Several iron(III) complexes with N-methylimidazole (N-MeIm) as the ligand have been synthesized by using N-MeIm as the solvent. Under anaerobic conditions, [Fe(N-MeIm)(6)](ClO(4))(3) (1) reacts with stoichiometric amounts of water in N-MeIm to afford the (mu-oxo)diiron(III) complex, [Fe(2)(mu-O)(N-MeIm)(10)](ClO(4))(4) (3). Exposure of a solution of 3 in N-MeIm to stoichiometric and excess CO(2) gives rise to the (mu-oxo)(mu-carboxylato)diiron(III) species [Fe(2)(mu-O)(mu-HCO(2))(N-MeIm)(8)](ClO(4))(3) (4) and the methyl carbonate complex [Fe(2)(mu-O)(mu-CH(3)OCO(2))(N-MeIm)(8)](ClO(4))(3) (5), respectively. Formation of the formato-bridged complex 4 upon fixation of CO(2) by 3 in N-MeIm is unprecedentated. Methyl transfer from N-MeIm to a bicarbonato-bridged (mu-oxo)diiron(III) intermediate appears to give rise to 5. Complex 3 is a good starting material for the synthesis of (mu-oxo)mono(mu-carboxylato)diiron(III) species [Fe(2)(mu-O)(mu-RCO(2))(N-MeIm)(8)](ClO(4))(3) (where R = H (4), CH(3) (6), or C(6)H(5) (7)); addition of the respective carboxylate ligand in stoichiometric amount to a solution of 3 in N-MeIm affords these complexes in high yields. Attempts to add a third bridge to complexes 4, 6, and 7 to form the (mu-oxo)bis(mu-carboxylato)diiron(III) species result in the isolation of the previously known triiron(III) mu-eta(3)-oxo clusters [[Fe(mu-RCO(2))(2)(N-MeIm)](3)O](ClO(4)) (8). The structures of 3, 4, 6, and 7 allow one, for the first time, to inspect the various features of the [Fe(2)(mu-O)(mu-RCO(2))](3+) moiety with no strain from the ligand framework.  相似文献

The use of a strategy combining ligand design and changes of reaction conditions has been investigated with the goal of directing the assembly of mononuclear, dinuclear, tetranuclear, and polymeric copper(II) complexes. As a result, closely related copper monomers, alkoxo dimers, and hydroxo cubanes, along with a carbonate-bridged polymeric species, have been synthesized using the rigid, aliphatic amino ligands cis-3,5-diamino-trans-hydroxycyclohexane (DAHC), cis-3,5-diamino-trans-methoxycyclohexane (DAMC), and the glutaryl-linked derivative glutaric acid bis-(cis-3,5-diaminocyclohexyl) ester (GADACE). The composition of the monomeric complex has been determined by X-ray crystallography as [Cu(DAHC)2](ClO4)2 (1), the two dimers as [{Cu(DAHC)(OMe)}2](ClO4)2.MeOH (2) and [{Cu(DAMC)(OMe)(ClO4)}2] (3), the three Cu4O4 cubanes as [{Cu(DAHC)(OH)}4](ClO4)(4).2.5MeOH (4), [{Cu(DAMC)(OH)}4](ClO4)4.H2O (5), and [{Cu2(OH)2(GADACE)}2]Cl4.2MeOH.6H2O (6), and an infinite-chain structure as [{Cu(DAHC)(CO3)}n] (7). Furthermore, the cubane structures 4 and 5 have been investigated magnetically. Our studies indicate that formation of the monomeric, dimeric, and tetranuclear DAHC and DAMC complexes can be controlled by small changes in reaction conditions and that further preorganization of the ligand moiety by linking the DAHC cores (GADACE) allows more effective direction of the self-assembly of the Cu4O4 cubane core.  相似文献

