The effects of thermal radiation and thermal buoyancy on the steady, laminar boundary layer flow over a horizontal plate is investigated. The plate temperature is assumed to be inversely proportional to the square root of the distance from the leading edge. The set of similarity equations is solved numerically, and the solutions are given for some values of the radiation and buoyancy parameters for Prandtl number unity. It is found that dual solutions exist for negative values of the buoyancy parameter, up to certain critical values. Beyond these values, the solution does no longer exist. Moreover, it is found that there is no local heat transfer at the surface except in the singular point at the leading edge. The radiation parameter is found to increase the local Stanton number.  相似文献

The steady mixed convection boundary layer flow over a horizontal circular cylinder, generated by Newtonian heating in which the heat transfer from the surface is proportional to the local surface temperature, is considered in this study. The governing boundary layer equations are first transformed into a system of non-dimensional equations via the non-dimensional variables, and then into non-similar equations before they are solved numerically using a numerical scheme known as the Keller-box method. Numerical solutions are obtained for the skin friction coefficient Re 1/2 C f and the local wall temperature θ w (x) as well as the velocity and temperature profiles with two parameters, namely the mixed convection parameter λ and the Prandtl number Pr.  相似文献

The influences of variable viscosity and buoyancy force on laminar boundary layer flow and heat transfer due to a continuous flat plate are examined. The deviation of the velocity and temperature fields as well as of the skin friction and heat transfer results from their constant values are determined by means of similarity solutions.  相似文献

Using the theory of micropolar fluids developed by Eringen, the transverse curvature effects on axisymmetric free convection boundary layer flow of a micropolar fluid past slender vertical cones are investigated. The case of constant surface heat flux is considered in this paper. Using perturbation techniques, the governing equations for momentum, angular momentum and energy have been solved numerically. Graphical representations for the velocity, angular velocity and thermal functions are presented for various physical and fluid property parameters.  相似文献

This paper considers the steady mixed convection boundary layer flow of a viscous and incompressible fluid near the stagnation-point on a vertical surface with the slip effect at the boundary. The temperature of the sheet and the velocity of the external flow are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation-point. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically by a shooting method. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered. The results indicate that for the opposing flow, the dual solutions exist in a certain range of the buoyancy parameter, while for the assisting flow, the solution is unique. In general, the velocity slip increases the heat transfer rate at the surface, while the thermal slip decreases it.  相似文献

The steady mixed convection boundary layer flow of a viscoelastic fluid over a horizontal circular cylinder in a stream flowing vertically upwards is numerically studied for both cases of heated and cooled cylinders. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into dimensionless forms using an appropriate transformation and then solved numerically using the Keller-box method. The comparison between the solutions obtained and those for a Newtonian fluid is found to be very good. Effects of the mixed convection and elasticity parameters on the skin friction and heat transfer coefficients for a fluid having the Prandtl number equal to one are also discussed. It is found that for some values of the viscoelastic parameter and some negative values of the mixed convection parameter (opposing flow) the boundary layer separates from the cylinder. Heating the cylinder delays separation and can, if the cylinder is warm enough, suppress the separation completely. Similar to the case of a Newtonian fluid, cooling the cylinder brings the separation point nearer to the lower stagnation point. However, for a sufficiently cold cylinder there will not be a boundary layer.  相似文献

Effects of Hall current on MHD free convection boundary layer flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid past a heated vertical flat plate of finite dimension in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field have been studied. An exact solution of the governing equations describing the flow has been obtained. The velocity field, induced magnetic field and bulk temperature distributions in the boundary layer flow have been discussed. It is found that the velocity components increase with an increase in Hall parameter. It is noticed that the induced magnetic field components are radically influenced by the Hall parameter. It is also found that the magnitude of bulk temperature in the x-direction decreases with an increase in either Hall parameter or magnetic parameter. On the other hand, the magnitude of the bulk temperature in the z-direction increases with an increase in Hall parameter whereas it decreases with an increase in magnetic parameter.  相似文献

The problem of Marangoni convection boundary layer flow that can be formed along the interface of two immiscible fluids when the wall is permeable, where there is suction or injection effect, is considered. Similarity equations are obtained through the application of similarity transformation techniques. The effects of suction/injection and radiation parameters on the heat transfer characteristics are numerically studied using the shooting method for a fixed value of the Prandtl number (Pr=0.7). Numerical results are obtained for the surface temperature gradient or the heat transfer rate as well as the temperature profiles for some values of the governing parameters. Comparisons with known results from the open literature show very good agreements. The results indicate that the heat transfer rate at the surface decreases as the radiation parameter increases. Further, results show that multiple (dual) solutions exist for a certain range of the governing parameters.  相似文献

Supersonic laminar flow past a two-dimensional “flat-plate/wedge“ configuration is numerically investigated. The pressures at the boundary layer separation and reattachment points are calculated over wide Mach and Reynolds number ranges. The minimum angles of the wedge surface inclination at which a return flow occurs are determined. The results are presented in the form of generalized Mach-number-dependences of the theoretical pressure on the wedge surface initiating boundary layer separation and the pressure at the boundary layer reattachment point.  相似文献

A boundary layer analysis is presented to study the effects of vectored surface mass transfer and induced buoyancy streamwise pressure gradients on heat transfer to a horizontal plate placed in a micropolar fluid. Numerical solutions of the transformed boundary layer equations are obtained for different values of the mass transfer, buoyancy and material parameters. A discussion is provided for the effects of the vectored surface mass transfer and the buoyancy force on the friction factor and heat transfer rate.

