The effect of MCM-41 on the ESR spectrum of an aqueous spin probe solution was observed. The sharp ESR spectrum turns into a rather broad characteristic one leaving a sharper signal as the minor component, immediately after the addition of MCM-41 powder to the system. This observation indicates that MCM-41 traps the solute molecule into the nanochannel by letting the solvent water form a rather stable molecular cage, since the ESR line shape indicates that the nitroxide radical undergoes anisotropic rotation without being adsorbed on the wall. Thermodynamic parameters for this process are estimated from the temperature dependencies of the trapping efficiency. This process is explained in terms of the surface enthalpy of the liquid specifically intensified in the nanospace.  相似文献

The mesoporous MCM-41 materials were prepared in very short crystallization time (∼40 min) upon microwave irradiation in comparison with conventional hydrothermal heating method. With both microwave irradiation and hydrothermal heating, the MCM-41 formation via supramolecular templating method has been monitored by fluorescence and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. Pyrene as a fluorescence probe and 4-(N,N-dimethyl-N-hexadecyl)ammonium-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidinyloxy iodide (CAT16) as a spin probe were respectively dissolved into the micelle solutions to form the MCM-41 precursor gels. These probes allow the monitoring of the supramolecular interaction between the anionic silicate species and the cationic surfactant molecules during the MCM-41 formation. Analyses of fluorescence and ESR spectra indicate that the fast increase of hydrophobicity and microviscosity at the solubilzation sites of the probes results from the accelerated condensation of silicates onto the micelle surface upon microwave irradiation. The fluorescence change from the silicate L-center in the MCM-41 precursor gel also probes the fast silicate condensation upon microwave irradiation. It seems that the fast formation of MCM-41 upon microwave irradiation is ascribed to the microwave-susceptible head groups of surfactant molecules in addition to fast dissolution of the precursor gel.  相似文献

A spin-probe ESR study has been made on the dynamics of 2-propanol and water molecules in the nanochannel of MCM-41 at various temperatures. In the former system, 2-propanol is separated into two phases: one with molecules immobilized in the ESR time scale and the other with mobile ones, even at temperatures more than 40 degrees higher than the bulk melting point. In the case of water, on the other hand, only the "immobilized" water was detected at a temperature as high as 313 K. At higher temperature, spin-probe molecule undergoes anisotropic rotational diffusion to reduce resistance from the solvent molecules in the nanochannel. These results are explained in relation to the intermolecular network intensified in the nanochannel. Static as well as dynamic structures of these solutions have been discussed.  相似文献

The properties of the silica layer during the formation of the mesoporous material MCM-41 were investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments carried out on a specifically designed, organo(trialkoxy)silane spin probe, SL1SiEt. Minute amounts of the spin probe were co-condensed with the silica source, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), in the synthesis of MCM-41 with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) under basic conditions. The mobility and location of the spin probe were followed in the CTAB micellar solution before the reaction, in the reaction mixture and in the final ordered material. It was found that the EPR spectra of hydrolyzed SL1SiEt throughout the room temperature part of the reaction are characteristic of a fast tumbling species, indicating that the silica is highly fluid prior to drying. After filtering, a slow motion type spectrum was observed, showing that the spin-label experiences considerable motional hindrance. The liquidlike behavior could be restored upon stirring the material in water. When the reaction is performed with a hydrothermal stage, the spectrum of SL1SiEt in the final product is the same as that of the room temperature synthesized material, but the addition of water did not restore the high mobility, due to a higher degree of silica cross-linking. The location of SL1SiEt throughout the formation process was obtained from electron spin-echo envelope modulation (ESEEM) measurements on MCM-41 prepared with CTAB deuterated either at the N-methyl or the alpha position and in a reaction carried out in D2O. Comparing the deuterium modulation depth, k(2H), induced by CTAB-alpha-d2, CTAB-d9, or D2O in CTAB micellar solutions of a number of reference spin probes with those of SL1SiEt revealed that the hydrolyzed SL1SiEt is located near the polar heads of the surfactant in the absence of base and TEOS. This supports the postulation of charge matching at the interface as a driving force for the formation of the mesostructure. Similar experiments carried out on reaction mixtures containing SL1SiEt showed a decrease of k(2H) from CTAB-alpha-d2 and CTAB-d9 compared to the micellar solution, exhibiting practically no time dependence. This indicates that the spin probe is pulled away from the micelle-water interface into the loosely linked, forming silica network. After drying, the modulation depth induced by CTAB-alpha-d2 and CTAB-d9 increases, showing that, once the water is removed, the silica walls contract around the micelles, pushing the silica-linked spin probe into the organic phase within the mesopores.  相似文献

