Constructing inorganic–organic hybrids with superior properties in terms of water adsorption and activation will lead to catalysts with significantly enhanced electrocatalytic activity in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in environmentally benign neutral media. Herein, we report SiO2–polypyrrole (PPy) hybrid nanotubes supported on carbon fibers (CFs) (SiO2 /PPy NTs–CFs) as inexpensive and high‐performance electrocatalysts for the HER in neutral media. Because of the strong electronic interactions between SiO2 and PPy, the SiO2 uniquely serves as the centers for water adsorption and activation, and accordingly promotes the HER. The metal‐free SiO2 /PPy NTs–CFs displayed high catalytic activity in the HER in neutral media, such as a low onset potential and small Tafel slope, as well as excellent long‐term durability.  相似文献

Electrochemical water splitting for hydrogen generation is a vital part for the prospect of future energy systems, however, the practical utilization relies on the development of highly active and earth‐abundant catalysts to boost the energy conversion efficiency as well as reduce the cost. Molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2) is a promising nonprecious metal‐based electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acidic media, but it exhibits inferior alkaline HER kinetics in great part due to the sluggish water adsorption/dissociation process. Herein, the alkaline HER kinetics of MoSe2 is substantially accelerated by heteroatom doping with transition metal ions. Specifically, the Ni‐doped MoSe2 nanosheets exhibit the most impressive catalytic activity in terms of lower overpotential and larger exchange current density. The density functional theory (DFT) calculation results reveal that Ni/Co doping plays a key role in facilitating water adsorption as well as optimizing hydrogen adsorption. The present work paves a new way to the development of low‐cost and efficient electrocatalysts towards alkaline HER.  相似文献

One of the challenges to realize large‐scale water splitting is the lack of active and low‐cost electrocatalysts for its two half reactions: H2 and O2 evolution reactions (HER and OER). Herein, we report that cobalt‐phosphorous‐derived films (Co‐P) can act as bifunctional catalysts for overall water splitting. The as‐prepared Co‐P films exhibited remarkable catalytic performance for both HER and OER in alkaline media, with a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at overpotentials of ?94 mV for HER and 345 mV for OER and Tafel slopes of 42 and 47 mV/dec, respectively. They can be employed as catalysts on both anode and cathode for overall water splitting with 100 % Faradaic efficiency, rivalling the integrated performance of Pt and IrO2. The major composition of the as‐prepared and post‐HER films are metallic cobalt and cobalt phosphide, which partially evolved to cobalt oxide during OER.  相似文献

Although electrocatalysts based on transition metal phosphides (TMPs) with cationic/anionic doping have been widely studied for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the origin of performance enhancement still remains elusive mainly due to the random dispersion of dopants. Herein, we report a controllable partial phosphorization strategy to generate CoP species within the Co‐based metal‐organic framework (Co‐MOF). Density functional theory calculations and experimental results reveal that the electron transfer from CoP to Co‐MOF through N‐P/N‐Co bonds could lead to the optimized adsorption energy of H2O (ΔG ) and hydrogen (ΔGH*), which, together with the unique porous structure of Co‐MOF, contributes to the remarkable HER performance with an overpotential of 49 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm?2 in 1 m phosphate buffer solution (PBS, pH 7.0). The excellent catalytic performance exceeds almost all the documented TMP‐based and non‐noble‐metal‐based electrocatalysts. In addition, the CoP/Co‐MOF hybrid also displays Pt‐like performance in 0.5 m H2SO4 and 1 m KOH, with the overpotentials of 27 and 34 mV, respectively, at a current density of 10 mA cm?2.  相似文献

Designing cost‐effective and efficient electrocatalysts plays a pivotal role in advancing the development of electrochemical water splitting for hydrogen generation. Herein, multifunctional active‐center‐transferable heterostructured electrocatalysts, platinum/lithium cobalt oxide (Pt/LiCoO2) composites with Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) anchored on LiCoO2 nanosheets, are designed towards highly efficient water splitting. In this electrocatalyst system, the active center can be alternatively switched between Pt species and LiCoO2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), respectively. Specifically, Pt species are the active centers and LiCoO2 acts as the co‐catalyst for HER, whereas the active center transfers to LiCoO2 and Pt turns into the co‐catalyst for OER. The unique architecture of Pt/LiCoO2 heterostructure provides abundant interfaces with favorable electronic structure and coordination environment towards optimal adsorption behavior of reaction intermediates. The 30 % Pt/LiCoO2 heterostructured electrocatalyst delivers low overpotentials of 61 and 285 mV to achieve 10 mA cm?2 for HER and OER in alkaline medium, respectively.  相似文献

