Electrical conductivity of aqueous solutions of tetradecylpyridinium bromide and chloride has been measured as a function of surfactant molal concentration and temperature. From the molal dependence of conductivity, the critical micelle concentration and the micellar ionization degree were estimated. The temperature dependence of these parameters has been used for calculating the thermodynamic parameters related with the micellization process by using the classical charged pseudophase separation model. The effect of the counterion on the conventional thermodynamic potentials of micellization such as standard Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy has also been a matter of study. Finally, the occurrence of the enthalpy–entropy compensation phenomenon was verified and the relevant parameters discussed. 相似文献

Micellization of three didodecyl dicationic dibromide gemini surfactants with different methylene spacer lengths, 12-s-12,2Br- where s = 3-5 methylene groups, has been investigated in water-ethylene glycol, EG, mixtures with weight percentages of EG up to 50%. Subsequently, effects of the addition of the organic solvent on the micellar growth of these surfactants and on the surfactant concentration range where sphere-to-rod transitions occur were studied by means of steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence quenching and spectroscopic measurements. Results show that an increase in the weight percentage of ethylene glycol added to aqueous 12-s-12,2Br- (s = 3-5) micellar solutions causes the sphere-to-rod transition to occur at higher surfactant concentrations than in pure water. The diminution in the average aggregation number, N(agg), when wt % EG increases, provoked by the decrease in the interfacial Gibbs energy contribution to DeltaG degrees M, is the main factor responsible for this observation. The decrease in N(agg) is accompanied by a decrease in the ionic interactions and the extra packing contribution to the deformation of the surfactants tails, making formation of cylindrical micelles less favorable. Besides, an increase in the solvent content and polarity of the interfacial region does not favor formation of direct ion pairs, decreasing the tendency of micelles to grow. 相似文献

Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and turbidity measurements have been carried out on the nonionic surfactants Tween 20 and Tween 80, in the presence of diethyleneglycol (DEG), triethyleneglycol (TEG), ethylene glycol monoethyl ether (EGMEE), and ethyleneglycol mono butyl ether (EGMBE). SANS measurements show that the shapes of the Tween 20 and Tween 80 micelles are oblate ellipsoidal, which do not change predominantly in the presence of DEG and TEG. However, the presence of EGMBE and EGMEE reduces the aggregation number of Tween. This has been attributed to the solubilization of EGMBE and EGMEE in the Tween micelles, providing them with additional hydrophobicity. 相似文献

Equilibrium and non-equilibrium molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulation techniques were applied to predict various thermodynamic, transport and vapor-liquid equilibrium properties of binary mixtures of ethylene glycol and water (EG-W) based on OPLS-AA and SPC/E force fields. The properties predicted include density, vaporization enthalpy, enthalpy of mixing, heat capacities, diffusion coefficients, shear viscosities, thermal conductivities, vapor-liquid coexistence isotherms and isobaric curves, and saturation vapor pressures. Good agreements with experimental data were obtained for most of these properties. Errors are mostly related to inaccuracy found in predictions of pure fluids; a correction to prediction of pure substance can systematically improve prediction for the mixture. This work suggests that OPLS-AA and SPC/E force fields using the common combining rules are transferable for predicting multiple physical properties of EG-W mixtures. 相似文献

Surface thermodynamic functions (surface entropy, surface enthalpy, and surface composition) of dilute solutions of 2-, 3-, and 4-methylcyclohexanol in ethylene glycol were obtained using surface tension measurements at various temperatures. Surface excess values and surface mole fractions were obtained from Gibbs equation and extended Langmuir model respectively. The results show that all methylcyclohexanols are surface active in ethylene glycol. The lyophobicity of solutes decreases with increasing temperature. The presence of a maximum point in the surface entropy diagram in all systems is explained by the formation of clathrate-like solvates at the surface of these systems. 相似文献

