Nanotubular Fe2O3 is a promising photoanode material, and producing morphologies that withstand high‐temperature calcination (HTC) is urgently needed to enhance the photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance. This work describes the design and fabrication of Fe2O3 nanotube arrays that survive HTC for the first time. By introducing a ZrO2 shell on hydrothermal FeOOH nanorods by atomic layer deposition, subsequent high‐temperature solid‐state reaction converts FeOOH‐ZrO2 nanorods to ZrO2‐induced Fe2O3 nanotubes (Zr‐Fe2O3 NTs). The structural evolution of the hematite nanotubes is systematically explored. As a result of the nanostructuring and shortened charge collection distance, the nanotube photoanode shows a greatly improved PEC water oxidation activity, exhibiting a photocurrent density of 1.5 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE), which is the highest among hematite nanotube photoanodes without co‐catalysts. Furthermore, a Co‐Pi decorated Zr‐Fe2O3 NT photoanode reveals an enhanced onset potential of 0.65 V (vs. RHE) and a photocurrent of 1.87 mA cm−2 (at 1.23 V vs. RHE).  相似文献

The effect of flame annealing on the water‐splitting properties of Sn decorated hematite (α‐Fe2O3) nanoflakes has been investigated. It is shown that flame annealing can yield a considerable enhancement in the maximum photocurrent under AM 1.5 (100 mW cm?2) conditions compared to classic furnace annealing treatments. Optimizing the annealing time (10 s at 1000 °C) leads to a photocurrent of 1.1 mA cm?2 at 1.23 V (vs. RHE) with a maximum value 1.6 mA cm?2 at 1.6 V (vs. RHE) in 1 M KOH. The improvement in photocurrent can be attributed to the fast direct heating that maintains the nanoscale morphology, leads to optimized Sn decoration, and minimizes detrimental substrate effects.  相似文献

Significant charge recombination that is difficult to suppress limits the practical applications of hematite (α-Fe2O3) for photoelectrochemical water splitting. In this study, Ti-modified hematite mesocrystal superstructures assembled from highly oriented tiny nanoparticle (NP) subunits with sizes of ca. 5 nm were developed to achieve the highest photocurrent density (4.3 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE) ever reported for hematite-based photoanodes under back illumination. Owing to rich interfacial oxygen vacancies yielding an exceedingly high carrier density of 4.1×1021 cm−3 for super bulk conductivity in the electrode and a large proportion of ultra-narrow depletion layers (<1 nm) inside the mesoporous film for significantly improved hole collection efficiency, a boosting of multihole water oxidation with very low activation energy (Ea=44 meV) was realized.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of tin (Sn4+) modification on the surface of hematite electrodes synthesized by an aqueous solution route at different times (2, 5, 10, 18, and 24 h) is investigated. As confirmed from X‐ray diffraction results, the as‐synthesized electrode exhibits an oxyhydroxide phase, which is converted into a pure hematite phase after being subjected to additional thermal treatment at 750 °C for 30 min. The tin‐modified hematite electrode is prepared by depositing a solution of Sn4+ precursor on the as‐synthesized electrode, followed by thermal treatment under the same abovementioned conditions. This modification results in an enhancement of the photocurrent response for all hematite electrodes investigated and attains the highest values of around 1.62 and 2.3 mA cm?2 at 1.23 and 1.4 V versus RHE, respectively, for electrodes obtained in short synthesis times (2 h). Contact angle measurements suggest that the deposition of Sn4+ on the hematite electrode provides a more hydrophilic surface, which favors a chemical reaction at the interface between the electrode and electrolyte. This result generates new perspectives for understanding the deposition of Sn4+ on the hematite electrode surface, which is in contrast with several studies previously reported; these studies state that the enhancement in photocurrent density is related to either the induction of an increased donor charge density or shift in the flat‐band potential, which favors charge separation.  相似文献

Molecular Co4O4 cubane water oxidation catalysts were combined with BiVO4 electrodes for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. The results show that tuning the substituent groups on cobalt cubane allows the PEC properties of the final molecular catalyst/BiVO4 hybrid photoanodes to be tailored. Upon loading a new cubane complex featuring alkoxy carboxylato bridging ligands ( 1 h ) on BiVO4, an AM 1.5G photocurrent density of 5 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE for water oxidation was obtained, the highest photocurrent for undoped BiVO4 photoanodes. A high solar‐energy conversion efficiency of 1.84 % was obtained for the integrated photoanode, a sixfold enhancement over that of unmodified BiVO4. These results and the high surface charge separation efficiency support the role of surface‐modified molecular catalysts in improving PEC performance and demonstrate the potential of molecule/semiconductor hybrids for efficient artificial photosynthesis.  相似文献

