The main result of the papzer is that any planar graph with odd girth at least 10k−7 has a homomorphism to the Kneser graph G k 2 k +1, i.e. each vertex can be colored with k colors from the set {1,2,…,2k+1} so that adjacent vertices have no colors in common. Thus, for example, if the odd girth of a planar graph is at least 13, then the graph has a homomorphism to G 2 5, also known as the Petersen graph. Other similar results for planar graphs are also obtained with better bounds and additional restrictions. Received: June 14, 1999 Final version received: July 5, 2000  相似文献

Edge Coloring of Embedded Graphs with Large Girth   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Let G be a simple graph embedded in the surface of Euler characteristic ()0. Denote e(G), and g the edge chromatic number, the maximum degree and the girth of the graph G, respectively. The paper shows that e(G)= if 5 and g4, or 4 and g5, or 3 and g9. In addition, if ()>0, then e(G)= if 3 and g8. Acknowledgments. The authors would like to thank Dr. C.Q. Zhang for carefully reading several versions of this paper during its preparation and for suggesting several stylistic changes that have improved the overall presentation.  相似文献

A graph is called hypohamiltonian if it is not hamiltonian but becomes hamiltonian if any vertex is removed. Many hypohamiltonian planar cubic graphs have been found, starting with constructions of Thomassen in 1981. However, all the examples found until now had 4‐cycles. In this note we present the first examples of hypohamiltonian planar cubic graphs with cyclic connectivity 5, and thus girth 5. We show by computer search that the smallest members of this class are three graphs with 76 vertices.  相似文献

A proper vertex-colouring of a graph is acyclic if there areno 2-coloured cycles. It is known that every planar graph isacyclically 5-colourable, and that there are planar graphs withacyclic chromatic number a = 5 and girth g = 4. It is provedhere that a planar graph satisfies a 4 if g 5 and a 3 ifg 7.  相似文献

A graph is planar if it can be embedded on the plane without edge-crossings. A graph is 2-outerplanar if it has a planar embedding such that the subgraph obtained by removing the vertices of the external face is outerplanar (i.e. with all its vertices on the external face). An oriented k-coloring of an oriented graph G is a homomorphism from G to an oriented graph H of order k. We prove that every oriented triangle-free planar graph has an oriented chromatic number at most 40, that improves the previous known bound of 47 [Borodin, O. V. and Ivanova, A. O., An oriented colouring of planar graphs with girth at least 4, Sib. Electron. Math. Reports, vol. 2, 239–249, 2005]. We also prove that every oriented 2-outerplanar graph has an oriented chromatic number at most 40, that improves the previous known bound of 67 [Esperet, L. and Ochem, P. Oriented colouring of 2-outerplanar graphs, Inform. Process. Lett., vol. 101(5), 215–219, 2007].  相似文献

Let G=(V,E) be a graph with n vertices and e edges. The sum choice number of G is the smallest integer p such that there exist list sizes (f(v):vV) whose sum is p for which G has a proper coloring no matter which color lists of size f(v) are assigned to the vertices v. The sum choice number is bounded above by n+e. If the sum choice number of G equals n+e, then G is sum choice greedy. Complete graphs Kn are sum choice greedy as are trees. Based on a simple, but powerful, lemma we show that a graph each of whose blocks is sum choice greedy is also sum choice greedy. We also determine the sum choice number of K2,n, and we show that every tree on n vertices can be obtained from Kn by consecutively deleting single edges where all intermediate graphs are sc-greedy.  相似文献

An additive coloring of a graph G is an assignment of positive integers \({\{1,2,\ldots ,k\}}\) to the vertices of G such that for every two adjacent vertices the sums of numbers assigned to their neighbors are different. The minimum number k for which there exists an additive coloring of G is denoted by \({\eta (G)}\) . We prove that \({\eta (G) \, \leqslant \, 468}\) for every planar graph G. This improves a previous bound \({\eta (G) \, \leqslant \, 5544}\) due to Norin. The proof uses Combinatorial Nullstellensatz and the coloring number of planar hypergraphs. We also demonstrate that \({\eta (G) \, \leqslant \, 36}\) for 3-colorable planar graphs, and \({\eta (G) \, \leqslant \, 4}\) for every planar graph of girth at least 13. In a group theoretic version of the problem we show that for each \({r \, \geqslant \, 2}\) there is an r-chromatic graph G r with no additive coloring by elements of any abelian group of order r.  相似文献

