This work reports the fabrication and characterization of multilayered gold nanoparticle (AuNP) thin films on aminosilane functionalized substrates. The films are fabricated via layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly using as-synthesized, un-modified AuNPs and poly(allylamine hydrochloride) as the building blocks. While most literature reports that AuNP based LbL assemblies are constructed with a single interlayer binding force, this work shows that both coordination and electrostatic interaction are involved in the process of assembly based on X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic results. The stepwise film growth behavior is demonstrated by atomic force spectroscopy and UV-vis spectroscopy. It is found that the particles agglomerate with each other and form large clusters when the number of assembled layers increases. 相似文献

The optical and electrical properties of 11-20 nm thick films composed of approximately 4 nm gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) interlinked by six organic dithiol or bis-dithiocarbamate derivatives were compared to investigate how these properties depend on the core of the linker molecule (benzene or cyclohexane) and its metal-binding substituents (thiol or dithiocarbamate). Films prepared with the thiol-terminated linker molecules, (1,4-bis(mercaptomethyl)benzene, 1,4-bis(mercaptomethyl)cyclohexane, 1,4-bis(mercaptoacetamido)benzene, and 1,4-bis(mercaptoacetamido)cyclohexane), exhibit thermally activated charge transport. The activation energies lie between 59 and 71 meV. These films show distinct plasmon absorption bands with maxima between 554 and 589 nm. In contrast, the film prepared with 1,4-cyclohexane-bis(dithiocarbamate) has a significantly red-shifted plasmon band ( approximately 626 nm) and a pronounced absorbance in the near infrared. The activation energy for charge transport is only 14 meV. These differences are explained in terms of the formation of a resonant state at the interface due to overlap of the molecular orbital and metal wave function, leading to an apparent increase in NP diameter. The film prepared with 1,4-phenylene-bis(dithiocarbamate) exhibits metallic properties, indicating the full extension of the electron wave function between interlinked NPs. In all cases, the replacement of the benzene ring with a cyclohexane ring in the center of the linker molecule leads to a 1 order of magnitude decrease in conductivity. A linear relationship is obtained when the logarithm of conductivity is plotted as a function of the number of nonconjugated bonds in the linker molecules. This suggests that nonresonant tunneling along the nonconjugated parts of the molecule governs the electron tunneling decay constant (beta(N)(-)(CON)), while the contribution from the conjugated parts of the molecule is weak (corresponding to resonant tunneling). The obtained value for beta(N)(-)(CON) is approximately 1.0 (per non-conjugated bond) and independent of the nanoparticle-binding group. Hence, the molecules can be viewed as consisting of serial connections of electrically insulating (nonconjugated) and conductive (conjugated) parts. 相似文献

The understanding of surface properties of core-shell type nanoparticles is important for exploiting the unique nanostructured catalytic properties. We report herein findings of a spectroscopic investigation of the thermal treatment of such nanoparticle assemblies. We have studied assemblies of gold nanocrystals of approximately 2 nm core sizes that are capped by alkanethiolate shells and are assembled by covalent or hydrogen-bonding linkages on a substrate as a model system. The structural evolution of the nanoparticle assemblies treated at different temperatures was probed by several spectroscopic techniques, including UV-visible, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that the capping/linking shell molecules can be effectively removed to produce controllable surface and optical properties. The data further revealed that the thermally induced evolution of the surface plasmon resonance property of gold nanoparticles is dependent on the chemical nature of the linker molecule. The spectral evolution is discussed in terms of changes in particle size, interparticle distance, and dielectric medium properties, which has important implications for controlled preparation and thermal processing of core-shell nanostructured metal catalysts. 相似文献

