A novel solution cathode glow discharge (SCGD) induced vapor generation was developed as interface to on-line couple high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS) for the speciation of inorganic mercury (Hg(2+)), methyl-mercury (MeHg) and ethyl-mercury (EtHg). The decomposition of organic mercury species and the reduction of Hg(2+) could be completed in one step with this proposed SCGD induced vapor generation system. The vapor generation is extremely rapid and therefore is easy to couple with flow injection (FI) and HPLC. Compared with the conventional HPLC-CV-AFS hyphenated systems, the proposed HPLC-SCGD-AFS system is very simple in operation and eliminates auxiliary redox reagents. Parameters influencing mercury determination were optimized, such as concentration of formic acid, discharge current and argon flow rate. The method detection limits for HPLC-SCGD-AFS system were 0.67 μg L(-1) for Hg(2+), 0.55 μg L(-1) for MeHg and 1.19 μg L(-1) for EtHg, respectively. The developed method was validated by determination of certified reference material (GBW 10029, tuna fish) and was further applied for the determination of mercury in biological samples.  相似文献

An innovative method for the ultrasensitive detection of mercury by solution anode glow discharge atomic emission spectroscopy (SAGD-AES) coupled with hydride generation (HG) was first investigated. In this method, the mercury vapor generated by the HG was transmitted to the SAGD through the miniature hollow tungsten tube for excitation and detected by a miniaturized spectrograph. A thorough parametric evaluation of the HG and SAGD system was performed, including the type and concentration of carrier acid, He flow rate, concentrations of NaBH4, discharge current and discharge gap. Under optimal operating conditions, the detection limit for Hg2+ achieved 0.03 μg/L, with a relative standard deviation of 1.1% at the Hg2+ concentration of 5 μg/L. Moreover, the correlation coefficient of the calibration curve was 0.9996 in the range between 0.1 and 10 μg/L. The accuracy and practicability of HG-SAGD-AES were verified by measuring GBW09101b (human hair), GBW10029 (fish), soil and rice samples. The results showed good agreement with the certified values and values from direct mercury analyzer (DMA).  相似文献

In this work, the reduction of mercury ions (Hg2+) to elemental mercury (Hg0) was easily achieved using highly reductive carbon dots (r-CDs), which synthesized from sucrose by a simple and cost-effective method. After a careful mechanistic study, the reduction was probably accomplished with the large numbers of electrons contained in r-CDs rather than the oxidation of its functional groups. Additionally, a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay showed that the r-CDs were nontoxic to wildlife and human beings. Consequently, the r-CDs were used as an alternative to toxic reductants (SnCl2 or NaBH4) for the sensitive and in situ determination of mercury by cold vapor generation (CVG) coupled to a miniature point discharge optical emission spectrometer (μPD-OES). Limit of detection of 0.05 μg/L was obtained for Hg2+, with relative standard deviation (RSD) less than 5.4% at a concentration of 5 μg/L. The accuracy of r-CDs induced CVG-μPD-OES was validated by the determination of mercury in a certified reference material (DOLT-5, dogfish liver) and five natural water samples collected from different rivers and lakes in Chengdu City. Since r-CDs are nontoxic and prepared from abundant and inexpensive sucrose, the r-CDs induced CVG-μPD-OES retains the great potential for the inexpensive and environmentally friendly field analysis of mercury in natural water. The accuracy of the proposed method was validated by the analysis of a certified reference material and several water samples with satisfactory results.  相似文献

