Use of smokeless tobacco (SLT) is associated with cancer of the oral cavity. 210Po, a known carcinogen present in SLT may leach into the saliva when the snuff is held in the mouth. Alpha emission from leached 210Po can cause oral tissue damage, especially in the presence of non healing ulcers seen frequently in snuff users’ mouth. Leaching of 210Po from SLT in human saliva was determined for six popular US snuff brands. 210Po was leached into human saliva for 30 min, separated radiochemically and its activity was determined by α-counting. Approximately 2–10% of 210Po present in SLT was observed to leach. Annual exposure from leached 210Po, based on average daily consumption of 15 g of SLT, was calculated to range from 1.1 to 3.8 Bq year−1.  相似文献

A quality control programme is presented for the determination of 210Po in samples from the phosphate ore-processing industry. The deliberate poisoning of A. Litvinenko in London in late 2006 with 210Po, attracted attention to the difficulties in identifying internal contamination with alpha emitting radionuclides and to the limited knowledge available on the cycling of many naturally occurring radioisotopes in the body and their baseline concentration values in humans. To cope with the emergency caused by the spread of high 210Po activity, which contaminated several people and places in London, we were called upon to analyze urine samples in potentially contaminated people. A reference group of adult humans was also selected for determination of baseline 210Po values to be used for comparative purposes. Concentrations of 210Po in urine samples from three Portuguese citizens that have been at contaminated places, in London, ranged from 2.3 to 4.1 mBq·L−1 while in the reference group 210Po concentrations ranged from 0.5 to 4.8 mBq·L−1. Analytical quality of results was ensured through participation in an international inter laboratory comparison exercise on 210Po determination in aqueous samples. Results indicated that people potentially exposed to 210Po in London were not internally contaminated with the radionuclide used as a poisoning agent, and the levels of this radionuclide measured in the urine were similar to the naturally occurring levels in the reference group. Polonium levels in urine and in man are discussed in the light of 210Po levels in the human diet.  相似文献

The concentrations of 226Ra, 210Po and 210Pb have been measured, by high efficiency 5″ × 5″ NaI(Tl) gamma ray spectrometer and chemical deposition method, in surface water samples from major rivers Kali, Sharavathi and Netravathi of coastal Karnataka. Measurements of 226Ra, 210Po and 210Pb in surface water from these rivers are important because the river water is main source of potable water in this region due to inadequate supply of treated water. The mean activity of 226Ra, 210Po and 210Pb in the surface water of the river Kali was found to be 5.13 mBq L−1, 1.28 and 1.37 Bq L−1, for Sharavathi River the mean activity was found to be 3.37 mBq L−1, 1.30 and 1.44 Bq L−1. In Netravathi River the mean activity of 226Ra, 210Po and 210Pb was found to be 3.30 mBq L−1, 1.00 and 1.20 Bq L−1. From the measured concentration of 226Ra, 210Po and 210Pb, the Effective dose to the population of the region was computed. The results of these systematic studies are presented and discussed in the paper.  相似文献

In various samples of Mytilus galloprovincialis, 210Po was determined by alpha-spectrometry while Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Sn, Hg and Pb by energy dispersive, polarised X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDPXRF). The mussels of different sizes were taken from 7 sites in the central Adriatic Sea along the Marche coastal region during the four seasons of the year. 210Po activity concentration ranged between 57 and 343 Bq·kg−1 dry weight. The concentration ranges of heavy metals (μg·g−1 dry weight) were as follows: Mn: 72.9–83.1; Fe: 45.1–754; Ni: 1.3–7.6; Cu: 17.9–156; Zn: 60.9–189; Cd: 0.6–1.0; Sn: 0.6–3.9; Hg always <0.5; Pb: 2.0–9.0. The data obtained depend upon the site and the period of the sampling and they are also compared with those obtained by other authors for the same organism in the Mediterranean and other Italian seas.  相似文献

226Ra activity concentration in the mullet (Mugilidae) species Mugil cephalus whole individuals, and some organs (gills, gastrointestinal system, fins, muscle and bones), was measured by the γ-coincidence spectrometer PRIPYAT-2M. 226Ra transfer parameters [concentration factors (CFs)] from seawater, sediment and mud with detritus to fish tissues, and annual intake by humans consuming this fish species, have been estimated. Minimum detected radium activity concentration in whole M. cephalus individuals was found to be 0.89 ± 0.42 to 3.09 ± 0.41 Bq kg−1, with arithmetic mean of 1.65 ± 0.39 Bq kg−1. An average concentration in muscles is found to be 2.28 ± 0.84 Bq kg−1, in gills—5.02 ± 1.85 Bq kg−1, in gastrointestinal system—12.88 ± 1.71 Bq kg−1, and in bones—14.72 ± 3.75 Bq kg−1. No one fins showed radium activity above minimum detectable one. Annual intake of 226Ra by human consumers of this fish species is estimated to provide an effective dose of 0.006 mSv year−1. CFs for 226Ra indicating transfer from seawater to whole individuals ranged from 8.9 to 30.9, and those indicating transfer from the sediment and mud with detritus—from 0.11 to 0.39 and from 0.08 to 0.3, respectively. The seawater to bones CFs varied from 97.9 to 197.3, to gastrointestinal system—from 59 to 178.8, to gills—from 22.5 to 68.3, to muscles—from 17 to 30.8.  相似文献

