The dijet cross section in photoproduction has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 38.6 pb. The events were required to have a virtuality of the incoming photon, , of less than 1 GeV and a photon-proton centre-of-mass energy in the range GeV. Each event contains at least two jets satisfying transverse-energy requirements of GeV and GeV and pseudorapidity requirements of \mbox{}. The measurements are compared to next-to-leading-order QCD predictions. The data show particular sensitivity to the density of partons in the photon, allowing the validity of the current parameterisations to be tested. Results are presented on the photoproduction of isolated prompt photons, inclusively and associated with jets, in the center of mass energy range 142 < W < 266 GeV. The cross sections are measured for the transverse momentum range of the photons GeV and for associated jets with E T jet > 4.5 GeV. They are measured differentially as a function of , the pseudorapidities and and estimators of the momentum fractions and x p of the incident photon and proton carried by the constituents participating in the hard process. In order to further investigate the underlying dynamics, the angular correlation between the prompt photon and the jet in the transverse plane is studied. Predictions by perturbative QCD calculations in next to leading order are about below the inclusive prompt photon data after corrections for hadronisation and multiple interactions, but are in reasonable agreement with the results for prompt photons associated with jets. Comparisons with the predictions of the event generators PYTHIA and HERWIG are also presented.Received: 13 July 2004, Revised: 15 November 2004, Published online: 17 December 2004  相似文献

The contribution of resolved photons to the photoproduction cross section of direct photons is reexamined. Higher order,O(α 2 α s), QCD corrections to this contribution are calculated and turn out to be important at HERA energies. The observation of direct photons in the medium-p range (p ~5 GeV/c) should provide the opportunity to measure the gluon content of the photon.  相似文献

Differential cross sections for the photoproduction of pi-zero mesons from protons have been measured at angles between 10° and 70° c.m. in the energy range 0.85 GeV to 1.30 GeV. The values are compared with the fits to pion photoproduction data from three recent partial-wave analyses.  相似文献

The high energy photoproduction of jets is being observed at theep collider, HERA. It may be that the HERA centre-of-mass energy is sufficiently large that the production of more than one pair of jets perep collision becomes possible, owing to the large number density of the probed gluons. We construct a Monte Carlo model of such multiparton interactions and study their effects on a wide range of physical observables. The conclusion is that multiple interactions could have very significant effects upon the photoproduction final state and that this would for example make extractions of the gluon density in the photon rather difficult. Total rates for the production of many (i.e.≥3) jets could provide direct evidence for the presence of multiple interactions, although parton showering and hadronization significantly affect low transverse energy jets.  相似文献

A measurement of the inclusive production of π0 mesons in hadronic Z decays is presented and compared to Monte Carlo model predictions. The analysis is based on approximately 2 million hadronic events recorded with the ALEPH detector at LEP at a centre-of-mass energy of ?s = 91.2 GeV. Neutral pions are reconstructed using photons measured in the electromagnetic calorimeter and photons from conversion pairs. The inclusive π0 momentum spectrum is measured in the range 0.025 < x p = p/p beam < 1. In this range the number of π0 per hadronic Z is found to be 4.80 ± 0.07(stat) ± 0.31(sys). The differential inclusive π0 cross section is also measured as a function of transverse momentum with respect to the event plane (p T in and p T out ).  相似文献

Four angular distributions of the differential cross section of the reaction γ + p → π0 + p have been measured at the Bonn 2.5 GeV Synchrotron at pion c.m. angles between 3° and 63° in the photon energy range from 0.9 GeV to 1.2 GeV. The π0 mesons were detected by their two decay photons. The data are compared with data of other laboratories and predictions of two recent partial-wave analyses.  相似文献

We calculate in next-to-leading order inclusive cross sections of single-particle production via both direct and resolved photons inep collisions at HERA. Transversemomentum and rapidity distributions are presented and the dependences on renormalization and factorization scales and subtraction schemes are investigated.Supported by the Bundesministerium für Forschung und Technologie under Contract 05 6 HH 93P (5), Bonn, Germany  相似文献

We calculate in next-to-leading order inclusive cross sections of single-particle production via resolved photons inep collisions at HERA. Transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions are presented and the scale dependence is studied. The results are compared with first experimental data from the H1 Collaboration at HERA.  相似文献

Results are presented on inclusive φ photoproduction for incident energies between 25 and 70 GeV. Distributions in Feynman x, pT and decay angles are presented and interpreted in terms of quark fusion models. We demonstrate a similarity with the corresponding pion-induced reaction and obtain information on the hadronic nature of the photon.  相似文献

We have calculated inclusive two-jet cross sections in next-to-leading order QCD for direct photo-production in lowQ 2 ep collisions at HERA. Infrared and collinear singularities in real and virtual contributions are cancelled with the phase space slicing method. Analytical formulas for the different contributions giving the dependence on the slicing parameter are presented. Various one and two-jet distributions have been computed demonstrating the flexibility of the method.  相似文献

We calculate three jet cross sections in photoproduction using exact matrix elements for the direct and resolved contributions. Numerical distributions are presented in a generic, irreducible set of variables that allows to disentangle the dynamics of partonic QCD subprocesses from each other and from pure phase space distributions. The results are compared to preliminary data from the ZEUS collaboration at HERA. It is found that the largest contribution comes from photon-gluon fusion in the mass range 36 GeV 80 GeV. The measured leading jet scattering angle distribution is consistent with the -channel exchange of a massless fermion in scattering, where the third parton is assumed to arise from soft bremsstrahlung. The data are inconsistent with pure phase space and Rutherford scattering distributions. Received: 5 August 1998 / Published online: 19 October 1998  相似文献

Angular distributions of the target symmetry for the reaction γ + p → π0 + p have been measured at the Bonn 2.5 GeV Electron Synchrotron at pion c.m. angles between 13° and 63° and photon energies of 1.0 and 1.1 GeV. The π0 mesons were detected by their two decay photons with total absorption lead-glass ?erenkov counters. Butanol was used as target material in a continuous flow 3He cryostat operating at 0.5 K and 25 kG. The π0 counting rate from free protons in the butanol target was derived from the measurements of the differential cross section on hydrogen. The data are compared with data of other laboratories and the results of two recent partial-wave analyses.  相似文献

For various kinematical domains, the cross section for the diffractive photoproduction of D* mesons at the HERA ep collider is calculated within a model based on perturbation theory. The results obtained by using different models of the Pomeron are compared.  相似文献
