We studied the track response for the copolymer of CR-39 monomer with N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) as well as etching properties. It was found that copoly (CR-39/NIPAAm/Naugard 445) composed in wieght ratio of 99/1/0.01 is highly sensitive to low LET particles in the region below 10 keV/μm of LET
and able to record normally incident particles of LET
down to 1.5 keV/μm, recording protons up to the energy of 27 MeV. These results were compared with the responses for two types of CR-39 detectors containing a small quantity of antioxidant. The threshold energy proton registration is discussed. 相似文献

Recently, space radiation dosimetry measurements were made by passive and active detectors inside the Spacelab [STS-47 (FMPT): 300km, 57°, STS-65 (IML-2 mission): 300km, 28.5°]. The LET distributions obtained by antioxidant doped CR-39 inside the Spacelab were compared with those measured by the tissue equivalent proportional counter (TEPC) and the real time radiation monitoring device (RRMD) consisting of eight silicon detectors. While both distributions by CR-39 are in good agreement with those obtained by active detectors over the region of LET of several tens to 200 keV/μm, a significant difference in the LET region of smaller than several tens keV/μm is seen. It is considered to be caused by the dip angle dependence of track formation sensitivity in CR-39. The track formation sensitivity for different dip angle were measured for several high heavy energy ions. Using these results, the correction for the dip angle was made for the LET distribution. The corrected result is consistent with the results obtained by active detectors. 相似文献

The neutron response of electrochemically etched (ECE) CR-39 detectors is determined by the energy and angular dependence of the response to neutron-induced charged particles. This response has been measured for the example of protons with various initial energies and angles of incidence. Besides, some studies were made for modeling the mechanism of ECE of the proton trajectories with the aim of deriving the critical angle of incidence. 相似文献

The response of CR-39 detector has been obtained precisely for protons, deuterons, tritons, alpha-particles and lithiumions with energies of a few MeV/nucleon. The track etch rates were determined from the growth curves of pit radius and summarized as the response functions. The accuracy of this method is high enough to discriminate among hydrogen isotopes under a certain condition. The correlation between the response and LET with various cut-off energies has also been examined. It was found that LET is not an unique parameter describing the response function adequately for different ions by the same expression. 相似文献

Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) has been applied to evaluate the surface roughness and the track sensitivity of CR-39 track detector. We experimentally confirmed the inverse correlation between the track sensitivity and the roughness of the detector surface after etching. The surface of CR-39 (CR-39 doped with antioxidant (HARZLAS (TD-1)) and copolymer of CR-39/NIPAAm (TNF-1)) with high sensitivity becomes rough by the etching, while the pure CR-39 (BARYOTRAK) with low sensitivity keeps its original surface clarity even for the long etching. 相似文献

In this paper, the previous modeling of protons and alpha particles tracks depth in CR-39 nuclear track detectors was extensively extended to describe tracks of heavier ions. These ions include deuteron, lithium, boron, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen. Based on a compilation of published experimental results related to these ions, a set of empirical fitted model parameters is obtained for each type of ion. The A dependence of these model parameters is obtained. 相似文献

In the Laboratory of Nuclear Microanalysis, we have developed two techniques for neutron dosimetry; the first for low fluence, the second for high fluence. These two techniques use a Solid State Nuclear Track Detector (SSNTD): the CR-39. The low fluence technique is based on the measurement of etched tracks resulting from a neutron-proton conversion. A Monte Carlo code performs a simulation of the (n,p) collision in the detector, and a numerical computer code of latent track etching allows the evaluation of the etched track parameters. The object of this is to obtain characteristics of a neutron fluence from the measured etched track parameters. When there is a high fluence and high doses, CR-39 is unsuited for optical microscopy analysis. This is because of track overlapping which makes it impossible to carry out counting and exploitation. We have therefore developed a new method permitting the reading of samples based on the measurement of the angular distribution of coherent light (He---Ne laser) transmitted through the irradiated etched SSNTD. We present these two techniques and our initial results. 相似文献