The mononuclear iron(III) complexes [Fe(LH2)(H2O)Cl](ClO4)2.2H2O (1) and [Fe(LH2)(H2O)2](ClO4)3.H2O (2) have been prepared by reacting [Pb(LH(2))](ClO4)2 with FeCl3.6H2O and Fe(ClO(4))(3).6H(2)O, respectively. Complex 2 upon treatment with 1 equiv of alkali produces the oxo-bridged dimer [{Fe(LH2)(H2O)}2(mu-O)](ClO4)4.2H2O (3). In these compounds, LH2 refers to the tetraiminodiphenol macrocycle in the zwitterionic form whose two uncoordinated imine nitrogens are protonated and hydrogen-bonded to the metal-bound phenolate oxygens. The aqua ligands of complexes 1-3 get exchanged in acetonitrile. Reaction equilibria involving binding and exchange of the terminal ligands (Cl-/H2O/CH3CN) in these complexes have been studied spectrophotometrically. The equilibrium constant for the aquation reaction (K(aq)) [1]2+ + H2O <==> [2]3+ + Cl- in acetonitrile is 8.65(5) M, and the binding constant (K(Cl)-) for the reaction [1]2+ + Cl- [1Cl]+ + CH3CN is 4.75(5) M. The pK(D) value for the dimerization reaction 2[2]3+ + 2OH- <==> [3]4+ + 3H(2)O in 1:1 acetonitrile-water is 9.38(10). Complexes 1-3 upon reaction with Zn(ClO4)(2).6H(2)O and sodium acetate (OAc), pivalate (OPiv), or bis(4-nitrophenyl)phosphate (BNPP) produce the heterobimetallic complexes [{FeLZn(mu-X)}2(mu-O)](ClO4)2, where X = OAc (4), OPiv (5), and BNPP (6). The pseudo-first-order rate constant (k(obs)) for the formation of 4 at 25 degrees C from either 1 or 3 with an excess of Zn(OAc)2.2H2O in 1:1 acetonitrile-water at pH 6.6 is found to be the same with k(obs) = 1.6(2) x 10(-4) s(-1). The X-ray crystal structures of 3, 4, and 6 have been determined, although the structure determination of 3 was severely affected because of heavy disordering. In 3, the Fe-O-Fe angle is 168.6(6) degrees, while it is exactly 180.0 degrees in 4 and 6. Cyclic and square-wave voltammetric (CV and SWV) measurements have been carried out for complexes 1-4 in acetonitrile. The variation of the solvent composition (acetonitrile-water) has a profound effect on the E(1/2) and DeltaE(p) values. The binding of an additional chloride ion to an iron(III) center in 1-3 is accompanied by a remarkable shift of E(1/2) to more negative values. The observation of quasi-reversible CV for complexes containing a Fe(III)-O-Fe(III) unit (3 and 4) indicates that in the electrochemical time scale unusual Fe(III)-O-Fe(II) is produced. The 1H NMR spectra of complexes 3-6 exhibit hyperfine-shifted signals in the range 0-90 ppm with similar features. The metal-hydrogen distances obtained from T(1) measurements are in good agreement with the crystallographic data. Variable-temperature (2-300 K) magnetic susceptibility measurements carried out for 3 and 4 indicate strong antiferromagnetic exchange interaction (H = -2JS1.S2) between the high-spin iron(III) centers in the Fe-O-Fe unit with J = -114 cm(-1) (3) and -107 cm(-1) (4).  相似文献

Multidentate naphthyridine-based ligands were used to prepare a series of diiron(II) complexes. The compound [Fe(2)(BPMAN)(mu-O(2)CPh)(2)](OTf)(2) (1), where BPMAN = 2,7-bis[bis(2-pyridylmethyl)aminomethyl]-1,8-naphthyridine, exhibits two reversible oxidation waves with E(1/2) values at +310 and +733 mV vs Cp(2)Fe(+)/Cp(2)Fe, as revealed by cyclic voltammetry. Reaction with O(2) or H(2)O(2) affords a product with optical and M?ssbauer properties that are characteristic of a (mu-oxo)diiron(III) species. The complexes [Fe(2)(BPMAN)(mu-OH)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))](OTf)(2) (2) and [Fe(2)(BPMAN)(mu-OMe)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))](OTf)(2) (3) were synthesized, where Ar(Tol)CO(2)(-) is the sterically hindered ligand 2,6-di(p-tolyl)benzoate. Compound 2 has a reversible redox wave at +11 mV, and both 2 and 3 react with O(2), via a mixed-valent Fe(II)Fe(III) intermediate, to give final products that are also consistent with (mu-oxo)diiron(III) species. The paddle-wheel compound [Fe(2)(BBAN)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(3)](OTf) (4), where BBAN = 2,7-bis(N,N-dibenzylaminomethyl)-1,8-naphthyridine, reacts with dioxygen to yield benzaldehyde via oxidative N-dealkylation of a benzyl group on BBAN, an internal substrate. In the presence of bis(4-methylbenzyl)amine, the reaction also produces p-tolualdehyde, revealing oxidation of an external substrate. A structurally related compound, [Fe(2)(BEAN)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(3)](OTf) (5), where BEAN = 2,7-bis(N,N-diethylaminomethyl)-1,8-naphthyridine, does not undergo N-dealkylation, nor does it facilitate the oxidation of bis(4-methylbenzyl)amine. The contrast in reactivity of 4 and 5 is attributed to a difference in accessibility of the substrate to the diiron centers of the two compounds. The M?ssbauer spectroscopic properties of the diiron(II) complexes were also investigated.  相似文献

