Slurry sampling (SS) with hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HG-AAS) was used to analyze 3 particulate matter samples collected in the Bananeira Village, Brazil, in 2005. The relative standard deviation (RSD), used to assess the precision, was lower than 4.8%. The accuracy of this method was confirmed by the analysis of certified atmospheric particulate matter urban dust reference material SRM 1649a. This method (SS/HG-AAS) was used to determine total arsenic and arsenic (III) in three particulate matter samples. In these samples, the total arsenic concentrations varied from 3.8 to 20.0 ng m− 3, while As (III) concentrations varied from 2.7 to 10.5 ng m− 3. All samples were also analyzed using acid digestion in digest block with cold finger and detection for HG-AAS. A paired t-test demonstrated no significant difference (95% CL) between the results obtained using these two sample preparation procedures. The limit of quantification, calculated considering the mass of particulate matter collected on every filter, was 0.6 ng m− 3 for As total and 1.0 ng m− 3 for As (III). 相似文献

A simple procedure was developed for the direct determination of As(III) and As(V) in water samples by flow injection hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (FI–HG–AAS), without pre-reduction of As(V). The flow injection system was operated in the merging zones configuration, where sample and NaBH4 are simultaneously injected into two carrier streams, HCl and H2O, respectively. Sample and reagent injected volumes were of 250 μl and flow rate of 3.6 ml min−1 for hydrochloric acid and de-ionised water. The NaBH4 concentration was maintained at 0.1% (w/v), it would be possible to perform arsine selective generation from As(III) and on-line arsine generation with 3.0% (w/v) NaBH4 to obtain total arsenic concentration. As(V) was calculated as the difference between total As and As(III). Both procedures were tolerant to potential interference. So, interference such as Fe(III), Cu(II), Ni(II), Sb(III), Sn(II) and Se(IV) could, at an As(III) level of 0.1 mg l−1, be tolerated at a weight excess of 5000, 5000, 500, 100, 10 and 5 times, respectively. With the proposed procedure, detection limits of 0.3 ng ml−1 for As(III) and 0.5 ng ml−1 for As(V) were achieved. The relative standard deviations were of 2.3% for 0.1 mg l−1 As(III) and 2.0% for 0.1 mg l−1 As(V). A sampling rate of about 120 determinations per hour was achieved, requiring 30 ml of NaBH4 and waste generation in order of 450 ml. The method was shown to be satisfactory for determination of traces arsenic in water samples. The assay of a certified drinking water sample was 81.7±1.7 μg l−1 (certified value 80.0±0.5 μg l−1). 相似文献

A simple and robust on-line sequential insertion system coupled with hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HG-AAS) was developed, for selective As(III) and total inorganic arsenic determination without pre-reduction step. The proposed manifold, which is employing an integrated reaction chamber/gas-liquid separator (RC-GLS), is characterized by the ability of the successful managing of variable sample volumes (up to 25 ml), in order to achieve high sensitivity. Arsine is able to be selectively generated either from inorganic As(III) or from total arsenic, using different concentrations of HCl and NaBH4 solutions. For 8 ml sample volume consumption, the sampling frequency is 40 h−1. The detection limit is cL = 0.1 and 0.06 μg l−1 for As(III) and total arsenic, respectively. The precision (relative standard deviation) at 2.0 μg l−1 (n = 10) level is sr = 2.9 and 3.1% for As(III) and total arsenic, respectively. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by analyzing the certified reference material NIST CRM 1643d and spiked water samples with various concentration ratios of As(III) to As(V). The method was applied for arsenic speciation in natural waters samples. 相似文献

A rapid and sensitive method for the on-line separation and pre-concentration of inorganic arsenic in water samples is described. The analyte in the pentavalent oxidation state is reduced to its trivalent form with l-cysteine and the total inorganic arsenic is sorbed onto activated alumina in the acid form in a mini-column coupled to a FI-HG AAS system. Afterwards, it is eluted with 3 mol l−1 HCl. An enrichment factor of 7 was obtained, allowing an analytical flow rate of about 28 determinations per hour. The limits of detection (3σ) and of quantification (10σ) were calculated as LOD = 0.15 μg l−1 of As and LOQ = 0.5 μg l−1 of As, respectively. Relative standard deviations (n = 10) less than 8% were obtained for different arsenic concentrations and the accuracy was verified by analysing certified reference materials. Different kinds of samples, such as mineral water, drinking water, river water and natural spring water were analyzed and good agreement was obtained with the values from spiked experiments. 相似文献