Transition metal phosphide is regarded as one of the most promising candidates to replace noble-metal hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts. Nevertheless, the controllable design and synthesis of transition metal phosphide electrocatalysts with efficient and stable electrochemical performance are still very challenging. Herein, a novel hierarchical HER electrocatalyst consisting of three-dimensional (3D) coral-like Mn-doped Co2P@an intermediate layer of Ni2P generated in situ by phosphorization on Ni foam (MnCoP/NiP/NF) is reported. Notably, both the incorporation of Mn and introduction of the Ni2P interlayer promote Co atoms to carry more electrons, which is beneficial to reduce the force of the Co−H bond and optimize the adsorption energy of hydrogen intermediate (|ΔGH*|), thereby making MnCoP/NiP/NF exhibit outstanding HER performance with onset overpotential and Tafel slope as low as 31.2 mV and 61 mV dec−1, respectively, in 1 m KOH electrolyte.  相似文献

The development of high-performance non-precious metal-based robust bifunctional electrocatalyst for both hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) and oxygen evolution reactions(OER) in alkaline media is essential for the electrochemical overall water splitting technologies. Herein, we demonstrate that the HER/OER performance of Co Se2 can be significantly enhanced by tuning the 3d-orbital electron filling degree through Mo doping. Herein, we demonstrate the use of heterostructures comprised of Co/β‐Mo2C@N‐CNT hybrids for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline electrolyte. The Co can not only create a well‐defined heterointerface with β‐Mo2C but also overcomes the poor OER activity of β‐Mo2C, thus leading to enhanced electrocatalytic activity for HER and OER. DFT calculations further proved that cooperation between the N‐CNTs, Co, and β‐Mo2C results in lower energy barriers of intermediates and thus greatly enhances the HER and OER performance. This study not only provides a simple strategy for the construction of heterostructures with nonprecious metals, but also provides in‐depth insight into the HER and OER mechanism in alkaline solution.  相似文献

Transition metal hydroxides/oxyhydroxides have recently emerged as highly active electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water electrolysis, while have not yet been widely investigated for hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts owing to their unfavorable H*-adsorption, making it difficult to construct an overall-water-splitting cell for hydrogen production. In this work, we proposed a straightforward and effective approach to develop an efficient in-plane heterostructured CoOOH/Co(OH)2 catalyst via in-situ electrochemical dehydrogenation method, in which the dehydrogenated –CoOOH and Co(OH)2 at the surface synergistically boost the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics in base as confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscope, synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and electron energy loss spectroscopy. Due to the in-situ dehydrogenation of ultrathin Co(OH)2 nanosheets, the catalytic activity of the CoOOH/Co(OH)2 heterostructures is progressively improved, which exhibit outstanding hydrogen-evolving activity in base requiring a low overpotential of 132 mV to afford 10 mA/cm2 with very fast reaction kinetics after 60 h dehydrogenation. The gradually improved catalytic performance for the CoOOH/Co(OH)2 is probably due to the enhanced H*-adsorption induced by the synergistic effect of heterostructures and better conductivity of CoOOH relative to electrically insulating Co(OH)2. This work will open the opportunity for a new family of transition metal hydroxides/oxyhydroxides as active HER catalysts, and also highlight the importance of using in situ techniques to construct precious metal-free efficient catalysts for alkaline hydrogen evolution.  相似文献

Rational design and building of high efficiency, secure and inexpensive electrocatalyst is a pressing demand and performance to promote sustainable improvement of hydrogen energy. The bifunctional electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution response (HER) with high catalytic performance and steadiness in the equal electrolyte are extra treasured and meaningful. Herein, a unique three-dimensional (3D) structure electrocatalyst for NiCo2S4 growing on the flower-like NiFeP was designed and synthesized in this study. The results show that the flower-like NiCo2S4/NiFeP/NF composite electrocatalyst has large specific surface area, appropriate electrical conductivity, and greater lively websites uncovered in the three-dimensional structure, and affords extraordinary electrocatalytic overall performance for the ordinary water splitting. In alkaline solution, the OER and HER overpotentials of NiCo2S4/NiFeP/NF only need 293 mV and 205 mV overpotential to provide the current densities of 100 mA/cm2 and 50 mA/cm2, respectively. This high electrocatalytic activity exceeds the catalytic activity of most nickel-iron based electrocatalysts for OER and HER process. Accordingly, the optimized NiCo2S4/NiFeP/NF sample has higher stability (24 h) at 1.560 and 10 mA/cm2, which extensively speeds up the overall water splitting process. In view of the above performance, this work offers a fine approach for the further improvement of low fee and excessive effectivity electrocatalyst.  相似文献

