We consider approximations of an arbitrarymap F: XY between Banach spaces X and Y by an affine operator A: XY in the Lipschitz metric: the difference FA has to be Lipschitz continuous with a small constant ? > 0. In the case Y = ? we show that if F can be affinely ?-approximated on any straight line in X, then it can be globally 2?-approximated by an affine operator on X. The constant 2? is sharp. Generalizations of this result to arbitrary dual Banach spaces Y are proved, and optimality of the conditions is shown in examples. As a corollary we obtain a solution to the problem stated by Zs. Páles in 2008. The relation of our results to the Ulam-Hyers-Rassias stability of the Cauchy type equations is discussed.  相似文献

Let K be a subset of a Banach space X. A semigroup F = {?α ∥ α ∞ A} of Lipschitz mappings of K into itself is called eventually nonexpansive if the family of corresponding Lipschitz constants {kα ¦ α ? A} satisfies the following condition: for every ? > 0, there is a γ?A such that kβ < 1 + ? whenever ?β ? ?γF = {?gg?α ¦ ?α ? F}. It is shown that if K is a nonempty, closed, convex, and bounded subset of a uniformly convex Banach space, and if F:K → K is an eventually nonexpansive, commutative, linearly ordered semigroup of mappings, then F has a common fixed point. This result generalizes a fixed point theorem by Goebel and Kirk.  相似文献

In this paper, we definen-segmentwise metric spaces and then we prove the following results:
  1. (i)|Let (X, d) be ann-segmentwise metric space. ThenX n has the fixed point property with respect to uniformly continuous bounded functions if and only if, for any continuous functionF: C *(X) → C*(X) and for anyn-tuple of distinct points x1, x2, ?, xnX, there exists anhC *(X) such that $$F(h)(x_1 ) = h(x_1 ),i = 1,2,...,n;$$ whereC *(X) has either the uniform topology or the subspace product (Tychonoff) topology \((C^ * (X) \subseteq X^X )\) .
  2. LetX i (i = 1, 2, ?) be countably compact Hausdorff spaces such thatX 1 × ? × Xn has the fixed point property for allnN Then the product spaceX 1 × X2 × ? has the fixed point property. We shall also discuss several problems in the Fixed Point Theory and give examples if necessary. Among these examples, we have:
  3. There exists a connected metric spaceX which can be decomposed as a disjoint union of a closed setA and an open setB such thatA andB have the fixed point property andX does not have.
  4. There exists a locally compact metrizable spaceX which has the fixed point property but its one-point compactificationX + does not have the fixed point property.
Other relevant results and examples will be presented in this paper.  相似文献

Let U be any nontrivial primitive class of partial algebras, i.e. there existsA ∈ U with |A|≥2, and U is closed with respect to homomorphic images (in the weak sense), subalgebras (on closed subsets) and cartesian products of U-algebras, and let U f denote the—also nontrivial and primitive—class of all full U-algebras. Then every U-algebra with at least two elements is a relative algebra of some U f -algebra. For any U-algebraAsetU A =U i εI({i}×(A K i—domf i A )), where (K i) i εI is the type under consideration. Furthermore let F(N, U) denote any U-algebra U-freely generated by some setN (and let F (M, U f ) be similarly defined). Then for every nonempty setM there exists a setN satisfyingM ?N such that there exists a bijective mapping σ:U F(N, U)N ?M satisfying σ((i, α)) ? α(K i ) for all (i, α) ∈U F (N, U), and, for the structureg=(g i)iεI defined by ,g i : =f i F(N, U) ∪ {(α, σ((i, α))) | (i, α ∈U F(N, U)} id M induces an isomorphism betweenF(M, U f ), and (F(N, U)g).  相似文献

A Banach spaceX is aP λ-space if wheneverX is isometrically embedded in another Banach spaceY there is a projection ofY ontoX with norm at most λ.C(T) denotes the Banach space of continuous real-valued functions on the compact Hausdorff spaceT. T satisfies the countable chain condition (CCC) if every family of disjoint non-empty open sets inT is countable.T is extremally disconnected if the closure of every open set inT is open. The main result is that ifT satisfies the CCC andC(T) is aP λ-space, thenT is the union of an open dense extremally disconnected subset and a complementary closed setT Asuch thatC(TA) is aP λ?1-space.  相似文献

In the category of pointed topological spaces, let F be the homotopy fibre of the pinching map X?∪?CA?→?X?∪?CA?/?X from the mapping cone on a cofibration A?→?X onto the suspension of A. Gray (Proc Lond Math Soc (3) 26:497–520, 1973) proved that F is weakly homotopy equivalent to the reduced product (X, A). In this paper we prove an analogue of this phenomenon in a model category, under suitable conditions including a cube axiom.  相似文献

For X a compact Hausdorff topological space and F a strictly convex and reflexive Banach space we characterize the surjective isometries of certain subspaces of C(X, F). It follows from this characterization that surjective isometries on spaces of vector valued Lipschitz functions equipped with a p-norm are also weighted composition operators.  相似文献

Let C be a nonempty closed convex subset of a 2-uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space E and {A_n}_(n∈N) be a family of monotone and Lipschitz continuos mappings of C into E~*. In this article, we consider the improved gradient method by the hybrid method in mathematical programming [10] for solving the variational inequality problem for{A_n} and prove strong convergence theorems. And we get several results which improve the well-known results in a real 2-uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space and a real Hilbert space.  相似文献

