The nature of carrier reflection from a normal metal-Peierls conductor interface is clarified by studying the characteristics
of point contacts formed with an intermediate metallic layer sputtered onto the (010) face of K0.3MoO3 crystals (injection along the chains) or the
face (injection perpendicular to the chains). In the Peierls state, for bias voltages eV smaller than the Peierls gap ΔP, an excess differential resistance is observed with a local minimum at V=0. The magnitude of the excess resistance is proportional to a
2/d
2, where a is the contact diameter and d is the thickness of the metal film. The excess resistance is much higher for injection along the chains than for injection
perpendicular to them. A comparative analysis of the data for different injection directions indicates that the dominant contribution
to the excess resistance for injection along the chains is from normal reflection of carriers without changes in the sign
of their charge and with a momentum transfer 2p
F
to the condensate of electron-hole pairs carried away from the interface.

We present an experimental study of non-linear selective reflection (SR) at a quartz–Cs-vapor interface in a V-type three-level
scheme. The non-linear selective reflection at the Cs D2 resonance line (6
S
1/2F=4→6
P
3/2) is monitored with and without pumping. The sub-Doppler reflection spectrum is observed and the effect of pumping on the
signal of the selective reflection is investigated. The experimental result is in agreement with the theoretical calculation.

We studied selective reflection (SR) of laser radiation from a window of a nanocell with thickness L ~ λ1,2/2 filled with Rb and Cs atoms, where λ1 = 780 nm and λ2 = 852 nm are the wavelengths resonant with the D2 laser lines for Rb and Cs, respectively. It is demonstrated that the negative derivative of the SR signal profile for L > λ/2 changes to the positive one for L < λ/2. It is shown that the real-time formation of the SR signal profile derivative (SRD) with the spectral width 30–40 MHz and located at the atomic transition is, in particular, a convenient frequency marker of D2 transitions in Rb and Cs. The amplitudes of SRD signals are proportional to the atomic transition probabilities. A comparison with the known saturated absorption (SA) method demonstrated a number of advantages, such as the absence of cross-over resonances in the SRD spectrum, the simplicity of realization, a low required power, etc. An SRD frequency marker also operates in the presence of the Ne buffer gas at a pressure of 6 Torr, which allowed us to determine the Ne–Rb collisional broadening, whereas the SA method is already inapplicable at buffer gas pressures above 0.1 Torr. The realization simplicity makes the SRD method a convenient tool for atomic spectroscopy. Our theoretical model well describes the SRD signal. 相似文献

Nonspecular reflection at a nonlinear-linear dielectric interface with local Kerr nonlinearity is analyzed. The Fresnel reflectivity and the variational solution are explicitly given in a closed form. We demonstrate a new approach to Four Wave Mixing spectroscopy involving simultaneous measurements at time and frequency domains, where spectral selectivity is achieved by phase matching filtering, and the time resolution is obtained within a single ultra-short pulse. We analyze the Four Wave Mixing signal, and show that our method is capable for discrimination between different spectroscopic pathways of vibrational coherences modulating the scattered signal. 相似文献

By utilizing a rigorous plane-wave representation, we investigate the basic wave mechanism that is responsible for both the
lateral (Goos-H?nchen) shift of a gaussian light beam incident from a denser medium upon the interface to a rarer medium,
and the weak radiance that accompanies the reflected beam. We thus find that the complete reflected field contains a geometric-optics
component, whose domain is given by the mirror reflection of the incident beam, as well as a lateral-wave component which
occupies a much larger domain. Our results show that the near field of the lateral-wave component interferes with the geometric-optics
component and thereby produces the Goos-H?nchen shift of the reflected beam. The intermediate and far fields of the lateral-wave,
on the other hand, are responsible for the weak radiance that trails the reflected beam. By demonstrating that both the beam
shift and the trailing radiance represent two facets of the same wave process, the lateral-wave field is shown to provide
a unified interpretation of two effects that have previously been regarded as separate phenomena. The dependence of these
effects on beam width, angle of incidence, and polarization are also considered.