A new method was developed for simultaneous determination of trace arsenic and antimony in Chinese herbal medicines by hydride generation-double channel atomic fluorescence spectrometry with a Soxhlet extraction system and an n-octanol-water extraction system, respectively. The effects of analytical conditions on the fluorescence intensity were investigated and optimized. A water-dissolving and methanol-water-dissolving capability were compared. The contents of different species in five Chinese herbal medicines and their decoctions were analyzed. The concentration ratios of n-octanol-soluble As or Sb to water-soluble As or Sb were related to the kinds of medicine and the acidity of the decoction. Soxhlet extraction was found to be an effective method for plants pretreatment for determination of arsenic and antimony species in Chinese herbs; the interferences of coexisting ions were evaluated. The proposed method has the advantages of simple operation, high sensitivity and high speed, with 3σ detection limits of 0.094 μg g−1 for As(III), 0.056 μg g−1 for total As, 0.063 μg g−1 for Sb(III) and 0.019 μg g−1 for total Sb in a 1.0 g of the sample. 相似文献

This paper reports the development of a methodology for the determination of arsenic in petroleum refinery aqueous streams containing large amounts of unknown volatile organic compounds, employing electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry with polarized Zeeman-effect background correction. In order to make the procedure applicable, the influence of chemical modification and the drying step was examined. Also, pyrolysis and atomization temperatures and the amount of nitric acid added to the sample were optimized using a multivariate approach based on Doehlert matrix. Obtained results indicate that, in this kind of sample, arsenic must be determined by standard addition procedure with a careful control of the drying step temperature and ramp pattern. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the procedure, a test was performed in six spiked samples of petroleum refinery aqueous streams and the relative errors verified in the analysis of such samples (added As between 12.5 and 190 μg l−1) ranged from −7.2 to +16.7%. The detection limit and the relative standard deviation were also calculated and the values are 68 pg and 7.5% (at 12.5 μg l−1 level), respectively. 相似文献

In this work, the determination of total As in seawater by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry was studied. The influence of the chemical, flow and instrumental parameters were investigated and optimized. The pre-reduction of As(V) to As(III) was performed using KI plus ascorbic acid in 3.5 mol L− 1 HCl medium. No multiplicative interference was present and external aqueous calibration could be used. The limit of detection was 36 ng L− 1, while the repeatability was 2% (n = 10), at a 500 ng L− 1 concentration level. The sample throughput was 15 h− 1 if triplicate measurements were made. The accuracy was assessed by the analysis of a seawater certified reference material and excellent agreement between the obtained and certified values was verified. The procedure was used for the analysis of seawater offshore samples collected at the Brazilian coast and results ranging from 860 to 1200 ng L− 1 were found. 相似文献

The interferences between arsenic and antimony on each other during the hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HGAAS) determination of arsenic and antimony using a quartz tube atomizer (QTA) were examined. In order to eliminate or reduce such interferences by selective heat decomposition of arsine and stibine, a Pyrex adsorption U-tube trap containing glass wool was placed between the drying tube and the quartz tube atomizer. Although at 250 °C stibine decomposes and is held almost completely by the trap, arsine is also decomposed to an extent of 24% and, therefore, thermal decomposition is not useful to eliminate antimony interference on arsenic determination. The effect of coating the glass wool in the U-tube with antimony on the arsenic suppression of the antimony signal was studied. The results showed that the antimony coating in the U-tube could not hold arsenic effectively and its interference on the antimony signal could not be eliminated by this means. In the second part of the study, oxygen was supplied to the quartz tube atomizer during atomization in order to study the effect of supplying oxygen on the antimony signal and on the interference of arsenic in the antimony determination. Sensitivity was increased in the presence of oxygen and interferences of arsenic on antimony determination was decreased by about 10% when oxygen was supplied. It was also observed that the extent of interferences depended mainly on the interferent concentration rather than the analyte concentration. 相似文献

Hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry was for the first time utilized to determine trace toxic element arsenic in the skeleton fossils of four dinosaurs unearthed in Sichuan Province of China. The instrumental limit of detection (LOD) for arsenic was 0.03 μg/L under optimal experimental conditions, which compared favorably to that by ICP-AES and ETAAS. The samples were digested with aqua regia in boiling water bath. The recoveries of standard addition were found to be from 97 to 109%, and the analytical results were found in good agreement with those by ICP-AES. It is a simple, reliable, sensitive yet relatively inexpensive analytical method, compared to ICP-AES, ICP-MS or ETAAS. Interesting analytical results were found that the arsenic concentrations were all abnormally high in the skeleton fossils. The established analytical method and the analytical results may be helpful in revealing the mystery of the mass extinction of the dinosaur fauna. The analytical results, together with other data available to date, supported the argument that the arsenic toxicosis could be a contributing factor for the mass extinction of the dinosaur fauna in Sichuan Province of China. 相似文献

Determination of ultra trace arsenic species in water samples by hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry after cloud point extraction 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Cloud point extraction (CPE) methodology has successfully been employed for the preconcentration of ultra-trace arsenic species in aqueous samples prior to hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HGAAS). As(III) has formed an ion-pairing complex with Pyronine B in presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) at pH 10.0 and extracted into the non-ionic surfactant, polyethylene glycol tert-octylphenyl ether (Triton X-114). After phase separation, the surfactant-rich phase was diluted with 2 mL of 1 M HCl and 0.5 mL of 3.0% (w/v) Antifoam A. Under the optimized conditions, a preconcentration factor of 60 and a detection limit of 0.008 μg L−1 with a correlation coefficient of 0.9918 was obtained with a calibration curve in the range of 0.03–4.00 μg L−1. The proposed preconcentration procedure was successfully applied to the determination of As(III) ions in certified standard water samples (TMDA-53.3 and NIST 1643e, a low level fortified standard for trace elements) and some real samples including natural drinking water and tap water samples. 相似文献

In this study arsenic compounds were determined in mussels (Mytulis galloprovincialis), anchovies (Engraulis encrasicholus), sea-breams (Sparus aurata), sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and sardines (Sardina pilchardus) collected from Aegean Sea using liquid chromatography-photo-oxidation-hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry [LC-(PO)-HG-AFS] system. Twelve arsenicals were separated and determined on the basis of their difference in two properties: (i) the pKa values and (ii) hydride generation capacity. The separation was carried out both with an anion- and a cation-exchange column, with and without photo-oxidation. In all the samples arsenobetaine, AB was detected as the major compound (concentrations ranging between 2.7 and 23.1 μg g−1 dry weight), with trace amounts of arsenite, As(III), dimethylarsinic acid, DMA and arsenocholine, AC, also present. Arsenosugars were detected only in the mussel samples (in concentrations of 0.9-3.6 μg g−1 dry weight), along with the presence of an unknown compound, which, based on its retention time on the anion-exchange column Hamilton PRP-X100 and a recent communication [E. Schmeisser, R. Raml, K.A. Francesconi, D. Kuehnelt, A. Lindberg, Cs. Soeroes, W. Goessler, Chem. Commun. 16 (2004) 1824], is supposed to be a thio-arsenic analogue. 相似文献

A procedure for the determination of arsenic by batch hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HG AAS) in commercial samples of injectable drugs, containing high concentrations of Sb(V), is described. The procedure is based on the complexing effect for Sb of citric, oxalic and acetic acids as reaction media. Aqua regia was used for sample digestion prior to As determination by HG AAS. The following experimental conditions for the determination of total As, as As(V), were evaluated: the acid medium and its concentration, sodium tetrahydroborate concentration, purge time, and influence of the different oxidation states of As. The effect of the delay time after mixing of sample and acid solution was also studied. Optimized conditions were: 10% (m/v) citric acid, 1.5% (m/v) sodium tetrahydroborate solution and 30 s for purge time. A delay time of 1 h was required after the digested sample had been mixed with citric acid, before As determination could be carried out. No interference on As(III) and As(V) signals was observed in the presence of up to 1 mg Sb(V). The tolerance limits for Ni(II), Cu(II) and Pb(II) were 1 mg, 100 μg and 100 μg, respectively. Recovery tests for As(III) and As(V) resulted in values between 97 and 101%. Characteristic mass and detection limit (3σ), using the recommended conditions, were 0.52 and 0.8 ng, respectively, for total As. 相似文献