The effect of water content on the physicochemical properties of the amorphous regions in cotton were investigated by measuring the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of TEMPOL nitroxide radicals, deposited in cotton at different loadings, as a function of the relative humidity (RH) and temperature. Three different components contribute differently to the experimental EPR spectra, corresponding to (a) mobile radicals absorbed in the bulk amorphous region, (b) slow moving radicals adsorbed on the crystallite surfaces in cotton, and (c) aggregated radicals. These components were analyzed by means of computer-aided simulations of the line shapes and simplified line width methods. Polarity and mobility parameters were extracted from the analysis of the spectra. For all loadings and temperatures, the polarity suddenly dropped when the water content fell below approximately 3 wt %, i.e., when water was removed from the bulk amorphous regions. At the lowest loading (2 x 10(-5) mol kg(-1)), the spectra were independent of the RH, and only mobile radicals were observed. At intermediate loading (10(-4)-10(-3) mol kg(-1)) both mobile (fast) and adsorbed (slow) moving radicals were present, the fraction of which depended on the RH. The mobility of the adsorbed and mobile radical signals was smaller at higher loadings, indicating microdomains of different character. The temperature dependence of the rotational correlation times provided the activation energies, which were much lower than in liquids. An equilibrium exists between the mobile and the adsorbed radicals. The temperature dependence of the equilibrium constant, K, gave the enthalpy and the entropy of the adsorption process. At low RH, the enthalpy and the entropy values indicated a simple adsorption process. At 10(-3) mol kg(-1), the values were independent of the RH, but at low loadings the values increased with the increase in the RH, which suggested a displacement of adsorbed water by the radicals at high water content. At loadings above 10(-3) mol kg(-1), signals from radicals strongly interacting via spin exchange were observed, which are assigned to aggregated radicals; simulation of the spectra gave an activation energy of 13 kJ mol(-1) for the spin exchange process. These effects are rationalized on the basis of microdomains of different character within cotton, reflecting the variation in pore sizes (0.5-8 nm) and the relaxation behavior of the cellulose chains.  相似文献

The mobility of spin probes having a secondary, tertiary, or quaternary amino group in dried nylon films was investigated by means of electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements and compared with the behavior of previously investigated spin probes having a primary amino group, a carboxylate group, or a sulfate group. The spin probes having a primary or secondary amino group showed effects of drawing on the mobility, while the other probe molecules did not. This result could be interpreted by considering the interactions between the spin probes and the nylon chains. In the undrawn nylon film, the mobilities of the nonionic spin probes were almost the same, and smaller than those of the charged spin probes, suggesting that the location in the nylon film is different for the uncharged and charged spin probes. These results are discussed in detail using separation of extrema of the ESR spectra, rotational correlation times, and anisotropy parameters.  相似文献

Hydrothermally stable and structrurally ordered mesoporous and microporous aluminosilicates with different pore sizes have been synthesized to immobilize cytochrome c (cyt c): MAS-9 (pore size 90 A), MCM-48-S (27 A), MCM-41-S (25 A), and Y zeolites (7.4 A). The amount of cyt c adsorption could be increased by the introduction of aluminum into the framework of pure silica materials. Among these mesoprous silicas (MPS), MAS-9 showed the highest loading capacity due to its large pore size. However, cyt c immobilized in MAS-9 could undergo facile unfolding during hydrothermal treatments. MCM-41-S and MCM-48-S have the pore sizes that match well the size of cyt c (25 x 25 x 37 A). Hence the adsorbed cyt c in these two medium pore size MPS have the highest hydrothermal stability and overall catalytic activity. On the other hand, the pore size of NaY zeolite is so small that cyt c is mostly adsorbed only on the outer surface and loses its enzymatic activity rapidly. The improved stability and high catalytic activity of cyt c immobilized in MPS are attributed to the electrostatic attraction between the pore surface and cyt c and the confinement provided by nanochannels. We further observed that cyt c immobilized in MPS exists in both high and low spin states, as inferred from the ESR and UV-vis studies. This is different from the native cyt c, which shows primarily the low spin state. The high spin state arises from the replacement of Met-80 ligands of heme Fe (III) by water or silanol group on silica surface, which could open up the heme groove for easy access of oxidants and substrates to iron center and facilitate the catalytic activity. In the catalytic study, MAS-9-cyt c showed the highest specific activity toward the oxidation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which arises from the fast mass transfer rate of reaction substrate due to its large pore size. For pinacyanol (a hydrophilic substrate), MCM-41-S-cyt c and MCM-48-S-cyt c showed higher specific activity than NaY-cyt c and MAS-9-cyt c. The result indicated that cyt c embedded in the channels of MCM-41-S and MCM-48-S was protected against unfolding and loss of activity. By increasing the concentration of the spin trapping agent, 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DMPO) in ESR experiments, we showed that cyt c catalyzes a homolytic cleavage of the O-O bond of hydroperoxide and generates a protein cation radical (g = 2.00). Possible mechanisms for MPS-cyt c catalytic oxidation of hydroperoxides and PAHs are proposed based on the spectroscopic characterizations of the systems.  相似文献

