A series of fully aromatic, thermotropic polyesters, derived from 3-phenyl-4,4′-biphenol (MPBP), nonlinear 4,4′-benzophenone dicarboxylic acid (4,4′-BDA), and various other comonomers was prepared by the melt polycondensation method and characterized for their thermotropic liquid crystalline behavior by a variety of experimental techniques. The homopolymer of MPBP with 4,4′-BDA had a fusion temperature (Tf) at 240°C, exhibited a nematic liquid crystalline phase, and had a narrow liquid crystalline range of 60°C. All of the copolyesters of MPBP with 4,4′-BDA and either 30 mol % 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA), 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (HNA) or 50 mol % terephthalic acid (TA), 2,6-naphthale-nedicarboxylic acid (2,6-NDA) and low Tf values in the range of 210–230°C, exhibited a nematic phase, and had accessible isotropization transitions (Ti) in the range of 320–420°C, respectively. As expected, each of them had a broader range of liquid crystalline phase than the homopolymer. They had a “frozen” nematic, glassy order as determined with the wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) studies. The morphology of each of the “as-made” polyesters had a fibrous structure as determined with the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which arises because of the liquid crystalline domains. Moreover, they had higher glass transition temperatures (Tg) in the range of 167–190°C than those of other liquid crystalline polyesters, and excellent thermal stabilities (Td) in the range of 500–533°C, respectively. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A series of wholly aromatic, thermotropic polyesters, derived from 3,3′-bis(phenyl)-4,4′-biphenol (DPBP), nonlinear 4,4′-benzophenone dicarboxylic acid (4,4′-BDA), and various linear comonomers, were prepared by the melt polycondensation reaction and characterized for their thermotropic properties by a variety of experimental techniques. The homopolymer of DPBP with 4,4′-BDA had a fusion temperature (Tf) at 265°C, exhibited a nematic phase, and had a liquid crystalline range of 105°C. All of the copolyesters of DPBP with 4,4′-BDA and either 30 mol % 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA), 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (HNA), or 50 mol % terephthalic acid (TA), 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (2,6-NDA) had low Tf values in the range of 220–285°C, exhibited a nematic phase, and had accessible isotropization transitions (Ti) in the range of 270–420°C, respectively. Their accessible Ti values would enable one to observe a biphase structure. Each of the copolymers with HBA or HNA had a much broader range of liquid crystalline phase. In contrast, each of the copolymers with TA or 2,6-NDA had a relatively narrow range of liquid crystalline phase. Each of these polyesters had a glassy, nematic morphology that was confirmed with the DSC, PLM, WAXD, and SEM studies. As expected, they had higher glass transition temperatures (Tg) in the range of 161–217°C than those of other liquid crystalline polyesters, and excellent thermal stabilities (Td) in the range of 494–517°C, respectively. Despite their noncrystallinity, they were not soluble in common organic solvents with the exception that the homopolymer and its copolymer with TA had limited solubility in CHCl3. However, they were soluble in the usual mixture of p-chlorophenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (60/40 by weight) with the exception of the copolymer with 2,6-NDA. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Several new side‐chain liquid crystalline (LC) polysiloxanes and elastomers ( IP ‐ VIP ) bearing fluorinated mesogenic units and crosslinking mesogens were synthesized by a one‐step hydrosilylation reaction with poly(methylhydrogeno)siloxane, a fluorine‐containing LC monomer 4′‐undec‐10‐enoyloxy‐biphenyl‐4‐yl 4‐fluoro‐benzoate and a crosslinking LC monomer 4′‐(4‐allyloxy‐benzoxy)‐biphenyl‐4‐yl 4‐allyloxy‐benzoate. The chemical structures and LC properties of the monomers and polymers were characterized by use of various experimental techniques such as FTIR, 1H‐NMR, EA, TGA, DSC, POM and XRD. The effect of crosslinking mesogens on mesomorphic properties of the fluorinated LC polymers was studied as well. The obtained polymers and elastomers were soluble in many solvents such as toluene, tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, and so forth. The temperatures at which 5% weight loss occurred (Td) were greater than 250°C for all the polymers, and the weight of residue near 600°C increased slightly with increase of the crosslinking mesogens in the fluorinated polymer systems. The samples IP , IIP , IIIP and IVP showed both smectic A and nematic phases when they were heated and cooled, but VP and VIP exhibited only a nematic mesophase. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of polymers increased slightly with increase of crosslinking mesogens in the polymer systems, but the mesophase–isotropic phase transition temperature (Ti) and smectic A–nematic mesophase transition temperature (TS‐N) decreased slightly. It suggests that the temperature range of the mesophase became narrow with the increase of crosslinking mesogens for all the fluorinated polymers and elastomers. In XRD curves, the intensity of sharp reflections at low angle decreased with increase of crosslinking mesogens in the fluorinated polymers systems, indicating that the smectic order derived from fluorinated mesogenic units should be destroyed by introduction of more crosslinking mesogens. A series of fully aromatic, thermotropic polyesters, derived from 3,4′-dihydroxybenzophenone and various aromatic dicarboxylic acids, was prepared by the high-temperature solution polycondensation method and examined for thermotropic behavior by a variety of experimental techniques. The aromatic dicarboxylic acids used in this study were 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, 4,4′-bibenzoic acid, and terephthalic acid. The two homopolymers of 3,4′-DHB with either 2,6-NDA or 4,4′-BBA formed nematic LC phases at 285°C and 255°C and also exhibited isotropization transitions (Ti) at 317°C and 339°C, respectively. The copolymer of 3,4′-DHB with 50% TA and 50% 2,6-NDA also formed a nematic LC phase and had a broader range of LC phase than that of its respective homopolymers. Two other copolymers of 3,4′-DHB, both containing 50% 4,4′-BBA, also formed nematic LC phases at low Tf values. All of the thermotropic polyesters had high thermal stabilities. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A series of main chain liquid crystalline ionomers containing sulphonate groups pendent to the polymer backbone were synthesized by an interfacial condensation reaction of 4,4′‐bis(1,10‐sebacyloxo)benzoic acid, brilliant yellow (BY), and 4,4′‐biphenyldiol. 4,4′‐Bis(1,10‐sebacyloxo)benzoic acid exhibited nematic schlieren texture during heating and cooling. The ionomers are thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers and thermally stable to about 270°C. They exhibit broad mesophase regions over a range of 220°C and the same nematic mesomogen with a colourful thread texture as B0‐LCP, which implies that the introduction of an ionic group did not change the texture of the B0‐LCP. However, the thermotropic liquid crystalline properties were somewhat weakened when the concentration of BY was more than 5%. The inherent viscosity in N,N‐dimethylformamide solution suggested that intermolecular associations of sulphonate groups occurred at low concentration, and intermolecular associations predominated at higher concentration.  相似文献

