Aqueous room temperature phosphorescence (aRTP) from purely organic materials has been intriguing but challenging. In this article, we demonstrated that the red aRTP emission of 2Br–NDI, a water-soluble 4,9-dibromonaphthalene diimide derivative as a chloride salt, could be modulated by anion–π and intermolecular electronic coupling interactions in water. Specifically, the rarely reported stabilization of anion–π interactions in water between Cl and the 2Br–NDI core was experimentally evidenced by an anion–π induced long-lived emission (λAnion–π) of 2Br–NDI, acting as a competitive decay pathway against the intrinsic red aRTP emission (λPhos) of 2Br–NDI. In the initial expectation of enhancing the aRTP of 2Br–NDI by inclusion complexation with macrocyclic cucurbit[n]urils (CB[n]s, n = 7, 8, 10), we surprisingly found that the exclusion complexation between CB[8] and 2Br–NDI unconventionally endowed the complex with the strongest and longest-lived aRTP due to the strong intermolecular electronic coupling between the nπ* orbit on the carbonyl rims of CB[8] and the ππ* orbit on 2Br–NDI in water. It is anticipated that these intriguing findings may inspire and expand the exploration of aqueous anion–π recognition and CB[n]-based aRTP materials.

The aqueous room temperature phosphorescence of 2Br–NDI is modulated by long-lived-emitting anion–π interactions and tremendously enhanced by intermolecular electronic coupling interactions with the ISC-boosting carbonyl rims of CB[8] host.  相似文献

Ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy reveals new excited-state dynamics following excitation of trans-azobenzene (t-Az) and several alkyl-substituted t-Az derivatives encapsulated in a water-soluble supramolecular host–guest complex. Encapsulation increases the excited-state lifetimes and alters the yields of the transcis photoisomerization reaction compared with solution. Kinetic modeling of the transient spectra for unsubstituted t-Az following nπ* and ππ* excitation reveals steric trapping of excited-state species, as well as an adiabatic excited-state transcis isomerization pathway for confined molecules that is not observed in solution. Analysis of the transient spectra following ππ* excitation for a series of 4-alkyl and 4,4′-dialkyl substituted t-Az molecules suggests that additional crowding due to lengthening of the alkyl tails results in deeper trapping of the excited-state species, including distorted trans and cis structures. The variation of the dynamics due to crowding in the confined environment provides new evidence to explain the violation of Kasha''s rule for nπ* and ππ* excitation of azobenzenes based on competition between in-plane inversion and out-of-plane rotation channels.

Para-hydroxy methylcinnamate is part of the cinnamate family of molecules. Experimental and computational studies have suggested conflicting non-radiative decay routes after photoexcitation to its S1(ππ*) state. One non-radiative decay route involves intersystem crossing mediated by an optically dark singlet state, whilst the other involves direct intersystem crossing to a triplet state. Furthermore, irrespective of the decay mechanism, the lifetime of the initially populated S1(ππ*) state is yet to be accurately measured. In this study, we use time-resolved ion-yield and photoelectron spectroscopies to precisely determine the S1(ππ*) lifetime for the s-cis conformer of para-hydroxy methylcinnamate, combined with time-dependent density functional theory to determine the major non-radiative decay route. We find the S1(ππ*) state lifetime of s-cis para-hydroxy methylcinnamate to be ∼2.5 picoseconds, and the major non-radiative decay route to follow the [1ππ*→1nπ*→3ππ*→S0] pathway. These results also concur with previous photodynamical studies on structurally similar molecules, such as para-coumaric acid and methylcinnamate.  相似文献

