This study examined the association between acoustic and perceptual data related to vibrato in Western operatic singing using recordings of performances by internationally famous opera singers. Three related studies were conducted. Study 1 used commercial recordings of the same five singers and the same cadenza examined by Siegwart and Scherer(1), measured vibrato rate and extent in each singer's performance of the cadenza and tested possible associations between these vibrato attributes and judges' preference for singers. Studies 2 and 3, using recordings of different internationally famous singers and a different cadenza, measured vibrato onset, rate, and extent in each singer's performance of the cadenza, required judges to rank the singers in order of personal preference, to identify the emotion expressed, and to assess the degree of success in communicating emotion achieved by the singer. The findings showed that the perception of the singers' vibrato did not always agree with acoustic measurements. However, a comparison of the acoustic measurements with the preference and emotion judgments suggest that some elements of vibrato may affect listeners' perception of the voice, their preference for a particular singer, and assist the communication of emotion between singer and audience.  相似文献

Two vocal qualities, ringquality and pressed quality, were analyzed perceptually. Listeners were asked to rate (on a scale from 0 to 10) the “amount of ring” in one listening and the “amount of pressedness” in another listening. The stimulus was the synthesized utterance /ya-ya-ya-ya-ya/. In the continuum representation of ring, the skewing quotient and the cross section of the epilaryngeal tube area were systematically varied, independently and by a covariation rule. In the continuum representation of pressed, the flow amplitude and open quotient were similarly varied. Results indicated that the crossover point between ring and no ring occurred with an epilaryngeal area of around 1.0 cm2, and the crossover point between pressed and not pressed quality occurred at an open quotient of about 0.4. Fundamental frequency also had an effect on the perceptions, with a higher fundamental frequency receiving higher ratings of ring and pressed for otherwise the same parameters. Listeners demonstrated highly variable perceptions in both continua with poor intersubject, intrasubject, and intergroup reliability.  相似文献

The car interior is becoming quieter and other sounds are now exposed to user perception, such as the sound produced by interface buttons when actuated. So, the functional role of the button sound on interface operation and its aesthetic and emotional role on the user experience are now more important than before. However, little research and design effort has been paid to understand how to design buttons that produce a pleasant sound. Moreover, the button’s sound requirements received by interface manufacturers are ill-defined, insufficient or even inexistent, and consequently their conversion into specifications for manufacturing is problematic and leads to long and costly development processes. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to identify relevant acoustic parameters that explain the users sound preferences. Data on preference subjective judgments were collected and buttons acoustic signals were measured allowing the development of preference models based on partial least squares regression and neural networks methods. The former was successful in selecting the relevant parameters to describe the preference ratings of the buttons sound. The later, dealing with the non-linear nature of acoustic perception, was able to predict preferences based on the relevant parameters.  相似文献

A solid-matrix-embedded spherical nanoparticle has acoustic vibrational frequencies which are shifted and damped relative to modes of a free sphere. Not only the longitudinal plane wave acoustic impedances, but also the Poisson ratios of nanoparticle and matrix are important in determining the Q-factor of the “breathing” mode, for which frequencies and Q-factors with different material combinations are presented. There is a commonly perceived difference in the sound produced in the approximate range D4-D5 by female singers in the western opera and concert tradition, on the one hand, and certain other styles, including rock, pop, folk, and some Broadway musicals, on the other. The term “belting” is sometimes used to refer to at least one approach to such “nonclassical” singing. In this study, based on spectrographic, electroglottographic, and sub- and supraglottal pressure measurements on representative voices of the “operatic” and “nonclassical” tradition, acoustic and laryngeal differences between the two traditions are described, and an objective, specific definition of “belting” is offered.  相似文献

