The cure behavior and properties of oligomeric bisphenol A‐based PEEK‐like phthalonitrile (PN) are thoroughly examined in this article. The resin is easily processed from the melt at a relatively low temperature (150–200 °C) and the monomer cure occurs in a controlled manner as a function of the amine content and processing thermal conditions. Dynamic mechanical measurements and thermogravimetric analysis show that the polymer properties improve as the maximum PN postcure temperature is increased to 415 °C. The effects of the amine and polymer postcure conditions on the flexural and tensile properties of the PN polymer are investigated. The mechanical properties of the polymer are maximized after postcuring to moderate temperatures (330–350 °C). The polymer exhibits an average flexural strength and tensile strength at break of 117 and 71 MPa, respectively. After oxidative aging at 302 °C for 100 h, the polymer retains excellent mechanical properties. The average flexural and tensile strength retention of the polymers are 81 and 75%, respectively. Microscale calorimetric measurements reveal that the flammability parameters of the oligomeric PN are low compared to other thermosets. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Phthalonitrile endcapped oligomers containing aromatic ether and imide linkages have been synthesized and characterized. The phthalonitrile terminated oligomers were prepared in two step (one spot) method by the reaction of an excess amount of pyromellitc dianhydride (PMDA) with aromatic diamines, in a N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc)/toluene solvent mixture to form anhydride terminated oligomeric intermediate that was terminated by the reaction with 4-(aminophenoxy) phthaloitrile. The average molecular weights of the prepared oligomers were determined by GPC analysis. The oligomeric phthalonitrile monomers have been converted to network polymers using 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS) (5.0 wt %) curing additive at elevated temperatures. Differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) analysis was used to follow the polymerization as the oligomeric phthalonitrile/diamine mixtures and prepolymers. An isothermal rheometric analysis was conducted to determine the complex viscosity of the prepolymers during polymerization reaction. Viscosity increases as a function of time due to crosslinking, which depends upon the concentration and reactivity of the curing agent. The TGA analysis of cured resins showed superior thermal and thermo-oxidative stability. The temperature of 10% weight loss from TGA are in the range of 498-511 °C in N2 and 448–461 °C in air atmosphere. Char yield at 800 °C is 41.7–50.2% in air and 70.6–83.1% in N2.  相似文献

The miscibility and intermolecular-specific interactions in thermosetting blends of epoxy resin (ER) with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) cured with various amounts of 1,3,5-tridroxybenzene (THB) were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The glass-transition behavior indicated that all the blends were miscible and had homogeneous amorphous phases; FTIR showed that there were the intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions between crosslinked ER and PEO. However, both the glass-transition behavior and infrared spectroscopy also indicated that the intermolecular interactions were significantly reduced by the formation of crosslinked structures, which was shown by comparing the experimental results of poly(hydroxyether of bisphenol A) (PH)/PEO and ER/PEO blends cured with various amounts of the curing agent. In ER/PEO blends the intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions were much weaker than the self-association of hydroxyls of ER, which was in marked contrast to the interactions in PH/PEO blends. In ER/PEO blends with various amounts of the curing agent, the intermolecular interactions between epoxy polymers and PEO were reduced with an increasing degree of crosslinking. The results were interpreted in terms of the effect of crosslinking on the intermolecular interactions, such as steric shielding, the screening effect, and chain connectivity resulting from the formation of the three-dimensional crosslinked network, which could reduce the intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions among hydroxyls of ER versus ether oxygen atoms of PEO. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of polystyrene (PS) blends with 2.5-20 wt% of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) have been studied. The measurement of the glass transition temperature (Tg) from the maxima of tan δ data using dynamic mechanical thermal analysis showed that the blends were incompatible and homogenously distributed only within a limited range of PVC contents in PS. The value of the storage modulus was found to increase initially but then decreased with further addition of PVC in the matrix. Distribution of the phases in the virgin and degraded blends was also studied through scanning electron microscopy. The thermogravimetric studies on these blends were carried out under inert atmosphere from ambient to 800 °C at different heating rates varying from 2.5 to 20 °C/min. The thermal decomposition temperatures of blends were found higher than that of pure PS which indicated the stabilizing effects of PVC on PS. The effect varies with the heating rates and the composition of the blends and the phenomenon has been explained due to changing morphology of the blends with composition and the degradation time which affect the interfacial interaction between the degrading products from the polymer components. The kinetic parameters of the degradation process calculated from a method described by Ozawa have been reported for these blends.  相似文献