A simple and convenient method of micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MEKC) using polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate (Tween 20) to form single micelle and methanol as a buffer additive was introduced for the simultaneous determination of five polyphenols, including scopoletin, rutin, esculetin, chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid. A running buffer solution of pH 9.3, 20 mmol/L sodium tetraborate containing 64 mmol/L Tween 20 and 9% (v/v) methanol was adopted in the separation. Because rutin and esculetin were difficult to be separated by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) and SDS-based MEKC, Tween 20-based MEKC was adopted and the polyphenols were separated satisfactorily. The proposed method was used to determine the polyphenol components in the herbal medicine of Cortex fraxini. The separation mechanism of Tween 20-based MEKC for the polyphenols was discussed preliminarily. 相似文献

We have carried out a neutron powder diffraction study of deuterated ethylene glycol (1,2-ethanediol), and deuterated ethylene glycol monohydrate with the D2B high-resolution diffractometer at the Institut Laue-Langevin. Using these data, we have refined the complete structure, including all hydrogen atoms, of the anhydrous phase at 220 K. In addition, we have determined the structure of ethylene glycol monohydrate at 210 K using direct space methods. Anhydrous ethylene glycol crystallizes in space-group P2(1)2(1)2(1) with four formula units in a unit-cell of dimensions a = 5.0553(1) ?, b = 6.9627(1) ?, c = 9.2709(2) ?, and V = 326.319(8) ?(3) [ρ(calc)(deuterated) = 1386.26(3) kg m(-3)] at 220 K. Ethylene glycol monohydrate crystallizes in space-group P2(1)/c with four formula units in a unit-cell of dimensions a = 7.6858(3) ?, b = 7.2201(3) ?, c = 7.7356(4) ?, β = 92.868(3)°, and V = 428.73(2) ?(3) [ρ(calc)(deuterated) = 1365.40(7) kg m(-3)] at 210 K. Both the structures are characterized by the gauche conformation of the ethylene glycol molecule; however, the anhydrous phase contains the tGg' rotamer (or its mirror, g'Gt), whereas the monohydrate contains the gGg' rotamer. In the monohydrate, each water molecule is tetrahedrally coordinated, donating two hydrogen bonds to, and accepting two hydrogen bonds from the hydroxyl groups of neighboring ethylene glycol molecules. There are substantial differences in the degree of weak C-D···O hydrogen bonding between the two crystals, which calls into question the role of these interactions in determining the conformation of the ethylene glycol molecule. 相似文献

The influence of the addition of various amounts of ethylene glycol, EG, up to a weight percent of 50%, on the micellization process in N-hexadecyl, N-tetradecyl, and N-dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride micellar solutions was investigated. Conductivity, fluorescence, and spectroscopic measurements give information about changes in the cmc, in the micellar ionization degree, in the aggregation number and in the polarity of the interfacial region upon changing the percentage by weight of the organic solvent. These changes were compared to those found when ethylene glycol was added to the analogous alkyltrimethylammonium bromide aqueous micellar solutions, results showing that the effects caused by the presence of the organic solvent were practically independent of the counterion nature. This conclusion was in agreement with the micellar kinetic effects observed on the spontaneous hydrolysis of phenyl chloroformate in both water-ethylene glycol alkyltrimethylammonium bromide and chloride micellar solutions. 相似文献

利用电导法研究了烷基三甲基溴化铵表面活性剂(CnTAB,n=12,14,16),即十二烷基三甲基溴化铵(DTAB),十四烷基三甲基溴化铵(TTAB)和十六烷基三甲基溴化铵(CTAB),在混合极性溶剂乙二醇/水(体积分数0~40%)中的胶团化行为。考察了温度对胶团形成的影响,应用相分离模型估算了三个表面活性剂的胶团热力学参数。结果表明临界胶团浓度(cmc)和反离子解离度(α)都随乙二醇组分的增加而增大。在乙二醇/水混合溶剂中胶团形成的标准吉布斯自由能相差很小,混合焓都是负值,而混合熵都为正值,说明焓-熵补偿效应在胶团形成中起主导作用。 相似文献

