Four symbolic programs, in Macsyma or Mathematica language, are presented. The first program tests forthe existence of solitons for nonlinear PDEs. It explicitly constructs solitons using Hirota's bilinear method. In the second program, the Painlevé integrability test for ODEs and PDEs is implemented. The third program provides an algorithm to compute conserved densities for nonlinear evolution equations. The fourth software package aids in the computation of Lie symmetries of systems of differential and difference-differential equations. We present a 2-component equation with exactly two nontrivial generalized symmetries, a counterexample to Fokas' conjecture that equations with as many symmetries as components are integrable. Furthermore we prove the existence of infinitely many evolution equations with finitely many symmetries. We introduce the concept of almost integrability to describe the situation where one has a finite number of symmetries. The symbolic calculus of Gel'fand-Dikiî andp-adic analysis are used to prove our results.  相似文献

The exhaustive group classification of a class of variable coefficient generalized KdV equations is presented, which completes and enhances results existing in the literature. Lie symmetries are used for solving an initial and boundary value problem for certain subclasses of the above class. Namely, the found Lie symmetries are applied in order to reduce the initial and boundary value problem for the generalized KdV equations (which are PDEs) to an initial value problem for nonlinear third-order ODEs. The latter problem is solved numerically using the finite difference method. Numerical solutions are computed and the vast parameter space is studied.  相似文献

A method to derive the continuous nonpoint symmetries of ordinary difference equations (OΔE) of order two and higher is presented. A partial classification of second and fourth order difference equations that admit nonpoint symmetries both rational and polynomial forms which are quadratic in each variable is reported. Also, exploiting the obtained symmetries, it is shown how to construct integrals of motion or invariant for each of the considered equations. The question of integrability of the fourth order difference equations possessing the above type of nonpoint symmetries has also been briefly discussed.  相似文献

We consider a classification problem for integrable nonlinear ordinary differential equations with an independent variable belonging to a free associative algebra M. Every equation of this type admits an m×m matrix reduction for an arbitrary m. The existence of symmetries or first integrals belonging to M is used as an integrability criterion. The notion of Laplace invariants is generalized to lattices and discrete equations that are difference analogues of hyperbolic partial differential equations with two independent variables. The sequence of Laplace invariants satisfies the discrete analogue of the two-dimensional Toda lattice. We prove that terminating this sequence by zeros is a necessary condition for the existence of integrals of the equation under consideration. We present formulas for the higher symmetries of equations possessing such integrals. We give examples of difference analogues of the Liouville equation. Zero curvature formulations, pseudo-potentials, modified versions, “Miura transformations”, conservation laws, and nonlocal symmetries of the Korteweg–de Vries, Camassa–Holm and Hunter–Saxton equations are investigated from a unified point of view: these three equations belong to a two-parameter family of equations describing pseudo-spherical surfaces, and therefore their basic integrability properties can be studied by geometrical means.   相似文献

The algebra of higher symmetries and the space of conservation laws for Zakharov's nonlinear equations of the interaction between long and short waves are completely described. We discuss the linearization of a nonautonomous nonlinear partial difference equation belonging to the Boll classification of quad-graph equations consistent around the cube. We show that its Lax pair is fake. We present its generalized symmetries, which turn out to be nonautonomous and dependent on an arbitrary function of the dependent variables defined at two lattice points. These generalized symmetries are differential–difference equations, which admit peculiar Bäcklund transformations in some cases.  相似文献

We review and recast the Equivariant Branching Lemma-which has proved a remarkable tool in linearly equivariant bifurcation theory-and consider its extension to the case of nonlinear (Lie-point) symmetries. This is then applied to gauge theories and gauge theoretic problems, and to nonlinear evolution PDE's; the paper also contains an original setting of Lie-point symmetries for evolution PDEs, modelled on the dynamical systems setting.  相似文献

Orbits of charged particles under the effect of a magnetic field are mathematically described by magnetic geodesics. They appear as solutions to a system of (nonlinear) ordinary differential equations of second order. But we are only interested in periodic solutions. To this end, we study the corresponding system of (nonlinear) parabolic equations for closed magnetic geodesics and, as a main result, eventually prove the existence of long time solutions. As generalization one can consider a system of elliptic nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) whose solutions describe the orbits of closed p-branes under the effect of a “generalized physical force”. For the corresponding evolution equation, which is a system of parabolic nonlinear PDEs associated to the elliptic PDE, we can establish existence of short time solutions.  相似文献

Abstract

We obtain analytical solutions, by way of the homotopy analysis method, to a nonlinear wave equation describing the nonlinear evolution of a vector potential of an electromagnetic pulse propagating in an arbitrary pair plasma with temperature asymmetry. As the method is analytical, we are able to construct peaked structures which propagate through the pair plasma, analogous to peakon solutions. These solutions are obtained through a novel matching of inner and outer homotopy solutions. In order to ensure that our analytical results are valid over the whole real line, we also discuss the convergence of the analytical results to the true solution, through minimization of the residual errors resulting from an approximate analytical solution. These results demonstrate the existence of peaked pulses propagating through a pair plasma. The algebraic decay rate of the pulses are determined analytically, as well. The method discussed here can be applied to approximate solutions to similar nonlinear partial differential equations of nonlinear Schr¨odinger type.  相似文献

We study partial differential equations of second order (in time) that possess a hierarchy of infinitely many higher symmetries. The famous Boussinesq equation is a member of this class after the extension of the differential polynomial ring. We develop the perturbative symmetry approach in symbolic representation. Applying it, we classify the homogeneous integrable equations of fourth and sixth order (in the space derivative) equations, as well as we have found three new tenth-order integrable equations. To prove the integrability we provide the corresponding bi-Hamiltonian structures and recursion operators.  相似文献

We clarify the integrability nature of a recently found discrete equation on the square lattice with a nonstandard symmetry structure. We find its L-A pair and show that it is also nonstandard. For this discrete equation, we construct the hierarchies of both generalized symmetries and conservation laws. This equation yields two integrable systems of hyperbolic type. The hierarchies of generalized symmetries and conservation laws are also nonstandard compared with known equations in this class.  相似文献

We construct renormalization group symmetries in the geometrical optics approximation for the boundary value problem of the system of equations describing the propagation of strong radiation in a nonlinear medium. Using the renormalization group symmetries, new exact and approximate analytic solutions to the equations of nonlinear geometrical optics are obtained. Explicit analytic expressions are presented that characterize the spatial evolution of a laser beam having an arbitrary dependence on intensity at the nonlinear medium boundary.