The problem of steady laminar mixed convection boundary layer flow of an incompressible viscous fluid along vertical moving thin needles with variable heat flux for both assisting and opposing flow cases is theoretically considered in this paper. The governing boundary layer equations are first transformed into non-dimensional forms. The curvature effects are incorporated into the analysis whereas the pressure variation in the axial direction has been neglected. These equations are then transformed into similarity equations using the similarity variables, which are solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The solutions are obtained for a blunt-nosed needle (m = 0). Numerical calculations are carried out for various values of the dimensionless parameters of the problem, which include the mixed convection parameter λ, the Prandtl number Pr and the parameter a representing the needle size. It is shown from the numerical results that the skin friction coefficient, the surface (wall) temperature and the velocity and temperature profiles are significantly influenced by these parameters. The results are presented in graphical form and are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Mixed convection boundary layer flows of non-Newtonian fluids over the wavy surfaces are studied by the coordinate transformation and the cubic spline collocation numerical method. The effects of the wavy geometry, the buoyancy parameter and the generalized Prandtl number for pseudoplastic fluids, Newtonian fluids and dilatant fluids on the skin-friction coefficient, local and mean Nusselt numbers have been graphically studied. Results show that both higher generalized Prandtl numbers and buoyancy parameters are seen to enhance the influence of wavy surfaces on the local Nusselt number, irrespective of whether the fluids are Newtonian fluids or non-Newtonian fluids. Moreover, the irregular surfaces have higher total heat flux than that of corresponding flats plate for any fluid.  相似文献

This paper discusses the natural convection boundary layer flow of a micropolar nanofluid over a vertical permeable cone with variable wall temperatures. Non-similar solutions are obtained. The nonlinearly coupled differential equations under the boundary layer approximations governing the flow are solved numerically using an efficient, iterative, tri-diagonal, implicit finite difference method. Different experimental correlations for both nanofluid effective viscosity and nanofluid thermal conductivity are considered. It is found that as the vortex-viscosity parameter increases, both the velocity profiles and the local Nusselt number decrease. Also, among all the nanoparticles considered in this investigation, Cu gives a good convection.  相似文献

Numerical and approximate analytic methods are used to investigate the three-dimensional nonself-similar swirling flow of a uniform gas on an axisymmetric permeable surface. For large values of the injection parameter (in the general case the injection velocity vector forms a nonzero angle with the vector of the outward normal to the flow surface) asymptotic expressions are obtained for the velocity and temperature profiles across the injection layer, the components of the friction stress and the heat flux at the surface. Certain results of a numerical solution of the problem obtained on a broad interval of variation of the injection parameter are presented. By comparing the numerical and asymptotic solutions the accuracy and region of applicability of the latter are estimated.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 6, pp. 28–37, November–December, 1985.In conclusion, the author wishes to thank É.  The steady mixed convection flow over a vertical wedge with a magnetic field embedded in a porous medium has been investigated. The effects of the permeability of the medium, surface mass transfer and viscous dissipation on the flow and temperature fields have been included in the analysis. The coupled nonlinear partial differential equations governing the flow field have been solved numerically using the Keller box method. The skin friction and heat transfer are found to increase with the parameters characterizing the permeability of the medium, buoyancy force, magnetic field and pressure gradient. However the effect of the permeability and magnetic field on the heat transfer is very small. The heat transfer increases with the Prandtl number, but the skin friction decreases. The buoyancy force which assists the forced convection flow causes an overshoot in the velocity profiles. Both the skin friction and heat transfer increase with suction and the effect of injection is just the reverse. Received on 21 May 1999  相似文献

Natural convection in a vertical porous bed heated from the side was investigated numerically for the case where mass transfer occurs between the bed and the surroundings. On the permeable part of the boundary we assign conditions of the first or second kind for the pressure, which corresponds to a free surface or a thin permeable skin. We obtained information about the structure and regimes of steady convection in the bed and the dependences of the mean and local heat-transfer characteristics on the Rayleigh number. The results are compared with the results of [1–3].Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 145–148, July–August, 1978.The author thanks V. I. The unsteady viscous flow over a continuously permeable shrinking surface is studied. Similarity equations are obtained through the application of similar transformation techniques. Numerical techniques are used to solve the similarity equations for different values of the unsteadiness parameter, the mass suction parameter, the shrinking parameter and the Prandtl number on the velocity and temperature profiles as well as the skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt number. It is found that, different from an unsteady stretching sheet, dual solutions exist in a certain range of mass suction and unsteadiness parameters.  相似文献