A series of iron(III) complexes of the tetradentate ligand BPMEN (N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine) were prepared and structurally characterized. Complex [Fe(2)(mu-O)(mu-OH)(BPMEN)(2)](ClO(4))(3) (1) contains a (mu-oxo)(mu-hydroxo)diiron(III) diamond core. Complex [Fe(BPMEN)(urea)(OEt)](ClO(4))(2) (2) is a rare example of a mononuclear non-heme iron(III) alkoxide complex. Complexes [Fe(2)(mu-O)(mu-OC(NH(2))NH)(BPMEN)(2)](ClO(4))(3) (3) and [Fe(2)(mu-O)(mu-OC(NHMe)NH)(BPMEN)(2)](ClO(4))(3) (4) feature N,O-bridging deprotonated urea ligands. The kinetics and equilibrium of the reactions of 1 with ligands L (L = water, urea, 1-methylurea, 1,1-dimethylurea, 1,3-dimethylurea, 1,1,3,3-tetramethylurea, and acetamide) in acetonitrile solutions were studied by stopped-flow UV-vis spectrophotometry, NMR, and mass spectrometry. All these ligands react with 1 in a rapid equilibrium, opening the four-membered Fe(III)(mu-O)(mu-OH)Fe(III) core and forming intermediates with a (HO)Fe(III)(mu-O)Fe(III)(L) core. The entropy and enthalpy for urea binding through oxygen are DeltaH degrees = -25 kJ mol(-1) and DeltaS degrees = -53.4 J mol(-1) K(-1) with an equilibrium constant of K(1) = 37 L mol(-1) at 25 degrees C. Addition of methyl groups on one of the urea nitrogen did not affect this reaction, but the addition of methyl groups on both nitrogens considerably decreased the value of K(1). An opening of the hydroxo bridge in the diamond core complex [Fe(2)(mu-O)(mu-OH)(BPMEN)(2)] is a rapid associative process, with activation enthalpy of about 60 kJ mol(-1) and activation entropies ranging from -25 to -43 J mol(-1) K(-1). For the incoming ligands with the -CONH(2) functionality (urea, 1-methylurea, 1,1-dimethylurea, and acetamide), a second, slow step occurs, leading to the formation of stable N,O-coordinated amidate diiron(III) species such as 3 and 4. The rate of this ring-closure reaction is controlled by the steric bulk of the incoming ligand and by the acidity of the amide group.  相似文献

Isoelectronic oxo-bridged diiron(III) aquo complexes of the homologous tripodal tetradentate amino acid ligands, N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-3-aminoacetate (bpg(-)) and N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-3-aminopropionate (bpp(-)), containing [(H(2)O)Fe(III)-(mu-O)-Fe(III)(H(2)O)](4+) cores, oligomerise, respectively, by dehydration and deprotonation, or by dehydration only, in reversible reactions. In the solid state, [Fe(2)(O)(bpp)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2) (1(ClO(4))(2)) exhibits stereochemistry identical to that of [Fe(2)(O)(bpg)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2) (2(ClO(4))(2)), with the ligand carboxylate donor oxygen atoms and the water molecules located cis to the oxo bridge and the tertiary amine group trans to it. Despite their structural similarity, 1(2+) and 2(2+) display markedly different aggregation behaviour in solution. In the absence of significant water, 1(2+) dehydrates and dimerises to give the tetranuclear complex, [Fe(4)(O)(2)(bpp)(4)](ClO(4))(4) (3(ClO(4))(4)), in which the carboxylate groups of the four bpp(-) ligands act as bridging groups between two [Fe(2)(O)(bpp)(2)](2+) units. Under similar conditions, 2(2+) dehydrates and deprotonates to form dinuclear and trinuclear oligomers, [Fe(2)(O)(OH)(bpg)(2)](ClO(4)) (4ClO(4)) and [Fe(3)(O)(2)(OH)(bpg)(3)](ClO(4)) (5(ClO(4))), related by addition of 'Fe(O)(bpg)' units. The trinuclear 5(ClO(4)), characterised crystallographically as two solvates 5(ClO(4)).3H(2)O and 5(ClO(4)).2MeOH, is based on a hexagonal [Fe(3)(O)(2)(OH)(bpg)(3)](+) unit, formally containing one hydroxo and two oxo bridges. The different aggregation behaviour of 1(ClO(4))(2) and 2(ClO(4))(2) results from the difference of one methylene group in the pendant carboxylate arms of the amino acid ligands.  相似文献

