According to quantum electrodynamics, the cross section for resonant scattering of radiation on an aggregate of excited atoms can be written as a sum of positive definite terms. This type of structure is not consistent with the Fresnel formulas for the reflection coefficient of radiation from thermally excited media. The difference shows up on a macroscopic level and indicates that semiclassical radiation theory cannot be used. A study of the correlation between elastic scattering and stimulated emission processes clarifies the reason for the discrepancies. The resulting singularities require summing of Feynman diagrams which appear beginning in the sixth order of perturbation theory. A lower bound estimate for the reflection coefficient from a plane layer is given, including processes which violate the statistics of radiation. The contribution of stimulated emission processes caused by the initially scattered photon are examined specifically. An experiment is proposed which would settle the choice of theories. Zh. éksp. A theory is formulated for the elastic scattering of light through quasi-two-dimensional exciton states in a quantum well with randomly uneven walls. The nonlocal exciton susceptibility is expressed in terms of random functions describing the shape of the quantum well boundaries up to and including linear terms in the unevenness height. The resonance elastic scattering cross sections in the presence of arbitrary statistical unevenness are calculated in the Born approximation for all channels in which the initial and final states are represented by an electromagnetic TM or TE mode. The spectral and angular dependences of the scattering probability are calculated with the unevenness characterized by Gaussian correlation functions. It follows from numerical estimates that elastic scattering in quantum wells should be observed for unevenness having an rms height of the order of the thickness of an atomic monolayer. Fiz. Tverd. We examine the processes of resonance Raman scattering of intense electromagnetic radiation by a lumped system of two-level atoms with a constant dipole moment. We calculate the intensity of the sth generated harmonic in a saturating electromagnetic field and the statistical characteristics of this harmonic. The scattering cross section and the Doppler spectrum for electromagnetic waves scattered by the electron density fluctuations of a plasma, where the mean kinetic temperature of the electronsT e may differ from that of the ionsT i , has been obtained among others byFejer, Buneman, Renau, Camnitz andFlood, andSalpeter. These authors use different methods of approach to calculate the autocovariance of the electron number-density fluctuations (from the mean) and then obtain the scattering cross section. Because of the differing results, the methods, concepts, and derivations of the scattering cross section are carefully examined in this paper. It is shown that the short-time dynamical considerations incorporated in the formulation of the statistical theory of the electron number-density fluctuations of the plasma as used by several authors (for instanceFejer, Buneman, Salpeter,) leads to results of limited validity. In addition, a fundamental error in calculating the electron density fluctuations leads these latter authors to an incorrect scattering cross section. The theory of scattering of electromagnetic waves from a plasma, where the electrons arenot in thermal equilibrium with the ions but statistical equilibrium exists, is developed in a general way. The covariance of the number-density fluctuations from the mean of the charged species of the plasma and the scattering cross sectionσ(q) are obtained. In particular it is shown that for a wavelength λ much greater than the effective Debye lengthd, the backscattering cross section increases and approaches complete incoherent scattering asT e /T i increases. This result is explained by noting that in the case of thermal equilibrium, the predicted value of the back-scattering cross section is smaller than that of the backscattering cross section from completely uncorrelated electron density fluctuations because the electrostatic interaction between the charged particles of the plasma, which is a function ofT e andT i , introduces a certain amount of organization in otherwise completely uncorrelated electron density fluctuations. When the mean temperature of the electrons increases relative to that of the ions, the organization introduced in the fluctuations diminishes because of the increasing thermal agitation of the electrons relative to that of the ions, and the backscattering process approaches that of incoherent backscattering (Thomson-type scattering). The spectrum function of incoherent scattering of electromagnetic waves from a nonequilibrium plasma is obtained and some cases of current interest are plotted.  相似文献

The quantum electrodynamics of bilocal fields is used to calculate the triangular Feynman diagrams describing the elastic scattering of a classical electromagnetic wave by an external Coulomb field. The total contribution of the diagrams is nonzero because of the violation of both the Furry theorem (CP or T symmetries) and the Ward identities. The cross section for this scattering process is found for low and high energies. A theory of spontaneous emission and elastic light scattering by quasi-two-dimensional excitons in a quantum well placed in a Fabry-Perot microcavity is developed. The problem is solved by means of electrodynamic Green’s functions with inclusion of fluctuations of the quantum-well width and cavity wall shape treated as a perturbation. General expressions are found in a zero approximation of perturbation theory (plane interfaces) for the radiative decay rates of quasi-two-dimensional excitons and for their energy shifts in the cavity. The boundary conditions for the electromagnetic field are taken into account through the coefficients of inward light reflection from the cavity walls. Resonance contributions to the scattering cross sections, which differ in the polarizations (p or s) of the incident and scattered waves, are derived in the lowest (Born) approximation in quantum-well width fluctuations. The spectral and angular dependences of elastic light scattering are studied numerically for Gaussian and exponential correlation functions. It is shown that the contribution from quantum-well width fluctuations to light scattering exceeds that due to single interfaces (surfaces) of a heterostructure by two orders of magnitude.  相似文献

