The influence of preionization conditions on the performance of a XeCl gas discharge laser preionized by a short, high intensity x-ray pulse, has been studied. The laser output energy and optical pulse temporal characteristics have been used to determine the roles of initial electron density and of electron attachment to HCl and to impurities. Although the short pulse preionization technique functions well for XeCl when the laser voltage pulse has a short risetime (?20 ns), it is less well suited to XeCl lasers using slowly rising voltage pulses (>50 ns), or to F2 containing gas mixtures (KrF and XeF lasers).  相似文献

Increasing the preionization electron density is found to be an effective method for improving the output performance of discharge-pumped excimer lasers at high gas pressures when the power-supply voltage becomes a limiting factor. In a small volume (2 cm3), x-ray preionized discharge, orders of magnitude improvement in XeCl laser power output (up to 400 kW) and pulse energy (up to 26 mJ) over previously reported results have been found possible using this method. Modifications to the low energy x-ray source and discharge system leading to these improvements are described. Various laser output characteristics are also presented and discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents a complete study of the temporal and spatial characteristics of the preionization of a XeCl rare-gas halide laser. The detailed study was made possible using the technique of laser-induced preionization which utilizes the uv radiation from a KrF laser to preionize a second rare-gas halide laser. In addition to the preionization study, high spatial and temporal resolution framing camera photographs have been used to investigate the growth of discharge instabilities which can lead to the premature termination of the XeCl optical pulse. The roles played by HCl, Xe, the buffer gas as well as the discharge energy loading in the development of discharge instabilities have been determined experimentally.  相似文献

With a high uniformity of x-ray preionization, a long pulse duration and a high specific energy (9 J l-1), an XeCl excimer laser output has been obtained by using a compact low inductance capacitor bank as the laser excitation circuit. The superior features of the low inductance capacitor bank (LICB) compared to the water transmission line (WTL) are attractive for repetitively pulsed XeCl excimer lasers.  相似文献

Improvements in output pulse energy and efficiency of a conventional capacitor-transfer-type discharge excimer laser with automatic preionization have been achieved by extending the discharge volume and resulting moderate pumping of the active medium. The discharge laser produces a pulse energy of more than 1 J for XeCl, KrF, and ArF lasers in square beams of about 2×2 cm2, and the maximum overall efficiency observed is 2.9% for XeCl, 3.2% for KrF and 1.8% for ArF. The laser device has been involved in a picosecond ( 32 ps) XeCl laser amplification system, and was operated as an amplifier at a repetitive frequency of 10 Hz. Excimer laser preionization induced by an external laser was investigated for XeF excimer laser discharge induced by a KrF laser, paying attention to the ionized species in the gas. Enhancement of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) was observed for XeF gas discharge preionized by a KrF laser with and without its irradiation. In contrast, no ASE enhancement was observed for KrF gas discharge with KrF laser preionization. ASE enhancement was larger for the longer wavelength, which was close to the two-photon resonance of the Xe atom, when tunable KrF laser irradiation was used. These results indicate that multi-photon ionization of Xe atoms supplied the initial electrons to the laser-induced preionization.  相似文献

A review is presented on the use of magnetic-spiker circuits to electrically excite rare-gas-halide and CO2 gas-discharge lasers. The design and operation of the diode, switch, overshoot, and charge modes of magnetic-spiker excitation will be described. Special emphasis has been placed upon understanding the dynamical behaviour and saturation properties of the magnetic core material at high frequencies. The effect of voltage risetime, preionization, pulse-forming network design, and prefire on laser performance is also described. Experimental data are presented on a new and very simple magnetic-spiker circuit called the modified overshoot mode. A relatively long optical pulse magnetic-spiker KrF laser is also desribed which uses self-timed corona preionization initiated by the spiker circuit. The use of magnetic-spiker excitation to produce high output laser energies, high repetition rates, and long optical pulses is discussed. Applications of magnetic-spiker lasers in the field of medicine, microelectronics and materials processing will be reviewed.  相似文献

The homogeneity and stability of TEA-Excimer laser discharges strongly depend on the preionization. A homogeneous discharge can only develope if it is ensured that the electron density exceeds a certain level at the moment of the ignition. The kinetic of these electrons during the preionization is analyzed theoretically by the use of the Boltzmann equation for x-ray preionized KrF* laser systems. The time dependent velocity distribution of the electrons is calculated for different buffer gases and gas mixtures. The resulting electron densities and life times are discussed and compared with experimental investigations. It is quantitatively shown at the first time that the kind of the buffer gas has a decisive influence on the velocity distribution, density and life time of the preionization electrons.  相似文献