The unique approach for search and unambiguous identification of short-lived (T1/2=103–107 years) superheavy nuclei in cosmic-ray products of the recent nucleosynthesis in our Galaxy are discussed.It is based on: (a) the ability of non-conducting crystals to register and to store for many million years the tracks due to fast nuclei with atomic number Z20 (“fossil” tracks);(b) calibrations of the said crystals with accelerated heavy ions (20Z92) and on revealing the volume etchable track length (VETL) of the fast nuclei coming to rest inside crystals—both of fossil and “fresh” tracks—to determine the charge distribution of cosmic-ray nuclei tracks and(c) the so-called “four-zone” model of tracks in crystals (and also glasses) which provides not only the VETL track length dependence for 20Z92 nuclei but also demonstrates the regular annealing behavior of VETL of 20Z92 nuclei in a broad temperature interval.This approach was first applied in the early 1980s to investigate the “fossil” tracks due to 22Z92 cosmic-ray nuclei in olivine crystals from meteorites-pallasite Marjalahti and Eagle Station.The discovery of Th–U cosmic-ray nuclei tracks in 1980 was unambiguously confirmed by calibrations of the same crystals with 238U, 197Au and 208Pb accelerated ions in the late 1980s. More than 1600 tracks due to cosmic-ray actinide nuclei were measured during the last two decades of the 20th century.Also, 11 anomalously long tracks (track length exceeds by a factor (1.6±0.1) the track length due to Th–U nuclei were measured. The detailed analysis shows that at least 5 of these tracks could not be attributed to the Th–U nuclei. It means that now we have a preliminary proof on the existence Z110 nuclei in cosmic-rays. The abundance is Z110/Th–U=(1–3)×10−3 in Z110 freshly formed cosmic-rays (time interval 103–107 years).The method proposed can provide the necessary and sufficient conditions for the discovery of Z110 nuclei in nature.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that trained listeners are highly reliable in making perceptual judgments of several parameters of normal and pathologic voices. This study investigated objective measures of acoustic characteristics of high and low preference voices as determined by previous perceptual study. Four acoustic parameters were measured including harmonics-to-noise ratio, autocorrelation function, average jitter, and the standard deviation of the fundamental frequency. Useful correlations between perceptual and measured results were identified. Normal voices differ from pathologic voices in terms of the acoustic-perceptual relationships.  相似文献

A formulation of quantum mechanics with additive and multiplicative (q-) difference operators instead of differential operators is studied from first principles. Borel-quantisation on smooth configuration spaces is used as guiding quantisation method. After a short discussion this method is translated step-by-step to a framework based on difference operators. To restrict the resulting plethora of possible quantisations additional assumptions motivated by simplicity and plausibility are required. Multiplicative difference operators and the corresponding q-Borel kinematics are given on the circle and its N-point discretisation; the connection to q-deformations of the Witt algebra is discussed. For a “natural” choice of the q-kinematics a corresponding q-difference evolution equation is obtained. This study shows general difficulties for a generalisation of a physical theory from a known one to a “new” framework.  相似文献

A method is worked out for calculation of an “instantaneous” energy distribution of the ionization-passive electrons and holes resulting from the electron-electron collisions before the onset of electron-phonon relaxation under 10−15–10−14 s irradiation of a dielectric by an intense electron or laser beam. The method is based on the solution of a system of integral-differential kinetic equations of general form. The Auger and impact ionization as well as hole recoil due to the momentum conservation law are taken into account in calculations. The “instantaneous” distribution is calculated in NaCl under irradiation of the sample by a high-density electron beam. In interferometric fringe pattern analysis, specular and speckle fringe patterns are the two main divisions. While specular fringes are characterized by quality fringes, speckle (that obtains due to the diffuse scattering of the coherent radiation from an optically rough surface) fringe patterns are characterized by noisy fringes. This paper concentrates on this aspect and the Matlab based filtering methods to improve the quality of speckle fringe patterns by developing the appropriate software. Further, the newly developed software “Macurv” will be presented which can give the second order derivative (curvature) fringe information. A software with several functions is written using Matlab. The objective of the software is to provide a more effective way for the post-processing of speckle interferometric fringes. The algorithm and functions of the developed software “Macurv” will be explained.  相似文献

