We show that the Asplund property of Banach spaces is not only sufficient but also a necessary condition for the fulfillment of some basic results in nonsmooth analysis involving Fréchet-like normals and subdifferentials as well as their sequential limits. In this way we obtain new characterizations of Asplund spaces within the framework of nonsmooth analysis. Then we study several versions of smooth variational principles in Asplund spaces, provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of such principles, and establish their relationships with certain subdifferential properties of lower semicontinuous functions. 相似文献

We develop a generalized differentiation theory for nonsmooth functions and sets with nonsmooth boundaries defined in Asplund spaces. This broad subclass of Banach spaces provides a convenient framework for many important applications to optimization, sensitivity, variational inequalities, etc. Our basic normal and subdifferential constructions are related to sequential weak-star limits of Fréchet normals and subdifferentials. Using a variational approach, we establish a rich calculus for these nonconvex limiting objects which turn out to be minimal among other set-valued differential constructions with natural properties. The results obtained provide new developments in infinite dimensional nonsmooth analysis and have useful applications to optimization and the geometry of Banach spaces.

In this paper we study some properties of sets, set-valued mappings, and extended-real-valued functions unified under the name of “sequential normal compactness.” These properties automatically hold in finite-dimensional spaces, while they play a major role in infinite-dimensional variational analysis. In particular, they are essential for calculus rules involving generalized differential constructions, for stability and metric regularity results and their broad applications, for necessary optimality conditions in constrained optimization and optimal control, etc. This paper contains principal results ensuring the preservation of sequential normal compactness properties under various operations over sets, set-valued mappings, and functions. 相似文献

The extremal coefficients are the natural dependence measures for multivariate extreme value distributions. For an m-variate distribution 2m distinct extremal coefficients of different orders exist; they are closely linked and therefore a complete set of 2m coefficients cannot take any arbitrary values. We give a full characterization of all the sets of extremal coefficients. To this end, we introduce a simple class of extreme value distributions that allows for a 1-1 mapping to the complete sets of extremal coefficients. We construct bounds that higher order extremal coefficients need to satisfy to be consistent with lower order extremal coefficients. These bounds are useful as lower order extremal coefficients are the most easily inferred from data. 相似文献

In this paper, we establish strong laws for weighted sums of identically distributed negatively associated random variables.
Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund’s strong law of large numbers is extended to weighted sums of negatively associated random variables.
Furthermore, we investigate various limit properties of Cesàro’s and Riesz’s sums of negatively associated random variables.
Some of the results in the i.i.d. setting, such as those in Jajte (Ann. Probab. 31(1), 409–412, 2003), Bai and Cheng (Stat. Probab. Lett. 46, 105–112, 2000), Li et al. (J. Theor. Probab. 8, 49–76, 1995) and Gut (Probab. Theory Relat. Fields 97, 169–178, 1993) are also improved and extended to the negatively associated setting.

A certain class of weighted approximations, which extends the results of Masjed-Jamei [6] is introduced for integrable functions and some of upper bounds are obtained for the absolute value of the errors of such approximations in two L1[a, b] and L∞[a, b] spaces. As the main motivation for introducing the aforesaid class, it is shown that many new inequalities can be generated from the given error bounds. Some illustrative examples are presented in this sense.
