In this paper we consider a string moving in its plane and subject to solid friction (Coulomb's law). It is known that when the time increases indefinitely the string reaches an equilibrium position and by analogy with the case of a mass point we ask if the equilibrium is reached after a finite time. We prove that this is the case when the string is initially at rest and 1. when the initial shape possesses a second derivative bounded by certain limits, or 2. when the initial shape is formed by two straight line segments. In the last section we obtain some partial results when the string is initially at rest in the shape of a polygonal line. The case of an arbitrary initial position is still an open problem.  相似文献

An equilibrium problem for a solid with a crack is considered. We assume that both the Coulomb friction law and a nonpenetration condition hold at the crack faces. The problem is formulated as a quasi-variational inequality. Existence of a solution is proved, and a complete system of boundary conditions fulfilled at the crack surface is obtained in suitable spaces.  相似文献

The effect of sliding velocity and temperature on the lubricating action of greases has been investigated under constant and variable temperature conditions. The most important factor is the friction temperature. Two different temperature regions, separated by a change in the type of friction, have been detected. Sliding friction between two bodies can generate elastic vibration. This study uses a finite-element model comprising an elastic body sliding against a flat rigid surface with constant coefficient of friction. For the elastic body a structured topography is taken into account. The model shows traveling surface waves, which depend on the asperities of the sliding surface. The results of an experimental investigation of circular cylindrical glass-reinforced plastic shells under long-term axial compression are reported. The experimental method and the experimental apparatus are described. The initial irregularity functions and their evolution during loading and in time at various values of the compressive loads are investigated. The spread of the critical times at a given load level is studied together with the dependence of the critical time on the compressive load. The behavior of the shell after unloading and under alternating loading and unloading is considered. The correlation between the buckled shapes resulting from long-term compression and the initial irregularity functions is examined.Moscow Power Engineering Institute. The stability of a compressed growing rod of viscoelastic material that possesses the property of ageing /1/ is investigated. In conformity with the Chatayev definition of the stability of dynamic systems and the Lyapunov method described in /2/, stability conditions are obtained for a rod growing during a finite time interval, and in finite and semi-infinite time intervals. Some results of a numerical analysis of the behaviour of such a rod are presented in /3/.  相似文献

This article presents an analytical investigation on stability and local bifurcation behavior due to exponentially decaying friction characteristics in the sliding domain of a simple friction oscillator, which is commonly referred to as “mass-on-a-belt”-oscillator. Friction is described by a friction coefficient which in the sense of Stribeck depends on the relative velocity between the two tribological partners.For such a characteristic the stability and bifurcation behavior are discussed. It is shown, that the system can undergo a subcritical Hopf-bifurcation from an unstable steady-state fixed-point to an unstable limit cycle, which separates the basins of the stable steady-state fixed-point and the self-sustained stick-slip limit cycle.Therefore, only a local examination of the eigenvalues at the steady-state, as is the classical approach when investigating conditions for the onset of friction-induced vibrations, may not give the whole picture, since the stable region around the steady-state fixed-point may be rather small.Furthermore, the results of above considerations are applied to a brake-noise problem. It is found that, in contrast to squeal, a decaying friction characteristic may be a satisfying explanation for the onset low-frequency groan. The analytical results are compared with experimental measurements.  相似文献

This paper contains an analysis of the stress distribution in a plate of finite thickness of an elastic material containing a penny-shaped crack when it is deformed by the application of a uniform shearing stress on the surface of the plate. The crack lies on the central plane of the plate with its surface parallel to those of the plate and is stress-free. By making a suitable representation of the stress function for the problem, the problem is reduced to the solution of a pair of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. This pair of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind is solved numerically, and the increase in the stress intensity magnification factor due to the effect of the finite thickness of the plate is presented for various values of the thickness.  相似文献

In this paper, the effect electric field on the flow induced by the combined buoyancy and thermocapillary forces is carried out. Calculations are performed for a strong unipolar injection (C = 10) and different values of Marangoni number (−10000 ≤ Ma ≤ 10000), thermal Rayleigh number (5000 ≤ Ra ≤ 50,000) and electric Rayleigh number (0 ≤ T ≤ 800). The Prandtl number (Pr) and the mobility parameter (M) are fixed at 116.6 and 49, respectively. These values correspond to the Silicone oil used as working liquid several practical applications. The full set of coupled equations: Navier–Stokes, Electro-hydrodynamic (EHD) and heat transfer equations are directly solved using stream function-vorticity formalism. Obtained results show that the electric forces can control the thermocapillary instabilities. According to the intensity and the direction of the applied electric forces, it is demonstrated that these instabilities can be accentuated, attenuated, or even completely eliminated.  相似文献

