We present a new method for minimizing a strictly convex function subject to general convex constraints. Constraints are used one at a time, no changes are made in the constraint functions (thus the row-action nature of the algorithm) and at each iteration a subproblem is solved consisting of minimization of the objective function subject to one or two linear equations. Convergence of the algorithm is established and the method is compared with other row-action algorithms for several relevant particular cases.Corresponding author. In this paper we present a robust duality theory for generalized convex programming problems in the face of data uncertainty within the framework of robust optimization. We establish robust strong duality for an uncertain nonlinear programming primal problem and its uncertain Lagrangian dual by showing strong duality between the deterministic counterparts: robust counterpart of the primal model and the optimistic counterpart of its dual problem. A robust strong duality theorem is given whenever the Lagrangian function is convex. We provide classes of uncertain non-convex programming problems for which robust strong duality holds under a constraint qualification. In particular, we show that robust strong duality is guaranteed for non-convex quadratic programming problems with a single quadratic constraint with the spectral norm uncertainty under a generalized Slater condition. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the nature of robust duality for uncertain nonlinear programming problems. We further show that robust duality continues to hold under a weakened convexity condition.  相似文献

Given a finite number of closed convex sets whose algebraic representation is known, we study the problem of finding the minimum of a convex function on the closure of the convex hull of the union of those sets. We derive an algebraic characterization of the feasible region in a higher-dimensional space and propose a solution procedure akin to the interior-point approach for convex programming. We introduce and characterize a class of differentiable convex functions for which the Karush—Kuhn—Tucker condition is necessary for optimality. If some constraints do not belong to this class, then the characterization of optimality generally assumes an asymptotic form.We also show that for the functions that belong to this class in multi-objective optimization, Pareto solutions coincide with strong Pareto solutions,. In this paper, we are concerned with a nonsmooth programming problem with inequality constraints. We obtain an optimality condition for Kuhn-Tucker points to be minimizers. Later on, we present necessary and sufficient conditions for weak duality between the primal problem and its mixed type dual, which help us to extend some earlier work from the literature.  相似文献

A proximal-based decomposition method for convex minimization problems   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10  
This paper presents a decomposition method for solving convex minimization problems. At each iteration, the algorithm computes two proximal steps in the dual variables and one proximal step in the primal variables. We derive this algorithm from Rockafellar's proximal method of multipliers, which involves an augmented Lagrangian with an additional quadratic proximal term. The algorithm preserves the good features of the proximal method of multipliers, with the additional advantage that it leads to a decoupling of the constraints, and is thus suitable for parallel implementation. We allow for computing approximately the proximal minimization steps and we prove that under mild assumptions on the problem's data, the method is globally convergent and at a linear rate. The method is compared with alternating direction type methods and applied to the particular case of minimizing a convex function over a finite intersection of closed convex sets.Corresponding author. We consider the linear program min{cx: Axb} and the associated exponential penalty functionf r(x) = cx + rexp[(A ix – bi)/r]. Forr close to 0, the unconstrained minimizerx(r) off r admits an asymptotic expansion of the formx(r) = x * + rd* + (r) wherex * is a particular optimal solution of the linear program and the error term(r) has an exponentially fast decay. Using duality theory we exhibit an associated dual trajectory(r) which converges exponentially fast to a particular dual optimal solution. These results are completed by an asymptotic analysis whenr tends to : the primal trajectory has an asymptotic ray and the dual trajectory converges to an interior dual feasible solution.Corresponding author. For an inequality system defined by an infinite family of proper convex functions (not necessarily lower semicontinuous), we introduce some new notions of constraint qualifications. Under the new constraint qualifications, we provide necessary and/or sufficient conditions for the KKT rules to hold. Similarly, we provide characterizations for constrained minimization problems to have total Lagrangian dualities. Several known results in the conic programming problem are extended and improved.  相似文献

A proximal bundle method with inexact data is presented for minimizing an unconstrained nonsmooth convex function ff. At each iteration, only the approximate evaluations of ff and its εε-subgradients are required and its search directions are determined via solving quadratic programmings. Compared with the pre-existing results, the polyhedral approximation model that we offer is more precise and a new term is added into the estimation term of the descent from the model. It is shown that every cluster of the sequence of iterates generated by the proposed algorithm is an exact solution of the unconstrained minimization problem.  相似文献