Low recovery rate and inconsistent measurements were found in the determination of mercury by method of cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometry using the hydride formation system (Hitachi HFS-2, Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo). To overcome this problem of insufficient reaction time we developed a simple T-joint device attaching to the commercial HFS-2 system for the determination of mercury in various biological tissues and sediment samples. The T-joint device was designed to combine sample and reductant injection which increased the reaction time of the sample allowing a complete formation of mercury vapor and speeding up the analysis process in comparison to the traditional cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometric method. Recoveries of mercury were in the range 95% - 100%. The corrected procedure gave precise and accurate readings with several certified reference materials: NIES No. 2 from the Japan Environment Agency; IAEA-356 from the International Atomic Energy Association, and DOLT-2, DORM-2, TORT-2, PACS-1 and MESS-2 from the National Research Council of Canada. Simple acid digestion methods were developed based on the sample Hg level and the nature of the sample. The sample detection limits were 0.0125 μg g−1 fresh weight and 0.0625 μg g−1 dry weight for biological samples, and as low as 0.0125 μg g−1 dry weight for sediment samples. These analytical protocols we established met the general requirements in environmental research and monitoring of mercury pollution.  相似文献

A new, miniaturized and low power consumption photochemical vapor generation (PVG) technique utilizing an ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV-LED) lamp is described, and further validated via the determination of trace mercury. In the presence of formic acid, the mercury cold vapor is favourably generated from Hg(2+) solutions by UV-LED irradiation, and then rapidly transported to an atomic fluorescence spectrometer for detection. Optimum conditions for PVG and interferences from concomitant elements were investigated in detail. Under optimum conditions, a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.01 μg L(-1) was obtained, and the precision was better than 3.2% (n = 11, RSD) at 1 μg L(-1) Hg(2+). No obvious interferences from any common ions were evident. The methodology was successfully applied to the determination of mercury in National Research Council Canada DORM-3 fish muscle tissue and several water samples.  相似文献

The present procedure is based on the sequential selective reduction of mercury(II) and methyl mercury using two gas–liquid separators in series. Cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry was used for detection. Mercury(II) is reduced by a 0.01% m/v sodium tetrahydroborate solution and driven to the absorption cell in the first separator. The methyl mercury species is reduced by the same reductant but at a 0.3% m/v concentration, and in the presence of iron(III) chloride. Parameters such as argon flow rate, and the NaBH4 and dithiophosphoric acid diacyl ester concentrations were optimized. At the optimized conditions, and using aqueous standards for calibration, the corresponding limits of detection (3σb, n=10) were 400 and 600 ng l−1 for mercury(II) and methyl mercury, respectively. The sample throughput was 12 h−1. The procedure was used for the determination of methyl mercury in dogfish liver and dogfish muscle certified reference materials, and good concordance between found and certified values was observed.  相似文献

Chemical vapor generation (CVG) coupled with non-dispersive atomic fluorescence spectrometry (NDAFS) has been widely used for determination of vapor-forming elements, but most of such works have been focused on single element analysis, and reports dealing with more than three elements simultaneous determination by CVG-NDAFS are rare. In this work, a sensitive and robust analytical procedure for the simultaneous determination of arsenic, antimony, bismuth and mercury in geological materials using vapor generation-four-channel non-dispersive atomic fluorescence spectrometry has been developed. The conditions of instrumentation and vapor generation of arsenic, antimony, bismuth and mercury were optimized. The optimized concentrations of KBH(4) and HCl required for analytes generation were 1.3% (m/v) and 20% (v/v), respectively. The interferences of coexisting ions and mutual hydride interferences were investigated carefully. One thousand milligrams per litre of Fe(3+); 500mgl(-1) of Pb(2+), Zn(2+), Mn(2+); 50mgl(-1) Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Cr(6+), Co(2+); 10mgl(-1) Ag(+) and 5mgl(-1) Au(3+) does not interfere with the determination of As, Sb, Bi and Hg. Associating a dilution of 1:250 (m/v) in the procedure of sample pretreatment, the tolerant concentrations of As, Sb, Bi and Hg in real geological materials are 2500, 1000, 250 and 5000ppm, respectively. Under optimal conditions, the detection limits for As, Sb, Bi and Hg were determined to be 0.068, 0.047, 0.037 and 0.008ngml(-1), respectively. The precisions for seven replicate determinations at the 5ngml(-1) of As, Sb, Bi and 1ngml(-1) of Hg were 0.47, 0.60, 0.97 and 0.93% (R.S.D.), respectively. Sample digestion was carried out on 500mg sample with 3ml HNO(3) and 10ml HCl, followed by addition of thiourea solution for the quantitative reduction of As(V), Sb(V) to As(III), Sb(III). The proposed method was successfully applied to the simultaneous determination of As, Sb, Bi and Hg in a series of certified geological reference materials using simple aqueous standard calibration technique. The results obtained are in good agreement with the certified values.

