In this paper we consider the problem of minimizing number of tardy jobs on a single batch processing machine. The batch processing machine is capable of processing up to B jobs simultaneously as a batch. We are given a set of n jobs which can be partitioned into m incompatible families such that the processing times of all jobs belonging to the same family are equal and jobs of different families cannot be processed together. We show that this problem is NP-hard and present a dynamic programming algorithm which has polynomial time complexity when the number of job families and the batch machine capacity are fixed. We also show that when the jobs of a family have a common due date the problem can be solved by a pseudo-polynomial time procedure.  相似文献

In the routing open-shop problem, jobs are located at nodes of an undirected transportation network, and the machines travel on the network to execute jobs in the open-shop environment. The machines are initially located at the same node (depot) and must return to the depot after completing all the jobs. It is required to find a nonpreemptive schedule that minimizes the makespan. We prove that the problem is NP-hard even on a two-node network with two machines, and even on a two-node network with two jobs and m machines. We develop polynomial-time approximation heuristics and obtain bounds on their approximation performance.  相似文献

We consider the minmax regret (robust) version of the problem of scheduling n jobs on a machine to minimize the total flow time, where the processing times of the jobs are uncertain and can take on any values from the corresponding intervals of uncertainty. We prove that the problem in NP-hard. For the case where all intervals of uncertainty have the same center, we show that the problem can be solved in O(nlogn) time if the number of jobs is even, and is NP-hard if the number of jobs is odd. We study structural properties of the problem and discuss some polynomially solvable cases.  相似文献

We consider a scheduling problem in which n jobs are grouped into F groups and are to be processed on a single machine. A machine setup time is required when the machine switches from one group of jobs to the other. All jobs have a common due date that needs to be determined. The objective is to find an optimal common due date and an optimal sequence of jobs to minimize the sum of the cost of tardy jobs and the cost related to the common due date. We consider two cases:
  • 1.(i) the jobs have to be processed in groups; and
  • 2.(ii) the jobs do not have to be processed in groups.
Analytical results are presented and computational algorithms are developed.  相似文献

We consider some problems of scheduling jobs on identical parallel machines where job-processing times are controllable through the allocation of a nonrenewable common limited resource. The objective is to assign the jobs to the machines, to sequence the jobs on each machine and to allocate the resource so that the makespan or the sum of completion times is minimized. The optimization is done for both preemptive and nonpreemptive jobs. For the makespan problem with nonpreemptive jobs we apply the equivalent load method in order to allocate the resources, and thereby reduce the problem to a combinatorial one. The reduced problem is shown to be NP-hard. If preemptive jobs are allowed, the makespan problem is shown to be solvable in O(n2) time. Some special cases of this problem with precedence constraints are presented and the problem of minimizing the sum of completion times is shown to be solvable in O(n log n) time.  相似文献

There are n jobs to be scheduled in a contaminated area. The jobs can be rescue, de-activation or cleaning works to be executed by a single worker in an area contaminated with radio-active or chemical materials. Precedence relations can be given on the set of jobs. An execution of each job can be preempted. However, the length of the minimal uninterrupted work period is given and it is the same for all jobs. Each work period for a job should be accompanied by a rest period whose length depends on the start time of the work period and its length. We focus on a short term planning problem. We show that this problem can be modelled by a scheduling problem with start time dependent job processing times. The dependency functions are exponentially decreasing ones. We also construct two polynomial time algorithms for the both cases—with and without precedence constraints.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of scheduling n jobs on m machines in an open shop environment so that the sum of completion times or mean flow time becomes minimal. For this strongly NP-hard problem, we develop and discuss different constructive heuristic algorithms. Extensive computational results are presented for problems with up to 50 jobs and 50 machines, respectively. The quality of the solutions is evaluated by a lower bound for the corresponding preemptive open shop problem and by an alternative estimate of mean flow time. We observe that the recommendation of an appropriate constructive algorithm strongly depends on the ratio n/m.  相似文献

Single-Machine Scheduling with Release Times and Tails   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We study the problem of scheduling jobs with release times and tails on a single machine with the objective to minimize the makespan. This problem is strongly NP-hard, however it is known to be polynomially solvable if all jobs have equal processing time P. We generalize this result and suggest an O(n 2 log nlog P) algorithm for the case when the processing times of some jobs are restricted to either P or 2P.  相似文献