The photodetachment cross section of H~- in a linear harmonic oscillator potential is investigated. This system provides a rare example that can be studied analytically by both quantum and semiclassical methods with some approximations. The formulas of the cross section for different laser polarization directions are explicitly derived by both the traditional quantum approach and closed-orbit theory. In the traditional quantum approach, we calculate the cross sections in coordinate representation and momentum representation, and get the same formulas. We compare the quantum formulas with closed-orbit theory formulas, and find that when the detachment electron energy is larger than3/2hω, where ω is the frequency of the oscillator potential, the quantum results are shown to be in good agreement with the semiclassical results.  相似文献

An analytical solution is presented for the electromagnetic scattering from an infinite-length metallic carbon nanotube and a carbon nanotube bundle. The scattering field and scattering cross section are predicted using a modal technique based on a Bessel and Hankel function for the electric line source and a quantum conductance function for the carbon nanotube. For the particular case of an isolated armchair (10, 10) carbon nanotube, the scattered field predicted from this technique is in excellent agreement with the measured result. Furthermore, the analysis indicates that the scattering pattern of an isolated carbon nanotube differs from that of the carbon nanotube bundle of identical index (m, n) metallic carbon nanotubes.  相似文献

This work provides an overview of our recent results in studying two most important and widely discussed quantum processes: electron-positron pairs production off a probe photon propagating through a polarized short-pulsed electromagnetic (e.g. laser) wave field or generalized Breit–Wheeler process, and a single a photon emission off an electron interacting with the laser pules, so-called non-linear Compton scattering. We show that the probabilities of particle production in both processes are determined by interplay of two dynamical effects, where the first one is related to the shape and duration of the pulse and the second one is non-linear dynamics of the interaction of charged fermions with a strong electromagnetic field. We elaborate suitable expressions for the production probabilities and cross sections, convenient for studying evolution of the plasma in presence of strong electromagnetic fields.  相似文献

We present a discussion of the interaction of low energy electrons with surface lattice vibrations, with emphasis on the role played in this interaction by electric field fluctuations set up outside the crystal by the lattice vibration. We review briefly the experimental data presently available, along with theoretical interpretations that have been offered. We also examine in a manner more general than earlier discussions the contribution to the small angle scattering cross section from scattering by electric field fluctuations. After certain assumptions are introduced, we find that this contribution to the cross section is proportional to Im [1 + ?(Ω)]?1, where ?(Ω) is the frequency dependent dielectric constant of the material. We also exhibit an expression for the cross section for scattering from electric field fluctuations set up by particle—hole excitations.  相似文献

Relations between the position of the first diffraction minima and the fiber diameter are derived based on the solution of the problem of electromagnetic wave diffraction on a transparent fiber with a circular cross section. The obtained formulas are used to measure the fiber diameter. The diffraction pattern is recorded with a digital camera. Mesoscopic damped double resonance mutual capacitance coupled RLC circuit is quantized by the method of damped harmonic oscillator quantization. The Hamiltonian is diagonalized by unitary transformation. The eigenenergy spectra of this circuit are given. The quantum fluctuations of the charges and current of each loop are researched in excitation state of the squeezed vacuum state, the squeezed vacuum state and in vacuum state. It is show that, the quantum fluctuations of the charges and current are related to not only circuit inherent parameter and coupled magnitude, but also quantum number of excitation, squeezed coefficients, squeezed angle and damped resistance. The multiphoton Compton scattering in a high-intensity laser beam is studied by using the laser-dressed quantum electrodynamics(QED) method, which is a non-perturbative theory for the interaction between a plane electromagnetic field and a charged particle. In order to analyze in the real experimental condition, a Lorentz transformation for the cross section of this process is derived between the laboratory frame and the initial rest frame of electrons. The energy of the scattered photon is analyzed, as well as the cross sections for different laser intensities and polarizations and different electron velocities. The angular distribution of the emitted photon is investigated in a special velocity of the electron, in which for a fixed number of absorbed photons, the electron energy will not change after the scattering in the lab frame.We obtain the conclusion that higher laser intensities suppress few-laser-photon absorption and enhance more-laser-photon absorption. A comparison between different polarizations is also made, and we find that the linearly polarized laser is more suitable to generate nonlinear Compton scattering.  相似文献

研究了球形目标之间的电磁相互作用,得到了目标二次散射场的表达式,给出了目标的复合散射场以及双站复合散射截面,并在Ku波段进行了数值仿真.结果表明:目标的尺寸对前向散射和后向散射均有较大的影响,周围目标的影响呈现出一定的周期性,二次散射随着目标间距的增大而减小,周围目标离前向散射方向越近,对前向散射的影响也越大.目标的二次散射场与一次散射场强度之比在10-4数量级以上.在研究多粒子的相互影响时,周围的粒子可近似看作尺寸一定的粒子.利用所得结果以及坐标变换可以研究三维体系内粒子间的电磁相 关键词: 散射截面 二次电磁散射 电磁相互作用  相似文献

The two-time Green's function method in quantum electrodynamics of high-Z few-electron atoms is described in detail. This method provides a simple procedure for deriving formulas for the energy shift of a single level and for the energies and wave functions of degenerate and quasi-degenerate states. It also allows one to derive formulas for the transition and scattering amplitudes. Application of the method to resonance scattering processes yields a systematic theory for the spectral line shape. The practical ability of the method is demonstrated by deriving formulas for the QED and interelectronic-interaction corrections to energy levels and transition and scattering amplitudes in one-, two-, and three-electron atoms. Numerical calculations of the Lamb shift, the hyperfine splitting, the bound-electron g factor, and the radiative recombination cross section in heavy ions are also reviewed.  相似文献