The article discusses the influence of an oligomeric resin, hydrogenated oligo (cyclopentadiene) (HOCP), on the morphology and properties of its blends with high density polyethylene (HDPE). HDPE/HOCP blends after solidification contain three phases: the crystalline phase of HDPE and two amorphous phases, one rich in amorphous HDPE and the other in HOCP. DSC thermograms and the loss modulus behaviors show that the γ transition is influenced by HOCP molecules and, in addition to the αc transition of HDPE, there is another transition that is attributed to the HOCP-rich phase. The hypothesis of the two amorphous phases is confirmed by the optical microscopy observations performed on isothermally crystallized blend films. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A series of poly(arylene ether)s, (PAEs), carrying a pendant diphenyl phosphoryl group were prepared via the nucleophilic aromatic substitution (NAS) reactions of 3,5‐difluorotriphenylphosphine oxide, 6 . The difluoro monomer 6 was synthesized via two‐step reaction sequence and subsequently characterized by 1H, 13C, 19F, and 31P NMR spectroscopy, GC/MS, and elemental analysis. The reactivity of the electrophilic sites in 6 , activated by only a diphenylphosphoryl group located in the meta‐position, in 6 was probed via NMR spectroscopy and model reactions and was determined to be sufficient to undergo typical NAS reactions. High molecular weight, amorphous, organic soluble poly(arylene ether)s, bearing a pendant diphenylphosphoryl group, were prepared via the reaction of 6 with a variety of bis‐phenols under typical NAS conditions. The poly(arylene ether)s were characterized for structure via the use of 1H, 13C, and 31P NMR spectroscopy while their thermal properties were evaluated using DSC and TGA analysis. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the synthesized PAEs ranged from 143 to 175 °C, while their 5% weight loss temperatures ranged from 467 to 510 °C under nitrogen and from 470 to 526 °C in air. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Crystallization behavior of blends of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) and poly(1,2-propandiolcarbonate) (PR(CO2)) has been investigated by polarized light microscopy (PLM). The spherulite growth rates (SGR) of all blends were faster than that of pure PHBV, and the spherulite growth rates of PHBV in the PHBV/PR(CO2) blends reduced with increasing PR(CO2) weight fraction. There are two melting peaks in both the pure PHBV and the PHBV/PR(CO2) blends. The melting peak of PHBV/PR(CO2) blends was reduced by lower temperature about 20K as compared to PHBV and the higher temperature melting peak was increased by about 10K in the blends.  相似文献

We report our work for preparing cross‐linked polyimide via a series of imide functional benzoxazine resins as precursors. The structures of synthesized monomers have been confirmed by 1H NMR and FT‐IR. Among this class of benzoxazine monomers, the ortho‐imide functional benzoxazine resins show useful features both in the synthesis of benzoxazine monomers and the properties of the corresponding thermosets. For the cross‐linked polyimides based on ortho‐imide functional benzoxazine, an additional route is adopted to form a more thermally stable cross‐linked polybenzoxazole with the release of carbon dioxide. The ortho‐imide functional benzoxazine resins show the possibility to form high performance and even super high performance thermosets with low cost and easy processability. The thermal properties are evaluated by DSC and TGA. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2015 , 53, 1330–1338  相似文献