Nitroexplosives, such as 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) which is a leading example of nitroaromatic explosives, are causing wide concern. Motivated by the urgent demand for trace analysis of explosives, novel surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy substrates based upon highly ordered Au nanoparticles have been fabricated by a simple droplet evaporation method. It is noteworthy that an ethylhexadecyldimethyl ammonium bromide bilayer surrounding each individual nanoparticle not only is responsible for these periodic gap structures, but also tends to promote the adsorption of TNT on the composite NPs, thus resulting in a considerable increase of Raman signal. These desirable features endow the resulting SERS substrates with excellent enhancement ability and allow for a label-free detection of common plastic explosive materials even with a concentration as low as 10−9 M. 相似文献

We report an enzymatic method to control the plasmon resonance absorbance of gold nanoparticle (AuNP) arrays assembled on hyaluronic acids. While multiple electrostatic interactions between cysteamine on the AuNPs and the carboxylic acid residues in the whole intact hyaluronic acid induced the formation of large aggregates, precise control of the plasmon absorbance was possible by tailoring the size of the bio-polymeric templates with hyaluronidase, almost over the entire range of the resonant coupling wavelengths. It was possible to precisely tune the position of the second plasmon absorbance by manipulating the amount of the template and the enzymatic hydrolysis time. Finally, we were able to produce a chain-like array of AuNPs, which was nearly one dimensional, with a maximum shift of up to 189 nm in the plasmon absorbance at the optimal hydrolysis time of the templates. This enzymatic method can be used as a useful tool to tailor the plasmonic properties of the nanostructures required for specific applications. 相似文献

Dodecanethiol-stabilized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were deposited via a gas-expanded liquid (GXL) technique utilizing CO(2)-expanded hexane onto substrates of different surface energy. The different surface energies were achieved by coating silicon (100) substrates with various organic self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). Following the deposition of AuNP films, the films were characterized to determine the effect of substrate surface energy on nanoparticle film deposition and growth. Interestingly, the critical surface tension of a given substrate does not directly describe nanoparticle film morphology. However, the results in this study indicate a shift between layer-by-layer and island film growth based on the critical surface tension of the capping ligand. Additionally, the fraction of surface area covered by the AuNP film decreases as the oleophobic nature of the surfaces increases. On the basis of this information, the potential exists to engineer nanoparticle films with desired morphologies and characteristics. 相似文献

This paper presents the study of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for Rhodamine 6G (R6G)-linked gold (Au) assemblies. The nano-assemblies fabricated with Au nanoparticles, having diameters (D) of ~5–40 nm, possessed interparticle gaps of ~0.03–0.2D, respectively. The R6G-linked Au assemblies displayed weak spectral shifts of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) mode at shorter wavelength region and large fractional red-shifts Δλ ~ 0.07–0.47λo at longer wavelength region. The resonant spectral coupling of the nano-assemblies LSPR mode at the longer wavelength region and the optical excitation at ~785 nm, in addition to the highly localized hot spots, could support the large SERS enhancement of R6G-linked Au assemblies. 相似文献