The symmetrically ligated complexes 1, 2, and 3 with a (mu-oxo)bis(mu-acetato)diferric core can be one-electron oxidized electrochemically or chemically with aminyl radical cations [*NR3][SbCl6] in acetonitrile yielding complexes which contain the mixed-valent [(mu-oxo)bis(mu-acetato)iron(IV)iron(III)]3+ core: [([9]aneN3)(2FeIII2)(mu-O)(mu-CH3CO2)2](ClO4)2 (1(ClO4)2), [(Me3[9]aneN3)(2FeIII2)(mu-O)(mu-CH3CO2)2](PF6)2 (2(PF6)(2)), and [(tpb)(2FeIII2)(mu-O)(mu-CH3CO2)2] (3) where ([9]aneN3) is the neutral triamine 1,4,7-triazacyclononane and (Me3[9]aneN3) is its tris-N-methylated derivative, and (tpb)(-) is the monoanion trispyrazolylborate. The asymmetrically ligated complex [(Me3[9]aneN3)FeIII(mu-O)(mu-CH3CO2)2FeIII(tpb)](PF6) (4(PF6)) and its one-electron oxidized form [4ox]2+ have also been prepared. Finally, the known heterodinuclear species [(Me3[9]aneN3)CrIII(mu-O)(mu-CH3CO2)2Fe([9]aneN3)](PF6)2 (5(PF6)(2)) can also be one-electron oxidized yielding [5ox]3+ containing an iron(IV) ion. The structure of 4(PF6).0.5CH3CN.0.25(C2H5)2O has been determined by X-ray crystallography and that of [5ox]2+ by Fe K-edge EXAFS-spectroscopy (Fe(IV)-O(oxo): 1.69(1) A; Fe(IV)-O(carboxylato) 1.93(3) A, Fe(IV)-N 2.00(2) A) contrasting the data for 5 (Fe(III)-O(oxo) 1.80 A; Fe(III)-O(carboxylato) 2.05 A, Fe-N 2.20 A). [5ox]2+ has an St = 1/2 ground state whereas all complexes containing the mixed-valent [FeIV(mu-O)(mu-CH3CO2)2FeIII]3+ core have an St = 3/2 ground state. M?ssbauer spectra of the oxidized forms of complexes clearly show the presence of low spin FeIV ions (isomer shift approximately 0.02 mm s(-1), quadrupole splitting approximately 1.4 mm s(-1) at 80 K), whereas the high spin FeIII ion exhibits delta approximately 0.46 mm s(-1) and DeltaE(Q) approximately 0.5 mm s(-1). M?ssbauer, EPR spectral and structural parameters have been calculated by density functional theoretical methods at the BP86 and B3LYP levels. The exchange coupling constant, J, for diiron complexes with the mixed-valent FeIV-FeIII core (H = -2J S1.S2; S(1) = 5/2; S2 = 1) has been calculated to be -88 cm(-1) (intramolecular antiferromagnetic coupling) and for the reduced diferric form of -75 cm(-1) in reasonable agreement with experiment (J = -120 cm(-1)).  相似文献

Reaction of sodium perchlorate-crown ether derivative (LH2) complex [Na2LH2](ClO4)2 (1) with palladium acetate afforded two related compounds of macrocyclic palladium(II)-sodium(I) dimeric tetranuclear complexes, [Pd2Na2L2(mu-OH2)2](ClO4)2(CH2Cl2)3 (2) and [Pd2Na2(L-)2](CH3CN)2(C3H6O)2 (3) and their structures were characterised by IR, NMR, mass and X-ray analysis; the latter was revealed as an unusual metal-mediated electron delocalised complex.  相似文献

Reactions of Ln(OTf)3(Ln = Ce, Nd) or [U(OTf)3(dme)2](OTf = OSO2CF3, dme = dimethoxyethane) with 2 mol equivalents of 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine (terpy) in pyridine or acetonitrile led to the quantitative formation of the bis(terpy) complexes which crystallized as the discrete cation-anion pairs [M(OTf)2(terpy)2(py)][OTf] x 0.5py from pyridine or neutral derivatives [M(OTf)3(terpy)2] x nMeCN from acetonitrile (M = Ce, Nd, U). The crystal structures of these complexes show the differences in the M-O bond lengths to follow the variation of the ionic radii of the metals, while the U-N(terpy) and U-N(py) bonds are shorter than those expected from a purely ionic bonding model. The better affinity of terpy for U(III) over Ce(III) and Nd(III) was evidenced by the thermodynamic parameters (K, DeltaH, DeltaS) corresponding to the equilibrium between the bis- and tris(terpy) complexes in acetonitrile. Hydrolysis of the bis(terpy) compounds followed different courses; whereas the aquo compound [Ce(OTf)2(terpy)2(H2O)][OTf] crystallized readily from pyridine, the uranium complexes [UX2(terpy)2(py)]X (X = I, OTf) were oxidized into the tri- and tetranuclear mu-oxo U(IV) compounds [{UI(terpy)2(mu-O)}2{UI2(terpy)}]I4 x 2MeCN x H2O and [{U(OTf)(terpy)2(mu-O)(mu-OTf)U(terpy)}2(mu-OTf)2(mu-O)][OTf]4 x py x MeCN. The crystal structures of these first examples of uranium(IV) compounds with terpy ligands show the almost linear arrangement of the metal atoms.  相似文献