A series of oligomeric, hydroxy‐terminated silarylene–siloxane prepolymers of various lengths were prepared via dehydrogenative coupling between 1,4‐bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene [H(CH3)2SiC6H4Si(CH3)2H] and excess 1,4‐bis(hydroxydimethylsilyl)benzene [HO(CH3)2SiC6H4Si(CH3)2OH] in the presence of a catalytic amount of Wilkinson's catalyst [(Ph3P)3RhCl]. Attempts to incorporate the diacetylene units via dehydrogenative coupling polymerization between 1,4‐bis(dimethylsilyl)butadiyne [H(CH3)2Si? C?C? C?C? Si(CH3)2H] and the hydroxy‐terminated prepolymers were unsuccessful. The diacetylene units were incorporated into the polymer main chain via aminosilane–disilanol polycondensation between 1,4‐bis(dimethylaminodimethylsilyl)butadiyne [(CH3)2N? Si(CH3)2? C?C? C?C? (CH3)2SiN(CH3)2] and the hydroxy‐terminated prepolymers. Linear polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, 1H and 13C NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis, and they were thermally crosslinked through the diacetylene units, producing networked polymeric systems. The thermooxidative stability of the networked polymers is discussed. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 1334–1341, 2002  相似文献

Blends of ABS (acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene) with phenoxy(poly(hydroxyether bisphenol A)) were prepared using a Branender single screw extruder. Scanning and transmission electron micrographs (SEM, TEM) showed a typical two-phase morphology; particle-in-matrix (90/10) (ABS/phenoxy by weight), 70/30, 10/90), island/sea (30/70) and co-continuous (50/50) morphologies. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of SAN was almost unchanged in the blends, while the Tg of phenoxy increased by about 5 °C in the blends. The synergistic effect of tensile modulus and strength was noted in ABS-rich blends, where a drastic drop of ductility was seen, and the results were interpreted in terms of rubber particle migration form SAN to phenoxy phase, which was visualized by TEM. Melt viscosity showed yield in ABS-rich blends, and generally followed the log additivity.  相似文献

We found that a phenylene ethynylene derivative, 1,4-bis(4-(phenylethynyl)phenylethynyl)benzene (BPPB), provides very high photoluminescence efficiency both in solution (Phi(PL) = 95 +/- 3%) and thin films (Phi(PL) = 71 +/- 3%); further, we observed blue electroluminescence (EL) of lambda(EL(max)) approximately 470 and 510 nm with an external EL efficiency of eta(EL) approximately 0.53% and maximum luminance of approximately 70000 cd m(-2) at current density of approximately 2 A cm(-2) with BPPB as an emitter; also we identified that BPPB functions as a hole transport layer in organic light emitting diodes.  相似文献

Melt blends of syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) and poly(p-phenylene sulfide) (PPS) have been prepared by using an internal mixer at 300 °C. The thermal, mechanical and morphological properties of binary blends of sPS with PPS have been investigated in this paper. The thermal and morphological properties show the immiscible binary blend evidences, which have a clear phase separation between the components at all compositions and a lack of adhesion at the interface. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns of blends, the crystalline structure of sPS in the blend is not altered from α form to β form. Indeed, the results for tensile test reveal that there is no synergism of the modulus of elasticity for sPS/PPS blend system.  相似文献

Hybrid blends of poly(amidoamine) PAMAM dendrimers with two linear high polymers, poly(vinyl chloride), PVC, and poly(vinyl acetate), PVAc, are reported. The interaction between the blend components was studied using dynamic mechanical analysis, xenon nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and tensile property measurements. The data suggest a much higher degree of interaction between components of PVAc-containing blends compared to those containing PVC. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(ethylene oxide) and poly[bis[2-(2′-methoxyethoxy) ethoxy] phosphazene], PEO/MEEP, polymer blends were investigated by thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, and atomic force microscopy. MEEP is an amorphous polymer and its semicrystalline blends with PEO showed two distinct glass transitions, whose composition dependence was analysed by the Lodge and McLeish self-concentration model. It appears that an amorphous miscible phase is present in these blends. Excess melting enthalpy was observed for blends with high MEEP concentration. PEO lamellar characteristics exhibited changes as a function of MEEP content, both in X-ray patterns and AFM images that indicated the intercalation of MEEP side chains in the lamellar crystalline structure.  相似文献