Ternary host–guest complexes have been first obtained from cucurbituril CB[8] as a host molecule and two guest molecules: nitroxyl probes of different structures and biologically important amino acids (AA) and aromatic compounds. To characterize the binding of the guests, parameters of the polarity of the environment and the rotational mobility of the spin probes have been used. These parameters have been shown to depend on the nature of the analytes. For the ternary complexes, in addition to the usual triplet ESR spectra from nitroxyl probes (S3), supramolecular ensembles consisting of three equivalent ternary complexes (“triads”) have been found, whose ESR spectra have a seven-component hyperfine structure (S7) due to delocalization of the unpaired electron over three nitrogen nuclei. The relative intensity of the S7 spectra increases with increasing NaCl concentration in the solution, and also depends significantly on the nature of the analyte and the spin probe. Quantum chemical calculations have shown that (1) to determine the stability of the complexes, it is necessary to allow for the van der Waals interaction, and (2) the complexes involving the zwitterionic form of AA are much more stable than those with the neutral form of AA.  相似文献

Pore-expanded MCM-41 (PE-MCM-41) silica exhibits a unique combination of high specific surface area (ca. 1000 m(2)/g), pore size (up to 25 nm) and pore volume (up to 3.5 cm(3)/g). As such, this material is highly suitable for the adsorption of large biomolecules. The current study focused primarily on the application of PE-MCM-41 material as suitable host for urease (nickel-based large metalloenzyme) in controlled hydrolysis of urea. Urease adsorbed on PE-MCM-41, regular MCM-41 and silica gel (SGA) were used as catalysts for urea hydrolysis reaction. Adsorption studies of urease on these materials from aqueous solution at pH 7.2 revealed that the adsorption capacity of PE-MCM-41 (102 mg/g) is significantly higher than that of MCM-41 (56 mg/g) and SGA (21 mg/g). The equilibrium adsorption data were well fitted using the Langmuir-Freundlich model. Furthermore, the kinetic study revealed that the uptake of urease follow the pseudo-first order kinetics. The in vitro urea hydrolysis reaction on pristine urease and different urease-loaded catalysts showed that the rate of hydrolysis reaction is significantly slower on U/PE-MCM-41 compared to that of bulk urease and urease on MCM-41 and SGA. This technique could be an alternative means to the use of urease inhibitors to control the ammonia release from urea fertilizer.  相似文献

Structural characteristics of synthesized ordered mesoporous silicas MCM-41, MCM-48 and SBA-15 were studied using XRD, nitrogen adsorption and FTIR methods. Pure water and mixtures with water/benzene and water/chloroform-d adsorbed onto silicas were studied by 1H NMR spectroscopy with layer-by-layer freezing-out of bulk and interfacial liquids. Concentrated aqueous suspensions of MCM-48 and SBA-15 were studied by thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) method. Benzene and chloroform-d can displace a portion of water to broad pores from the pore walls and from narrower pores, especially in the case of a large excess of an organic solvent. This process is accompanied by diminution of both interaction energy of water with an adsorbent surface and freezing temperature depression of adsorbed water. The effect of nonpolar benzene on pore water is much stronger than that of weakly polar chloroform-d. Modifications of the Gibbs-Thomson relation to describe the freezing point depression of mixtures of immiscible liquids confined in pores allow us to determine distribution functions of sizes of structures with unfrozen pore water and benzene. Chemically induced degradation of polystyrene (PSt) in the presence of 2,4,6-tri-chloronitrosobenzene (TCNB) as radical generator was investigated in benzene solution by means of the electron spin resonance (ESR) method. The ESR spectra observed after the addition of TCNB to PSt in benzene solution were assigned to the nitroxide radicals (spin adducts) of the PSt radicals,
,
and
. These assignments were deduced from comparisons between observed and computer simulated spectra and were supported by experiments using α-deuterated PSt. It was found by analyses of ESR spectra that two kinds of type (B) radicals were produced, which were different in local conformation. The radicals (A) and (B) were thought to be produced by hydrogen abstraction by the chlorinated phenyl radical which results from homolytic scission of the CN bond of TCNB on slight warming. On the other hand, it was concluded that β-scission of radical (A) results in the formation of the chain scission radical (C). The mechanism of degradation of PSt induced by TCNB as radical initiator is discussed, together with the decrease in molecular weight observed after the addition of TCNB to a PSt-benzene solution. From the decrease of molecular weight it is concluded that TCNB acts as a scission inducer.  相似文献