We present a phenomenological theory of the homogeneous orbital dynamics of the class of “separable” anisotropic superfluid phases which includes the ABM state generally identified with 3He-A. The theory is developed by analogy with the spin dynamics described in the first paper of this series; the basic variables are the orientation of the Cooper-pair wavefunction (in the ABM phase, the l-vector) and a quantity K which we visualize as the “pseudo-angular momentum” of the Cooper pairs but which must be distinguished, in general, from the total orbital angular momentum of the system. In the ABM case l is the analog of d in the spin dynamics and K of the “superfluid spin” Sp. Important points of difference from the spin case which are taken into account include the fact that a rotation of l without a simultaneous rotation of the normal-component distribution strongly increases the energy of the system (“normal locking”), and that the equilibrium value of K is zero even for finite total angular momentum. The theory does not claim to handle correctly effects associated with any intrinsic angular momentum arising from particle-hole asymmetry, but it is shown that the magnitude of this quantity can be estimated directly from experimental data and is extremely small; also, the Landau damping does not emerge automatically from the theory, but can be put in in an ad hoc way. With these provisos the theory should be valid for all frequencies irrespective of the value of ωτ. (Δ = gap parameter, τ = quasi-particle relaxation time.) It disagrees with all existing phenomenological theories of comparable generality, although the disagreement with that of Volovik and Mineev is confined to the “gapless” region very close to Tc.The phenomenological equations of motion, which are similar in general form to those of the spin dynamics with damping, involve an “orbital susceptibility of the Cooper pairs” χorb(T). We give a possible microscopic definition of the variable K and use it to calculate χorb(T) for a general phase of the “separable” type. The theory is checked by inserting the resulting formula in the phenomenological equations for ωτ 1 and comparing with the results of a fully microscopic calculation based on the collisionless kinetic equation; precise agreement is obtained for both the ABM and the (real) polar phase, showing that the complex nature of the ABM phase and the associated “pair angular momentum” is largely irrelevant to its orbital dynamics. We note also that the phenomenological theory gives a good qualitative picture even when ω Δ(T), e.g., for the flapping mode near Tc. Our theory permits a simple and unified calculation of (1) the Cross-Anderson viscous torque in the overdamped regime, (2) the flapping-mode frequency near zero temperature, (3) orbital effects on the NMR, both at low temperatures and near Tc, (4) the orbit wave spectrum at zero temperature (this requires a generalization to inhomogeneous situations which is possible at T = 0 but probably not elsewhere). We also discuss the possibility of experiments of the Einstein-de Haas type. Generally speaking, our results for any one particular application can be also obtained from some alternative theory, but in the case of orbital and spin relaxation very close to Tc (within the “gapless” region) our predictions, while somewhat tentative and qualitative, appear to disagree with those of all existing theories. We discuss briefly how our approach could be extended to apply to more general phases.  相似文献

The interaction of xenon with different proteins in aqueous solution is investigated by 129Xe NMR spectroscopy. Chemical shifts are measured in horse metmyoglobin, hen egg white lysozyme, and horse cytochrome c solutions as a function of xenon concentration. In these systems, xenon is in fast exchange between all possible environments. The results suggest that nonspecific interactions exist between xenon and the protein exteriors and the data are analyzed in term of parameters which characterize the protein surfaces. The experimental data for horse metmyoglobin are interpreted using a model in which xenon forms a 1:1 complex with the protein and the chemical shift of the complexed xenon is reported (Locci et al., Keystone Symposia “Frontiers of NMR in Molecular Biology VI”, Jan. 9–15, 1999, Breckenridge, CO, Abstract E216, p. 53; Locci et al., XeMAT 2000 “Optical Polarization and Xenon NMR of Materials”, June 28–30, 2000, Sestri Levante, Italy, p. 46).  相似文献