We study a scheduling problem with deteriorating jobs, that is, jobs whose processing times are an increasing function of their start times. We consider the case of a single machine and linear job-independent deterioration. The problem is to determine an optimal combination of the due-date and schedule so as to minimize the sum of due-date, earliness and tardiness penalties. We give an O(n log n) time algorithm to solve this problem.  相似文献

Parallel machine scheduling is a popular research area due to its wide range of potential application areas. This paper focuses on the problem of scheduling n independent jobs to be processed on m identical parallel machines with the aim of minimizing the total tardiness of the jobs considering a job splitting property. It is assumed that a job can be split into sub-jobs and these sub-jobs can be processed independently on parallel machines. We present a mathematical model for this problem. The problem of total tardiness on identical parallel machines is NP-hard. Obtaining an optimal solution for this type of complex, large-sized problem in reasonable computational time by using an optimization solver is extremely difficult. We propose two meta-heuristics: Tabu search and simulated annealing. Computational results are compared on random generated problems with different sizes.  相似文献

We consider the problem of scheduling jobs on-line on a single machine and on identical machines with the objective to minimize total completion time. We assume that the jobs arrive over time. We give a general 2-competitive algorithm for the single machine problem. The algorithm is based on delaying the release time of the jobs, i.e., making the jobs artificially later available to the on-line scheduler than the actual release times. Our algorithm includes two known algorithms for this problem that apply delay of release times. The proposed algorithm is interesting since it gives the on-line scheduler a whole range of choices for the delays, each of which leading to 2-competitiveness.We also show that the algorithm is 2α competitive for the problem on identical machines where α is the performance ratio of the Shortest Remaining Processing Time first rule for the preemptive relaxation of the problem.  相似文献

In this paper, an integrated due date assignment and production and batch delivery scheduling problem for make-to-order production system and multiple customers is addressed. Consider a supply chain scheduling problem in which n orders (jobs) have to be scheduled on a single machine and delivered to K customers or to other machines for further processing in batches. A common due date is assigned to all the jobs of each customer and the number of jobs in delivery batches is constrained by the batch size. The objective is to minimize the sum of the total weighted number of tardy jobs, the total due date assignment costs and the total batch delivery costs. The problem is NP-hard. We formulate the problem as an Integer Programming (IP) model. Also, in this paper, a Heuristic Algorithm (HA) and a Branch and Bound (B&B) method for solving this problem are presented. Computational tests are used to demonstrate the efficiency of the developed methods.  相似文献

We consider supply chain scheduling problems where customers release jobs to a manufacturer that has to process the jobs and deliver them to the customers. The jobs are released on-line, that is, at any time there is no information on the number, release and processing times of future jobs; the processing time of a job becomes known when the job is released. Preemption is allowed. To reduce the total costs, processed jobs are grouped into batches, which are delivered to customers as single shipments; we assume that the cost of delivering a batch does not depend on the number of jobs in the batch. The objective is to minimize the total cost, which is the sum of the total flow time and the total delivery cost. For the single-customer problem, we present an on-line two-competitive algorithm, and show that no other on-line algorithm can have a better competitive ratio. We also consider an extension of the algorithm for the case of m customers, and show that its competitive ratio is not greater than 2m if the delivery costs to different customers are equal.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the problem of how to schedule n independent jobs on an m × m torus based network. We develop a model to to quantify the effect of contention for communication links on the dilation of job execution time when multiple jobs share communication links; we then design an efficient algorithm to schedule a set of n independent jobs with different torus size requirements on a given torus with an objective to minimize the total schedule length. We also develop a feasibility algorithm for pre-emptively scheduling a given set of jobs on a torus of given size with a given deadline. We provide analysis for both the algorithms.  相似文献

Mosheiov and Sidney (2003) showed that the makespan minimization problem with job-dependent learning effects can be formulated as an assignment problem and solved in O(n3) time. We show that this problem can be solved in O(nlog n) time by sequencing the jobs according to the shortest processing time (SPT) order if we utilize the observation that the job-dependent learning rates are correlated with the level of sophistication of the jobs and assume that these rates are bounded from below. The optimality of the SPT sequence is also preserved when the job-dependent learning rates are inversely correlated with the level of sophistication of the jobs and bounded from above.  相似文献