Gold nanoparticles having peptide chains on the surfaces have been prepared yb ring-opening polymerization of gamma-methyl L-glutamate N-carboxyanhydride with fixed amino groups on the nanoparticle surface as an initiator. The number of peptide chains on the surface was adjusted to ca. 2 molecules per gold nanoparticle by controlling the number of fixed amino groups on the surface. The peptide chains on the surface were partially saponified to obtain poly(gamma-methyl L-glutamate-co-L-glutamic acid) with 28 mol% of glutamic acid residues. The number-average molecular weight of the peptide was 73,000. We described structural control of the peptide-coated gold nanoparticle assembly by conformational transition of the surface peptides. In deionized water, the peptide chains on the nanoparticle took a random coil conformation, and the individual nanoparticles existed in dispersed globular species. On the other hand, the peptide chains on the nanoparticle took an alpha-helical conformation in trifluoroethanol. Under this condition, the alpha-helical peptide chains on distinct gold nanoparticles connected the nanoparticles to form a fibril assembly owing to the dipole-dipole interaction between the surface peptide chains. The morphology of the peptide-coated gold nanoparticle assembly could be controlled by the conformational transition of surface peptides, which was attended by solution composition changes. 相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopic detection of Bacillus subtilis spores using gold nanoparticle based substrates 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The detection of bacterial spores requires the capability of highly sensitive and biocompatible probes. This report describes the findings of an investigation of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopic (SERS) detection of Bacillus subtilis spores using gold-nanoparticle (Au NP) based substrates as the spectroscopic probe. The SERS substrates are shown to be highly sensitive for the detection of B. subtilis spores, which release calcium dipicolinate (CaDPA) as a biomarker. The SERS bands of CaDPA released from the spores by extraction using nitric acid provide the diagnostic signal for the detection, exhibiting a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.5×10(9) spores L(-1) (or 2.5×10(-14) M). The LOD for the Au NP based substrates is quite comparable with that reported for Ag nanoparticle based substrates for the detection of spores, though the surface adsorption equilibrium constant is found to be smaller by a factor of 1-2 orders of magnitude than the Ag nanoparticle based substrates. The results have also revealed the viability of SERS detection of CaDPA released from the spores under ambient conditions without extraction using any reagents, showing a significant reduction of the diagnostic peak width for the detection. These findings have demonstrated the viability of Au NP based SERS substrates for direct use with high resolution and sensitivity as a biocompatible probe for the detection of bacterial spores. 相似文献

Gold nanoparticles having sequential alternating amphiphilic peptide chains, Phe-(Leu-Glu)8, on the surface have been prepared. We describe structural control of the amphiphilic peptide coated gold nanoparticle assembly by a conformational transition of the surface peptides. Under the acidic condition, the conformation of the surface amphiphilic peptide was converted to a beta-sheet structure from an aggregated alpha-helix by incubation. Under this condition, the amphiphilic peptide coated gold nanoparticles formed a nanosheet assembly. The plasmon absorption maximum of the gold nanoparticles shifted to a shorter wavelength with the formation of the beta-sheet assembly of the surface peptide. This suggests that the structure of the peptide coated gold nanoparticle assembly could be controlled by the conformational transition of the surface peptide. Furthermore, the core gold nanoparticle could be fixed in the beta-sheet assembly in the state that stood alone. This system may be useful for novel molecular devices that exhibit quantized properties. 相似文献

We investigated the growth of small gold particles on thin alumina substrates obtained by oxidation of aluminum. The particles were vapor deposited in vacuum from a Knudsen cell source with a vapor rate of 1·1013 cm?2·s?1. In our experiments small Au particles on Al2O3 were examined by electron microscopy. From electron micrographs we draw a size histogram of Au particles depending on the mean deposit thickness and the deposition rate. For a mean thickness larger than 1.5 nm the particle size distributions show two peaks. The shapes and the positions of these two peaks allow us to determine the particle growth mechanism and to evidence the importance of the liquid-like coalescence resulting of diffusion and collision of the aggregates. 相似文献

Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are extensively used to modify substrates to prevent nonspecific protein adsorption and to increase hydrophilicity. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis, complemented by water contact angle measurements, is employed to investigate the formation and stability upon aging and heating of PEG monolayers formed on gold and silicon nitride substrates. In particular, thiolated PEG monolayers on gold, with and without the addition of an undecylic spacer chain, and PEG monolayers formed with oxysilane precursors on silicon nitride have been probed. It is found that PEG-thiol SAMs are degraded after less than two weeks of exposure to air and when heated at temperatures as low as 120 degrees C. On the contrary, PEG-silane SAMs are stable for more than two weeks, and fewer molecules are desorbed even after two months of aging, compared to those desorbed in two weeks from the PEG-thiol SAMs. A strongly bound hydration layer is found on PEG-silane SAMs aged for two months. Heating PEG-silane SAMs to temperatures as high as 160 degrees C improves the quality of the monolayer, desorbing weakly bound contaminants. The differences in stability between PEG-thiol SAMs and PEG-silane SAMs are ascribed to the different types of bonding to the surface and to the fact that the thiol-Au bond can be easily oxidized, thus causing desorption of PEG molecules from the surface. 相似文献

