The voltage-current (V - I) characteristics and the light emission are measured. It is found that the discharge plasma is localized inside the hollow cavity, with an extensive Faraday dark space between the cathode and the anode. The discharge develops from predischarge to abnormal glow discharge, the hollow cathode effect (HCE) and a hybrid mode as the discharge current increases. The onset of the HCE is found for the first time by the transition from abnormal glow discharge together with a significant decrease in the slope of the V - I curve which shows a positive differential resistivity. The voltage increases proportionally with the current when the HCE is reached.  相似文献

The numerical solutions of Boltzmann transpott equation for the energy distribution of electrons moving in crossed fields in nitrogen have been obtained for 100 ? E/p ? 1000 V M-1 Torr-1 and for 0? B/p ? 0.02 Tesla Torr-1 using the concept of energy dependent effective field intensity. From the derived distribution functions the electron mean energy, the tranaverse and perpendicular drift velocities and the averaged effective field intensity (Eavef) which signifies the average field intensity experienced by electron swarms in E × B field have been derived. The maximum difference between the electron mean energy for a given E × B field and that corresponding to Eavef/p (p is the gas pressure) is found to be within ±3.5%.  相似文献

The parameters of a self-maintained low-pressure discharge in crossed E×H fields are compared for the Penning discharge with a self-heated disk cathode and the combined discharge with an axial self-heated rod electrode. Based on the continuity equation for the electron flux and the energy balance on the hot cathode, the parameters of the discharge in crossed E×H fields with the self-heated cathode are calculated for a wide range of variations of geometrical sizes of the discharge cell and work functions of cathode material. We treat the classical dynamics of the hydrogen atom in perpendicular electric and magnetic fields as a celestial mechanics problem. By expressing the Hamiltonian in appropriate action–angle variables, we separate the different time scales of the motion. The method of averaging then allows us to reduce the system to two degrees of freedom, and to classify the most important periodic orbits.  相似文献

We have calculated variationally the ground state binding energy of a hydrogenic donor impurity in a parabolic quantum well in the presence of crossed electric and magnetic fields. These homogeneous crossed fields are such that the magnetic field is parallel to the heterostructure layers and the electric field is applied perpendicular to the magnetic field. The dependence of the donor impurity binding energy to the well width and the strength of the electric and magnetic fields are discussed. We hope that the obtained results will provide important improvements in device applications, especially for a suitable choice of both fields in the narrow well widths.  相似文献
