The two-dimensional, laminar boundary-layer equations of heat, mass and momentum at a smooth, phase-changing, gas-liquid interface are solved numerically by the Keller Box method. The gas and liquid regimes are embedded in a single marching scheme which computes interfacial parameters implicitly. Results of both self-similar and non-similar boundary-layer computations are presented and effects of mild pressure gradient, a mean current in the liquid, and free-stream vapour concentration on the interfacial parameters are analysed. In order to assess the accuracy of the method, several self-similar problems are solved by Runge-Kutta integration and results are compared to those obtained by the finite-difference scheme. Agreement is excellent in all cases.  相似文献

A computational procedure for compressible axisymmetric boundary layers, on bodies of revolution, in transition from laminar to turbulent flow, is introduced. The procedure is an extension of a former method, due to Patankar and Spalding. The flow field is computed by solution of four simultaneous equations for the momentum, the thermal energy, the turbulence energy amplitude and the turbulent scale. The results show good agreement with existing theoretical and experimental data.  相似文献

Fluctuating skin friction is measured in two- and three-dimensional turbulent boundary layers using a MEMS sensor and a wall-wire as reference. Skewness, flatness and spectra of the turbulent skin friction are presented to demonstrate the potential and limitations of the MEMS sensor. The measured turbulence intensities of the order of 0.4 are in general agreement with a number of experimental and DNS studies. However, the fluctuating quantities measured with this MEMS sensor, operated at an over-heat ratio of 1.3, are shown to depend on the Reynolds number or mean skin friction. Therefore, such a high over-heat ratio, which was proven to dramatically increase the accuracy of mean skin friction measurements in a previous study by the authors, may not be appropriate for the measurement of fluctuating wall-shear with MEMS sensors, particularly at low mean shear values.  相似文献

This paper reports on the outcome of a workshop of the IAHR Working Group on Refined Modelling of Flows on the subject of computing laminar flows in complex geometries. Flow inside a channel with a smooth expansion was chosen by the organizers of the workshop as a suitable test case for assessing the capabilities of current numerical methods. The results obtained by fifteen participant groups are presented and compared against a suitable benchmark solution. The most important considerations that emerged at the workshop are briefly reported and the conclusions arising from an analysis and comparison of the various solutions are finally provided.  相似文献

The lag-entrainment method, which is a well-established integral method for predicting the development of turbulent boundary layers, is used in this study to predict two-dimensional turbulent separated flow. The method is used in an inverse mode, in which the displacement thickness is specified together with other integral parameters of the boundary layer. It is concluded that the prediction of two-dimensional separated flow by an integral method is feasible, but there is a need for accurate data for both equilibrium and general separated flows for making a comparison.  相似文献

Asymptotic analysis of boundary layer separation in the limit of large Reynolds number Re→∞ has shown that in a number of cases which are of importance from a practical point of view solutions of the resulting interaction equations describing two-dimensional (2-D) steady flows exist up to a limiting value Γc of the relevant controlling parameter Γ only while two branches of solutions exist in a regime Γ<Γc. The present study aims at a better understanding of near critical flows |Γ-Γc|→0 and in particular the changes of the flow behaviour associated with the passage of Γ through Γc.  相似文献

The Dorodnitsyn boundary later formulation is given a finite element interpretation and found to generate very accurate and economical solutions when combined with an implicit, non-iterative marching scheme in the downstream direction. The algorithm is of order (Δ2u, Δx) whether linear or quadratic elements are used across the boundary layer. Solutions are compared with a Dorodnitsyn spectral formulation and a conventional finite difference formulation for three Falkner-Skan pressure gradient cases and the flow over a circular cylinder. With quadratic elements the Dorodnitsyn finite element formulation is approximately five times more efficient than the conventional finite difference formulation.  相似文献

This work applies resolvent analysis to compressible zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers with freestream Mach numbers between 2 and 4, focusing exclusively on large scale motions in the outer region of the boundary layer. We investigate the effects of Mach number on predicted flow structures, and in particular, look at how such effects may be attributed to changes in mean properties. By leveraging the similarity between the compressible and incompressible resolvent operators, we show that the shape of the streamwise velocity and temperature components of resolvent response modes in the compressible regime can be approximated by applying ideas from wavepacket pseudospectral theory to a simple scalar operator. This gives a means of predicting the shape of resolvent mode components for compressible flows without requiring the singular value decompositions of discretized operators. At a Mach number of 2, we find that accurate results are obtained from this approximation when using the compressible mean velocity profile. At Mach numbers of 3 and 4, the quantitative accuracy of these predictions is improved by also considering a local effective Reynolds number based on the local mean density and viscosity.  相似文献