[Fe2(mu-O)(phen)4(H2O)2]4+ (1), one of the simplest mu-oxo diiron(III) complexes, quantitatively oxidises hydrazine to dinitrogen and itself is reduced to two moles of ferroin, [Fe(phen)3]2+ in presence of excess phenanthroline. The weak dibasic acid, 1 (pKa1= 3.71 +/- 0.05 and pKa2= 5.28 +/- 0.10 at 25.0 degrees C, I= 1.0 mol dm(-3)(NaNO3)) and its conjugate bases, [Fe2(mu-O)(phen)4(H2O)(OH)]3+ (2) and [Fe2(mu-O)(phen)4(OH)2]2+ (3) are involved in the redox process with the reactivity order 1 > 2 > 3 whereas N2H4 and not N2H5+ was found to be reactive in the pH interval studied 3.45-5.60. Cyclic voltammetric studies indicate poor oxidizing capacity of the title substitution-labile diiron complex, yet it oxidizes N2H4 with a moderate rate--a proton coupled electron transfer (1e, 1H+) drags the energetically unfavourable reaction to completion. The rate retardation in D2O media is substantially higher at higher pH due to the increasing basicity of the oxo-ligand in the order 3 > 2 > 1. Marcus calculations result an unacceptably high one-electron self-exchange rate for the iron center indicating an inner-sphere nature of the electron-transfer.  相似文献

Progress toward the development of functional models of the carboxylate-bridged diiron active site in soluble methane monooxygenase is described in which potential substrates are introduced as substituents on bound pyridine ligands. Pyridine ligands incorporating a thiol, sulfide, sulfoxide, or phosphine moiety were allowed to react with the preassembled diiron(II) complex [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(R))(2)(O(2)CAr(R))(2)(THF)(2)], where (-)O(2)CAr(R) is a sterically hindered 2,6-di(p-tolyl)- or 2,6-di(p-fluorophenyl)benzoate (R = Tol or 4-FPh). The resulting diiron(II) complexes were characterized crystallographically. Triply and doubly bridged compounds [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(3)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2-MeSpy)] (4) and [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(2-MeS(O)py)(2)] (5) resulted when 2-methylthiopyridine (2-MeSpy) and 2-pyridylmethylsulfoxide (2-MeS(O)py), respectively, were employed. Another triply bridged diiron(II) complex, [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(4)(-)(FPh))(3)-(O(2)CAr(4)(-)(FPh))(2-Ph(2)Ppy)] (3), was obtained containing 2-diphenylphosphinopyridine (2-Ph(2)Ppy). The use of 2-mercaptopyridine (2-HSpy) produced the mononuclear complex [Fe(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(2-HSpy)(2)] (6a). Together with that of previously reported [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(3)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2-PhSpy)] (2) and [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(3)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2-Ph(2)Ppy)] (1), the dioxygen reactivity of these iron(II) complexes was investigated. A dioxygen-dependent intermediate (6b) formed upon exposure of 6a to O(2), the electronic structure of which was probed by various spectroscopic methods. Exposure of 4 and 5 to dioxygen revealed both sulfide and sulfoxide oxidation. Oxidation of 3 in CH(2)Cl(2) yields [Fe(2)(mu-OH)(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(4)(-)(FPh))(O(2)CAr(4)(-FPh))(3)(OH(2))(2-Ph(2)P(O)py)] (8), which contains the biologically relevant {Fe(2)(mu-OH)(2)(mu-O(2)CR)}(3+) core. This reaction is sensitive to the choice of carboxylate ligands, however, since the p-tolyl analogue 1 yielded a hexanuclear species, 7, upon oxidation.  相似文献