The dielectric permittivity tensor components, εII and ε, in the nematic phase of 6CB (4‐n‐hexyl‐4′‐cyanobiphenyl) were measured in the pressure range 0.1–130 MPa and the temperature range 12–58°C. The dielectric anisotropy, Δε(p, V, T) = εII ‐ ε, was analysed in isothermal, isobaric and isochoric conditions taking into account the pVT data and the well known Maier and Meier equation. On that basis the nematic order parameter S(p, V, T) was determined. This was used to calculate the parameter Γ relating the interaction potential with the volume (density). Its value Γ = 4.1 agrees very well with other estimates.  相似文献

Series of mesogenic laterally fluorinated compounds, 2-(2′,3′-difluoro-4′-alkoxybiphenyl-4-yl)-benzoxazole derivatives (nB-Fx) bearing different substituents (H, CH3, Cl, NO2, coded as nB-FH, nB-FM, nB-FC and nB-FN, respectively) at 5-position, were prepared and characterised. Their phase transition behaviour was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and polarising optical microscopy. nB-Fx with alkoxy chain lengths of 2 to 10 carbons exhibited enantiotropic mesophases, for which the mesophase ranges were 0°C–58°C and 0°C–71°C on heating and cooling for nB-FH, 41°C–93°C and 66°C–140°C for nB-FM, 44°C–133°C and 87°C–155°C for nB-FC, and 0°C–76°C and 0°C–95°C for nB-FN, respectively. Compared to non-fluorinated analogues, with the exception of nB-FC, fluorinated nB-Fx mainly exhibited nematic mesophase both in heating and cooling, which were attributed to the disruption of the side-to-side intermolecular packing caused by the two ortho-lateral fluoro substituents. For nB-Fx series, nB-FM, nB-FC and nB-FN exhibited a much wider mesophase range than the corresponding nB-FH series, which indicated that the substituent at benzoxazole moiety was helpful in increasing the mesophase stability. With the exception of nB-FN, the nB-Fx series displayed intense photoluminescence emission at 379–383 nm in methylene chloride solution, when it was excited at its absorption maxima.  相似文献