Hematite is regarded as a promising photoanode for photoelectrochemical(PEC) water splitting. However, the charge recombination occurred at the interface of FTO/hematite strictly limits the PEC performance of hematite.Herein,we reported a Ti3C2 MXene underlayer modified hematite(Ti-Fe2O3) photoanode via a simple drop-casting followed by hydrothermal and annealing processes.Owing to the bifunctional role of Ti3C2 MXene underlayer in improving the interfacial properties of FTO/hematite and providing Ti source for the construction of Fe2 TiO5/Fe2O3 heterostructure in hematite nanostructure, the bulk and interfacial charge transfer dynamics of hematite are significantly enhanced, and consequently enhancing the PEC performance.Compared with the pristine hematite, the as-prepared Ti-Fe2O3 photoanode shows an increased photocurrent density from 0.80 mA/cm2 to 1.30 mA/cm2 at 1.23 V vs.RHE.Moreover,a further promoted PEC performance including a dramatically increased photocurrent density of 2.49 mA/cm2 at1.23 V vs.RHE and an obviously lowered onset potential is achieved for the Ti-Fe2O3 sample after the subsequent surface F-treatment and the loading of FeNiOOH cocatalyst.Such results suggest that the introduction of Ti3C2 MXene underlayer is a facile but effective approach to improve the PEC water splitting activity of hematite.  相似文献

This study introduces an in situ fabrication of nanoporous hematite with a Ti‐doped SiOx passivation layer for a high‐performance water‐splitting system. The nanoporous hematite with a Ti‐doped SiOx layer (Ti‐(SiOx/np‐Fe2O3)) has a photocurrent density of 2.44 mA cm?2 at 1.23 VRHE and 3.70 mA cm?2 at 1.50 VRHE. When a cobalt phosphate co‐catalyst was applied to Ti‐(SiOx/np‐Fe2O3), the photocurrent density reached 3.19 mA cm?2 at 1.23 VRHE with stability, which shows great potential of the use of the Ti‐doped SiOx layer with a synergistic effect of decreased charge recombination, the increased number of active sites, and the reduced hole‐diffusion pathway from the hematite to the electrolyte.  相似文献

Hematite(α-Fe_2O_3) is a promising photoanode for photoelectrochemical(PEC) water splitting. However, the severe charge recombination and sluggish water oxidation kinetics extremely limit its use in photohydrogen conversion.Herein,a co-activation strategy is proposed, namely through phosphorus(P)doping and the loading of CoAl-layered double hydroxides(CoAl-LDHs) cocatalysts.Unexpectedly, the integrated system,CoAl-LDHs/P-Fe_2O_3 photoanode, exhibits an outstanding photocurrent density of 1.56 mA/cm~2 at 1.23 V(vs.reversible hydrogen electrode,RHE),under AM 1.5 G,which is 2.6 times of pureα-Fe_2O_3.Systematic studies reveal that the remarkable PEC performance is attributed to accelerated surface OER kinetics and enhanced carrier separation efficiency. This work provides a feasible strategy to enhance the PEC performance of hematite photoanodes.  相似文献

Chemical bath deposition method has been used to synthesize a variety of ZnO morphology structures. However, the specificity and interaction of acetate and ammonium ions with ZnO crystal during the growth process remain elusive. This study contributes to understand the roles of ammonium acetate on the growth mechanism of ZnO in Zn(NO3)2-HMTA system. The growth process indicates that the nucleation experienced Zn2+-layered basic zinc salts (LBZs)-ZnO process, while the self-assembled unit changed from urchin-shaped, rod-shaped to a fully coupled twin-shaped structure with increasing ammonium acetate concentration. Ammonium acetate dominates the growth process by combing the ligand-ligand interaction of acetate ions binding to the same Zn-rich (0001) polar surface and ammonium ions regulating hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) hydrolysis. Relatively regular hexagonal wurtzite structure and a dissolve-renucleation-regrowth process which retains the twin-shaped template and renucleates at the same position are observed at ∼10 mM ammonium acetate. Photoelectrochemistry (PEC) measurements show that the uniform hexagonal ZnO rods (Y-10, the sample named as Y-x (x represents x mM ammonium acetate, herein, x is 10 mM)) have a maximum photocurrent density of 1.54 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V (vs. RHE), much higher than that of the dumbbell-shaped ZnO rods (Y-50, 0.20 mA cm−2) at the same voltage. These results provide a further explanation of morphology regulation mechanisms on ZnO synthesis processes and pave the road for more practical applications.  相似文献