Electrostatic assembly of cationic nanoparticles onto the negatively charged backbone of double-stranded DNA has been shown to produce one-dimensional chains with potential use as nanoelectronic components. In this paper, micron long DNA templates stretched on aminosilane- and hexamethyldisilazane-modified silicon surfaces are used to assemble 3.5 nm gold nanoparticles passivated with cationic thiocholine. Atomic force microscopy is used to analyze the density and defects along the approximately 5 nm high structures, with comparison between positively charged and neutral surfaces. Low background adsorption of nanoparticles is facilitated by both these surface chemistries, while the neutral surface yields a more densely packed assembly. 相似文献

A highly reproducible and facile method for formation of ordered 2 dimensional arrays of CTAB protected 50 nm gold nanoparticles bonded to silicon wafers is described. The silicon wafers have been chemically modified with long-chain silanes terminated with thiol that penetrate the CTAB bilayer and chemically bind to the underlying gold nanoparticle. The silicon wafer provides a reproducibly smooth, chemically functionalizable and non-fluorescent substrate with a silicon phonon mode which may provide a convenient internal frequency and intensity calibration for vibrational spectroscopy. The CTAB bilayer provides a potentially biomimetic environment for analyte, yet allows a sufficiently small nanoparticle separation to achieve a significant electric field enhancement. The arrays have been characterized using SEM and Raman spectroscopy. These studies reveal that the reproducibility of the arrays is excellent both between batches (<10% RSD) and across a single batch (<5% RSD). The arrays also exhibit good stability, and the effect of temperature on the arrays was also investigated. The interaction of protein and amino acid with the nanoparticle arrays was investigated using Raman microscopy to investigate their potential in bio-SERS spectroscopy. Raman of phenylalanine and the protein bovine pancreatic trypsin inhibitor, BPTI were studied using 785 nm excitation, coincident with the surface plasmon absorbance of the array. The arrays exhibit SERS enhancements of the order of 2.6 x 10(4) for phenylalanine, the standard deviation on the relative intensity of the 1555 cm(-1) mode of phenylalanine is less than 10% for 100 randomly distributed locations across a single substrate and less than 20% between different substrates. Significantly, comparisons of the Raman spectra of the protein and phenylalanine in solution and immobilized on the nanoparticle arrays indicates that the protein is non-randomly orientated on the arrays. Selective SERS enhancements suggest that aromatic residues penetrate through the bilayer inducing conformational changes in the protein. 相似文献

Polyelectrolyte/gold nanoparticle multilayers composed of poly(l-lysine) (pLys) and mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA) stabilized gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) were built up using the electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly technique upon a gold electrode modified with a first layer of MSA. The assemblies were characterized using UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, cyclic and square-wave voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Charge transport through the multilayer was studied experimentally as well as theoretically by using two different redox pairs [Fe(CN)(6)](3-/4-) and [Ru(NH(3))(6)](3+/2+). This paper reports a large sensitivity to the charge of the outermost layer for the permeability of these assemblies to the probe ions. With the former redox pair, dramatic changes in the impedance response were obtained for thin multilayers each time a new layer was deposited. In the latter case, the multilayer behaves as a conductor exhibiting a strikingly lower impedance response, the electric current being enhanced as more layers are added for Au NP terminated multilayers. These results are interpreted quite satisfactorily by means of a capillary membrane model that encompasses the wide variety of behaviors observed. It is concluded that nonlinear slow diffusion through defects (pinholes) in the multilayer is the governing mechanism for the [Fe(CN)(6)](3-/4-) species, whereas electron transfer through the Au NPs is the dominant mechanism in the case of the [Ru(NH(3))(6)](3+/2+) pair. 相似文献