We generalize the disjunctive approach of Balas, Ceria, and Cornuéjols [2] and devevlop a branch-and-cut method for solving 0-1 convex programming problems. We show that cuts can be generated by solving a single convex program. We show how to construct regions similar to those of Sherali and Adams [20] and Lovász and Schrijver [12] for the convex case. In this paper we give conditions for deriving the inconsistency of an inequality system of positively homogeneous functions starting from the inconsistency of another one. When the impossibility of the starting system represents a necessary optimality condition for an inequality constrained extremum problem and the positively homogeneous functions involved have suitable properties of convexity, such conditions collapse into the well known constraint qualifications.  相似文献

In this paper, by introducing C2 mappings ξi(x,zi),i=1,…,m and using the idea of the aggregate function method, a new aggregate constraint homotopy method is proposed to solve the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) point of nonconvex nonlinear programming problems. Compared with the previous results, the choice scope of initial points is greatly enlarged, so use of the new aggregate constraint homotopy method may improve the computational efficiency of reduced predictor-corrector algorithms.  相似文献

In this paper, we address linear bilevel programs when the coefficients of both objective functions are interval numbers. The focus is on the optimal value range problem which consists of computing the best and worst optimal objective function values and determining the settings of the interval coefficients which provide these values. We prove by examples that, in general, there is no precise way of systematizing the specific values of the interval coefficients that can be used to compute the best and worst possible optimal solutions. Taking into account the properties of linear bilevel problems, we prove that these two optimal solutions occur at extreme points of the polyhedron defined by the common constraints. Moreover, we develop two algorithms based on ranking extreme points that allow us to compute them as well as determining settings of the interval coefficients which provide the optimal value range.  相似文献

This paper deals with bounded linear regularity, linear regularity and the strong conical hull intersection property (CHIP) of a collection of finitely many closed convex intersecting sets in Banach spaces. It is shown that, as in finite dimensional space setting (see [6]), the standard constraint qualification implies bounded linear regularity, which in turn yields the strong conical hull intersection property, and that the collection of closed convex sets {C 1, . . . ,C n } is bounded linearly regular if and only if the tangent cones of {C 1, . . . ,C n } has the CHIP and the normal cones of {C 1, . . . ,C n } has the property (G)(uniformly on a neighborhood in the intersection C). As applications, we study the global error bounds for systems of linear and convex inequalities. We consider a class of stochastic nonlinear programs for which an approximation to a locally optimal solution is specified in terms of a fractional reduction of the initial cost error. We show that such an approximate solution can be found by approximately solving a sequence of sample average approximations. The key issue in this approach is the determination of the required sequence of sample average approximations as well as the number of iterations to be carried out on each sample average approximation in this sequence. We show that one can express this requirement as an idealized optimization problem whose cost function is the computing work required to obtain the required error reduction. The specification of this idealized optimization problem requires the exact knowledge of a few problems and algorithm parameters. Since the exact values of these parameters are not known, we use estimates, which can be updated as the computation progresses. We illustrate our approach using two numerical examples from structural engineering design.  相似文献

We observe a curious property of dual versus primal-dual path-following interior-point methods when applied to unbounded linear or conic programming problems in dual form. While primal-dual methods can be viewed as implicitly following a central path to detect primal infeasibility and dual unboundedness, dual methods can sometimes implicitly move away from the analytic center of the set of infeasibility/unboundedness detectors. In Part I of this work we derived a duality theorem for partially finite convex programs, problems for which the standard Slater condition fails almost invariably. Our result depended on a constraint qualification involving the notion ofquasi relative interior. The derivation of the primal solution from a dual solution depended on the differentiability of the dual objective function: the differentiability of various convex functions in lattices was considered at the end of Part I. In Part II we shall apply our results to a number of more concrete problems, including variants of semi-infinite linear programming,L 1 approximation, constrained approximation and interpolation, spectral estimation, semi-infinite transportation problems and the generalized market area problem of Lowe and Hurter (1976). As in Part I, we shall use lattice notation extensively, but, as we illustrated there, in concrete examples lattice-theoretic ideas can be avoided, if preferred, by direct calculation.  相似文献

In this work continuous-time programming problems of vector optimization are considered. Firstly, a nonconvex generalized Gordan’s transposition theorem is obtained. Then, the relationship with the associated weighting scalar problem is studied and saddle point optimality results are established. A scalar dual problem is introduced and duality theorems are given. This article presents a simplicial branch and duality bound algorithm for globally solving the sum of convex–convex ratios problem with nonconvex feasible region. To our knowledge, little progress has been made for globally solving this problem so far. The algorithm uses a branch and bound scheme where the Lagrange duality theory is used to obtain the lower bounds. As a result, the lower-bounding subproblems during the algorithm search are all ordinary linear programs that can be solved very efficiently. It has been proved that the algorithm possesses global convergence. Finally, the numerical experiments are given to show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献