The design, synthesis, and electronic properties of a new series of D–π–A conjugates consisting of free base (H2P) and zinc porphyrins (ZnP) as electron donors and a fullerene (C60) as electron acceptor, in which the two electroactive entities are covalently linked through pyridine-vinylene spacers of different lengths, are described. Electronic interactions in the ground state were characterized by electrochemical and absorption measurements, which were further supported with theoretical calculations. Most importantly, charge-transfer bands were observed in the absorption spectra, indicating a strong pushpull behavior. In the excited states, electronic interactions were detected by selective photoexcitation under steady-state conditions, by time-resolved fluorescence investigations, and by pump probe experiments on the femto-, pico-, and nanosecond time scales. Porphyrin fluorescence is quenched for the different D–π–A conjugates, from which we conclude that the deactivation mechanisms of the excited singlet states are based on photoinduced energy- and/or electron transfer processes between H2P/ZnP and C60, mediated through the molecular spacers. The fluorescence intensity decreases and the fluorescence lifetimes shorten as the spacer length decreases and as the spacer substitution changes. With the help of transient absorption spectroscopy, the formation of charge-separated states involving oxidized H2P/ZnP and reduced C60 was confirmed. Lifetimes of the corresponding charge-separated states, which ranged from ∼400 picoseconds to 165 nanoseconds, depend on the spacer length, the spacer substitution, and the solvent polarity. Interestingly, D–π–A conjugates containing the longest linkers did not necessarily exhibit the longest charge-separated state lifetimes. The distances between the electron donors and the acceptors were calculated by molecular modelling. The longest charge-separated state lifetime corresponded to the D–π–A conjugate with the longest electron donor–acceptor distance. Likewise, EPR measurements in frozen media revealed charge separated states in all the D–π–A conjugates investigated. A sharp peak with g values ∼2.000 was assigned to reduced C60, while a broader, less intense signal (g ∼ 2.003) was assigned to oxidized H2P/ZnP. On–off switching of the formation and decay of the charge-separated states was detected by EPR at 77 K by repeatedly turning the irradiation source on and off.  相似文献

Abundant n → π* interactions between adjacent backbone carbonyl groups, identified by statistical analysis of protein structures, are predicted to play an important role in dictating the structure of proteins. However, experimentally testing the prediction in proteins has been challenging due to the weak nature of this interaction. By amplifying the strength of the n → π* interaction via amino acid substitution and thioamide incorporation at a solvent exposed β-turn within the GB1 proteins and Pin 1 WW domain, we demonstrate that an n → π* interaction increases the structural stability of proteins by restricting the ϕ torsion angle. Our results also suggest that amino acid side-chain identity and its rotameric conformation play an important and decisive role in dictating the strength of an n → π* interaction.

Amino acid residues adopt a right-handed α-helical conformation with increasing strength of the n → π* interaction. We also demonstrate a direct consequence of n → π* interactions on enhancing the structural stability of proteins.  相似文献

In 1996, we reported that silyl groups of 9,10-disilylanthracenes significantly affect the UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra. Although the results indicate that the silyl groups have strong electronic effects on anthracene, the details of the mechanisms responsible for this have not yet been clarified. This article describes the analysis of the UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra of 9,10-bis(diisopropylsilyl)anthracene by theoretical calculations. This study reveals that π conjugation of anthracene is extended by cooperation of σ–π and σ*–π* conjugation between the silyl groups and anthracene. This effect increases the transition moment of the π–π* transition of anthracene. As a result, the molecular extinction coefficient of the 1La band and the fluorescence quantum yield are increased.  相似文献

The excited state lifetimes of uracil, thymine and 5-fluorouracil have been measured using femtosecond UV fluorescence upconversion in various protic and aprotic polar solvents. The fastest decays are observed in acetonitrile and the slowest in aqueous solution while those observed in alcohols are intermediate. No direct correlation with macroscopic solvent parameters such as polarity or viscosity is found, but hydrogen bonding is one key factor affecting the fluorescence decay. It is proposed that the solvent modulates the relative energy of two close-lying electronically excited states, the bright ππ* and the dark nπ* states. This relative energy gap controls the non-radiative relaxation of the ππ* state through a conical intersection close to the Franck–Condon region competing with the ultrafast internal conversion to the ground state. In addition, an inverse isotope effect is observed in D2O where the decays are faster than in H2O.  相似文献