The paper presents systematic studies on the vertical profiles of 210Po, an important decay product of 238U, in soils along coastal Kerala. Soil samples collected from different depth intervals 0–10, 10–20, 20–30 cm were analyzed for 210Po activity concentration by radiochemical methods. The activity 210Po in soil samples were counted using a ZnS(Ag) alpha scintillation counting system. The mean values of activity concentrations of 210Po in soil of various depths were found to be 8.66, 5.63 and 4.95 Bq kg−1 for depth intervals of 0–10, 10–20 and 20–30 cm, respectively. The overall activity concentration of 210Po in soil was found to vary from 2.26 ± 0.19 to 14.02 ± 0.12 Bq kg−1 with a mean value of 6.43 Bq kg−1. Maximum activity concentration was found in soil samples of Kollam region with the mean value of 10.08 ± 0.92 Bq kg−1. The activity of 210Po was found to be comparatively high in surface soil. The variation of 210Po activity concentration with organic matter contents was studied. 210Polonium activity concentration was found to increase with increasing organic matter content.  相似文献

Heavy metals concentrations (Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb, Sn and Zn) have been determined monthly in surface sediments from the Mar Piccolo in Taranto (Ionian Sea, Southern Italy. a semi-enclosed marine basin very important from a mussel-culture point of view. In sediments, sulphides, percentage of organic carbon and redox potential were also determined to show possible correlations between metals levels and redox characteristics of marine sediments. Analytical results, elaborated by multivariate statistical techniques, confirm that sediments collected in the first inlet of Mar Piccolo, where shipbuilding activities are present, have a contamination level greater than those collected in the second inlet. For each metal, the geoaccumulation index (Igeo) has been calculated as criterion to evaluate both pollution levels and metals enrichment in examined sediments: Igeo values confirm that the first inlet is an moderately polluted area from Hg and Pb. In any case, high sulphide concentrations and negative values of redox potentials bring to a conclusion that metals are present in sediments, mainly as insoluble sulphides and then as not bioavailable compounds for filter feeders organisms such as mussels.  相似文献

This paper describes the methods of sampling, preconcentration, chemical separation and final count of 210Po and 210Pb present in different marine matrices to determine their background levels in a marine ecosystem. Complex, time consuming and selective radioanalytical methods have been used to prepare final clear sources for alpha spectrometry and beta count; in fact, gamma spectrometry, a method direct and non destructive, cannot be taken into account because the 210Pb activity is very low which does not allow to carry out sufficiently accurate measurements and 210Po is not a gamma emitter but it emits only alpha particle at 5.40 MeV. The results of 210Po and 210Pb activity concentrations obtained in different marine samples collected in the first two campaigns are still very few to discuss about the 210Po and 210Pb behavior in marine environment.  相似文献

The concentrations of210Po and210Pb were determined in about 30 species of marine organisms collected mainly from the north-easterm region of Japan to know the levels and distributions of these radionuclides and to estimate their intake levels from marine foods.210Po and210Pb showed a wide range of concentration in species: 0.6–26 and 0.04–0.54 Bq/kg (wet wt) in fishes, 0.5–220 and 0.2–43 Bq/kg (wet wt) in molluscs, echinoderms and chordatas, and 2.8–4.3 and 0.4–1.3 Bq/kg (wet wt) in algae, respectively. Higher accumulation of210Po relative to210Pb was found in all of the samples analyzed. The intake levels of210Po and210Pb by marine foods consumption were roughly estimated to be 0.48–0.69 and 0.022–0.042 Bq/d per person, respectively, on the basis of the statistical data on the consumption of seafood and/or production rates of marine foods.  相似文献

An efficient and systematic chemical procedure for the simultaneous measurement of Th, Pu, Ra isotopes, 210Pb, 55Fe, 32Si and 14C in the same sample has been developed. This method has been applied successfully to the measurement of these isotopes in oceanic particulate samples collected from several tons of sea water. This procedure should find application in the analysis of geochemical samples.  相似文献