The non-linear two-point boundary value problem for three-dimensional compressible boundary layers is solved through the application of a boundary value technique for a range of parameters characterizing the nature of stagnation point flows. The analytical boundary conditions, at infinity, are applied at the edge of the computational mesh with iterations on the size of the domain. The solutions obtained show excellent agreement with the established similarity solutions for three-dimensional flows. The present method has the potential advantage of yielding the wall values of fw, gw and θ′w as a part of the solution, contrary to the previously used ‘shooting’ methods. The algorithm is computationally simple and numerically stable and extremely suitable for engineering design applications.  相似文献

The applicability of a finite element-differential method to the computation of steady two-dimensional low-speed, transonic and supersonic turbulent boundary-layer flows is investigated. The turbulence model chosen for the Reynolds shear stress and turbulent heat flux is the K-? two-equation model. Calculations are extended up to the wall and the exact values of the dependent variables at the wall are used as boundary conditions. A number of transformations are carried out and the assumed solutions at a longitudinal station are represented by complete cubic spline functions. In essence, the method converts the governing partial differential equations into a system of ordinary differential equations by a weighted residuals method and invokes an ordinary differential equation solver for the numerical integration of the reduced initial-value problem. The results of the computations reveal that the method is highly accurate and efficient. Furthermore, the accuracy and applicability of the k-? turbulence model are examined by comparing results of the computations with experimental data. The agreement is very good.  相似文献

The algebraic turbulent model of Baldwin and Lomax was incorporated into the incompressible full Navier–Stokes code FIDAP. This model was extensively tested in the past in finite difference codes. We believe that the incorporation of the model also into the finite element code has resulted in a practical method to compute a variety of separated turbulent 2D flows. Firstly, we use the model to compute the attached flow about an aerofoil. Next, the application of the model to separated flows is presented by computing the flows at high angles of attack up to maximum lift. It is shown that the model is capable of predicting separation, steady stall and CLmax. As a difficult test of the model we compute the laminar separation bubble development directly using the full Navier–Stokes finite element code. As far as we know, this approach has not yet been reported. The importance of using an appropriate upwinding is discussed. When possible, comparison of computed results with experiments is presented and the agreement is good.  相似文献

The two-layer modeling approach has become one of the most promising and successful methodology for simulating turbulent boundary layers in the past ten years. In the present study, a mixed wall model for large-eddy simulations (LES) of high-speed flows is proposed which combine two approaches; the thin-Boundary Layer Equations (TBLE) model of Kawai and Larsson (1994) and the analytical wall-layer model of Duprat et al. (2011) for streamwise pressure gradients. The new hybrid model has been efficiently implemented into a three-dimensional compressible LES solver and validated against DNS of a spatially-evolving supersonic boundary layer (BL) under moderate and strong pressure gradients, before being employed for the prediction of nozzle flow separations at different flow conditions, ranging from weakly to highly over-expanded regimes. A good agreement is obtained in terms of mean and fluctuating quantities compared to the DNS results. Particularly, the current wall-modeled LES results are found to perfectly match the DNS data of supersonic BL with/out pressure gradient. It is also shown that the model can account for the effect of the large-scale turbulent motions of the outer layer, indicating a good interaction between the inner and the outer part of the wall layer. In terms of simulations costs and improvements of computing power, the obtained results highlight the capability of the current wall-modeling LES strategy in saving a considerable amount of computational time compared to the wall-resolved LES counterpart, allowing to push further the simulations limits. Furthermore, the application of these computationally low-costly LES simulations to nozzle flow separation allows to clearly identify the origin of the shock unsteadiness, and the existence of broadband and energetically-significant low-frequency oscillations (LFO) in the vicinity of the separation region.  相似文献

The effect of small viscosity on nearly inviscid flows of an incompressible fluid through a given domain with permeable boundary is studied. The Vishik–Lyusternik method is applied to construct a boundary layer asymptotic at the outlet in the limit of vanishing viscosity. Mathematical problems with both consistent and inconsistent initial and boundary conditions at the outlet are considered. It is shown that in the former case, the viscosity leads to a boundary layer only at the outlet. In the latter case, in the leading term of the expansion there is a boundary layer at the outlet and there is no boundary layer at the inlet, but in higher order terms another boundary layer appears at the inlet. To verify the validity of the expansion, a number of simple examples are presented. The examples demonstrate that asymptotic solutions are in quite good agreement with exact or numerical solutions.  相似文献

Direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of spatially developing turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) over sparsely-spaced two-dimensional (2D) rod-roughened walls were performed. The rod elements were periodically arranged along the streamwise direction with pitches of px/k = 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128, where px is the streamwise spacing of the rods, and k is the roughness height. The Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness was varied from Reθ = 300–1400, and the height of the roughness element was k = 1.5θin, where θin is the momentum thickness at the inlet. The characteristics of the TBLs, such as the friction velocity, mean velocity, and Reynolds stresses over the rod-roughened walls, were examined by varying the spacing of the roughness features (8  px/k  128). The outer-layer similarity between the rough and smooth walls was established for the sparsely-distributed rough walls (px/k  32) based on the profiles of the Reynolds stresses, whereas those are not for px/k = 8 and 16. Inspection of the interaction between outer-layer large-scale motions and near-wall small-scale motions using two-point amplitude modulation (AM) covariance showed that modulation effect of large-scale motions on near-wall small-scale motions was strongly disturbed over the rough wall for px/k = 8 and 16. For px/k  32, the flow that passed through the upstream roughness element transitioned to a smooth wall flow between the consecutive rods. The strong influence of the surface roughness in the outer layer for px/k = 8 and 16 was attributed to large-scale erupting motions by the surface roughness, creating both upward shift of the near-wall turbulent energy and active energy production in the outer layer with little influence on the near-wall region.  相似文献

Near-wall measurements are performed to study the effects of surface roughness and viscous shear stresses on the transitionally rough regime (5 < k + < 70) of a zero pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer. The x-dependence is known from the eleven consecutive measurements in the streamwise direction, which allows for the computation of the streamwise gradients in the boundary layer equations. Thus, the skin friction is computed from the integrated boundary layer equation with errors of 3 and 5% for smooth and rough, respectively. It is found that roughness destroys the viscous layer near the wall, thus, reducing the contribution of the viscous stress in the wall region. As a result, the contribution in the wall shear stress due to form drag increases, while the viscous stress decreases. This yields Reynolds number invariance in the skin friction as k + increases into the fully rough regime. Furthermore, the roughness at the wall reduces the high peak of the streamwise component of the Reynolds stress in the near-wall region. However, for the Reynolds wall-normal and shear stress components, its contribution is not significantly altered for sand grain roughness.  相似文献

The paper describes a numerical method for the prediction of condensing steam flow within compressible boundary layers. The method is based on a simple stream function technique, which enables straightforward integration of the nucleation and droplet growth equations in a Lagrangian frame of reference. Calculations show how viscous dissipation and reduced expansion rate within a typical boundary layer influence nucleation and growth, leading to droplet radii and size distributions that differ substantially from those predicted in inviscid flow. The impact of condensation on temperature and velocity profiles, and the implications for thermodynamic loss are also considered.  相似文献

This is an experimental study on the boundary layer over an airfoil under steady and unsteady conditions. It specifically deals with the effect of plunging oscillation on the laminar/turbulent characteristics of the boundary layer. The wind tunnel measurements involved surfacemounted hot-film sensors and boundary-layer rake. The experiments were conducted at Reynolds numbers of 0.42×10 6 to 0.84 × 10 6 and the reduced frequency was varied from 0.01 to 0.11.The results of the quasi-wall-shear stress as well as the boundary layer velocity profiles provided important information about the state of the boundary layer over the suction surface of the airfoil in both static and dynamic cases. For the static tests, boundary layer transition occurred through a laminar separation bubble.By increasing the angle of attack, disturbances and the transition location moved toward the leading edge. For the dynamic tests, earlier transition occurred with increasing rather than decreasing effective angle of attack. The mean angle of attack and the oscillating parameters significantly affected the state of the boundary layer.By increasing the reduced frequency, the boundary layer transition was promoted to the upstroke portion of the equivalent angle of attack, but the quasi skin friction coefficient was decreased.  相似文献

We have conducted direct numerical simulations of a turbulent boundary layer for the momentum-thickness-based Reynolds number Reθ = 180–4600. To extract the largest-scale vortices, we coarse-grain the fluctuating velocity fields by using a Gaussian filter with the filter width comparable to the boundary layer thickness. Most of the largest-scale vortices identified by isosurfaces of the second invariant of the coarse-grained velocity gradient tensor are similar to coherent vortices observed in low-Reynolds-number regions, that is, hairpin vortices or quasi-streamwise vortices inclined to the wall. We also develop a percolation analysis to investigate the threshold-dependence of the isosurfaces and objectively identify the largest-scale hairpin vortices in terms of the coarse-grained vorticity, which leads to the quantitative evidence that they never disappear even in fully developed turbulent regions. Hence, we conclude that hairpin vortices exist in the largest-scale structures irrespective of the Reynolds number.  相似文献