In this study, charged π-electronic species are observed to develop stacking structures based on electrostatic and dispersion forces. iπ–iπ Interaction, defined herein, functions for the stacking structures consisting of charged π-electronic species and is in contrast to conventional π–π interaction, which mainly exhibits dispersion force, for electronically neutral π-electronic species. Establishing the concept of iπ–iπ interaction requires the evaluation of interionic interactions for π-electronic ion pairs. Free base (metal-free) and diamagnetic metal complexes of 5-hydroxy-10,15,20-tris(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin were synthesized, producing π-electronic anions upon the deprotonation of the hydroxy unit. Coexisting cations in the ion pairs with porphyrin anions were introduced as the counter species of the hydroxy anion as a base for commercially available cations and as ion-exchanged species, via Na+ in the intermediate ion pairs, for synthesized π-electronic cations. Solid-state ion-pairing assemblies were constructed for the porphyrin anions in combination with aliphatic tetrabutylammonium (TBA+) and π-electronic 4,8,12-tripropyl-4,8,12-triazatriangulenium (TATA+) cations. The ordered arrangements of charged species, with the contributions of the charge-by-charge and charge-segregated modes, were observed according to the constituent charged building units. The energy decomposition analysis (EDA) of single-crystal packing structures revealed that electrostatic and dispersion forces are important factors in stabilizing the stacking of π-electronic ions. Furthermore, crystal-state absorption spectra of the ion pairs were correlated with the assembling modes. Transient absorption spectroscopy of the single crystals revealed the occurrence of photoinduced electron transfer from the π-electronic anion in the charge-segregated mode.

π-Electronic ion pairs comprising porphyrin-based π-electronic anions have exhibited characteristic assembling modes and resulting electronic properties such as solid-state absorption and photoinduced electron transfer.  相似文献

The geometries of 7-azaindole (7AI), its tautomer (7AT), and 7AI–H2O and 7AT–H2O complexes were optimised in the ground state and some low-lying singlet excited states using the 3-21G basis set. Differences of total energies of the optimised ground and excited states and the vertical excitation energies of these systems were used to explain the observed electronic spectra. Effect of solvation of these systems in bulk water was studied using the polarized continuum model (PCM). The mode of binding of a water molecule in the S2(n–π*) excited state of 7AI was found to be quite different from those in its ground and π–π* excited states. It is shown that crossing of the lowest two singlet excited-state potential surfaces S1(π–π*) and S2(n–π*) of 7AI occurs in the vapour phase under geometry relaxation while on interaction with water, the S2(n–π*) excited state is raised up appreciably going even above the S3(π–π*) excited state. Ground- and excited-state molecular electrostatic potential mapping was carried out, which led to valuable information regarding the nature of excited states of the above-mentioned systems.  相似文献

Implementing chemical reactivity into synthetic supramolecular polymers based on π-conjugated molecules has been of great interest to create functional materials with spatiotemporal dynamic properties. However, the development of an in situ chemical reaction within supramolecular polymers is still in its infancy, because one needs to design optimal π-conjugated monomers having excellent reactivity under mild conditions possibly without byproducts or a catalyst. Herein we report the synthesis of a supramolecular polymer based on ethynyl core-substituted naphthalenediimide (S-NDI2) molecules that react with various amines quantitatively in a nonpolar solvent, without a catalyst, at 298 K. Most interestingly, the in situ reaction of the S-NDI2 supramolecular polymer with a linear aliphatic diamine proceeded much faster than the homogeneous reaction of a monomeric naphthalenediimide with the same diamine, affording diamine-linked S-NDI2 oligomers and polymers. The acceleration of in situ hydroamination was presumably due to rapid intra-supramolecular cross-linking between ethynyl and amino groups fixed in close proximity within the supramolecular polymer. Such intra-supramolecular cross-linking did not occur efficiently with an incompatible diamine. The systematic kinetic studies of in situ catalyst-free hydroamination within supramolecular polymers provide us with a useful, facile and versatile tool kit for designing dynamic supramolecular polymeric materials based on electron-deficient π-conjugated monomers.