Preliminary results of feasibility study to apply atomic force microscope (AFM) to the quantitative analysis for minute etch pits on CR-39 are reported comparing with the optical microscope observation. The growth curves of the Si track diameter and length obtained by both technqiues were discussed in relation to the track sensitivity and the etch induction time. 相似文献

This work studies the alpha particle radiography technique in conjunction with the CR-39 SSNTD. The irradiations were made in the CV-28 cyclotron at IEN/CNEN/RJ using a 7 MeV/nucleon alpha particle beam. The best etch time to obtain radiographs was determined as six hours. A calibration curve was obtained, so to allow a quantitative interpretation of the images to be performed. Its behavior was checked by several experiments with other energy degrading materials. Several radiographs of “in-vitro” biological specimens were obtained. The results showed the potential capability of this technique for studies in paleontology. 相似文献

The effect of infrared radiation on the etching characteristics of CR-39 plastic track recorder has been studied. CR-39, which is commonly employed in cosmic rays studies is found to be affected by IR radiations. The changes in the bulk etch rate, in the track etch rate and in etching efficiency due to infrared radiation exposure of CR-39 are discussed on the basis of scission and cross linking during infrared exposure. 相似文献

To design a new radon gas dosemeter, the knowledge of the SSNTD α counting efficiency is essential. It depends primarily on the energy and incidence angle into the detector, then on the etching conditions and finally on the track counting procedure. Therefore the elicited efficiency function represents all these factors. The detectors were exposed to α particles at different angles of incidence and energies, by using a 244Cm source; two alternative NaOH solution etching conditions were tested, 6.25 N 70°C at 6 and 12 h, respectively. The counting was performed with a light microscope, 267×, and with an automatic track analysis procedure. The critical incidence angle dependance on energy, in our standard condition (6 h), resulted θ C( E)=380.0e (−0.286•(E−0.050))(1−e (−0.186•(E−0.050))), and it was used to design our new radon gas holder. 相似文献

The effect of post-irradiation treatment of CR-39 track detector in carbon dioxide atmosphere on the alpha particle registration sensitivity was investigated. Significant increase in etch rate ratio for 6.1 MeV 252Cf alpha particle was observed. The sensitization increasedboth as a function of trating time and as a function of carbon dioxide pressure in the treating vessel. Energy dependence of the sensitization was found to be small in the 2–9 MeV alpha particle energy interval. Fading of latent tracks after the sensitization process was slow in a one day period. Pre-irradiation treatment in carbon dioxide showed also some sensitization, though to a lesser extent than post-irradiation treatment. However, exposing CR-39 alpha particles in pure carbon dioxide atmosphere resulted in dramatic decrease in sensitivity. The role of dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide in the primary latent track formation and in post-irradiation latent track transformation is discussed. Potential influence of the application of sensitization of CR-39 in radon, neutron and cosmic ray charged particle dosimetry is also discussed. 相似文献

In the present paper the sensitivity V of plastic nuclear track detectors CR-39 to the space radiation, accelerated heavy ions in wide LET range and α-particles is studied. Different approaches for V evaluation are considered and compared. Main attention is given to the method that is appropriate for the measurement of short range heavy secondaries of space radiation. Finally, the experimental verification of the designed V function is carried out via simulation of the secondaries with low energy α-particles in the vicinity of the Bragg peak. 相似文献

Yields of CO 2 gas formation and the scissions at ether bonds have been determined along ion tracks in CR-39 plastics. Thin CR-39 films with thickness were irradiated by 130 MeV C-13 ions at 45 incidence up to , and then IR spectra were obtained without removing the samples from the vacuum chamber. The absorption band for CO 2 was observed clearly around , whose absorbance increased proportional to the fluence up to 3×10 12 ions/cm 2 and then saturated. Using a mole absorption coefficient for gaseous CO 2, the yield along the track was determined to be molecules/μm. This means that the G-value of CO 2 formation in CR-39 was about 3.6 molecules/100 eV. The scission yield of ether bonds was found to be 11,000 scissions/μm. This corresponds to a G-value of about 5.5 scissions/100 eV. These values suggest that the parts between the two carbonate ester bonds in each repeat unit of CR-39 can be segmented into two CO 2 and other small molecules along the nuclear tracks. 相似文献