The thermophysical properties of mixtures of poly (2-phenoxyethylacrylate) and 4-cyano-4′-pentyl-biphenyl, 5CB, are investigated using polarizing optical microscopy (POM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The polymer has a molar mass M w = 181 000 g mol -1 the low molecular mass liquid crystal exhibits a nematic to isotropic transition at 35.3°C and crystallizes below 23°C. The phase diagram exhibits miscibility gaps in certain regions of temperature and composition where coexisting nematic and isotropic phases are found. From a practical point of view when considering the electro-optical applications of these systems, it proves to be useful to know precisely the amount of small liquid crystal molecules dissolved in the polymer matrix and the concentration of polymer in the nematic phase. The former quantity has a mechanical impact due to a plasticizing effect, an optical impact since it changes the polymer refractive index, while the polymer in the nematic phase shifts the transition temperatures influencing the electro-optical response of the liquid crystal. The present work addresses these important aspects using POM and DSC.  相似文献

Abstract

The compound 4-cyano-4′-(α,α,α-trifluoromethoxy)biphenyl (1OCBF3) has been synthesized. Unlike the fully protonated analogue, 4-cyano-4′-methoxybiphenyl (1OCB), it does not show a liquid crystalline phase on cooling from the melting point (51°C) to room temperature. The transition temperature to a monotropic nematic phase was obtained as approximately 0°C by determining the transition temperatures of mixtures with 1OCB. The structures, conformational properties and orientational ordering of both 1OCB and 1OCBF3 as solutes in a nematic solvent ZLI 1132 have been investigated via the 17 dipolar couplings obtained by analysing the proton and fluorine NMR spectra of these solutions. It is concluded that the major difference between the two molecules lies in the potential, V2), governing rotation about the ring–oxygen bonds. In 1OCB the potential has the same form as in anisole, with a minimum when the C–O bond is in the plane of the attached ring (φ2 = 0°), and a maximum of about 15 kJ mol?1 when φ2 is 90°. In 1OCBF3 the barrier to rotation about the ring–O bond decreases substantially to being near zero.  相似文献

Thermotropic liquid-crystalline polyquinolines with high molecular weights, i.e., poly[2,2′-(α,ω-dioxyphenylene (or -dioxybiphenylene) alkane)-6,6′-(4,4′-dioxybiphenyl)-bis(4-phenylquinoline)]s (P-H-B1Mns or P-H-B2Mns), were synthesized by polycondensation of 4,4′-bis(4-amino-3-benzoylphenoxy)biphenyl and α,ω-bis(4-acetophenoxy (or -acetobiphenoxy))alkanes. For P-H-B1Mn series, the Tm and Ti were in the range of 129–230°C and 156–254°C, respectively, while for the P-H-B2Mn series, those were 182–275°C and 217–309°C, respectively. The introduction of both the dioxybiphenylene group and an alkylene spacer induced thermotropic liquid crystallinity in the polyquinoline, although the introduction of the alkylene spacer alone did not induce it. In addition, polyquinolines substituted with methyl, methoxy, and chloro groups exhibited larger mesophase temperature ranges as well as higher Tms and Tis than the unsubstituted ones. Tensile strengths of these thermotropic polyquinolines were considerably high in the range of 770 to 1170 kgf/cm2. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 749–759, 1998  相似文献

New monocyclic and bicyclic thiophene-based diaryl-diacetylene liquid crystal (LC) materials were synthesised and demonstrated to exhibit wide enantiotropic nematic phases. One thiophenyl-benzene derivative, in particular, displayed a stable nematic phase across a temperature range of over 100°C. The birefringence properties of the compounds were measured using a multiple-beam interference (MBI) method, with the highest value found to be for the same thiophenyl-benzene molecule (Δn = 0.57, 550 nm) at 10°C above the crystal-to-nematic transition temperature. Furthermore, the effects of the cyclic structure on the mesomorphic behaviours, transition temperatures, and birefringence properties were investigated in detail from both experimental and theoretical viewpoints.  相似文献