A supramolecular polymer based on ethynyl core-substituted naphthalenediimides reacted with various amines quantitatively without a catalyst, exhibiting unconventional reaction kinetics and products.  相似文献

Image-guided photodynamic therapy (PDT) can realize highly precise and effective therapy via the integration of imaging and therapy, and has created high requirements for photosensitizers. However, the PDT modality usually utilizes conventional type II photosensitizers, resulting in unsatisfactory imaging and therapeutic outcomes due to aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ), “always on” fluorescence and strong oxygen dependence. Herein, we report the type I-based aggregation-induced emission (AIE) photosensitizer TCM-CPS with low oxygen dependence, near-infrared (NIR) emission and “off–on” fluorescence; in particular, it produces more reactive oxygen species (ROS) than commercially available Chlorin e6 and Rose Bengal. In the rational design of the AIE-based photosensitizer TCM-CPS, the strongly electron-donating carbazole unit and π-thiophene bridge distinctly extend the emission wavelength and decrease the autofluorescence interference in bio-imaging, and the hydrophilic pyridinium salt group guarantees good molecular dispersion and maintains the fluorescence-off state in the aqueous system to decrease the initial fluorescence background. Moreover, the strong donor–π–acceptor (D–π–A) character in TCM-CPS greatly separates the HOMO–LUMO distribution, enhancing the ROS generation, and TCM-CPS was constructed as a type I photosensitizer with the assistance of strong intramolecular charge transfer in the electron-rich anion–π+ structure. Based on its favorable hydrophilicity and photosensitivity, TCM-CPS was found to be a highly efficient free-radical ROS photogenerator for both visualizing cells using light-up NIR fluorescence and efficiently killing cancer cells upon light irradiation. The positively charged TCM-CPS could quickly bind to bacteria via electrostatic interactions to provide a light-up signal and kill bacteria at a low concentration. In the PDT treatment of bacteria-infected mice, the mice exhibited accelerated wound healing with low wound infection. Thus, the AIE-based type I photosensitizer TCM-CPS has great potential to replace commercially available photosensitizers in the image-guided PDT modality for the treatment of cancer and bacterial infection.

The AIE-based type I photosensitizer TCM-CPS exhibits high free radical generation and light-up fluorescence characteristics, giving it great potential in the image-guided PDT modality for the treatment of cancer and bacterial infections.  相似文献

Intermolecular bonding attraction at π-bonded centers is often described as “electrostatically driven” and given quasi-classical rationalization in terms of a “pi hole” depletion region in the electrostatic potential. However, we demonstrate here that such bonding attraction also occurs between closed-shell ions of like charge, thereby yielding locally stable complexes that sharply violate classical electrostatic expectations. Standard DFT and MP2 computational methods are employed to investigate complexation of simple pi-bonded diatomic anions (BO, CN) with simple atomic anions (H, F) or with one another. Such “anti-electrostatic” anion–anion attractions are shown to lead to robust metastable binding wells (ranging up to 20–30 kcal/mol at DFT level, or still deeper at dynamically correlated MP2 level) that are shielded by broad predissociation barriers (ranging up to 1.5 Å width) from long-range ionic dissociation. Like-charge attraction at pi-centers thereby provides additional evidence for the dominance of 3-center/4-electron (3c/4e) nD-π*AX interactions that are fully analogous to the nD-σ*AH interactions of H-bonding. Using standard keyword options of natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, we demonstrate that both n-σ* (sigma hole) and n-π* (pi hole) interactions represent simple variants of the essential resonance-type donor-acceptor (Bürgi–Dunitz-type) attraction that apparently underlies all intermolecular association phenomena of chemical interest. We further demonstrate that “deletion” of such π*-based donor-acceptor interaction obliterates the characteristic Bürgi–Dunitz signatures of pi-hole interactions, thereby establishing the unique cause/effect relationship to short-range covalency (“charge transfer”) rather than envisioned Coulombic properties of unperturbed monomers.  相似文献