The high cost and low reserves of noble metals greatly hinder their practical applications in new energy production and conversion. The exploration of cost-effective alternative electrocatalysts with the ability to drive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is extremely significant to promote overall water splitting. Herein, ultrathin CoSe2/CNTs nanocomposites have been synthesized by a facile two-step method, where the ultrathin Co-MOF (metal organic-framework) decorated with cable-like carbon nanotubes (CNTs) (Co-MOF/CNTs) was initially fabricated, and followed a low-temperature selenization process. The ultrathin CoSe2 nanosheets as well as the superior conductivity of CNTs synergistically resulted in abundant active sites and enhanced conductivity to boost the electrocatalytic activity. The as-prepared CoSe2/CNTs electrocatalysts exhibited an overpotential of 190 mV and 300 mV vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) at a current density of 10 mA/cm2 for the HER and OER in alkaline solution, respectively, and demonstrated superior durability. Furthermore, the as-prepared bifunctional CoSe2/CNTs electrocatalysts can act as cathode and anode in an electrolyzer, showing a cell voltage of 1.75 V at 10 mA/cm2 for overall water splitting.  相似文献

Herein, we demonstrate an easy way to improve the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity of Pt electrodes in alkaline media by introducing Ni–Fe clusters. As a result, the overpotential needed to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm?2 in H2‐saturated 0.1 m KOH is reduced for the model single‐crystal electrodes down to about 70 mV. To our knowledge, these modified electrodes outperform any other reported electrocatalysts tested under similar conditions. Moreover, the influence of 1) Ni to Fe ratio, 2) cluster coverage, and 3) the nature of the alkali‐metal cations present in the electrolyte on the HER activity has been investigated. The observed catalytic performance likely originates from both the improved water dissociation at the Ni–Fe clusters and the subsequent optimal hydrogen adsorption and recombination at Pt atoms present at the Ni–Fe/Pt boundary.  相似文献

Bifunctional electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline electrolyte may improve the efficiency of overall water splitting. Nickel cobaltite (NiCo2O4) has been considered a promising electrode material for the OER. However, NiCo2O4 that can be used as an electrocatalyst in HER has not been studied yet. Herein, we report self‐assembled hierarchical NiCo2O4 hollow microcuboids for overall water splitting including both the HER and OER reactions. The NiCo2O4 electrode shows excellent activity toward overall water splitting, with 10 mA cm?2 water‐splitting current reached by applying just 1.65 V and 20 mA cm?2 by applying just 1.74 V across the two electrodes. The synthesis of NiCo2O4 microflowers confirms the importance of structural features for high‐performance overall water splitting.  相似文献

Seawater electrolysis is considered an attractive alternative to conventional freshwater electrolysis for hydrogen production due to the abundance of seawater in nature. For this reason, efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline seawater are highly desired. In this study, we report an amorphous Co−P alloy on nickel foam (Co−P/NF) that behaves as an efficient and stable HER electrocatalyst for alkaline seawater electrolysis. The Co−P/NF presents high catalytic performance for HER, requiring a low overpotential of 213 mV to drive a current density of 100 mA cm−2 and a Tafel slope of 120.2 mV dec−1 in alkaline seawater. Furthermore, it shows remarkable electrochemical and structural stability in alkaline seawater.  相似文献

Both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are crucial to water splitting, but require alternative active sites. Now, a general π‐electron‐assisted strategy to anchor single‐atom sites (M=Ir, Pt, Ru, Pd, Fe, Ni) on a heterogeneous support is reported. The M atoms can simultaneously anchor on two distinct domains of the hybrid support, four‐fold N/C atoms (M@NC), and centers of Co octahedra (M@Co), which are expected to serve as bifunctional electrocatalysts towards the HER and the OER. The Ir catalyst exhibits the best water‐splitting performance, showing a low applied potential of 1.603 V to achieve 10 mA cm?2 in 1.0 m KOH solution with cycling over 5 h. DFT calculations indicate that the Ir@Co (Ir) sites can accelerate the OER, while the Ir@NC3 sites are responsible for the enhanced HER, clarifying the unprecedented performance of this bifunctional catalyst towards full water splitting.  相似文献

Even though transition‐metal phosphides (TMPs) have been developed as promising alternatives to Pt catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), further improvement of their performance requires fine regulation of the TMP sites related to their specific electronic structure. Herein, for the first time, boron (B)‐modulated electrocatalytic characteristics in CoP anchored on the carbon nanotubes (B‐CoP/CNT) with impressive HER activities over a wide pH range are reported. The HER performance surpasses commercial Pt/C in both neutral and alkaline media at large current density (>100 mA cm?2). A combined experimental and theoretical study identified that the B dopant could reform the local electronic configuration and atomic arrangement of bonded Co and adjacent P atoms, enhance the electrons’ delocalization capacity of Co atoms for high electrical conductivity, and optimize the free energy of H adsorption and H2 desorption on the active sites for better HER kinetics.  相似文献