A novel spirobichroman unit containing dietheramine, 6,6′-bis(4-aminophenoxy)-4,4,4′,4′,7,7′-hexamethyl-2,2′-spirobichroman ( 3 ), was prepared by the nucleophilic substitution of 6,6′-dihydroxy-4,4,4′,4′,7,7′-hexamethyl-2,2′-spirobichroman with p-chloronitrobenzene in the presence of K2CO3 followed by hydrazine catalytic reduction of the intermediate dinitro compound. A series of polyimides were synthesized from diamine 3 and various aromatic dianhydrides by a conventional two-stage procedure through the formation of poly(amic-acid)s followed by thermal imidization. The intermediate poly(amic-acid)s had inherent viscosities of 1.00–2.78 dL/g. All the poly-(amic-acid)s could be thermally cyclodehydrated into flexible and tough polyimide films, and some polyimides were soluble in polar solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). These polyimides had glass transition temperatures (Tg) in the range of 236–256°C, and 10% weight loss occurred up to 450°C. Furthermore, a series of polyamides and poly(amide-imide)s with inherent viscosities of 0.71–2.29 dL/g were prepared by direct polycondensation of the diamine 3 with various aromatic dicarboxylic acids and imide ring-containing dicarboxylic acids by means of triphenyl phosphite and pyridine. All the polyamides and poly(amide-imide)s were readily soluble in polar solvents such as DMAc, and tough and flexible films could be cast from their DMAc solutions. These polymers had glass transition temperatures in the range of 137–228°C and 10% weight loss temperatures in the range of 419–443°C in air and 404–436°C in nitrogen, respectively. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ABSTRACT

The synthesis and characterisation of several members of the 1,ω-bis(4-cyanobiphenyl-4′-yl) alkane (CBnCB) and the 1-(4-cyanobiphenyl-4′-yloxy)-ω-(4-cyanobiphenyl-4′-yl) alkane (CBnOCB) homologous series are reported. The new odd members described CB5CB, CB13CB, CB4OCB, CB8OCB and CB10OCB all exhibit twist-bend nematic and nematic phases. The members of these series already reported in literature, CB7CB, CB9CB, CB11CB and CB6OCB, were also prepared in order to allow for a direct comparison of their transitional properties. The properties of these dimers are also compared to those of the corresponding members of the 1,ω-bis(4-cyanobiphenyl-4,-yloxy) alkanes (CBOnOCB). For any given total spacer length, for odd members of these series, the nematic–isotropic transition temperatures and associated entropy changes are greatest for the CBOnOCB dimer and lowest for the CBnCB dimer. These trends are understood in terms of molecular shape. For short spacer lengths, the twist-bend nematic–nematic transition temperature (TNTBN) is higher for the CBnOCB series than for the CBnCB series but this is reversed as the spacer length increases. Of the CBOnOCB dimers, a virtual value of TNTBN was estimated for CBO3OCB and TNTBN was measured for CBO5OCB. These values are considerably lower than those observed for the corresponding members of the CBnCB or CBnOCB series. The dependence of TNTBN on molecular structure is discussed not only in terms of the molecular curvature but also in the ability of the molecules to pack efficiently. As the temperature range of the preceding nematic phase increases, so the twist-bend nematic–nematic transition entropy change decreases and the transition approaches second order for the longer spacers. For comparative purposes, the transitional behaviour of the even-membered dimers CB6CB, CB5OCB and CBO4OCB is reported and differences accounted for in terms of molecular shape.  相似文献