A systematic study of the ground state, excitation spectrum, and “isospin-magnetic” properties of the U(1)-Thirring model, based on its exact (Bethe-ansatz) solution, is presented. The exact results obtained for the renormalized mass spectrum in all sectors of the phase diagram of the model allow us to observe a continuous transition from the weak-coupling theory into a strong-coupling (asymptotically free) regime, taking place by varying the coupling constants, g and g. Some questions concerning universality and the relation to other models are discussed.  相似文献

We analyze possible lepton-flavor-violating decays of the Z0 particle in a minimal extension of the standard model, in which one right-handed neutral field for each family has been introduced. Such rare leptonic decays are induced by Majorana neutrinos at the first electroweak loop level and are generally not suppressed by the ordinary “see-saw” mechanism. In particular, we find that experimental bounds on branching ratios of the order of 10−5–10−6 attainable at LEP may impose constraints on lepton-flavor-mixing parameters and the masses of the heavy Majorana neutrinos.  相似文献

A new approach to the theory of temporal aberration for cathode lenses is given in the present paper. A definition of temporal aberration is given in which a certain initial energy of electron emission along the axial direction εz1 (0εz1ε0max) is considered. A new method to calculate the temporal aberration coefficients of cathode lenses named “direct integral method” is also presented. The “direct integral method” gives new expressions of the temporal aberration coefficients which are expressed in integral forms. The difference between “direct integral method” and “τ-variation method” is that the “τ-variation method” needs to solve the differential equations for the three of temporal geometrical aberration coefficients of second order, while the “direct integral method” only needs to carry out the integral calculation for all of these temporal aberration coefficients of second order.All of the formulae of the temporal aberration coefficients deduced from “direct integral method” and “τ-variation method” have been verified by an electrostatic concentric spherical system model, and contrasted with the analytical solutions. Results show that these two methods have got identical solutions and the solutions of temporal aberration coefficients of the first and second order are the same as with the analytical solutions. Although some forms of the results seem different, but they can be transformed into the same form. Thus, it can be concluded these two methods given by us are equivalent and correct, but the “direct integral method” is related to solve integral equations, which is more convenient for computation and could be suggested for use in practical design.  相似文献

In the context of optimal acoustic design of concert halls, preference tests for simulated sound fields with various combinations of early discrete reflections and subsequent reverberation were conducted and the results compared with objective parameters. The results show that lateral early reflections which yield a small value of the interaural cross correlation give more preferred judgments than do non-lateral ones. The most preferred initial time delay (or scale factor for the dimensions of concert halls) can be determined by the long-time autocorrelation function of a music motif and by the total amplitude of both early reflections and the subsequent reverberation. As a comprehensive design concept, an “overall preference” for listeners is introduced here from the preference results.  相似文献

Gas-phase and catalytic combustion in heat-recirculating burners   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
An experimental study of a spiral counterflow “Swiss roll” burner was conducted, with emphasis on the determination of extinction limits and comparison of results with and without bare-metal Pt catalyst. A wide range of Reynolds numbers (Re) were tested using propane–air mixtures. Both lean and rich extinction limits were extended with the catalyst, though rich limits were extended much further. With the catalyst, combustion could be sustained at Re as low as 1.2 with peak temperatures as low as 350 K. A heat transfer parameter characterizing the thermal performance of both gas-phase and catalytic combustion at all Re was identified. At low Re, the “lean” extinction limit was actually rich of stoichiometric, and rich-limit had equivalence ratios exceeded 40 in some cases. No corresponding behavior was observed without the catalyst. Gas-phase combustion, in general, occurred in a “flameless” mode near the burner center. With or without catalyst, for sufficiently robust conditions (high Re, near-stoichiometric) not requiring heat recirculation, a visible flame would propagate out of the center, but this flame could only be re-centered if the catalyst were present. Gas chromatography indicated that at low Re, even in extremely rich mixtures, CO and non-propane hydrocarbons did not form. For higher Re, where both gas-phase and catalytic combustion could occur, catalytic limits were slightly broader but had much lower limit temperatures. At sufficiently high Re, catalytic and gas-phase limits merged. It is concluded that combustion at low Re in heat-recirculating burners greatly benefits from catalytic combustion with the proper choice of mixtures that are different from those preferred for gas-phase combustion. In particular, the importance of providing a reducing environment for the catalyst to enhance O2 desorption, especially at low Re where heat losses are severe thus peak temperatures are low, is noted.  相似文献