Mechano-optical behavior and related structural evolution during uniaxial stretching of melt miscible poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/poly (ether imide) (PEI) blends were studied near their glass transition temperature using an instrumented machine that measures true stress, true strain and spectral birefringence simultaneously. Stretching from amorphous state, two distinct stress-optical regimes were observed at temperatures between Tg and Tcc (cold crystallization). Near Tg, a typical photoelastic behavior persists until a critical temperature above which temperature independent initial stress optical behavior is observed. At those temperatures above Tg, where glassy behavior is observed, decreasing stretching rate was also found to eliminate this glassy photo elastic regime leading to the observation of a linear initial stress optical behavior that becomes temperature independent as expected from linear stress optical rule. Increasing PEI concentration in the blends suppresses crystallizability and increases temperature at which initial elastic region disappears giving way to pure liquid behavior where linear stress optical behavior is observed. This is attributed to the increase and broadening of the glass transition temperature with the addition of noncrystallizable PEI. In PET/PEI blends, the stress-optical coefficient (SOC), determined in a linear stress optical regime, was found to increase linearly with the increase in PEI concentration.  相似文献

Epoxy resins modified by an organosoluble phosphorus‐containing bismaleimide (3,3′‐bis(maleimidophenyl) phenylphosphine oxide; BMPPPO) were prepared by simultaneously curing epoxy/diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM), and BMPPPO. The resulted epoxy resins were found to exhibit glass transition temperatures as high as 212 °C, thermal stability at temperatures over 350 °C, and excellent flame retardancy with Limited oxygen index (LOI) values around 40. Incorporation of BMPPPO into epoxy resins via the thermosetting blend was demonstrated to be an effective way to enhance the thermal properties and flame retardancy simultaneously. Poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)/poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) blends were prepared by a solution‐precipitation procedure. The compatibility and thermal decomposition behavior of the PHB/PGMA blends was studied with differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The blends were immiscible in the as‐blended state, but for the blends with PGMA contents of 50 wt % or more, the compatibility was dramatically changed after 1 min of annealing at 200 °C. In addition, PHB/PGMA blends showed higher thermal stability, as measured by maximum decomposition temperatures and residual weight during thermal degradation. This was probably due to crosslinking reactions of the epoxide groups in the PGMA component with the carboxyl chain ends of PHB fragments during the degradation process, and the occurrence of such reactions can be assigned to the exothermic peaks in the DTA thermograms. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this work, completely immiscible polyethylene/polyamidel2 (PE/PA12) blends were prepared by high shear extruder. The morphology and mechanical properties of the blends were investigated as a function of rotation speed. It wasfound that the high shear processing is an effective method to improve the dispersion of the PAl2 phase in PE matrix whenPAl2 contents are 5 wt% and 10 wt%,and the dispersed phase particle size is reduced with the increase of rotation speed from 100 r/min to 500 r/min.However,with further increase of PAl2 content to 20 wt%,high shear processing has no effect on the phase morphology of the blends.Accordingly,a largely increased elongation at break and impact strength are observed for PE/PA12/95/5 and PE/PA12/90/10 blends obtained at high rotation speeds but no effect on the property of PE/PA12/80/20.Annealing experiment demonstrated that the obtained phase morphology is not stable thus compatibilizer should be introduced in the future work. This work could provide a guideline for the application of high shear processing in the preparation of polymer blends with huge polarity difference.  相似文献

Blends based on epoxy resins and a random copolymer, poly(styrene-co-allylalcohol) (PS-co-PA) were studied, analysing the effect of epoxy nature. The epoxy cross-linking reaction was carried out by homopolymerisation, using an imidazole as initiator, and by addition of several amine hardeners. The imidazole acts as initiator of anionic epoxy etherification and as catalyser of epoxy-hydroxyl reaction. Important differences were observed on the network structure and phase behaviour of blends depending on the nature of epoxy matrix. These cause that the blends present different morphologies and different dynamic mechanical properties.  相似文献