A bis(mu-carboxylato)(mu-1,8-naphthyridine)diiron(II) complex, [Fe2(BPMAN)(mu-O2CPhCy)2](OTf)2 (1), was prepared by using the 1,8-naphthyridine-based dinucleating ligand BPMAN, where BPMAN = 2,7-bis[bis(2-pyridylmethyl)aminomethyl]-1,8-naphthyridine. The cyclic voltammogram (CV) of this complex in CH2Cl2 exhibited two reversible one-electron redox waves at +296 mV (DeltaE(p) = 80 mV) and +781 mV (DeltaE(p) = 74 mV) vs Cp2Fe+/Cp2Fe, corresponding to the FeIIIFeII/FeIIFeII and FeIIIFeIII/FeIIIFeII couples, respectively. This result is unprecedented for diiron complexes having no single atom bridge. Dinuclear complexes [Fe2(BPMAN)(mu-OH)(mu-O2CPhCy)](OTf)2 (2) and [Mn2(BPMAN)(mu-O2CPhCy)2](OTf)2 (3) were also synthesized and structurally characterized. The cyclic voltammogram of 2 in CH2Cl2 exhibited one reversible redox wave at -22 mV only when the potential was kept below +400 mV. The CV of 3 showed irreversible oxidation at potentials above +900 mV. Diiron(II) complexes [Fe2(BEAN)(mu-O2CPhCy)3](OTf) (4) and [Fe2(BBBAN)(mu-OAc)2(OTf)](OTf) (6) were also prepared and characterized, where BEAN = 2,7-bis(N,N-diethylaminomethyl)-1,8-naphthyridine and BBBAN = 2,7-bis[2-[2-(1-methyl)benzimidazolylethyl]-N-benzylaminomethyl]-1,8-naphthyridine. The cyclic voltammograms of these complexes were recorded. The M?ssbauer properties of the diiron compounds were studied.  相似文献

In this study benzyl and ethyl groups were appended to pyridine and aniline ancillary ligands in diiron(II) complexes of the type [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(R))(2)(O(2)CAr(R))(2)(L)(2)], where (-)O(2)CAr(R) is a sterically hindered terphenyl carboxylate, 2,6-di(p-tolyl)- or 2,6-di(p-fluorophenyl)benzoate (R = Tol or 4-FPh, respectively). These crystallographically characterized compounds were prepared as analogues of the diiron(II) center in the hydroxylase component of soluble methane monooxygenase (MMOH). The use of 2-benzylpyridine (2-Bnpy) yielded doubly bridged [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(2-Bnpy)(2)] (1) and [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(4)(-)(FPh))(2)(O(2)CAr(4)(-)(FPh))(2)(2-Bnpy)(2)] (4), whereas tetra-bridged [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(4)(4-Bnpy)(2)] (3) resulted when 4-benzylpyridine (4-Bnpy) was employed. Similarly, 2-(4-chlorobenzyl)pyridine (2-(4-ClBn)py) and 2-benzylaniline (2-Bnan) were employed as N-donor ligands to prepare [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(2-(4-ClBn)py)(2)] (2) and [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(2-Bnan)(2)] (5). The placement of the substituent on the pyridine ring had no effect on the geometry of the diiron(II) compounds isolated when 2-, 3-, or 4-ethylpyridine (2-, 3-, or 4-Etpy) was introduced as the ancillary nitrogen ligand. The isolated [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(2-Etpy)] (6), [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(3-Etpy)] (7), [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(4-Etpy)] (8), and [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(4)(-FPh))(2)(O(2)CAr(4)(-)(FPh))(2)(2-Etpy)(2)] (9) complexes all contain doubly bridged metal centers. The oxygenation of compounds 1-9 was studied by GC-MS and NMR analysis of the organic fragments following decomposition of the product complexes. Hydrocarbon fragment oxidation occurred for compounds in which the substrate moiety was in close proximity to the diiron center. The extent of oxidation depended upon the exact makeup of the ligand set.  相似文献

Reactions of the rhombic [MnII2 MnIII2 (hmp)6]4+ complex in acetonitrile with simple carboxylate ligands yield (i) three new isolated [Mn4] complexes, namely [Mn4(hmp)6(CH3COO)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2.4H2O (1), [Mn4(hmp)6(CCl3COO)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2 (2) and [Mn4(hmp)6(C6H5COO)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2.4CH3CN.2H2O (3) in the presence of either bulky carboxylate or of an excess of Mn(II) source; and (ii) two 1D arrangements of [Mn4] complexes connected through double syn-syn carboxylate bridges when using acetate and chloroacetate, namely {[Mn4(hmp)6(CH3COO)2](ClO4)2.H2O}n (4) and {[Mn4(hmp)6(ClCH2COO)2](ClO4)2.2H2O}n (5). The assembly of such building blocks can thus be controlled by an adequate choice of the bridging anion. As expected, the isolated [Mn4] complexes behave as Single-Molecule Magnets as shown by the study of their static and dynamic magnetic properties. Detailed magnetic studies both on polycrystalline samples and single crystals show that the chain compounds are isolated antiferromagnetic chains. The slow relaxation of their staggered magnetization has been studied thanks to finite-size effects induced by the intrinsic defects of the material  相似文献