Acoustic and glottographic measures may provide important information that could enhance clinical management and documentation of vocal dysfunction. Acoustic measures such as jitter and shimmer reflect “short-term” perturbations, or instabilities of the voice, and the coefficients of variation for frequency and for amplitude reflect “long-term” perturbations. Interpretations of these acoustic measures are based on the assumption that vocal perturbations may be related to laryngeal tissue abnormalities, asymmetries in vocal fold movement, or neuromuscular fluctuations in the respiratory, laryngeal, or vocal tract systems. The abduction quotient is a glottographic measure related to laryngeal adduction and is obtained from an analysis of the electroglottograph signal. The adduction measure appears to be independent of the acoustic perturbation measures. Interpretations of the acoustic and adductory measures may, therefore, complement each other for greater understanding of a patient's laryngeal behavior. Visual displays of the acoustic and glottographic signals also are discussed to demonstrate their value in voice signal interpretations. Case studies illustrate potential interpretations of the acoustic perturbation and abduction quotient measures.  相似文献

A canonical formalism of the dynamics of interacting spherically symmetric Yang-Mills and gravitational fields is presented. The work is based on Dirac's technique for constrained hamiltonian systems. The gauge freedom of the Yang-Mills field is treated in the same footing with the coordinate transformation freedom of the gravitational field. In particular, the fixation of coordinates and the fixation of the internal gauge are achieved by totally similar techniques. Two classes of spherically symmetric motions are considered: (i) the class for which the Yang-Mills potentials themselves are spherically symmetric (“manifest spherical symmetry”). In this case the results are valid for an arbitrary gauge group; and (ii) the class for which, in the SO(3) gauge group, a rotation in physical space is compensated by a rotation of equal magnitude but opposite direction in isospin space (“spherical symmetry up to a gauge transformation”). For manifest spherical symmetry the problem amounts to effectively dealing with an abelian gauge group and the most general solution of the field equations turns out to be the Reissner-Nordström metric with a Coulomb field. For spherical symmetry up to a gauge transformation the problem is more interesting. the formalism contains then, besides the gravitational variables, three pairs of functions of the radial coordinate that describe the degrees of freedom of the Yang-Mills field. Two pairs of these functions can be combined into a complex field ψ and its conjugate. The hamiltonian is then invariant under r-dependent rotations in the complex ψ-plane. The third degree of freedom plays the role of a compensating field associated with this invariance under localized U(l) rotations. The compensating field can always be brought to zero by a gauge transformation. After this is done the gauge is completely fixed but the problem remains invariant under position independent rotations in the ψ plane. Static solutions of the field equations in this gauge are of the form ψ(r) = (r) exp (iΘ) with Θ independent of position. The particular case Θ = 0 corresponds to the Wu-Yang ansatz. A nontrivial static solution can be found in closed form. The Yang-Mills field is of the generalized Wu-Yang type with an extra electric term, and the metric is the Reissner-Nordström one. It is pointed out that a Higgs field can be easily introduced in the formalism. The addition of the Higgs field does not destroy the invariance of the Hamiltonian under r-dependent rotations in the ψ-plane. The conserved quantity associated with the invariance under ψ → exp (i(const))ψ coincides with the electric charge as defined by 't Hooft in a more general context.  相似文献