A graph is f-choosable if for every collection of lists with list sizes specified by f there is a proper coloring using colors from the lists. We characterize f-choosable functions for block graphs (graphs in which each block is a clique, including trees and line graphs of trees). The sum choice number is the minimum over all choosable functions f of the sum of the sizes in f. The sum choice number of any graph is at most the number of vertices plus the number of edges. We show that this bound is tight for block graphs.Acknowledgments. Partially supported by a grant from the Reidler Foundation. A proper edge coloring of a graph is said to be acyclic if any cycle is colored with at least three colors. An edge-list L of a graph G is a mapping that assigns a finite set of positive integers to each edge of G. An acyclic edge coloring ? of G such that for any is called an acyclic L-edge coloring of G. A graph G is said to be acyclically k-edge choosable if it has an acyclic L‐edge coloring for any edge‐list L that satisfies for each edge e. The acyclic list chromatic index is the least integer k such that G is acyclically k‐edge choosable. We develop techniques to obtain bounds for the acyclic list chromatic indices of outerplanar graphs, subcubic graphs, and subdivisions of Halin graphs.  相似文献

A graph G is equitably k‐choosable if for every k‐list assignment L there exists an L‐coloring of G such that every color class has at most vertices. We prove results toward the conjecture that every graph with maximum degree at most r is equitably ‐choosable. In particular, we confirm the conjecture for and show that every graph with maximum degree at most r and at least r3 vertices is equitably ‐choosable. Our proofs yield polynomial algorithms for corresponding equitable list colorings.  相似文献

For a graph G, let be the maximum number of vertices of G that can be colored whenever each vertex of G is given t permissible colors. Albertson, Grossman, and Haas conjectured that if G is s‐choosable and , then . In this article, we consider the online version of this conjecture. Let be the maximum number of vertices of G that can be colored online whenever each vertex of G is given t permissible colors online. An analog of the above conjecture is the following: if G is online s‐choosable and then . This article generalizes some results concerning partial list coloring to online partial list coloring. We prove that for any positive integers , . As a consequence, if s is a multiple of t, then . We also prove that if G is online s‐choosable and , then and for any , .  相似文献

A graph is ‐colorable if its vertex set can be partitioned into r sets so that the maximum degree of the graph induced by is at most for each . For a given pair , the question of determining the minimum such that planar graphs with girth at least g are ‐colorable has attracted much interest. The finiteness of was known for all cases except when . Montassier and Ochem explicitly asked if d2(5, 1) is finite. We answer this question in the affirmative with ; namely, we prove that all planar graphs with girth at least five are (1, 10)‐colorable. Moreover, our proof extends to the statement that for any surface S of Euler genus γ, there exists a where graphs with girth at least five that are embeddable on S are (1, K)‐colorable. On the other hand, there is no finite k where planar graphs (and thus embeddable on any surface) with girth at least five are (0, k)‐colorable.  相似文献

choice number of a graph G is the minimum integer k such that for every assignment of a set S(v) of k colors to every vertex v of G, there is a proper coloring of G that assigns to each vertex v a color from S(v). It is shown that the choice number of the random graph G(n, p(n)) is almost surely whenever . A related result for pseudo-random graphs is proved as well. By a special case of this result, the choice number (as well as the chromatic number) of any graph on n vertices with minimum degree at least in which no two distinct vertices have more than common neighbors is at most . An acyclic edge coloring of a graph G is a proper edge coloring such that no bichromatic cycles are produced. The acyclic chromatic index of G is the smallest integer k such that G has an acyclic edge coloring using k colors. Fiamik (Math. Slovaca 28 (1978), 139–145) and later Alon et al. (J Graph Theory 37 (2001), 157–167) conjectured that for any simple graph G with maximum degree Δ. In this article, we confirm this conjecture for planar graphs of girth at least 4.  相似文献

A proper vertex coloring of a graph G is linear if the graph induced by the vertices of any two color classes is the union of vertex-disjoint paths. The linear chromatic number lc(G) of G is the smallest number of colors in a linear coloring of G. In this paper, we prove that if G is a planar graph without 4-cycles, then lc ${(G)\le \lceil \frac {\Delta}2\rceil+8}$ , where Δ denotes the maximum degree of G.  相似文献