The Z-scheme overall solar water splitting is a mimic of natural photosynthesis to convert solar energy into chemical energy. Since the energy levels of most organic semiconductors match well with the hydrogen evolution potential, they have great application prospects as photocathodes in Z-scheme photoelectrochemical systems. However, due to the weak light absorption and difficult carrier separation, the photocurrent density and onset potential of organic photocathodes are still low. To solve these problems, we introduced a copper nanosheets array (Cu NSA) framework under organic layers to increase the surface reaction sites, improve the light absorption and enhance the distribution range of built-in electric field simultaneously. As a result, the photocurrent density and onset potential of poly(3-hexylthiophene) : [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid (P3HT : PCBM) photocathode were enhanced significantly. The onset potential increased by 50 mV to 0.65 V vs. RHE, and the photocurrent density reached −1 mA cm−2 at 0 V vs. RHE, which was 18 times that of the sample without Cu NSA. The optimized photocathode was connected with titanium dioxide nanorods array photoanode in a tandem manner to realize the spontaneous overall water splitting. Without bias and co-catalyst, the photocurrent density was maintained at 110 μA cm−2 and the solar-to-fuel conversion efficiency was 0.14 % in neutral solution. These results provide a feasible method for optimizing the performance of organic photocathodes.  相似文献

Halide perovskites show incredible photovoltaic power conversion efficiency coupled with several hundreds of hours of device stability. However, their stability is poor in aqueous electrolyte media. Reported here is a vacancy ordered halide perovskite, Cs2PtI6, which shows extraordinary stability under ambient conditions (1 year), in aqueous media of extreme acidic (pH 1), basic (pH 13), and under electrochemical reduction conditions. It was employed as an electrocatalyst and photoanode for hydrogen production and water oxidation, respectively. The catalyst remains intact for at least 100 cycles of electrochemical cycling and six hours of hydrogen production at pH 1. Cs2PtI6 was employed as a photoanode for PEC water oxidation, and the material displayed a photocurrent of 0.8 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V (vs. RHE) under simulated AM1.5G sunlight. Using constant voltage measurement, Cs2PtI6 exhibited over 12 hours of PEC stability without loss of performance.  相似文献

Organic semiconductors are promising candidates as photoactive layers for photoelectrodes used in photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells due to their excellent light absorption and efficient charge transport properties with the help of interfacial materials. However, the use of multilayers will make the charge transfer mechanism more complicated and decrease the PEC performance of the photoelectrode caused by the increased contact resistance. In this work, a PM6:Y6 bulk heterojunction (BHJ)-based photocathode is fabricated for efficient PEC hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in an acidic aqueous solution. With RuO2 as an interfacial modification layer, the photocathode with a simple structure (fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO)/PM6:Y6/RuO2) generates a maximum photocurrent density up to ?15 mA/cm2 at 0 V vs. reference hydrogen electrode (RHE), outperforming all previously reported BHJ-based photocathodes in terms of PEC performance. The highest ratiometric power-saved efficiency of 3.7% is achieved at 0.4 V vs. RHE.  相似文献

A metal‐free photoanode nanojunction architecture, composed of B‐doped carbon nitride nanolayer and bulk carbon nitride, was fabricated by a one‐step approach. This type of nanojunction (s‐BCN) overcomes a few intrinsic drawbacks of carbon nitride film (severe bulk charge recombination and slow charge transfer). The top layer of the nanojunction has a depth of ca. 100 nm and the bottom layer is ca. 900 nm. The nanojunction photoanode results into a 10‐fold higher photocurrent than bulk graphitic carbon nitride (G‐CN) photoanode, with a record photocurrent density of 103.2 μA cm−2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE under one sun irradiation and an extremely high incident photon‐to‐current efficiency (IPCE) of ca. 10 % at 400 nm. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Mott–Schottky plots, and intensity‐modulated photocurrent spectroscopy show that such enhancement is mainly due to the mitigated deep trap states, a more than 10 times faster charge transfer rate and nearly three times higher conductivity due to the nanojunction architecture.  相似文献

Water splitting by photoelectrochemical (PEC) processes to convert solar energy into hydrogen energy using semiconductors is regarded as one of the most ideal methods to solve the current energy crisis and has attracted widespread attention. Herein, Co-based metal-organic framework (Co(bpdc)(H2O)4 (Co-MOF) nanosheets as passivation layers were in-situ constructed on the surface of BiVO4 films through an uncomplicated hydrothermal method (Co-MOF/BiVO4). Under AM 1.5G illumination, synthesized Co-MOF/BiVO4 electrode exhibited a 4-fold higher photocurrent than bare BiVO4, measuring 6.0 mA/cm2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE in 1 mol/L potassium borate electrolyte (pH 9.5) solution. Moreover, the Co-MOF/BiVO4 film demonstrated a 96% charge separation efficiency, a result caused by an inhibited recombination rate of photogenerated electrons and holes by the addition of Co-MOF nanosheets. This work provides an idea for depositing inexpensive 2D Co-MOF nanosheets on the photoanode as an excellent passivation layer for solar fuel production.  相似文献