The existence and stability conditions for the steady motions and equilibrium positions of non-linear quasi-conservative systems with fast external perturbations having quasi-periodic and random components are investigated. A change of variables is proposed which reduces Lagrange's equations of the system to standard form. It is shown the averaged system of the first approximation has a canonical form and the effect of fast perturbations (not necessarily potential) is equivalent to a change in the system's potential. This leads to stabilization of unstable equilibrium positions and to the appearance of additional stationary points different from the equilibrium positions of the unperturbed system. The approach used is illustrated by examples; the stability of a pendulum on an elastic suspension when there is suspension point, and the steady motion of a sphere subjected to a high-frequency load. The critical loading of a double pendulum loaded by a pulsating tracking force is estimated. A form of wide-band random perturbations capable of stabilizing the system is considered.  相似文献

This paper studies the dynamics of a system composed of a collection of particles that exhibit collisions between them. Several entropy measures and different impact conditions of the particles are tested. The results reveal a Power Law evolution both of the system energy and the entropy measures, typical in systems having fractional dynamics.  相似文献

Summary The results obtained in this communication characterize the initial postbifurcation behavior of thin elastic rings subjected to a constant-directional and normal uniform external pressure. They complement the calculated postcritical values presented by Budiansky and Sills in previous publications.
Zusammenfassung Diese Mitteilung befaßt sich mit dem Verhalten der Kreisringe nach den Verzweigungen des Gleichgewichts. Zwei Fälle des Drucklastverhaltens werden untersucht, nämlich: 1) die Elementarlasten behalten ihre Richtung auch während und nach dem Ausknicken des Ringes und 2) die Elementarlasten stehen fortwährend senkrecht auf den zugeordneten Ringelementen (Gasdruck). Die Ergebnisse ergänzen die von Budiansky und Sills angegebenen nachkritischen Werte.

A spatial contact problem is formulated and investgated for rough elastic bodies which touch each other under mixed friction conditions: the elastic bodies are separated in one part of the contact domain by a layer of viscous incompressible liquid (lubricant), while in the other they are in direct contact (such conditions are characteristic for roller bearings, gear transmissions, etc.). The problem is reduced to a system of nonlinear integro-differential and integral equations and inequalities in the contact domain, part of the external boundary, and a number of inner boundaries that are unknown in advance, but separate the lubricated and unlubricated zones. Special cases are problems of dry and completely lubricated contact. A formulation is given for the problem for the case when the materials of the bodies are identical. The problem of mixed friction is considered in strongly drawn out contact. Sections of the contact domain in which the interaction between the bodies is direct or by means of the lubrication layer are investigated using asymptotic methods.  相似文献

Summary This note presents the critical values of the downward point load applied at the crown of clamped circular arches with inextensible centroidal line. The calculations are based on the Euler theory of the initially curved elastica undergoing large deflections. In contrast to the two-highed circular arches the buckling is not always of the sidesway type; for most practical dimensions of the clamped arch the instability is characterized by snap-through.
Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe der nichtlinearen Eulerschen Theorie wird die Stabilität des beidseitig eingespannten und durch eine mittige Einzelkraft belasteten Kreisbogenträgers untersucht. Man nimmt dabei an, der Bogen sei genügend schlandk und die Dehnung der Stabachse vernachlässigbar klein. Im Gegensatz zum Zweigelenkbogen zeigt sich die Instabilität des steilen, eingespannten Bogenträgers eher in einem Durchschlagen als im seitlichen Ausweichen.

In this article bio-economics of a renewable resource that is subjected to strong Allee effect (multiplicative Allee effect) is investigated from sole owner perspective. The considered optimal harvesting problem has been solved using Pontryagin maximum principle. The control problem admits multiple singular equilibrium solutions in contrast to the case where the growth of the resource is of compensatory nature. Thus the choice of optimal singular solution and the nature of associated approach paths make the problem pertinent and interesting.  相似文献