In the companion paper (J. Phys. Chem. B 2006, 110, jp0629487), a study of the conformational dynamics of methanethiosulfonate spin probes linked at a surface-exposed alpha-helix has been presented. Here, on the basis of this analysis, X-band ESR spectra of these spin labels are simulated within the framework of the Stochastic Liouville equation (SLE) methodology. Slow reorientations of the whole protein are superimposed on fast chain motions, which have been identified with conformational jumps and fluctuations in the minima of the chain torsional potential. Fast chain motions are introduced in the SLE for the protein reorientations through partially averaged magnetic tensors and relaxation times calculated according to the motional narrowing theory. The 72R1 and 72R2 mutants of T4 lysozyme, which bear the spin label at a solvent-exposed helix site, have been taken as test systems. For the side chain of the R2 spin label, only a few noninterconverting conformers are possible, whose mobility is limited to torsional fluctuations, yielding almost identical spectra, typical of slightly mobile nitroxides. In the case of R1, more complex spectra result from the simultaneous presence of constrained and mobile chain conformers, with relative weights that can depend on the local environment. The model provides an explanation for the experimentally observed dependence of the spectral line shapes on temperature, solvent, and pattern of substituents in the pyrroline ring. The relatively simple methodology presented here allows the introduction of realistic features of the spin probe dynamics into the simulation of ESR spectra of spin-labeled proteins; moreover, it provides suggestions for a proper account of such dynamics in more sophisticated approaches.  相似文献

The dynamic structure of the micelles of gemini (dimeric) alkylammonium surfactants with different lengths of hydrophobic radicals and polymethylene spacer differing in alkyl substituents of the head group and type of counterion are studied by ESR spin probe technique. The use of probes with different localization of spin moiety makes it possible to quantitatively characterize a decrease in micropolarity when going from the surface of micellar aggregates to the core and compare the dynamic structures of the micelles of dimeric and monomeric analogs.  相似文献

Free radicals produced either by γ or ultrasonic irradiation of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) in benzene solution were stabilized by spin trapping; they were identified by analysis of ESR spectra of the trapped radicals (the spin adducts). The radical species identified after γ-irradiation were methyl, ester (COOCH3), a pair of the chain scission radicals, ~CH2C(CH3)(COOCH3) and CH2C(CH3)(COOCH3)~, and phenyl radical originating from the solvent. The chain scission radicals were also detected by spin trapping after ultrasonic irradiation of the benzene solution. Taking account of the difference in the trapping rate for two spin trapping agents, 2,4,6-tri-t-butylnitrosobenzene (BNB) and penta-methyl-nitrosobenzene (PMNB) the radical species trapped by PMNB are assumed to be precursors of those trapped by BNB. Based on the radical species found by the spin trapping method, plausible degradation processes for PMMA in benzene solution are proposed.  相似文献

We used differential scanning calorimetry, neutron scattering, and proton NMR to investigate the phase behavior, the structure, and the dynamics of benzene confined in a series of cylindrical mesoporous materials MCM-41 and SBA-15 with pore diameters, d, between 2.4 and 14 nm. With this multitechnique approach, it was possible to determine the structure and, for the first time to our knowledge, the density of confined benzene as a function of temperature and pore size. In the synthesis of mesoporous molecular sieves of the type MCM-41, different cationactive surfactants and sources of silicon were used. Moreover, Al-MCM-41 samples with different content of aluminium were synthesized. MCM-41 and Al-MCM-41 were synthesized at elevated temperature in stainless-steel autoclaves. Prepared mesoporous molecular sieves were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), physical adsorption of nitrogen at the temperature of −197°C, sorption capacity of benzene, and by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Acidity was measured for Al-MCM-41 by temperature programmed desorption of ammonia (TPDA) and by FTIR of adsorbed pyridine. Acid catalytic activity of Al-MCM-41 was tested by isomerization of o-xylene. Influence of the synthesis reproducibility, surfactant used, source of silicon, synthesis time, source of aluminium, and Si to Al mole ratio on the properties of mesoporous molecular sieves were evaluated.  相似文献

This work is focused on the elaboration of methodology for adsorption characterization of porous silicas by using benzene adsorption isotherms measured on good quality MCM-41 materials. Three MCM-41 samples were synthesized by using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as silica source and surfactants, octyltrimethylammonium (C8), decyltrimethylammonium (C10) and cetyltrimethylammonium (C16) bromides as templates. A characteristic feature of this synthesis was relatively long hydrothermal treatment (5 days) at 373 K, which gave well ordered samples as evidenced by powder XRD analysis. Benzene adsorption isotherms measured on these MCM-41 samples were used to evaluate such standard quantities as the BET specific surface area, total pore volume, external surface area and the volume of ordered mesopores, and to obtain the statistical film thickness (t-curve) as well as the Kelvin-type relation, which describes the dependence between pore width and condensation pressure for benzene on silica at 298 K. The latter relations were incorporated into the Barrett-Joyner-Halenda algorithm to extend its applicability to calculate the pore size distributions from benzene adsorption data.  相似文献