A series of thermotropic polyesters, derived from 4,4′‐biphenol (BP), 3‐phenyl‐4,4′‐biphenol (MPBP), and 3,3′‐bis(phenyl)‐4,4′‐biphenol (DPBP), 4,4′‐oxybisbenzoic acid (4,4′‐OBBA), and other aromatic dicarboxylic acids as comonomers, were prepared by melt polycondensation and were characterized for their thermotropic liquid‐crystalline (LC) properties with a variety of experimental techniques. The homopolymer of BP with 4,4′‐OBBA and its copolymers with either 50 mol % terephthalic acid or 2,6‐naphthalenedicarboxylic acid had relatively high values of the crystal‐to‐nematic transition (448–460 °C), above which each of them formed a nematic LC phase. In contrast, the homopolymers of MPBP and DPBP had low fusion temperatures and low isotropization temperatures and formed nematic melts above the fusion temperatures. Each of these two polymers also exhibited two glass‐transition temperatures, which were associated with vitrified noncrystalline (amorphous) regions and vitrified LC domains, as obtained directly from melt polycondensation. As expected, they had higher glass‐transition temperatures (176–211 °C) than other LC polyesters and had excellent thermal stability (516–567 °C). The fluorescence properties of the homopolymer of DPBP with 4,4′‐OBBA, which was soluble in common organic solvents such as chloroform and tetrahydrofuran, were also included in this study. For example, it had an absorption spectrum (λmax = 259 and 292 nm), an excitation spectrum (λex = 258 and 292 nm with monitoring at 350 nm), and an emission spectrum (λem = 378 nm with excitation at 330 nm) in chloroform. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Copoly(4,4′-oxanilideterephthalamide—4,4′-phenyleneterephthalamide) (A-202/PPD) was synthesized by reaction of 4,4′-diaminooxanilide, p-phenylenediamine, and terephthaloyl chloride in organic solvents. Copolymer inherent viscosities in H2SO4 as high as 10.3 were obtained. Isotropic copolymer solutions (4%—5% concentration) of A-202/40%–80% PPD were spun to fibers with tenacity/elongation/modulus at 1% extension in the 13–14 gpd/1.5%–2%/700–1000 gpd range. Oxamide and amide stabilities in 98–100% H2SO4 and 20% oleum were compared. Poly(4,4′-oxanilideterephthalamide) (A-202), A-202/PPD copolymers, and poly(4,4′-phenyleneterephthalamide) (PPT) were unstable in 20% oleum, but all proved relatively stable in 100% H2SO4. However, the oxamide linkage proved less stable than the amide linkage in 98% H2SO4. A-202 and A-202/PPD copolymers formed stable anisotropic spinning solutions in 1% oleum at 10–20% concentrations. Dynamic mechanical analyses (Vibron) showed no glass transition temperature (Tg) below 200°C. Dilatometric measurement of A-202/50% PPD revealed a Tg at 257°C. Differential thermal analyses of A-202/40–80% PPD exhibited endotherms at 470–480°C. Thermogravimetric analyses showed no significant weight loss below 400°C.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In order to study the influence of lateral Br substitution on mesophase behaviour, five homologous series of 4-substituted phenylazo phenyl 4?-(3?-bromo-4?-alkoxyphenylazo) benzoates (Ina–e) have been synthesised. Within each homologous series, the alkoxy group varies from 6 to 16 carbons, while other terminal group substituents, X, are CH3O, CH3, H, Br and NO2 groups; the mesophase behaviour of these series is compared with previously prepared laterally neat analogues, 4-substituted phenylazo phenyl 4?-(4?-alkoxyphenylazo) benzoates (IIna–e) and laterally methyl analogues, 4-substituted phenylazo phenyl 4?-(3?-methyl-4?-alkoxyphenylazo) benzoates (IIIna–e). Similar to lateral methyl analogues, the present series, lateral Br substitution showed that, independent of the polarity of the substituent X or the alkoxy-chain length, the nematic phase is predominant with relatively high stability and broad temperature ranges. The mesophase stability varies between 204.0°C and 335.0°C for the nematic phase and 169.6°C and 281.0°C for the SmA phase. Their total mesophase temperature ranges vary between 87.2°C and 201.4°C. All compounds were found to be thermally stable within the mesophase temperature range, except the lower homologue of the nitro and Br substituted derivatives. The obtained results are discussed in terms of molecular polarisability.  相似文献