A two-step route to strongly absorbing and efficiently orange to deep red fluorescent, doubly B/N-doped, ladder-type pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrroles has been developed. We synthesize and study a series of derivatives of these four-coordinate boron-containing, nominally quadrupolar materials, which mostly exhibit one-photon absorption in the 500–600 nm range with the peak molar extinction coefficients reaching 150 000, and emission in the 520–670 nm range with the fluorescence quantum yields reaching 0.90. Within the family of these ultrastable dyes even small structural changes lead to significant variations of the photophysical properties, in some cases attributed to reversal of energy ordering of alternate-parity excited electronic states. Effective preservation of ground-state inversion symmetry was evidenced by very weak two-photon absorption (2PA) at excitation wavelengths corresponding to the lowest-energy, strongly one-photon allowed purely electronic transition. π-Expanded derivatives and those possessing electron-donating groups showed the most red-shifted absorption- and emission spectra, while displaying remarkably high peak 2PA cross-section (σ2PA) values reaching ∼2400 GM at around 760 nm, corresponding to a two-photon allowed higher-energy excited state. At the same time, derivatives lacking π-expansion were found to have a relatively weak 2PA peak centered at ca. 800–900 nm with the maximum σ2PA ∼50–250 GM. Our findings are augmented by theoretical calculations performed using TD-DFT method, which reproduce the main experimental trends, including the 2PA, in a nearly quantitative manner. Electrochemical studies revealed that the HOMO of the new dyes is located at ca. −5.35 eV making them relatively electron rich in spite of the presence of two B–N+ dative bonds. These dyes undergo a fully reversible first oxidation, located on the diphenylpyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole core, directly to the di(radical cation) stage.

Ladder-type heterocycles encompassing two B–N+ dative bonds possess intense green to red emission, large 2PA cross-sections and superb photostability.  相似文献

Aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) phenomena received great popularity during the last decade but in most cases insights into the packing structure – fluorescence properties remained scarce. Here, an almost non-fluorescent merocyanine dye was equipped with large solubilizing substituents, which allowed the investigation of it''s aggregation behaviour in unpolar solvents over a large concentration range (10−2 to 10−7 M). In depth analysis of the self-assembly process by concentration-dependent UV/Vis spectroscopy at different temperatures revealed a two-step anti-cooperative aggregation mechanism. In the first step a co-facially stacked dimer is formed driven by dipole–dipole interactions. In a second step these dimers self-assemble to give an oligomer stack consisting of about ten dyes. Concentration- and temperature-dependent UV/Vis spectroscopy provided insight into the thermodynamic parameters and allowed to identify conditions where either the monomer, the dimer or the decamer prevails. The centrosymmetric dimer structure could be proven by 2D NMR spectroscopy. For the larger decamer atomic force microscopy (AFM), diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) and vapour pressure osmometric (VPO) measurements consistently indicated that it is of small and defined size. Fluorescence, circular dichroism (CD) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) spectroscopy provided insights into the photofunctional properties of the dye aggregates. Starting from an essentially non-fluorescent monomer (ΦFl = 0.23%) a strong AIEE effect with excimer-type fluorescence (large Stokes shift, increased fluorescence lifetime) is observed upon formation of the dimer (ΦFl = 2.3%) and decamer (ΦFl = 4.5%) stack. This increase in fluorescence is accompanied for both aggregates by an aggregation-induced CPL enhancement with a strong increase of the glum from ∼0.001 for the dimer up to ∼0.011 for the higher aggregate. Analysis of the radiative and non-radiative decay rates corroborates the interpretation that the AIEE effect originates from a pronounced decrease of the non-radiative rate due to π–π-stacking induced rigidification that outmatches the effect of the reduced radiative rate that originates from the H-type exciton coupling in the co-facially stacked dyes.

