Following Dirac's generalized canonical formalism, we develop a quantization scheme for theN-dimensional system described by the Lagrangian which is supposed to be invariant under the gauge transformation . The gauge invariance necessarily implies that the Lagrangian is singular. The identities imposed by the gauge invariance are enumerated and reduced to simpler forms. There are primary and secondary constraints, both of which are of first class. The reduced identities are solved explicitly for the case where the secondary constraints constitute the generators of the groupSO(M), and thus an explicit expression for the manifestly gauge-invariant Lagrangian is obtained. By fixing the gauge appropriately, the unphysical variables are eliminated and a quantization is achieved using only physical variables. Our formulation is covariant under an arbitrary point transformation of physical variables. The problem of formulating a quantum action principle is also commented on briefly.  相似文献

To represent extension of objects in particle physics, a modified Weyl theory is used by gauging the curvature radius of the local fibers in a soldered bundle over space-time possessing a homogeneous space G/H of the (4, 1)-de Sitter group G as fiber. Objects with extension determined by a fundamental length parameter R0 appear as islands D(i) in space-time characterized by a geometry of the Cartan-Weyl type (i.e., involving torsion and modified Weyl degrees of freedom). Farther away from the domains D(i), space-time is identified with the pseudo-Riemannian space of general relativity. Extension and symmetry breaking are described by a set of additional fields ( , given as a section on an associated bundle over space-time B with structural group = G D(1), where D(1) is the dilation group. Field equations for the quantities defining the underlying bundle geometry and for the fields are established involving matter source currents derived from a generalized spinor wave function. Einstein's equations for the metric are regarded as the part of the -gauge theory related to the Lorentz subgroup H of G exhibiting thereby the broken nature of the -symmetry for regions outside the domains D(i).Talk presented at the International Conference on Field Theory and General Relativity held at Utah State University, Logan, Utah, June 26–July 2, 1988.  相似文献

Symmetry groups and systems of covariance are investigated in the framework of quantum probability theory. It is shown that a measurementX can be represented by a positive operator-valued measure on a sectorS of the amplitude space. Moreover, provides a generalized system of covariance for the generalized unitary representation of a symmetry group.  相似文献

Barut's classical model of the spinning particle having external dynamical variables x and p and internal dynamical variables and z is taken into account. The path integrations over holomorphic spinors and z are discussed. This quantization gives the kernel of the relativistic particles with higher spin as well as the Dirac electron. The Green's function of the spin-n/2 particle is obtained.  相似文献

Starting from aC*-algebra and a locally compact groupT of automorphisms of we construct a covariance algebra with the property that the corresponding *-representations are in one-to-one correspondence with covariant representations of i.e. *-representations of in which the automorphisms are continuously unitarily implemented. We further construct for relativistic field theory an algebra yielding the *-representations of in which the space time translations have their spectrum contained inV. The problem of denumerable occurence of superselection sectors is formulated as a condition on the spectrum of . Finally we consider the covariance algebra built with space translations alone and show its relevance for the discussion of equilibrium states in statistical mechanics, namely we restore in this framework the equivalence of uniqueness of the vacuum, irreducibility and a weak clustering property. On leave of absence from Istituto di Fisica G. Given a simple, simply laced, complex Lie algebra corresponding to the Lie group G, let be thesubalgebra generated by the positive roots. In this Letter we construct aBV algebra whose underlying graded commutative algebra is given by the cohomology, with respect to , of the algebra of regular functions on G with values in . We conjecture that describes the algebra of allphysical (i.e., BRST invariant) operators of the noncritical string. The conjecture is verified in the two explicitly known cases, 2 (the Virasoro string) and 3 (the string).  相似文献

We study those nonlinear infinitesimal realizations ofSL(2,C) that leave invariant the quadratic function of the four-velocity components of a particle. These transformations are defined as maps of a larger manifold, which includes the four-velocity space, into itself in such a way that transformations of the depend upon other functions in the manifold. The requirement that remain invariant limits the types of other functions that can contribute in the transformation of the . However, among those allowed are the spinors and a three-dimensional space that transforms nonlinearly and recently associated with electric charge. We point out and explore two interesting aspects of these nonlinear realizations. First, they generally necessitate interactions since is not a covariant equation. Second, with superposition of solutions, exact measurement of the four-velocity or space-time position, is impossible. This and related features of nondeterministic measurement inherent to these realizations are discussed.  相似文献

It is shown that classical and quantum equations of motion of a relativistic spinless particle (the Lorentz and Klein-Gordon equations) allow for a geometrization on the same manifold 4. A classical particle on 4 is described as a free particle ( p=0), while the quantum particle, as a free wave ( s=0).Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 9, pp. 70–74, September, 1990.  相似文献

The 2-by-2 Pauli matrix algebra is used to write the 1-by-4 Dirac field in anequivalent 2-by-2 matrix . The current 4-vectors and *µ are then compared and the latter is shown to not be easily interpretable as a probability density, and also tocontain .  相似文献