The binuclear structure of Fe(2)(DTPB)(mu-O)(mu-Ac)Cl(BF(4))(2) (DTPB = 1,1,4,7,7-penta (2'-benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl)-triazaheptane, Ac = acetate) was characterized by UV-visible absorption and infrared spectra and NMR and ESR. The binding interaction of DNA with the diiron complex was examined spectroscopically. Supercoiled and linear DNA hydrolytic cleavage by the diiron complex is supported by the evidence from anaerobic reactions, free radical quenching, high performance liquid chromatography experiments, and enzymatic manipulation such as T4 ligase ligation, 5'-(32)P end-labeling, and footprinting analysis. The estimation of rate for the supercoiled DNA double strand cleavage shows one of the largest known rate enhancement factors, approximately 10(10) against DNA. Moreover, the DNA hydrolysis chemistry needs no coreactant such as hydrogen peroxide. The poor sequence-specific DNA cleavage indicated by the restriction analysis of the pBR322 DNA linearized by the diiron complex might be due to the diiron complex bound to DNA by a coordination of its two ferric ions to the DNA phosphate oxygens, as suggested by spectral characterizations. The hydrolysis chemistry for a variety of binuclear metal complexes including Fe(2)(DTPB)(mu-O)(mu-Ac)Cl(BF(4))(2) is compared. It is established that the dominant factors for the DNA hydrolysis activities of the binuclear metal complexes are the mu-oxo bridge, labile and anionic ligands, and open coordination site(s). Concerning the hydrolytic mechanisms, the diiron complex Fe(2)(DTPB)(mu-O)(mu-Ac)Cl(BF(4))(2) might share many points in common with the native purple acid phosphatases.  相似文献

General synthetic routes are described for a series of diiron(II) complexes supported by sterically demanding carboxylate ligands 2,6-di(p-tolyl)benzoate (Ar(Tol)CO(2)(-)) and 2,6-di(4-fluorophenyl)benzoate (Ar(4-FPh)CO(2)(-)). The interlocking nature of the m-terphenyl units in self-assembled [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)(O(2)CAr(Tol))(2)L(2)] (L = C(5)H(5)N (4); 1-MeIm (5)) promotes the formation of coordination geometries analogous to those of the non-heme diiron cores in the enzymes RNR-R2 and Delta 9D. Magnetic susceptibility and M?ssbauer studies of 4 and 5 revealed properties consistent with weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the high-spin iron(II) centers. Structural studies of several derivatives obtained by ligand substitution reactions demonstrated that the [Fe(2)(O(2)CAr')(4)L(2)] (Ar' = Ar(Tol); Ar(4-FPh)) module is geometrically flexible. Details of ligand migration within the tetracarboxylate diiron core, facilitated by carboxylate shifts, were probed by solution variable-temperature (19)F NMR spectroscopic studies of [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(4-FPh))(2)-(O(2)CAr(4-FPh))(2)(THF)(2)] (8) and [Fe(2)(mu-O(2)CAr(4-FPh))(4)(4-(t)BuC(5)H(4)N)(2)] (12). Dynamic motion in the primary coordination sphere controls the positioning of open sites and regulates the access of exogenous ligands, processes that also occur in non-heme diiron enzymes during catalysis.  相似文献

Using a set of pyrazolate-based dinucleating ligands with thioether sidearms and a set of different carboxylates, seven tetranuclear nickel(II) complexes of types [L2Ni4(N3)3(O2CR)2](ClO4) (1) and [L2Ni4(N3)(O2CR)4](ClO4) (2) featuring an unprecedented central mu4-1,1,3,3-azide could be isolated and fully characterized. X-ray crystal structures are discussed for 1a,b,e and 2b. The mu4-1,1,3,3-azide is symmetric in all cases except 1a but exhibits distinct binding modes with significantly different Ni-N(azide)-Ni angles and Ni-NNN-Ni torsions in type 1 and 2 complexes, which indicates high structural flexibility of this novel bridging unit. Also, IR-spectroscopic signatures and magnetic properties are distinct for type 1 and 2 complexes. Magnetic data for 1a,b,d,e and 2a,b were investigated and analyzed in a three-J approach. The only model that gave a satisfactory fit for all type 1 complexes includes one dominant antiferromagnetic coupling and two ferromagnetic interactions (one large and one smaller), indicating some degree of frustration. On the basis of magneto-structural correlations for end-on and end-to-end azide linkages, it is reasonable to assign the antiferromagnetic interaction to the intradimer exchange along the pyrazolate and the end-to-end linkage of the mu4-azide. Overall, the magnitude of the coupling constants differs significantly for the two distinct types of compounds, 1 or 2, and depends on the individual geometric details of the Ni4 array and the mu4-1,1,3,3-azide.  相似文献