Epitaxial La1−xSrxMnO3 (LSMO) films were prepared by excimer laser-assisted metal organic deposition (ELAMOD) at a low temperature using ArF, KrF, and XeCl excimer lasers. Cross-section transmission electron microscopy (XTEM) observations confirmed the epitaxial growth and homogeneity of the LSMO film on a SrTiO3 (STO) substrate, which was prepared using ArF, KrF, and XeCl excimer lasers. It was found that uniform epitaxial films could be grown at 500 °C by laser irradiation. When an XeCl laser was used, an epitaxial film was formed on the STO substrate at a fluence range from 80 to 140 mJ/cm2 of the laser fluence for the epitaxial growth of LSMO film on STO substrate was changed. When the LaAlO3 (LAO) substrate was used, an epitaxial film was only obtained by ArF laser irradiation, and no epitaxial film was obtained using the KrF and XeCl lasers. When the back of the amorphous LSMO film on an LAO substrate was irradiated using a KrF laser, no epitaxial film formed. Based on the effect of the wavelength and substrate material on the epitaxial growth, formation of the epitaxial film would be found to be photo thermal reaction and photochemical reaction. The maximum temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of the epitaxial La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 film on an STO substrate grown using an XeCl laser is 4.0%/K at 275 K. XeCl lasers that deliver stabilized pulse energies can be used to prepare LSMO films with good a TCR.  相似文献

A wide aperture, X-ray pre-ionized discharge pumped excimer laser was comparatively studied as oscillator and amplifier with XeCl and KrF as the active gases. With XeCl (KrF), an oscillator output energy of 3J (1 J) and a small-signal gain coefficient of 11%cm–1 (6%cm–1) were measured. The beam size was 6×5 cm2. For smaller beam widths (obtained by limiting the pre-ionized region), both excimers showed considerably higher gain. A simple 10 ps KrF laser system consisting of quenched dye laser oscillator pumped by a XeCl laser, a distributed feedback dye laser (DFDL), a three-stage dye amplifier and a two-stage KrF amplifier are described. The output of the laser system is 140 mJ with 10 ps pulse width by using polarization-multiplexing amplification. A focused output laser intensity of about 4×1015 W/cm2 is obtained. Fourier-transform sensitivity analysis has been applied to a simplified model of a XeCl self-sustained discharge laser. Sensitivity coefficients have been calculated for chemical, electron and photon densities and for the discharge current and voltage. The role of preionization instability on model sensitivity has also been investigated. The sensitivity analysis has been coupled to a statistical analysis of the output data (mean, maximum and minimum values), which can help to better understand the behaviour of the tested model.  相似文献

The results of the experimental study of UV lasers and laser systems pumped by different methods are presented. Two lasers were pumped by electron beams from Marx generators. Three lasers were pumped by transverse discharge with UV preionization. An XeCl laser pumped by electric discharge using a generator with inductive energy storage and semiconducting opening switch is investigated. The highest laser radiation energies of 2000, 90, and 0.7 J have been obtained at 5=308, 249, and 222 nm, respectively. The amplification of the laser beam from the master oscillator under conditions of strong amplified spontaneous emission is considered. In particular, formation of the output from an amplifier in the wings of the XeCl laser band and in the case of a large-aperture XeCl amplifier are investigated. The output beam divergence in these experiments was measured to be ~10-4 rad.  相似文献

A set-up of the CO2 SKATE and its output characteristics are described. The system is based on a self-sustained gas discharge module with x-ray preionization that ensures reliability and stable repetition rate operation at 1 Hz for a long time. Measurement of the initial electron density in the discharge volume produced by an x-ray gun is presented for different gases and their mixtures, which is of independent interest for some applications of x-ray preionization. Data on measurements of the low-intensity signal gain and laser parameters for a free-running generator configuration are presented as well as long-term operation characteristics. This laser system has been used as a CO2 generator with gigawatt peak intensity and high spatial–temporal characteristics. In particular, the laser can be used as a driver for a source of multicharged ions in contrast to the laboratory prototypes previously investigated.  相似文献