The self-assembly of a dipolar merocyanine into preferred dimers and small-sized chiral aggregates leads to enhanced emission due to a reduced non-radiative rate as well as amplified circular polarized luminescence.  相似文献

Thiomaleimides undergo efficient intermolecular [2 + 2] photocycloaddition reactions and offer applications from photochemical peptide stapling to polymer crosslinking; however, the reactions are limited to the formation of the exo head-to-head isomers. Herein, we present an intramolecular variation which completely reverses the stereochemical outcome of this photoreaction, quantitatively generating endo adducts which minimise the structural disturbance of the disulfide staple and afford a 10-fold increase in quantum yield. We demonstrate the application of this reaction on a protein scaffold, using light to confer thiol stability to an antibody fragment conjugate. To understand more about this intriguing class of [2 + 2] photocycloadditions, we have used transient absorption spectroscopy (electronic and vibrational) to study the excited states involved. The initially formed S21π*) excited state is observed to decay to the S1 (n1π*) state before intersystem crossing to a triplet state. An accelerated intramolecular C–C bond formation provides evidence to explain the increased efficiency of the reaction, and the impact of the various excited states on the carbonyl vibrational modes is discussed.

Tethered bromomaleimides are described which undergo thiol conjugation and rapid regio- and stereoselective photocycloadditions to serve as disulfide staples; with the excited state intermediates observed by transient absorption spectroscopies.  相似文献

Tetrazines with branched alkoxy substituents are liquids at ambient temperature that despite the high chromophore density retain the bright orange fluorescence that is characteristic of this exceptional fluorophore. Here, we study the photophysical properties of a series of alkoxy-tetrazines in solution and as neat liquids. We also correlate the size of the alkoxy substituents with the viscosity of the liquids. We show using time-resolved spectroscopy that intersystem crossing is an important decay pathway competing with fluorescence, and that its rate is higher for 3,6-dialkoxy derivatives than for 3-chloro-6-alkoxytetrazines, explaining the higher fluorescence quantum yields for the latter. Quantum chemical calculations suggest that the difference in rate is due to the activation energy required to distort the tetrazine core such that the nπ*S1 and the higher-lying ππ*T2 states cross, at which point the spin-orbit coupling exceeding 10 cm1 allows for efficient intersystem crossing to occur. Femtosecond time-resolved anisotropy studies in solution allow us to measure a positive relationship between the alkoxy chain lengths and their rotational correlation times, and studies in the neat liquids show a fast decay of the anisotropy consistent with fast exciton migration in the neat liquid films.  相似文献

An efficient palladium-catalyzed AAA reaction with a simple α-sulfonyl carbon anion as nucleophiles is presented for the first time. Allyl fluorides are used as superior precursors for the generation of π-allyl complexes that upon ionization liberate fluoride anions for activation of silylated nucleophiles. With the unique bidentate diamidophosphite ligand ligated palladium as catalyst, the in situ generated α-sulfonyl carbon anion was quickly captured by the allylic intermediates, affording a series of chiral homo-allylic sulfones with high efficiency and selectivity. This work provides a mild in situ desilylation strategy to reveal nucleophilic carbon centers that could be used to overcome the pKa limitation of “hard” nucleophiles in enantioselective transformations.

A variety of “hard” α-sulfonyl carbanions of aryl, heteroaryl and alkyl sulfones were successfully employed as nucleophiles in palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation with excellent enantioselectivities.  相似文献

Main group organometallic compounds can exhibit unusual optical properties arising from hybrid σ,π-conjugation. While linear silanes are extensively studied, the shortage of methods for the controlled synthesis of well-defined cyclic materials has precluded the study of cyclic conjugation. Herein we report that Ru-catalyzed addition of cyclosilanes to aryl acetylenes (hydrosilylation) proceeds with high chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, and diastereoselectivity, affording complex organosilanes that absorb visible light. We further show that the hydrosilylation products are useful building blocks towards novel conjugated polymers.

