ChemInform Abstract: Characterization of Iron Oxide-Dispersed Activated Carbon Fibres (ACP) with Fe K-Edge XANES and EXAFS and with Water Adsorption.

The spectra indicate that ultrafine α-FeOOH-particles transform into α-Fe2O3-like particles after vacuum heating at 573 and 773 K. The water adsorption isotherms on α-FeOOH dispersed ACF are of type V. The isotherms are analyzed by use of the Dubinin-Serpinsky equation.     

Chemical interface damping in single gold nanorods and its near elimination by tip-specific functionalization

Tip-functionalized nanorods: Single-particle spectroscopy shows that functionalization of small gold nanorods with thiol groups leads to a broadening of the plasmon resonance by chemical interface damping. By specifically functionalizing the tips of the nanorod this broadening is nearly eliminated while the sensing performance is maintained relative to fully functionalized particles.