An on-line inorganic and organomercury species separation, preconcentration and determination system consisting of cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (CV-AAS or CV-ETAAS) coupled to a flow injection (FI) method was studied. The inorganic mercury species was retained on a column (i.d., 3 mm; length 3 cm) packed to a height of 0.7 cm with a chelating resin aminopropyl-controlled pore glass (550 A) functionalized with [1,5-bis (2 pyridyl)-3-sulphophenyl methylene thiocarbonohydrazyde] placed in the injection valve of a simple flow manifold. Methylmercury is not directly determined. Previous oxidation of the organomercurial species permitted the determination of total mercury. The separation of mercury species was obtained by the selective retention of inorganic mercury on the chelating resin. The difference between total and inorganic mercury determined the organomercury content in the sample. The inorganic mercury was removed on-line from the microcolumn with 6% (m/v) thiourea. The mercury cold vapor generation was performed on-line with 0.2% (m/v) sodium tethrahydroborate and 0.05% (m/v) sodium hydroxide as reducing solution. The determination was performed using CV-AAS and CV-ETAAS, both approaches have been used and compared for the speciation of mercury in sea food. A detection limit of 10 and 6 ng l(-1) was achieved for CV-AAS and CV-ETAAS, respectively. The precision for 10 replicate determinations at the 1 microg l(-1) Hg level was 3.5% relative standard deviation (R.S.D.), calculated from the peak heights obtained. Both approaches were validated with the use of two certified reference materials and by spiking experiments. By analyzing the two biological certified materials, it was evident that the difference between the total mercury and inorganic mercury corresponds to methylmercury. The concentrations obtained by both techniques were in agreement with the certified values or with differences of the certified values for total Hg(2+) and CH(3)Hg(+), according to the t-test for a 95% confidence level. It is amazing how this very simple method is able to provide very important information on mercury speciation.  相似文献

A sequential injection (SI) method for the determination of mercury via cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometry is presented. The method differs from flow injection (FI) cold vapor methods for the determination of mercury because of the simplicity of the system required for the method: one pump, one valve, a gas-liquid separator, and an atomic absorption spectrophotometer equipped with a quartz cell. Under optimal conditions, the method has the following figures of merit: a linear ¶calibration range of 1.0 to 20 μg L–1; a detection limit of 0.46 μg L–1; and a precision of 0.90% RSD (8 μg L–1). The procedure allows for a sampling rate of one injection per 80 s (excluding sample pretreatment). Results from the determination of mercury in water and fish specimens are also presented. The figures of merit of the method are compared to two other SI methods for the determination of mercury.  相似文献