We report a series of oligonuclear carboxylate-rich high-spin ironII complexes with three different [FeIIn(mu-O2Cbiph)2n(L)m] (n = 2-4; m = 2 or 4) structural motifs, where -O2Cbiph is 2-biphenylcarboxylate and L is an exogenous ligand bound to terminal iron atoms. Solid compounds were isolated and their structural, spectroscopic, and magnetic properties thoroughly investigated. The discrete tetranuclear complexes [Fe4(mu-O2Cbiph)8(L)2] crystallize in a planar tetraironII motif in which two diiron paddlewheel units are linked in an unprecedented manner involving a mu3-1,1,3-bridging mode. X-ray crystallography reveals average Fe-Oanti bond lengths of 2.081[2] A at the dimer-dimer interface. Terminal axial positions are capped by ligands L, where L is tetrahydrofuran (THF) (1), indazole (2), pyrazole (3), 3,5-dimethylpyrazole (4), or acetamide (5). Reaction of 1 with an excess of acetonitrile affords the linear compound [Fe3(mu-O2Cbiph)6(MeCN)4] (6). The acetonitrile ligands in 6 can be replaced by THF or dimethoxyethane at elevated temperatures with retention of the structure to afford 7 and 8, respectively. Reaction of 1 or 6 with pyridine or 1-methylimidazole results in the isolation of paddlewheel dimers 9 and 10, respectively, with [Fe2(mu-O2Cbiph)4(L)2] composition. M?ssbauer spectroscopy confirms the presence of high-spin ferrous ions and indicates that the two iron sites of the dimer are geometrically indistinguishable. For the tri- and tetrairon compounds, two quadrupole doublets are observed, suggesting that the iron centers do not have identical geometries. Plots of magnetic susceptibility versus temperature reveal intramolecular antiferromagnetic exchange coupling for all complexes under study. The magnetic data were fit to a theoretical model incorporating exchange coupling, single-ion zero-field splitting, and g-tensor anisotropy. The resulting magnetic parameters reveal in most cases weak antiferromagnetic exchange coupling (J typically <3 cm(-1)) and dominant zero-field-splitting parameters.  相似文献

A time-resolved mass spectrometric technique has been used for the determination of rates of exchange of mu-O atoms with water for the complexes [(mes-terpy)2Mn2(III/IV)(mu-O)2(H2O)2](NO3)3 (1, mes-terpy = 4'-mesityl-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine), [(bpy)4Mn2(III/IV)(mu-O)2](ClO4)3 (2, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine), [(phen)4Mn2(III/IV)(mu-O)2](ClO4)3 (3, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), [(bpea)2Mn2(III/IV)(mu-O)2(mu-OAc)](ClO4)2 (4, bpea = bis(2-pyridyl)ethylamine), [(bpea)2Mn2(IV/IV)(mu-O)2(mu-OAc)](ClO4)3 (4ox), [(terpy)4Mn4(IV/IV/IV/IV)(mu-O)5(H2O)2](ClO4)6 (5, terpy = 2,2':6',2'-terpyridine), and [(tacn)4Mn4(IV/IV/IV/IV)(mu-O)6]Br(3.5)(OH)0.5.6H2O (6, tacn = 1,4,7-triazacyclononane). The rate of exchange of mu-OAc bridges with free acetate in solution has been measured for complexes 4 and 4ox. These are the first measurements of rates of ligand exchange on biologically relevant high-valent Mn complexes. The data analysis method developed here is of general utility in the quantitation of isotope exchange processes by mass spectrometry. We find that the presence of labile coordination sites on Mn increases mu-O exchange rates, and that all-Mn(IV) states are more inert toward exchange than mixed Mn(III)-Mn(IV) states. The rates of mu-O exchange obtained in this work for a di-mu-oxo Mn2(III/IV) dimer with labile coordination sites are compared with the oxygen isotope incorporation rates from substrate water to evolved dioxygen measured in different S states of the oxygen evolving complex (OEC) of photosystem II (PSII). On the basis of this comparison, we propose that both substrate waters are not bound as mu-O bridges between Mn atoms in the S2 and S3 states of the OEC.  相似文献