Hybrid σ,π-conjugated cyclosilanes were synthesized via highly selective hydrosilylation and have shown great potentials as building blocks to construct novel conjugated polymers with control of tacticity.  相似文献

Raf, a threonine/serine kinase in the Raf/MEK/ERK pathway, regulates cell proliferation. Raf''s full activation requires dimerization. Aberrant activation through dimerization is an important therapeutic target. Despite its clinical importance, fundamental questions, such as how the side-to-side dimerization promotes the OFF-to-ON transition of Raf''s kinase domain and how the fully activated ON-state kinase domain is stabilized in the dimer for Raf signaling, remain unanswered. Herein, we decipher an atomic-level mechanism of Raf activation through dimerization, clarifying this enigma. The mechanism reveals that the replacement of intramolecular π–π stacking by intermolecular π–π stacking at the dimer interface releases the structural constraint of the αC-helix, promoting the OFF-to-ON transition. During the transition, the inhibitory hydrophobic interactions were disrupted, making the phosphorylation sites in A-loop approach the HRD motif for cis-autophosphorylation. Once fully activated, the ON-state kinase domain can be stabilized by a newly identified functional N-terminal basic (NtB) motif in the dimer for Raf signaling. This work provides atomic level insight into critical steps in Raf activation and outlines a new venue for drug discovery against Raf dimerization.

We decipher an atomic-level mechanism of Raf activation through dimerization, revealing that the disruption of intramolecular π–π stacking at the dimer interface promotes the OFF-to-ON transition.  相似文献

In the most general practice of asymmetric catalysis, a chiral catalyst, typically bearing a center or an axis of chirality, is employed as the chiral source for imparting enantiocontrol over the developing product. Given the current interest toward optically pure compounds, various forms of chiral induction enabled by diverse chiral sources as well as the use of multiple catalysts under one-pot conditions have been in focus. In one such promising development, an achiral N-sulfonamide protected 1,6-amino allyl alcohol (NaphSO2NHCH2C(Ph)2CH2CH Created by potrace 1.16, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2019 CHCH2OH) was subjected to Tsuji–Trost activation and an intramolecular amination to form important chiral pyrrolidine frameworks. A dual catalytic system comprising Pd(PPh3)4 and DAPCy (β-cyclohexyl substituted double axially chiral phosphoric acid derived from two homocoupled BINOL backbones with a dynamic central chiral axis) under mild conditions was reported to offer quantitative conversion with an ee of 95%. Here, we provide molecular insights into the origin of chiral induction by DAPCy, as obtained through a comprehensive density functional theory (SMD(toluene)/B3LYP-D3/6-31G**,Pd(SDD)) investigation. Two key steps in the mechanism are identified to involve a cooperative mode of activation of the Pd-bound allyl alcohol in the form of a Pd-π-allyl moiety at one end of the substrate, followed by an intramolecular nucleophilic addition of N-sulfonamide from the other end to yield a pyrrolidine derivative bearing an α-vinyl stereogenic center. (S,R,S)-DAPCy is found to steer the dehydroxylation to yield a Pd-π-allyl intermediate with a suitably poised si prochiral face for the nucleophilic addition. In the enantiocontrolled (as well as the turn-over determining step) nucleophilic addition, the chiral catalyst is identified to serve as a chiral phosphate counterion. The chiral induction is facilitated by a series of N–H⋯O, C–H⋯O, C–H⋯π, lone pair (lp)⋯π, O–H⋯O, O–H⋯π, and π⋯π noncovalent interactions, which is noted as more effective in the lower energy C–N bond formation transition state through the si prochiral face of the Pd-π-allyl moiety. These insights into the novel dynamic axially double chiral catalyst could be valuable toward exploiting such modes of stereoinduction.

The origin of enantiocontrol in an intramolecular amination involving Pd(PPh3)4 and a double axially chiral phosphoric acid (DAPCy) dual catalytic system is traced to a more effective series of noncovalent interactions in the lower energy C–N bond formation transition state.  相似文献