The surface electronic band structure of the Pb (001) was calculated using the self-consistent, first-principles linear-augmented-plane-wave method and the norm-conserving pseudopotentiai method. In the nonrelativistic case, forbidden gaps appear above and below the Fermi levelin the bulk projected band structure of lead. An occupied surface state at the point and two surface states in a wide forbidden gap above EF are found. A characteristic feature of the electronic structure of the Pb (001) surface is the absence of a surface state within the forbidden S-P gap in the vicinity of the point. The inclusion of scalar-relativistic effects leads to the merger of several S-P gaps into one wide gap extending throughout the entire Brillouin zone. At the same time, the occupied state at point extends to point and its energy decreases by 2 eV. New, relatively weak surface states in the direction and unoccupied states in the vicinity of the point appear. An unoccupied surface state is found at the bottom of the forbidden gap at point . Including the contribution of the spinorbit pseudopotentiai leads to the appearance of two-spin orbit gas; however, the surface level structure is practically unchanged (except for the disappearance of the unoccupied surface state of Pz-symmetry at point ).Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 10, pp. 47–53, October, 1991.  相似文献

Let be a finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra and Uq( ) the associated quantum group (q is a nonzero complex number which we assume is transcendental). IfV is a finitedimensional irreducible representation of Uq( ), an affinization ofV is an irreducible representationVV of the quantum affine algebra Uq( ) which containsV with multiplicity one and is such that all other irreducible Uq( )-components ofV have highest weight strictly smaller than the highest weight ofV. There is a natural partial order on the set of Uq( ) classes of affinizations, and we look for the minimal one(s). In earlier papers, we showed that (i) if is of typeA, B, C, F orG, the minimal affinization is unique up to Uq( )-isomorphism; (ii) if is of typeD orE and is not orthogonal to the triple node of the Dynkin diagram of , there are either one or three minimal affinizations (depending on ). In this paper, we show, in contrast to the regular case, that if Uq( ) is of typeD 4 and is orthogonal to the triple node, the number of minimal affinizations has no upper bound independent of .As a by-product of our methods, we disprove a conjecture according to which, if is of typeA n,every affinization is isomorphic to a tensor product of representations of Uq( ) which are irreducible under Uq( ) (in an earlier paper, we proved this conjecture whenn=1).Both authors were partially supported by the NSF, DMS-9207701.  相似文献

A definition of a causal boundary is given by assigning a future and a past endpoint to any non-extensible timelike or null line. A topology and a partial ordering can be introduced on . An axiomatic theory is formulated which describes a class of yes-no experiments, involving a fixed basic source, a fixed basic detector, and various filters. It is assumed that all filters considered can be constructed from a setP of primitive filters by composition and stochastic selection. Two physically plausible axioms are formulated which allow us to define the concept of asystem in the present context (cf. Definition2.4). To each system we can attach anorder unit module ( ) (cf. Definition5.1) whereby ( ) is acomplete, separable order unit space. Two additional axioms are proposed which have the effect that the space ( ) becomes isomorphic to the order unit space underlying a JB-algebra, at least in the case where isfinite dimensional (cf. Corollary7.9).  相似文献

Quantum uncertainties prevent simultaneous measurement of the expansion factor S(t) and its time derivative . Consequently the Hubble size has an inherent uncertainty in the quantum state that describes the semiclassical evolution of the universe. We show that the quantum uncertainty in the Hubble size of the universe is amplified to unacceptably large values in any inflationary process. This essay received an honorable mention from the Gravity Research Foundation, 1986-Ed.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the classical Euclidean wormhole solution of the Born—Infeld scalar field. The corresponding classical Euclidean wormhole solution can be obtained analytically for both very small and large . At the extreme limit of small the wormhole solution has the same format as one obtained by Giddings and Strominger (Nuclear Physics B 306, 890, 1988). At the extreme limit of large the wormhole solution is a new one. The wormhole wave functions can also be obtained for both very small and large . These wormhole wave functions are regarded as solutions of quantum-mechanical Wheeler—Dewitt equation with certain boundary conditions.  相似文献

The relation between the set of transformations of the quantum plane and the quantum universal enveloping algebra U q (u(2)) is investigated by constructing representations of the factor algebra U q (u(2))* . The noncommuting coordinates of , on which U q (2) * U q (2) acts, are realized as q-spinors with respect to each U q (u(2)) algebra. The representation matrices of U q (2) are constructed as polynomials in these spinor components. This construction allows a derivation of the commutation relations of the noncommuting coordinates of directly from properties of U q (u(2)). The generalization of these results to U q (u(n)) and is also discussed.  相似文献

The time correlation function (t)=Re<[c(t), c (0)]>, which is related to the dipole spectrum and is the main focus of quantum molecular time scale generalized Langevin equation theory, is calculated for the Hamiltonian system in which a single oscillator is coupled by a nonlinear Davydov term to a chain of oscillators comprising a phonon heat bath. An exact expression for (t) is obtained. At long times we find that the time correlation function decays as a small power law atT=0K, but switches to exponential decay at higher temperature. This is a new result and bears on the long-standing issue of the existence of long-time tails.  相似文献
