Robust D-stability analysis for linear discrete singular time-delay systems with structured and unstructured parameter uncertainties

In this paper, the robust D-stability problem (i.e. the robusteigenvalue-clustering in a specified circular region problem)of linear discrete singular time-delay systems with structured(elemental) and unstructured (norm-bounded) parameter uncertaintiesis investigated. Under the assumptions that the linear nominaldiscrete singular time-delay system is regular and impulse-free,and has all its finite eigenvalues lying inside a specifiedcircular region, a new sufficient condition is proposed to preservethe assumed properties when structured and unstructured parameteruncertainties are added into the linear nominal discrete singulartime-delay system. When all the finite eigenvalues are justrequired to locate inside the unit circle of the z-plane, theproposed criterion will become the stability robustness criterion.For the case that the linear discrete singular time-delay systemis only subject to structured parameter uncertainties, by anillustrative example, the presented sufficient condition isshown to be less conservative than the existing one reportedrecently in the literature.     

Sensitivity analysis for the generalized singular value decomposition

In this paper, we discuss the sensitivity of multiple nonzero finite generalized singular values and the corresponding generalized singular matrix set of a real matrix pair analytically dependent on several parameters. Robust H ∞ control for singular systems with time-varying uncertainties

In this paper, we investigate the problem of robust H _∞ control for singular systems with polytopic time-varying parameter uncertainties. By introducing the notion of generalized quadratic H _∞ performance, the relationship between the existence of a robust H _∞ dynamic state feedback controller and that of a robust H _∞ static state feedback controller is given. By using matrix inequalities, the existence conditions of robust H _∞ static state feedback and dynamic output feedback controllers are derived. Moreover, the design methods for such controllers are provided in terms of the solutions of matrix inequalities. Robust tensor completion using transformed tensor singular value decomposition

In this article, we study robust tensor completion by using transformed tensor singular value decomposition (SVD), which employs unitary transform matrices instead of discrete Fourier transform matrix that is used in the traditional tensor SVD. The main motivation is that a lower tubal rank tensor can be obtained by using other unitary transform matrices than that by using discrete Fourier transform matrix. This would be more effective for robust tensor completion. Experimental results for hyperspectral, video and face datasets have shown that the recovery performance for the robust tensor completion problem by using transformed tensor SVD is better in peak signal‐to‐noise ratio than that by using Fourier transform and other robust tensor completion methods.

Analysis of call centre arrival data using singular value decomposition

We consider the general problem of analysing and modelling call centre arrival data. A method is described for analysing such data using singular value decomposition (SVD). We illustrate that the outcome from the SVD can be used for data visualization, detection of anomalies (outliers), and extraction of significant features from noisy data. The SVD can also be employed as a data reduction tool. Its application usually results in a parsimonious representation of the original data without losing much information. We describe how one can use the reduced data for some further, more formal statistical analysis. For example, a short‐term forecasting model for call volumes is developed, which is multiplicative with a time series component that depends on day of the week. We report empirical results from applying the proposed method to some real data collected at a call centre of a large‐scale U.S. financial organization. On fourth-order boundary value problem with singular data

We consider a simply supported beam with restoring and external forces given as a sum of a continuous function and a Dirac delta distribution. We present sufficient conditions on these data in order to guarantee a unique positive or negative solution, respectively.     

On pth moment stabilization of hybrid systems by discrete-time feedback control

Since Mao initiated the study of stabilization of continuous-time hybrid stochastic differential equations (SDEs) by feedback controls based on discrete-time state observations in 2013, many authors have further studied and developed it. However, so far no work on the pth moment stabilization has been reported. This paper is to investigate how to stabilize a given unstable hybrid SDE by feedback controls based on discrete-time state observations, in the sense of H_∞, asymptotic and exponential stability in pth moment for all p > 1. The main techniques used are constructions of the Lyapunov functionals and generalizations of inequalities.     

Positive solutions for higher order singular p-Laplacian boundary value problems

Dead cores of singular Dirichlet boundary value problems with ϕ-Laplacian

The paper discusses the existence of positive solutions, dead core solutions and pseudodead core solutions of the singular Dirichlet problem (ϕ(u′))′ = λf(t, u, u′), u(0) = u(T) = A. Here λ is the positive parameter, A > 0, f is singular at the value 0 of its first phase variable and may be singular at the value A of its first and at the value 0 of its second phase variable. Defining systems and Newton-like methods for finding singular solutions to nonlinear boundary value problems

A technique proposed earlier for constructing defining systems, which are a means for finding singular solutions to nonlinear equations, and the Newton-like methods based on this technique are now analyzed from the point of view of their stability with respect to perturbations in the operator of the equation. The results obtained make it possible to extend this approach to nonlinear boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations.     

Existence of positive solutions for 2nth-order singular sublinear boundary value problems

This paper investigates the existence of positive solutions for 2nth-order (n>1) singular sub-linear boundary value problems. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of C2n−2[0,1] as well as C2n−1[0,1] positive solutions is given by constructing lower and upper solutions and with the maximal theorem. Hermitian‐type generalized singular value decomposition with applications

Existence and nonexistence results for a singular boundary value problem arising in the theory of epitaxial growth

The existence of stationary radial solutions to a partial differential equation arising in the theory of epitaxial growth is studied. It turns out that the existence or not of such solutions depends on the size of a parameter that plays the role of the velocity at which mass is introduced into the system. For small values of this parameter, we prove the existence of solutions to this boundary value problem. For large values of the same parameter, we prove the nonexistence of solutions. We also provide rigorous bounds for the values of this parameter, which separate existence from nonexistence. The proofs come as a combination of several differential inequalities and the method of upper and lower functions applied to an associated two‐point boundary value problem.