The effect of the addition of commercial epoxy-diane resin ED-20 on the properties of the deformation strength and adhesion of epoxy polymers based on vinylox and ethylene glycol within a wide range of temperatures and concentrations is studied. The effect of curing is shown to depend on the concentration of ethylene glycol, temperature, and curing time. Solvation of ions in concentrated aqueous poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) has been studied from thermodynamic and structural viewpoints using ion-transfer voltammetry at the interface between aqueous and nitrobenzene phases and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS). Systematic changes in the ion-transfer potential from water to aqueous PEG have been confirmed for several ions relative to the corresponding potential of tetraethylammonium ion (Et4N+), which is almost independent of PEG concentration. The results obtained for alkali cations strongly suggest the involvement of their complexation with PEG even in relatively diluted PEG solutions. It has been implied that the solvation circumstances of Br- and ClO4- are drastically altered when the PEG concentration becomes higher than particular critical values (e.g., 30-50% PEG200), where free water molecules are diminished because of the hydration of PEG. XAFS measurements have also been performed for K+ and Br- to get direct evidence for these findings. Although the spectra at the K K-edge clearly indicate the presence of a PEG complex of K+ in relatively diluted PEG solutions ( approximately 33% PEG200), an obvious increase in its ion-transfer potential has been detected at lower PEG concentrations, indicating that complexes formed at the interface rather than in bulk solution are transferred into an organic phase. Br- is fully hydrated in 0-50% PEG solutions, whereas some water molecules are replaced by PEG when the PEG concentration increases. Increasing the PEG concentration causes decreases in the coordination number from 6 in water to 2-3 in neat PEG. Thus, the present approach not only has elucidated the structural and thermodynamic aspects of ionic solvation in aqueous PEG but also has provided the information of the hydration of PEG. 相似文献

Summary The properties of poly(ethylene glycol) 20M (PEG 20M) coated on the hydroxylated surface of Chromaton N AW were investigated by inverse gas chromatography. It was found that the solid form of PEG 20M exhibits partition as the retention mechanism even below its melting range. The contribution of adsorption to the specific retention volume was also determined. It was demonstrated that inverse gas chromatography establishes the existence of a polymer surface layer but precise determination of its thickness is difficult. The limitation of the applicability of inverse gas chromatography results from the structure of the investigated surface layer which is thin and not coherent so that solute molecules can penetrate it. 相似文献

The separation and selectivity of eight aromatic compounds ranging from hydrophilic to hydrophobic properties in micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles or Tween 20-modified mixed micelles were investigated. The effect of different operation conditions such as SDS and Tween 20 modifier surfactant concentration, buffer pH, and applied voltage was studied. The resolution and selectivity of analytes could be markedly affected by changing the SDS micelle concentration or Tween 20 content in the mixed micelles. Applied voltage and pH of running buffers were used mainly to shorten the separation time. Complete separation of eight analytes could be achieved with an appropriate choice of the concentration of SDS micelles or Tween 20-modified mixed micelles. Quicker elution and better precision could be obtained with SDS-Tween 20 mixed micelles than with SDS micelles. The mechanisms that migration order of those analytes was mainly based on their structures and solute-micelle interactions, including hydrophobic, electrostatic, and hydrogen bonding interactions, were discussed. 相似文献

Dilatometric measurements of excess volume VE and ultrasonic speed u have been carried out for mixtures of mono-, di-, tri- and tetra(ethylene glycol)s in pyrrolidin-2-one (PY) over the whole mole fraction range at 303.15 K. In the mixture of PY and monoethylene glycol, the VE is positive except for slight negative variation at the high mole fraction of PY. The other three mixtures PY + di-, + tri- and + tetra(ethylene glycol)s show negative VE over the entire composition range in the order di-u with increase in the mole fraction of PY in the case of monoethylene glycol while for other three systems u rises. From these measurements, partial molar quantities ViE and KS,iE have been calculated and analysed. Estimates of isentropic molar quantity KS equal to −(∂V/∂p)S and its excess counterpart KSE have also been computed. The KSE is positive for mono-, and negative for all the other mixtures over the whole composition range. 相似文献