We propose a column generation based exact decomposition algorithm for the problem of scheduling n jobs with an unrestrictively large common due date on m identical parallel machines to minimize total weighted earliness and tardiness. We first formulate the problem as an integer program, then reformulate it, using Dantzig–Wolfe decomposition, as a set partitioning problem with side constraints. Based on this set partitioning formulation, a branch and bound exact solution algorithm is developed for the problem. In the branch and bound tree, each node is the linear relaxation problem of a set partitioning problem with side constraints. This linear relaxation problem is solved by column generation approach where columns represent partial schedules on single machines and are generated by solving two single machine subproblems. Our computational results show that this decomposition algorithm is capable of solving problems with up to 60 jobs in reasonable cpu time.  相似文献

We consider the single machine scheduling problem to minimize total completion time with fixed jobs, precedence constraints and release dates. There are some jobs that are already fixed in the schedule. The remaining jobs are free to be assigned to any free-time intervals on the machine in such a way that they do not overlap with the fixed jobs. Each free job has a release date, and the order of processing the free jobs is restricted by the given precedence constraints. The objective is to minimize the total completion time. This problem is strongly NP-hard. Approximability of this problem is studied in this paper. When the jobs are processed without preemption, we show that the problem has a linear-time n-approximation algorithm, but no pseudopolynomial-time (1 − δ)n-approximation algorithm exists even if all the release dates are zero, for any constant δ > 0, if P ≠ NP, where n is the number of jobs; for the case that the jobs have no precedence constraints and no release dates, we show that the problem has no pseudopolynomial-time (2 − δ)-approximation algorithm, for any constant δ > 0, if P ≠ NP, and for the weighted version, we show that the problem has no polynomial-time 2q(n)-approximation algorithm and no pseudopolynomial-time q(n)-approximation algorithm, where q(n) is any given polynomial of n. When preemption is allowed, we show that the problem with independent jobs can be solved in O(n log n) time with distinct release dates, but the weighted version is strongly NP-hard even with no release dates; the problems with weighted independent jobs or with jobs under precedence constraints are shown having polynomial-time n-approximation algorithms. We also establish the relationship of the approximability between the fixed job scheduling problem and the bin-packing problem.  相似文献

We consider a scheduling problem with two identical parallel machines and n jobs. For each job we are given its release date when job becomes available for processing. All jobs have equal processing times. Preemptions are allowed. There are precedence constraints between jobs which are given by a (di)graph consisting of a set of outtrees and a number of isolated vertices. The objective is to find a schedule minimizing mean flow time. We suggest an O(n2) algorithm to solve this problem. The suggested algorithm also can be used to solve the related two-machine open shop problem with integer release dates, unit processing times and analogous precedence constraints.  相似文献

We consider the problem of scheduling a set of dependent jobs on a single machine with the maximum completion time criterion. The processing time of each job is variable and decreases linearly with respect to the starting time of the job. Applying a uniform approach based on the calculation of ratios of expressions that describe total processing times of chains of jobs, we show basic properties of the problem. On the basis of these properties, we prove that if precedence constraints among jobs are in the form of a set of chains, a tree, a forest or a series–parallel digraph, the problem can be solved in O(n log n) time, where n denotes the number of the jobs.  相似文献

We study the coordinated scheduling problem of hybrid batch production on a single batching machine and two-stage transportation connecting the production, where there is a crane available in the first-stage transportation that transports jobs from the warehouse to the machine and there is a vehicle available in the second-stage transportation to deliver jobs from the machine to the customer. As the job to be carried out is big and heavy in the steel industry, it is reasonable assumed that both the crane and the vehicle have unit capacity. The batching machine processes a batch of jobs simultaneously. Each batch occur a setup cost. The objective is to minimize the sum of the makespan and the total setup cost. We prove that this problem is strongly NP-hard. A polynomial time algorithm is proposed for a case where the job transportation times are identical on the crane or the vehicle. An efficient heuristic algorithm for the general problem is constructed and its tight worst-case bound is analyzed. In order to further verify the performance of the proposed heuristics, we develop a lower bound on the optimal objective function. Computational experiments show that the heuristic algorithm performs well on randomly generated problem instances.  相似文献