Let F be a mapping from a metric space into the family of all m-dimensional affine subsets of a Banach space X. We present a Helly-type criterion for the existence of a Lipschitz selection f of the set-valued mapping F, i.e., a Lipschitz continuous mapping satisfying . The proof of the main result is based on an inductive geometrical construction which reduces the problem to the existence of a Lipschitz (with respect to the Hausdorff distance) selector SX(m) defined on the family of all convex compacts in X of dimension at most m. If X is a Hilbert space, then the classical Steiner point of a convex body provides such a selector, but in the non-Hilbert case there is no known way of constructing such a point. We prove the existence of a Lipschitz continuous selector for an arbitrary Banach space X. The proof is based on a new result about Lipschitz properties of the center of mass of a convex set.  相似文献

Denote by Δ(resp. Δ) the open (resp. closed) unit disc in C. Let E be a closed subset of the unit circle T and let F be a relatively closed subset of T ? E of Lesbesgue measure zero. The following result is proved. Given a complex Banach space X and a bounded continuous function f:FX, there exists an extension f? of f, bounded and continuous on \?gD ? E, analytic on Δ and satisfying sup{6f?(z)6:zεδ?E. This is applied to show that for any separable complex Banach space X there exists an analytic function from Δ to X whose range is contained and dense in the unit ball of X.  相似文献

Let A be a densely defined, closed linear operator (which we shall call maximal operator) with domain D(A) on a Banach space X and consider closed linear operators L:D(A)???X and ??:D(A)???X (where ?X is another Banach space called boundary space). Putting conditions on L and ??, we show that the second order abstract Cauchy problem for the operator A ?? with A ?? u=Au and domain D(A ??):={u??D(A):Lu=??u} is well-posed and thus it generates a cosine operator function on the Banach space X.  相似文献

We prove that for every n ∈ ? there exists a metric space (X, d X), an n-point subset S ? X, a Banach space (Z, \({\left\| \right\|_Z}\)) and a 1-Lipschitz function f: SZ such that the Lipschitz constant of every function F: XZ that extends f is at least a constant multiple of \(\sqrt {\log n} \). This improves a bound of Johnson and Lindenstrauss [JL84]. We also obtain the following quantitative counterpart to a classical extension theorem of Minty [Min70]. For every α ∈ (1/2, 1] and n ∈ ? there exists a metric space (X, d X), an n-point subset S ? X and a function f: S → ?2 that is α-Hölder with constant 1, yet the α-Hölder constant of any F: X → ?2 that extends f satisfies \({\left\| F \right\|_{Lip\left( \alpha \right)}} > {\left( {\log n} \right)^{\frac{{2\alpha - 1}}{{4\alpha }}}} + {\left( {\frac{{\log n}}{{\log \log n}}} \right)^{{\alpha ^2} - \frac{1}{2}}}\). We formulate a conjecture whose positive solution would strengthen Ball’s nonlinear Maurey extension theorem [Bal92], serving as a far-reaching nonlinear version of a theorem of König, Retherford and Tomczak-Jaegermann [KRTJ80]. We explain how this conjecture would imply as special cases answers to longstanding open questions of Johnson and Lindenstrauss [JL84] and Kalton [Kal04].  相似文献

LetX denote a linear space of real valued functions defined on a subset of a Banach space such thatX containsE′ the dual space ofE as a subspace. Given a distinguished vectorx 0 inE anx 0-value (onX) is defined to be a projectionP fromX ontoE′ which satisfies the following two hypotheses: (VA) (PF)(x0)=Fx0 for allF inX; (VB) IfT is a continuous isomorphism fromE intoE such thatTx 0=x 0 thenP(F?T) = (PF) ? T for allF inX. The existence and uniqueness of a value is established for two choices ofX, one of which is the space of polynomials in functional onE. The existence and partial uniqueness of a value is established on a third choice forX.  相似文献

We prove that ifX is a Polish space andF a face ofP(X) with the Baire property, thenF is either a meager or a co-meager subset ofP(X). As a consequence we show that for every abelian Polish groupX and every analytic Haar-null set Λ⊆X, the set of test measuresT(Λ) of Λ is either meager or co-meager. We characterize the non-locally-compact groups as the ones for which there exists a closed Haar-null setFX withT(F) meager, Moreover, we answer negatively a question of J. Mycielski by showing that for every non-locally-compact abelian Polish group and every σ-compact subgroupG ofX there exists aG-invariantF σ subset ofX which is neither prevalent nor Haar-null. The aim of this paper is to study Birkhoff integrability for multi-valued maps , where (Ω,Σ,μ) is a complete finite measure space, X is a Banach space and cwk(X) is the family of all non-empty convex weakly compact subsets of X. It is shown that the Birkhoff integral of F can be computed as the limit for the Hausdorff distance in cwk(X) of a net of Riemann sums ∑nμ(An)F(tn). We link Birkhoff integrability with Debreu integrability, a notion introduced to replace sums associated to correspondences when studying certain models in Mathematical Economics. We show that each Debreu integrable multi-valued function is Birkhoff integrable and that each Birkhoff integrable multi-valued function is Pettis integrable. The three previous notions coincide for finite dimensional Banach spaces and they are different even for bounded multi-valued functions when X is infinite dimensional and X∗ is assumed to be separable. We show that when F takes values in the family of all non-empty convex norm compact sets of a separable Banach space X, then F is Pettis integrable if, and only if, F is Birkhoff integrable; in particular, these Pettis integrable F's can be seen as single-valued Pettis integrable functions with values in some other adequate Banach space. Incidentally, to handle some of the constructions needed we prove that if X is an Asplund Banach space, then cwk(X) is separable for the Hausdorff distance if, and only if, X is finite dimensional.  相似文献

We shall introduce a new geometric constant A(X) of a Banach space X,which is closely related to the modulus of smoothness ρX(τ),and investigate it in relation with the constant A2(X) by Baronti et al.,the von Neumann–Jordan constant CNJ(X) and the James constant J(X).A sequence of recent results on these constants as well as some other geometric constants will be strengthened and improved.  相似文献