We investigate total internal reflection of nonlocal spatial optical solitons at the interface between two differently oriented regions of a highly birefringent nematic liquid crystal. The solitons survive the interaction with an induced index mismatch and undergo nonspecular reflection, with an emerging angle differing appreciably from the incidence angle. 相似文献

The spectral structure of a three-dimensional X-wave pulse incident on a planar surface of discontinuity is examined. Introducing a novel superposition of azimuthally dependent pulsed plane waves, it is shown for oblique incidence that the reflected pulse has a localized wave structure. On the other hand, the transmitted field maintains its localization up to a certain distance from the interface, beyond which it starts disintegrating. An estimate of the localization range of the transmitted pulse is established; also, the parameters affecting the localization range are identified. The reflected and transmitted fields are deduced for X-waves incident from either a slower medium or a faster one. For the former case the evanescent fields in the second medium are calculated and their explicit time dependence is deduced for a normally incident X-wave. Furthermore, at near-critical incidence the transmitted pulse exhibits significant pulse compression and focusing. 相似文献

We report on the analysis of FM selective reflection experiments on the 6S
1/2 → 8P
3/2 transition of Cs at 388 nm, and on the measurement of the surface van der Waals interaction exerted by a sapphire interface
on Cs(8P
3/2). Various improvements in the systematic fitting of the experiments have permitted us to supersede the major difficulty of
a severe overlap of the hyperfine components, originating, on the one hand, in a relatively small natural structure, and,
on the other hand, on a large pressure broadening imposed by the high atomic density needed for the observation of selective
reflection on a weak transition. The strength of the van der Waals surface interaction is evaluated to be 73 ± 10 kHz μm3. An evaluation of the pressure shift of the transition is also provided as a by-product of the measurement. Finally, we discuss
the significance of an apparent disagreement between the experimental measurement of the surface interaction, and the theoretical
value calculated for an electromagnetic vacuum at a null temperature. The possible influence of the thermal excitation of
the surface is evoked, because the dominant contributions to the van der Waals interaction for Cs(8P
3/2) lie in the far-infrared range.

We theoretically present the nonlinear selective reflection spectroscopy of V‐type atomic system at gas‐solid interface in a pump‐probe scheme. The saturation and coherence effects are distinguished by solving Liouville equation in the absence and presence of reduced density matrix element between the two excited levels. When the coherence effect exists, two peaks appear in reflection spectroscopy with asymmetry lineshape. We investigate the dependence of reflection spectroscopy on pump field intensity, frequency detuning and coherent decay rate induced by collision between atoms. The lineshape can be explained based on reflection spectroscopy contributed from atoms with negative (before collision) and positive (after collision) velocities, single‐photon and two‐photon processes. This study is helpful for investigating quantum coherence and dynamic processes of atoms at gas‐solid interface. 相似文献

Positively ionized monolayers of a viologen derivative, namely 1,1′-dioctadecyl-4,4′-bipyridilium (C18V2+), were prepared onto aqueous solutions of a tetracyanoquinodimethanide salt, , where the tetracyanoquinodimethanide anions are in a mixed valence state. UV-vis reflection spectroscopy has been used for proving in situ the incorporation of tetracyanoquinodimethanide anions into the viologen monolayer. The UV-vis spectra clearly show the presence of a band in the 550-850 nm region that is not visible in viologen monolayers fabricated onto a pure water subphase. Moreover, a charge-transfer interaction between the two molecules occurs at the air-water interface. A simultaneous quantitative analysis of the two active molecules in the UV-vis region has facilitated the investigation of the viologen tetracyanoquinodimethanide hybrid monolayers. An organization model at the air-water interface consistent with the reflection spectroscopy data has been proposed where a parallel arrangement of the viologen dications and anions is assumed. The ratio of the two materials in the monolayer was also determined and resulted to be , i.e. stoichiometry of charges. This ratio decreases after a noticeable kink in the π-A isotherm, and has been interpreted as a reorganization of the molecules in the monolayer leading to an ejection of some ions from the interface to the subphase, probably due to steric hindrance. 相似文献