One of the challenging tasks in the application of solid-state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs) is the measurement of the depth of the tracks, in particular, the shallow ones resulting from short etching periods. In the present work, a method is proposed to prepare replicas of tracks from particles in the CR-39 SSNTDs and to measure their heights using atomic force microscopy (AFM). After irradiation, the detectors were etched in a 6.25 N aqueous solution of NaOH maintained at 70 °C. The etched detectors were immersed into a beaker of the replicating fluid, which was placed in a water bath under ultrasonic vibration and maintained at room temperature to facilitate the filling of the etched tracks with the replicating fluid. As an example of application, these results have been used to derive a V function for the CR-39 detectors used in the present study (for the specified etching conditions). 相似文献

Computation of etched track profiles needs the knowledge of the variable track etch rates along the ion trajectories. Using the depth-dependent track etch rates experimentally determined for perpendicularly incident protons, deuterons and alpha particles as well as 7Li, 11B, 12C, 14N and 16O ions of different energies simulations of the track development were performed. Two models of track etching were applied for that purpose recently published in literature. Although the models are based on the same physical fundamentals the results are slightly different. The reasons of the discrepancies were found by analysing the algorithms in detail. Comparison of the calculated track profiles with those determined experimentally from longitudinal sections of the etch pits showed good agreement for non-overetched as well as overetched tracks. The consistency of the whole experimental data set was checked by analysing the correlation of the track etch rates with geometric track parameters for all kinds of ions and etching times covered by the experiments. 相似文献

A review was given for our recent studies on the latent tracks in CR-39 nuclear track detector. The radial size of track core has been determined through UV spectral measurements combined to the model of track overlapping and by AFM observations of slightly etched detectors. The track core radius was found to be about a few nano-meters and almost proportional to the cubic root of stopping power. As a control study, the etching properties of CR-39, irradiated by low-LET radiation, has been examined. The observed depth dependence and dose-rate dependence of the bulk etch rate of the irradiated CR-39 were explained that the damage formation process was governed by the reaction between the radiation induced radicals and the oxygen supplied from the air. This indicated that latent tracks in CR-39 are produced through local radiation induced oxidation process along the ion paths. Studies on vibration spectra, near-IR, FT-IR and Raman spectra, of CR-39 have also been carried out to estimate the chemical structure of the latent tracks. The creation of OH group in irradiated CR-39 has been confirmed. 相似文献

In this work, new empirical equation describing the charged particles radiation track development against etching time and track longitudinal depth are presented. The equation involves four free fitting parameters. It is shown that this equation can reproduce tracks depth formed on the CR-39 by alpha particles at different energies and etching times. Parameters values obtained from experimental data can be used to predict etched track lengths at different energies and etching times. The empirical equation suggested is self consistent as far as reproducing all features of track depth development as a function of etching time and energy are concerned. 相似文献

Two subjects have been studied for establishing an efficient detection technique applicable to neutrons with an energy higher than 20 MeV, for which personnel dosimetry becomes more important especially in space activities and radiation protection around high-energy accelerators. A performance of a new sensitive detector, recently developed copolymer of CR-39 and N-isopropylacrylamide, was checked in a D–T neutron field. It was confirmed experimentally that its sensitivity was several times as high as a pure CR-39 in the radiator effect and more than twice in the total efficiency. In the other experiment, CR-39 samples were exposed to 65 MeV quasi-monoenergetic neutrons, and the registration characteristics have been investigated from a fundamental point of view. The particles recorded were divided into three groups of proton relatives, -particles and heavy ions by applying the growth curve method and the multi-step etching technique. The measured fractions were in good agreement with the values calculated by SSNERS code previously developed. 相似文献