1H, 13C and 29Si NMR data for the compounds (CH3)xSi(CH2CHCH2)4-x are reported. The 1H resonances from the π system are indicative of the electron-supplying inductive effect (+I) of the (CH3SiCH2, moiety but the corresponding 13Cπ chemical shifts seem to be influenced by a sterically induced polarization of the C-H bonds. The 13CAll, 13CMe and 29Si chemical shift data reveal an important neighbour anisotropy contribution originating from the π system. Ultraviolet study of the compounds mentioned above gives indication of a σ—π conjugation in accordance with PES and ab initio results [1—5]. The trend observed in the various coupling constants is too small to be Interpreted.  相似文献

Summary For the determination of cadmium in culture water from toxicological experiments with marine organisms direct flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometry seems to be an appropriate method, because it is less complicated than any combination with an extraction method. Unfortunately, it cannot be applied in the g·l–1-range without modifications, because matrix effects lead to unacceptable variations in the results. It was found that these difficulties can be overcome by the addition of ammonium peroxodisulphate and sulphuric acid. A routine method basing on this effect has been developed.

Zusammenfassung Zur Cadmiumbestimmung in Kulturwasser von toxikologischen Versuchen mit marinen Organismen scheint die direkte flammenlose Atomabsorptions-Spektralphotometrie besonders geeignet zu sein, denn sie ist weniger umständlich als jede Kombination mit einer Extraktionsmethode. Ohne Modifikationen kann die Direktbestimmung jedoch im g/l-Bereich nicht eingesetzt werden, denn Matrixeffekte bewirken allzu starke Streuungen der Meßergebnisse. Es wird gezeigt, daß ein Zusatz von Ammoniumperoxodisulfat und Schwefelsäure zur Probenlösung eine deutliche Verbesserung bewirkt. Eine Routinemethode wurde entwickelt, bei der von diesem Effekt Gebrauch gemacht wird.

Summary This paper is a plea for a reference material containing extremely low concentrations of Pb and Cd. A reasoning is given by a historical overview on the main topics of pollution research in relation to those metals. Emphasis has changed from toxicological tests (with high concentrations) over hot spots in the environment (certain organisms and organs, such as kidney and liver, showing significantly elevated concentrations) to mechanisms of transport and modelling. That development has been accompanied and promoted by methodological improvement. Those concentrations, which have to be determined with a sufficiently high precision are now in the lower background range. A proper standard material for such purpose could be fish muscle which, over and above, could be spiked, if necessary, for measurements in a higher concentration range.

Summary The appicability of flameless AAS to direct cadmium determinations in seawater samples is limited to a level of about 2g l–1 [22]. Thus, for lower concentrations, a combination with an extraction method has been tested. It has been shown that the extraction can well be carried out with ammonium pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (APDC). However, several modifications of the well known APDC/MIBK-Method were necessary. The key for the method presented was the choice of an appropriate solvent (CCl4, C2Cl4) for the reagent as well as for its Cd-complex. Then a simple, sensitive and miniaturized method has been developed, which has then been applied to a few natural seawater samples.

Zusammenfassung Die direkte Bestimmung von Cadmium im Meerwasser durch flammenlose AAS stößt unterhalb einer Konzentration von 2g l–1 auf beträchtliche Schwierigkeiten [22]. Deshalb wurde eine kombinierte Methode erprobt, bei welcher das Metall zunächst extrahiert und dann mittels flammenloser AAS bestimmt wird. Es zeigte sich, daß die Extraktion gut mit Ammoniumpyrrolidindithiocarbamat (APDC) ausgeführt werden kann. Es wurden jedoch erhebliche Abwandlungen der wohlbekannten APDC-MIBK-Extraktionsmethode erforderlich. Erst als es gelang, ein geeignetes Solvens (CCl4, C2Cl4) sowohl für das APDC als auch für seinen Cd-Komplex zu finden, konnte eine einfache, empfindliche und miniaturisierte Bestimmungsmethode entwickelt werden, mit deren Hilfe dann der Cd-Gehalt einiger Meerwasserproben bestimmt wurde.

The aim of the present work was to determine the concentration of radionuclides in all kinds of tea available at the local Egyptian market. Radioactivity of the nuclides 238U, 226Ra, 210Pb, 228Th, 232Th, 226Ra, 137Cs and 40K were measured in tea by direct γ-ray spectrometry using HPGe detector and their mean values were 16.0±5.3, 3.1±0.7, 34.3±3.4, 3.4±1.2, 3.0±0.6, 3.1±0.8, 0.9±0.2 and 623±25 Bq·kg−1, respectively.  相似文献

1H, 13C and 29Si NMR spectra of the allylchlorosilanes (CH2CH-CH2-)xSiCl4?x and of triallylbromosilane have been analysed.