The utility of the cylindrical silver‐based mercury film electrode of prolonged analytical application in stripping chronopotentiometry (SCP) was examined. This electrode allowed us to obtain good reproducibility of results owing to the special electrode design, which enables regeneration of the thin layer before each measurement cycle. The accessible potential window in KNO3 (pH 2), acetate and ammonia buffers was defined, and the optimal conditions (i.e., stripping current, deposition potential and deposition time) for the determination of Cd and Pb traces were selected. The detection limits, obtained for an accumulation time of 60 s, were 0.023 μg/L for Cd and 0.075 μg/L for Pb. The response increases linearly with Cd, Pb and Zn concentration, up to at least 100 μg/L. It was also shown that the proposed procedure ensures excellent separation of the In and Tl, Pb and Tl or the In and Cd signals. The method was tested with dolomite and lake sediment samples, and good agreement with reference values was achieved. The obtained results showed good reproducibility (RSD=5–6%) and reliability.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel automatic approach for the speciation of inorganic mercury (Hg(2+)), methylmercury (MeHg(+)) and ethylmercury (EtHg(+)) using multisyringe chromatography (MSC) coupled to cold-vapor atomic fluorescence spectrometry (CV/AFS) was developed. For the first time, the separation of mercury species was accomplished on a RP C18 monolithic column using a multi-isocratic elution program. The elution protocol involved the use of 0.005% 2-mercapthoethanol in 240 mM ammonium acetate (pH 6)-acetonitrile (99:1, v/v), followed by 0.005% 2-mercapthoethanol in 240 mM ammonium acetate (pH 6)-acetonitrile (90:10, v/v). The eluted mercury species were then oxidized under post-column UV radiation and reduced using tin(II) chloride in an acidic medium. Subsequently, the generated mercury metal were separated from the reaction mixture and further atomized in the flame atomizer and detected by AFS. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the limits of detection (3σ) were found to be 0.03, 0.11 and 0.09 μg L(-1) for MeHg(+), Hg(2+) and EtHg(+), respectively. The relative standard deviation (RSD, n=6) of the peak height for 3, 6 and 3 μg L(-1) of MeHg(+), Hg(2+) and EtHg(+) (as Hg) ranged from 2.4 to 4.0%. Compared with the conventional HPLC-CV/AFS hyphenated systems, the proposed MSC-CV/AFS system permitted a higher sampling frequency and low instrumental and operational costs. The developed method was validated by the determination of a certified reference material DORM-2 (dogfish muscle), and was further applied for the determination of mercury species environmental and biological samples.  相似文献

A slurry sampling hydride generation (SS-HG) method for the simultaneous determination of hydride forming elements (As, Sb, Se, Sn) and Hg, without total sample digestion, has been developed using batch mode generation system coupled with microwave induced plasma optical emission spectrometry (MIP-OES) from certified biological and environmental reference materials. Slurry concentration up to 3.6% m/v (particles < 80 μm) prepared in 10% HCl containing 100 μl of decanol, by the application of ultrasonic agitation, was used with calibration by the standard addition technique. Harsh conditions were used in the slurry preparation in order to reduce the hydride forming elements to their lower oxidation states, As(III), Sb(III), Se(IV) and Sn(II) and Hg, being reduced to mercury vapor, before reacting with sodium tetrahydroborate. An ultrasonic probe was used to homogenize the slurry in the quartz cup just before its introduction into the reaction vessel. For 10 ml of slurry sample, detection limits (LOD, 3σblank, peak area) of 0.06, 0.08, 0.15, 0.12 and 0.10 μg g− 1 were obtained for As, Sb, Se, Sn and Hg, respectively. The method offers relatively good precision (RSD ranged from 9 to 12%) for slurry analysis. To test the accuracy, three certified reference materials were analyzed with the analyte concentrations mostly in the μg g− 1 level. Measured concentrations are in satisfactory agreement with certified values for the biological reference materials: NRCC LUTS-1 (lobster hepatopancreas), NRCC DOLT-2 (Dogfish Liver) and environmental reference material: NRCC PACS-1 (Marine Sediment), all adequate for slurry sampling. The method requires small amounts of reagents and reduces contamination and losses.  相似文献

Methods have been developed for the preparation of samples containing organic matrices (natural high-color waters, soils, bottom sediments, aquatic organism tissue) to the determination of mercury and other toxic elements (As, Cd, Pb, Se) by different procedures of microwave digestion under elevated pressure (closed systems, vessels with partial removal of the gas phase). It is found that, under optimal oxidative and temperature-time conditions, the partial removal of the gas phase does not lead to losses of volatile elements if sample portions under 2 g are used. The duration of preparation of a series of samples does not exceed 40 min. The detection limits for mercury in the cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry and for Cd, Pb, As, and Se by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry are 5 and 0.13, 6, 13, and 13 μg/kg, respectively. The accuracy of determination is confirmed by the results of analysis of certified reference materials of water and plant materials and also by the standard addition method. The selected conditions of preparation of sludge samples have ensured the determination of mercury by the cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry in drinking, natural, and sewage waters with a detection limit of 0.07 μg/L.  相似文献