New diacrylate monomers for cyclopolymerization were synthesized from the reaction of ethyl α-chloromethylacrylate (ECMA) and t-butyl α-bromomethyl acrylate (TBBr) with aniline, adamantyl amine, t-butyl amine, cyanamide, and 4-tetradecyl aniline in yields of ca. 50–70%. Bulk and solution polymerizations with azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) at 60–85°C gave soluble cyclopolymers with Mn and Mw ranging from 10,000–30,000 and 12,000–40,000, respectively. The ECMA–cyanamide derivative only gave crosslinked polymers. 1H and 13C solution NMR indicated high cyclization efficiency (>93%). A prototype NLO polymer was synthesized from the reaction of the TBBr–aniline cyclopolymer with tetracyanoethylene. The p-hydroxyaniline derivative of ECMA was synthesized and used for further derivatizations; for example, the benzoate ester was made and polymerized (Mn = 21,260 and Mw = 40,317). The ester groups of the TBBrndash;aniline polymer were hydrolyzed completely to give a polymer with both acid and base moieties. DSC thermograms showed glass transitions of 132°C for the ECMA–aniline derivative, 192°C for the ECMA–adamantyl derivative, 53°C for the TBBr–tetradecylaniline derivative, and 120° for the ECMA–p-benzoylaniline derivative. The ECMA–t-butyl amine polymer showed no obvious Tg. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 35 : 2111–2121, 1997  相似文献

Abstract

Three types of nematogenic compound, 4-[2-(trans-4-alkylcyclohexyl)ethyl]-4′-alkyltolanes, 2-fluoro-4-[2-(trans-4-alkylcyclohexyl)ethyl]-4′-alkyltolanes and 4-[2-(trans-4-alkylcyclohexyl)ethyl]-4′-halogenotolanes, have been synthesized and their transition temperatures and enthalpies determined. Their bulk viscosity and birefringence have been estimated from those of mixtures with other liquid-crystalline compounds. These compounds have been found to be excellent materials for twisted nematic displays, because of their wide nematic temperature range, high birefringence (Δn = 0·26), and low viscosity (η = 21 cP at 20°C). Several related compounds having other central linkages, namely -CH2O-, a single bond or -COO-, in place of the 1,2-ethylene group, have also been studied.  相似文献

Two new phenyl‐ and naphthyl‐substituted rigid‐rod aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomers, 2,2′‐diphenylbiphenyl‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid ( 4 ) and 2,2′‐di(1‐naphthyl)biphenyl‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid ( 5 ), were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction of 2,2′‐diiodobiphenyl‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester with benzeneboronic acid and naphthaleneboronic acid, respectively, followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the ester groups. Four new polyhydrazides were prepared from the dicarboxylic acids 4 and 5 with terephthalic dihydrazide (TPH) and isophthalic dihydrazide (IPH), respectively, via the Yamazaki phosphorylation reaction. These polyhydrazides were amorphous and readily soluble in many organic solvents. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicated that these hydrazide polymers had glass transition temperatures in the range of 187–234 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the range of 300–400 °C. The resulting poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited Tg's in the range of 252–283 °C, 10% weight‐loss temperature in excess of 470 °C, and char yield at 800 °C in nitrogen higher than 54%. These organo‐soluble polyhydrazides and poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited UV–Vis absorption maximum at 262–296 and 264–342 nm in NMP solution, and their photoluminescence spectra showed maximum bands around 414–445 and 404–453 nm, respectively, with quantum yield up to 38%. The electron‐transporting properties were examined by electrochemical methods. Cyclic voltammograms of the poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole) films cast onto an indium‐tin oxide (ITO)‐coated glass substrate exhibited reversible reduction redox with Eonset at ?1.37 to ?1.57 V versus Ag/AgCl in dry N,N‐dimethylformamide solution. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Wholly aromatic, thermotropic homopolyesters, derived from 4,4′-biphenol, substituted biphenols, or 1,1′-binaphthyl-4,4′-diol and 3,4′-benzophenone dicarboxylic acid, and two copolyesters, each of which contained 30 mol % of 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, were prepared by acidolysis polycondensation reactions and characterized for their liquid crystalline properties. The solubility behavior of these polymers has also been investigated. The two homopolymers of phenyl-substituted biphenols with 3,4′-benzophenone dicarboxylic acid were soluble in many common organic solvents. All of the homopolymers had lower Tm/Tf values than those with terephthalic acid, which was attributed to the incorporation of the asymmetric 3,4′-benzophenone dicarboxylate units in a head-to-head and head-to-tail fashion along the polyester chain. Two copolymers had lower Tm values than those of the respective homopolymers, as expected. They formed nematic phases which persisted up to 400°C, except those of phenyl-substituted biphenols with 3,4′-benzophenone dicarboxylic acid. Each of these two polymers also exhibited an accessible Ti transition, and had a broad range of LC phase. They had glass transition temperatures, Tg, in the range of 139-209°C and high thermal stabilities in the temperature range of 465-511°C. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献