A simple and fast analytical procedure has been developed for the determination of As, Sb, Se, Te and Bi in milk samples by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HG-AFS). Samples were treated with aqua regia for 10 min in an ultrasound water bath and pre-reduced with KBr for total Se and Te determination or with KI and ascorbic acid for total As and Sb, the determination of Bi being possible in all with or without pre-reduction. Slurries of samples, in the presence of antifoam A, were treated with NaBH4 in HCl medium to obtain the corresponding hydrides, and AFS measurements were processed in front of external calibrations prepared and measured in the same way as samples. Results obtained by the developed procedure compare well with those found after microwave-assisted complete digestion of samples. The proposed method is simple and fast, and only 1 ml of milk is needed. The values obtained for detection limit are 2.5, 1.6, 3, 6 and 7 ng l−1 for As, Sb, Se, Te and Bi respectively in the diluted samples, with average relative standard deviation values of 3.8, 3.1, 1.9, 6.4 and 1.2% for three independent analysis of a series of commercially available samples of different origin. Data found in Spanish market samples varied from 3.2±0.3 to 11.3±0.2 ng g−1 As, from 3.1±0.2 to 11.6±0.4 ng g−1 Sb, from 10.7±0.5 to 25.5±0.4 ng g−1 Se, from 0.9±0.2 to 9.4±0.6 ng g−1 Te and from 11.5±0.1 to 27.7±0.4 ng g−1 Bi. 相似文献

Total arsenic concentrations in groundwater samples determined by hydride generation quartz furnace atomic absorption spectrometry
may underestimated due to a loss of quartz cell surface “conditioning.” This loss of quartz cell surface “conditioning” is
due to the analysis of many samples that do not contain measurable quantities of the analyte. This process is further accelerated
by the use of high concentrations of sodium tetrahydroborate and hydrochloric acid. Analysis of the highest calibration standard
in between the samples and the use of low concentrations of sodium tetrahydroborate and hydrochloric acid could minimize the
error arising from this source. 相似文献

A simple and reliable method for the determination of arsenic in sediment and in coal without sample digestion, based on hydride generation from slurry samples is proposed. After grinding the samples to a particle size of 50 μm, the sample powder was mixed with aqua regia and hydrofluoric acid in an ultrasonic bath for 30 min. After diluting the mixture with hydrochloric acid, the slurry was allowed to stand for 48 h, and an aliquot was used for hydride generation with sodium borohydride. More than 80% of the arsenic was leached to the aqueous phase under these conditions, except for one sediment sample with very high silica content. The generated arsine was collected in a graphite tube, treated with 0.5 mg of iridium as a permanent modifier, and the arsenic determination was carried out by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The same tube could be used for at least 160 cycles without any re-treatment. The greatest advantage of the method was that only a minimum of reagents and sample handling were required, reducing the risks of contamination and/or analyte loss. However, the addition calibration technique had to be used in order to obtain results within the 95% confidence level for 11 certified reference materials, 5 sediments, 5 coals and one coal fly ash. One certified sediment slurry was spiked with the analyte and the resulting addition calibration curve was used for the analysis of the certified sediments. Similarly, one certified coal was used to obtain the addition calibration curve for the coal and coal fly ash samples. The recoveries of the certified values, except for one sediment, were between 91 and 115%. The limits of detection in the samples were 0.54 and 0.7 μg g−1 for the coal and sediment samples, respectively, obtained for 1 ml of slurry containing 1 mg of sample. 相似文献

The performance of a microwave plasma torch (MPT) discharge atomic emission spectrometry (AES) system directly coupled with hydride generation (HG) for the determination of As and Sb has been studied. The argon MPT system can sustain a stable plasma over a wide range of carrier and support gas flow rates with optimum performance at 250 and 1450 ml min−1, respectively. The presence of trace amount of water in the MPT discharge is found to affect the detection limits and the signal to noise ratio. A PTFE membrane separator is applied for hydride introduction and water rejection. In addition, the membrane cell separator also improves the signal to noise ratio by serving as a pressure buffer to minimize noise due to pressure fluctuation. Detection limits (3σ) of 8.1 and 3.2 ng ml−1 are obtained with the analytical lines As I 228.812 nm and Sb I 259.809 nm, respectively at an MPT power of 135 W. The detection limits are improved when a concentrated sulfuric acid cell is placed after the membrane cell to further remove water. This double cell system yields detection limits of 5.3 and 2.1 ng ml−1 for As and Sb, respectively under the same operating conditions. Linear dynamic ranges of three orders of magnitude could be obtained. 相似文献