The oxygen vacancies of defective iron–cobalt oxide (FeCoOx-Vo) nanosheets are modified by the homogeneously distributed sulfur (S) atoms. S atoms can not only effectively stabilize oxygen vacancies (Vo), but also form the Co−S coordination with Co active site in the Vo, which can modulate the electronic structure of the active site, enabling FeCoOx-Vo-S to exhibit much superior OER activity. FeCoOx-Vo-S exhibits a mass activity of 2440.0 A g−1 at 1.5 V vs. RHE in 1.0 m KOH, 25.4 times higher than that of RuO2. The Tafel slope is as low as 21.0 mV dec−1, indicative of its excellent charge transfer rate. When FeCoOx-Vo-S (anode catalyst) is paired with the defective CoP3/Ni2P (cathode catalyst) for overall water splitting, current densities of as high as 249.0 mA cm−2 and 406.0 mA cm−2 at a cell voltage of 2.0 V and 2.3 V, respectively, can be achieved.  相似文献

A photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell can split water into hydrogen and oxygen with the assistance of solar illumination. However, its application is still limited by excessive bulk carrier recombination and sluggish surface oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics. Taking SnS2 as an example, a promising layered optoelectronic semiconductor, Ar plasma treatment strategy was used to introduce a SnS/SnS2 P?N heterojunction and O?S bond near the surface of a SnS2 nanosheet array, simultaneously increasing the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron–hole pairs in the bulk and lowering the OER overpotential at the surface. The onset potential of the plasma‐treated SnS2 nanosheet array shifts negatively to 0.16 V, and the photocurrent density at 1.23 V vs. RHE boosts to 2.15 mA cm?2, which is 7 times that of pristine SnS2. This work demonstrates a facile plasma treatment strategy to modulate the energy band structure and surface chemical states for improved PEC performance.  相似文献

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is a promising method for storing solar energy in the form of hydrogen fuel, but it is greatly hindered by the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, a facile solution impregnation method is developed for growing ultrathin (2 nm) highly crystalline β‐FeOOH nanolayers with abundant oxygen vacancies on BiVO4 photoanodes. These exhibited a remarkable photocurrent density of 4.3 mA cm?2 at 1.23 V (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), AM 1.5 G), which is approximately two times higher than that of amorphous FeOOH fabricated by electrodeposition. Systematic studies reveal that the excellent PEC activity should be attributed to their ultrathin crystalline structure and abundant oxygen vacancies, which could effectively facilitate the hole transport/trapping and provide more active sites for water oxidation.  相似文献

Design and synthesis of low-cost and efficient bifunctional catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in Zn-air batteries are essential and challenging. We report a facile method to synthesize heterostructure carbon consisting of graphitic and amorphous carbon derived from the agricultural waste of red bean pods. The heterostructure carbon possesses a large surface area of 625.5 m2 g−1, showing ORR onset potential of 0.89 V vs. RHE and OER overpotential of 470 mV at 5 mA cm−2. Introducing hollow FeCo nanoparticles and nitrogen dopant improves the bifunctional catalytic activity of the carbon, delivering ORR onset potential of 0.93 V vs. RHE and OER overpotential of 360 mV. Electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) O K-edge map suggests the presence of localized oxygen on the FeCo nanoparticles, suggesting the oxidation of the nanoparticles. Zn-air battery with these carbon-based catalysts exhibits a peak power density as high as 116.2 mW cm−2 and stable cycling performance over 210 discharge/charge cycles. This work contributes to the advancement of bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts while converting agricultural waste into value-added material.  相似文献

Herein, FeS2@TiO2 nanotubes photocatalyst was prepared by electrochemical anodization method followed by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction method, and then finally annealed in a tube furnace for homogenous crystallization. The surface morphology, elemental composition, optical properties, and crystalline structure of the prepared FeS2@TiO2 nanocomposite were found out by performing scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy, respectively, while bonds vibrations and various functional groups' presence were analyzed using Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. A higher photocurrent density of 1.59 mA/cm2 at 0.3 V versus reference electrode of Ag/AgCl (1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode) using 100 mW/cm2 intensive light source was shown by 15-FeS2@TiO2 nanotubes (uniformly loaded photoanode) while donor density (ND) of 3.68 × 10−13 cm−3 as compared to pure TiO2 NTs (0.09 mA/cm2), 05-FeS2@TiO2 NTs (0.19 mA/cm2), 10-FeS2@TiO2 NTs (0.53 mA/cm2) and 20-FeS2@TiO2 NTs (0.61 mA/cm2), respectively. The exceptional photoelectrochemical activity results were attributed to the homogenous integration of FeS2 that not only increase the charge separation but also, intensively interacted with the substrate (TiO2 nanotubes), which results in an excellent photoelectrochemical activity.  相似文献
