LiDy2Cl5, ein Zwischenprodukt bei der „metallothermischen”︁ Reduktion von DyCl3 mit Lithium

LiDy₂Cl₅, an Intermediate of the Metallothermic Reduction of DyCl₃ with Lithium LiDy₂Cl₅ has been obtained via 2 Li + 2 DyCl₃ = LiDy₂Cl₅ + LiCl as black single crystals (700°C, 1 week, sealed tantalum container) and crystallizes monoclinic with a = 1545.6(7), b = 659.2(2), c = 728.7(3) pm, β = 95.79(3)°, Z = 4, C2/c. Octahedra [LiCl₆] are connected via common corners to rings [Li₄Cl₂₀], these parallel (100) to layers [LiCl₄]. Bicapped trigonal prisms [DyCl₈] are connected to a three-dimensional network [(DyCl1_3/3Cl2_3/3Cl3_2/4)] ? [Dy₂Cl₅].     

HgPb2O2Cl2, ein „perforiertes”︁ Blei(II)-oxid

HgPb₂O₂Cl₂, a “Perforated” Lead(II) Oxide Single crystals of HgPb₂O₂Cl₂ were grown in a HgCl₂ flux by reaction of PbO with HgCl₂. Crystal structure analysis by single crystal X-ray methods were carried out. HgPb₂O₂Cl₂ crystallizes monoclinic with a = 11.788(2) Å, b = 3.910(1) Å, c = 7.749(2) Å, β = 122.64(3)°, space group C2/m (No. 12) and Z = 2. HgPb₂O₂Cl₂ is the first member of a new structure type, closely related to the structure of PbO.     

Goethes Experimente mit „chemischen Farben”︁

In connection with the chemical aspects of his work „Farbenlehre”︁, which involved him almost his whole life, Goethe, too, performed chemicals experiments which he recorded so carefully that his notes can still he reproduced today. It deals with tests series on the reactions of metal salts solutions with yellow prussiate of potash (potassium ferrocyanide), at that time called „Berlinerblau Lauge”︁, acid-base reactions of numerous blossom dyes (today noted as anthocyanes), silver pigments and the coloured ions of manganese in its several oxidation states, called as mineral chameleon.
